Crow Canyon Gardens
2024 May 12
I just discovered this garden/park for the first time last week, and have been 4 times since. It is in my top ten parks fs.
It has it all:
* established fruit trees
* historic rustic old buildings
* allotments to rent (some are quite creative and some haven't been touched in years)
* trail down to a lovely creek
* birds galore (I think there may be a RT Hawk's nest nearby)
* lots of shady nooks with benches to explore
* restrooms (hallelujah)
* it's a community garden and we definitely need more of that

Ok, so the city of San Ramon clearly does very little maintenance here, and it shows big time. I find that adds to the charm. I mean we can go to any other park and have well manicured lawns & perfect flower beds blah blah blah boring boring boring. If that's your jam, this maybe isn't the place for you. No biggie.
Me? I'm a hands on, let's get dirty, and feel connected kind of person. So I just sat down and started pulling weeds. Couldn't have been happier. I'll be there every Tuesday afternoon if anyone wants to join me 😊

It was ok. Elaborate interactive digital maps were super duper fun. I asked for some info though and was told they could help in a few weeks because they are too busy with their new installation. Excuse me? I only wanted a photograph and asked to be pointed in the right direction and I would look for it myself. Wouldn't even let me do that. Plus the front of this place used to be a lovely place to sit in the shade on a hot day and now all of the trees are gone. It's stark.

It's directly off of I-80 so it's a great rest stop if you're traveling: clean restrooms, drinking fountains, shaded picnic tables, and the best part is it was not crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon. Personally I wouldn't make it my day's destination but it's alright for a short visit. The Adobe is cool though and the ducks are cute.
