Sushi Hiro, a (Japanese) family-owned authentic Japanese restaurant, has been one of my favorite spots for sushi ever since I moved to Calgary.

Featuring:
- Chirashi Sushi

Their sushi is always fresh and flavors so authentic. I always like to start with a sip of the miso soup because I like to taste it when it's still hot. For me, the taste of miso soup often gives me a good preview of the quality of food you're about to eat.

The Chirashi Sushi comes in a traditional bento box, which is unique from the usual Chirashi Don we see where it comes in a bowl of rice with fish on top. It's hard to eat sushi with my daughter because she can't eat raw food yet and I often feed her whatever I order for myself, but with the Chirashi Sushi from Sushi Hiro, the rice comes in a separate compartment, as well as the tamago and imitation crab which my daughter could eat, so we could all enjoy a nice meal 😋.

They also went through renovations in the last few years so the space is smaller now. They got rid of the tatami floor seating, which I liked... But I was happy that the food still tastes good!

I have to say while you look from outside you feel like a typical Japanese restaurant in Calgary however as soon as you walk in you feel you’re travel to Tokyo the vibe and all the staff talking in Japanese. Love the wood decor and tables very elegant. We order the sukiyaki 2 person. Portion very reasonable. The staff show us how to cook it and dip the beef with raw eggs taste like no other!! The best sukiyaki I’ve been eating in my life! They always packed during dinner time so it’s recommend to book a table in advance. Parking is on street side after 5pm is completely free I think.

An absolute gem! From the moment you step in, the service is impeccable - attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable staff make you feel truly welcome. But it's the sushi that steals the show here - each piece is a work of art, beautifully crafted with the freshest ingredients, bursting with flavor in every bite. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese cuisine, this place will surely impress. Overall, a fantastic dining experience in every way - highly recommended!

Very lovely, family-owned and operated restaurant. This may be Calgary’s oldest sushi restaurant. It opened in 1983 and the son, Yoshi, is carrying on the family business after his father, Hiro, the restaurant’s namesake.

Beautiful atmosphere, friendly, attentive staff and the food was wonderful. An excellent dining experience.

Truly a great dining experience. Upon entering the staff verbally greet you in Japanese. After being greeted we were seated at the bar around the sushi chefs, at first I was a bit annoyed that we weren't able to get a table, but that annoyance quickly disappeared. I must admit I really enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the sushi. As for the food we ordered it was really good, my partner and I ordered an assortment of various sushi, tempura, upon soup, sashimi and a katsu don. The sushi was quite good and I have to say the menu had a great selection, the tempura was average, the sashimi was prepared properly, the upon soup was surprisingly good, in my experience ordering upon its typically nothing special, but it was actually fairly decent at Hiro, the katsu don was a bit above average not bad, definitely paired well with Asahi on tap. Overall it was a great experience, we will definitely be back
