Inconspicuous museum both from the outside and from the inside. Only a few exhibits. Many of them were not lit. It was dark. Only in the first room was the story of the exhibit told through illustration boards. It had more of a warehouse feel. In my opinion, the €12 entrance fee is completely excessive.

A very cool museum nestled in a unique location in the historical Hansaviertel near the Akademie der Kunst. The staff are very nice and helpful and there is an excellent array of letters from all over Germany. If you are interested in typography, graphic design, signage, neon lighting and urban history - this is the place to visit!
We discovered this museum in Jonglez "Secret Berlin" and because we love lettering, we headed over there. Slightly off the beaten track, it is really worth a visit - the collection is still being pulled together but that makes it feel like a living museum. Just wonderful to see the large letters that once dominated the skyline in mid/later 20th Century (Berlin and beyond) and seeing some of the photos with the letters in situ as they were was a joy (I remember seeing some). Put aside a little time to visit this hidden gem.
As a design and typography lover, this place is very fun. The first room is an exhibit on a changing subject relating to signage, and the subsequent rooms are laid out like storage spaces for old signs that are wonderful to see. I wish more of it was lit up, and maybe more of it was on display in an interesting way. In any case, though, you can feel the history of Berlin and you get to look at everything from up close. Recommended, but no extremely high expectations please.

Visiting the Buchstabenmuseum in Berlin was a dream come true for me. As someone who's always been fascinated by the power of letters and signs to shape our world, I was blown away by this privately-owned museum's collection of vintage and contemporary signage. The museum is a true labor of love, run by a dedicated team of individuals who are committed to preserving the history of signage. From the oldest metal letters to the latest neon signs, every piece in this collection has a story to tell. I left the museum feeling inspired and awed by the ingenuity and creativity of the designers and craftsmen who created these signs. If you're a fan of design or history, or just looking for something off the beaten path in Berlin, the Buchstabenmuseum is a must-visit. It's a reminder of the impact that design and communication have on our world, and a testament to the power of preservation and passion.

I wanted so much to leave a positive review but… I will not. The concept and the idea of the museum is great and very interesting but the execution is poor. I get that it is work in progress but I don’t think much work is done. There is no “back story” for the collected signs and no proper arrangement. There is no path to navigate in the museum and most of the signs are not properly displayed. As I said it is a work in progress and I can oversee all the flaws. However, I can not oversee the fact that the ticket cost is 12€ for a not so-ready and organized museum.
