Beautiful location that we are very fortunate to live near.

Lovely place to visit and a great walk along the beach with the dogs

On 06/09/24, I went over to Ballyhornan Bay Beach with my sister. While my sister, called into Scout Ireland, to get some documents signed off for them. The beach was busy with other people, as because it was very hot & sunny, yet for the month of September. Ballyhornan Beach is 7 miles away from Downpatrick & is easy to get to. It was the first time in as many years, since I was last over here & it hasn't changed much since I was last here, about 20 years ago. The beach is sheltered has easy access to it. But, I will have to remind you to be careful, as there are rocky slopes in some parts of the beach. But, if you are going, enjoy your day out, for it is a great place for paddling, swimming & just an afternoon walk. Stephen Acton.

Really lovely beach with both ramp and steps down to it. Car park can get busy but you can park on the grassy area opposite. There is a coffee shack which sells hot and cold drinks, traybakes, crepes etc. There are public toilets nearby

Ballyhornan Beach stands out as a premier destination for lengthy strolls along the southern Down coast. Situated a mere 6 miles from Downpatrick, this beach is a spectacle of natural beauty, especially on sunny days when the warmth of the sun enhances the stunning views over the Irish Sea.
From the shore, if you have a boat, you're treated to a clear vista of the Isle of Man. The beach has also served as a backdrop for television productions, attracting stars like Jimmy Nesbitt among others. A short walk away, the Cable Bar invites you for a refreshing pint of Guinness or a chilled beer, offering a warm welcome from the amiable locals.
For tourists seeking tranquility, this locale is a must-visit to experience the magnificent coastline. Starting from Strangford, just off the ferry, a brief 10-minute drive along the coast will bring you to this picturesque spot. The Cuan in Strangford is another charming bar and restaurant, providing a pleasant stay for those wishing to linger overnight. With approximately four buses daily to Downpatrick—home to the graves of St. Patrick and St. Bridget, two revered Irish saints—the area is easily accessible, even from Belfast, with just a 45-minute drive.
Additionally, a 15-minute walk will lead you to the renowned Bishopscourt race track, known for its thrilling motorbike and car races during the summer months. I hope this review proves useful to readers. Best wishes, and enjoy the beautiful Ballyhornan Beach and the quaint village of Strangford.

A lovely quiet stretch of Co Down's beautiful coastline, safe parking, easy beach access, and hundreds of yards of beach to explore whilst the wind blows the cobwebs from your head. Guns Island sits just 100 yards of the beach, a haven for sea birds. Go on, give it a try.

Very lovely beach. Wide and deep. Brilliant views from the coast. Small playground by the car park. Car park it self is small with spaces for maybe 15 cars but more parking opportunities along the ciast. Clean, tidy, well kept. There's a wee coffee trailer at the car park but it closes at 5pm and very often they only take cash. In all very good place to chill and relax if the weather permits.
