Dinner in celebration of our 19th wedding anniversary started promisingly but turned into a grave disappointment once the main course arrived. Both meals were cold with the salmon being returned to the kitchen. When a fresh salmon dish was brought it was badly undercooked and brought our dining experience to a premature end. So much for the celebration that my wife was so excited about.
Lovely experience—smooth non-intrusive music, waiters are friendly, food is divine, and they threw in a treat for my birthday 🎂 🎉
After reading the amazing reviews, my partner made a reservation for us to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary at The Grill Room.
The hype and excitement was short lived by the pretentiousness and suffocating ostentatiousness of the servers, decor and host and the sadly the food! Poached Pears and tomato relish (thai beef salad) was a fail from just reading it on the menu - the beef was beautiful, everything else not so much.
Steak Diane that had only one flavourful note.. a seafood curry with scorched pieces of fish (this however was replaced and sent in a take away container) .. this establishment is still living in its past glory says and even in the moments of reinvention are failing - perhaps they need for intervention (like a new head chef to create moderate, tasteful menu) and leave the steak Diane and tableside theatrics in the 90's ...

There is also live music.
It could be better only with ocean view.

An exceptional place to eat. We ate on the terrace overlooking the lighthouse. The food was superb, the Bunny Chow wasn't on the menu but our host recommended it and the chef kindly agreed to make it for us. It was superb, as was the service. The atmosphere was brilliant. If you are in Durban you must visit here.
We celebrated our honeymoom at the oyster box and had dinner at the Grill Room. Food was exceptional and staff went out of their way to make us feel special, especially Morran our waiter. Thanks so much! We enjoyed our night with you!
Food was excellent (even if some things were a bit rich for my taste), portions are generous, presentation is top-notch and the wine list is extensive. Service was attentive and had a leisurely Durban pace (maybe too slow for city folks) but overall fairly good. They made every moment special by offering small plates between dishes. The surf and turf is a recommended option and the Crêpes Suzette a must, if not for the crepes themselves for the performance. The live music and grand setting made it a great South African experience.
