I’m relieved to see another 1 star review of Dr. James Colwill who was dismissive with another patient and their cat ultimately passed away.

This place is weird and I’m surprised to see the good reviews. The front desk staff both looked liked they hated being there and could barely muster up a smile or hello, very monotone demeanor which is distressing when your pet is in crisis.

Colwill seemed unconcerned with our pets issue and brushed it off as THC poisoning and didn’t care to hear anything else about what we might think was happening. He got defensive when we showed him a photo of what our dog ate which looked animal like(could have been a rat/rat poison) And acted like it was the biggest inconvenience to answer any more of our questions. He was so rude and dismissive , my husband and I left feeling jaded and at a loss for words. Our normal vet is extremely thoughtful and are sure to ask us if we have any more concerns and takes the time to listen, so we were shocked when this man had no desire to put us at ease.

When they brought our dog back they took our leash and we had to knock on their door to get it back. Our dog also peed out of fear and instead of Colwill letting us know she had peed he just said “Oh your dogs scared of being picked up”, yea because she’s an animal who is in distress and has never seen you? I had to ask if she peed because she smelled awful, they didn’t even have the common courtesy to let us know. I also caught Colwill checking out my husband when he should have been taking my dogs vitals and looking at her! So bizarre.

Overall this place seems more concerned with their aesthetic than care for animals. Everyone was very cold, it’s like if a wannabe instagram influencer opened up a vet for photo ops. Take your animals to Primary Care Animal Hospital, they actually care about your pets and treat them as their own with enthusiasm and love. Two things this place is severely lacking.

Returned home from a trip to a very sick senior dog. Found this place and so glad I did. Dr Colwill and his staff were so kind and helpful. Thanks to them she is already feeling better.

I first want to say thank you to the entire staff here. I came in with my best friend of 15 yrs a yorkie-poo named Taffi. My baby had been acting weird not wanting to eat & threw up a few times for about a day then the next day she stopped drinking water so I rushed her here because this was the only place I wouldn’t need an appointment. The place was clean & cozy. The front desk lady was so sweet & that’s hard to find in medical offices anymore. I went in to see the vet him & his assistant came in to talk to me about what could/should be done we decided to run all the tests we could & get her some antibiotics & electrolytes. Their bedside manner put me at ease. Everything was gonna cost $900. They advised me they work with a payment plan called scratch pay so I applied & was approved so I left so they could do what needed to be done for her. As I’m coming back they call me & tell me she’s took a turn for the worst & allowed me to come in & say my goodbyes. I was beside myself & the entire staff was so empathetic it was as if my dog was the 1st they’ve ever seen pass. There was no we see this everyday attitude & that was so helpful to my heartache. I’m also beside myself thinking not only did my best friend die but I was gonna have to pay $900 but to my surprise the other front desk lady who was so sweet too said they were only charging me the $100 visit fee & if I wanted them to dispose of her or I do it… no way was I gonna be able to do that so I said for them to. They told me it was $100 for basic cremation no urn etc or $300 for an urn & I got to choose from a few different styles & the company would deliver it for me. I decided that’s the least I could do for my best friend & omg I must say the little urn is darling!!! I tell everyone about this place they are amazing 🩷

Had unexpected emergency with senior citizen neighbors pup. OMG! While on the 405 talking to a LB vet-- who directed us here-- best kept secret folks. Of my 35 years plus as a pet parent-- I will not forget this spot-, in all its essence of pink right down to the TP and pink metal like business cards. Prices were even as expected as I rescue and always get dinged in the ER. Wish I'd known about this place instead of the 2 in Bixby which resulted in my baby's death last year. 😫
Little Tommy thanks you 😘

My wife and I had to have our cat of 18 years euthanized. We couldn't get an appointment with our vet, and they suggested we come to LBAUC. We are so glad we did. They are super compassionate and very caring. The price was reasonable as well. They sent us a lovely sympathy card, and made a very difficult day easier. I can't thank them enough for being there when we needed them most. Thank you for helping our beloved Chilly Kitty to the other side. I highly recommend LBAUC!

We had made a morning appointment for July 6 at our regular vet due to our unspayed 12 year-old Jack-Chi (Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix) Adddy aka Moosher having vaginal discharge, but in the late evening of July 5, she started detoriating rapidly (expressing pain, vomiting, lethargy), and we rushed her to Long Beach Animal Urgent Care, arriving at 9:20 pm (closing time was 10 pm).

After examining Moosher, Dr. Colwill did an ultrasound and gave us the diagnosis: Pyometra, a dangerous infection of the uterus. Her condition was already very poor at that point. Emergency surgery performed elsewhere would be very costly and might not have had a fully successful outcome.

It was all very unexpected and shocking. My adult daughter and I cried buckets, and decided that the only option was euthanasia.

When the time came, we were shown into a comforting, pretty room with a small comfortable couch. We held Moosher, petted her, said goodbye, cried more buckets.

Dr. Colwill was extraordinarily compassionate, calm and competent, as was the nurse and receptionist present that night. They all three went above and beyond, never rushing or pressuring us, but showing us and our beloved dog nothing except the utmost respect and kindness. I have never encountered better health professionals, period.

On top of that, Long Beach Animal Urgent Care is spotless, bright, with a very nice color scheme, and plenty of space. All medical and pricing information given to us was concise and conveyed with great tact, and we were given ample time to ask questions.

To have a beloved pet put to sleep is one of the most gut-wrencing experiences one will ever have. My daughter and I are so very grateful to Dr. Colwill and his staff for making our visit with Moosher such an immensely positve one.

Thank you LBAUC!
