I just discovered this garden/park for the first time last week, and have been 4 times since. It is in my top ten parks fs.
It has it all:
* established fruit trees
* historic rustic old buildings
* allotments to rent (some are quite creative and some haven't been touched in years)
* trail down to a lovely creek
* birds galore (I think there may be a RT Hawk's nest nearby)
* lots of shady nooks with benches to explore
* restrooms (hallelujah)
* it's a community garden and we definitely need more of that

Ok, so the city of San Ramon clearly does very little maintenance here, and it shows big time. I find that adds to the charm. I mean we can go to any other park and have well manicured lawns & perfect flower beds blah blah blah boring boring boring. If that's your jam, this maybe isn't the place for you. No biggie.
Me? I'm a hands on, let's get dirty, and feel connected kind of person. So I just sat down and started pulling weeds. Couldn't have been happier. I'll be there every Tuesday afternoon if anyone wants to join me 😊

A hidden gem in San Ramon are the restored fruit and vegetable gardens behind the old Mudds restaurant, now city park. Rent your own veggie space to grow your own, or volunteer to attend the former orchards and grounds. Lots to do get give back to the earth and community. Uneaten fruits and veggies get donated to local food banks.

The park is absolutely beautiful! Full of fruit trees and flowers. Feel free to pick an apple or other piece of fruit!

The gardens are very nice, yet expensive nowadays to own a plot there.

People with a green thumb are right at home here. You can reserve a spot or rent it from the city and have a pretty good patch of land for growing whatever you're good at growing. It's fun to watch people in there working hard at cultivating their spot. Some people have a really productive patches as well. It's a beautiful reprieve from urban living.
