This is a historic district close to my heart... Because it's my home! The apartment buildings on and near the Concourse were mostly built from the 1920's to 1940's. They were originally filled by upper middle class families looking for something nicer than the tenement buildings many of them were fleeing in the Lower East Side. Many of the earlier buildings are in the Renaissance or Mediterranean Revival styles. But the later buildings are predominantly Art Deco and Art Moderne. In fact, they say that The Concourse has some of the best examples of Art Deco apartment buildings outside of Miami Beach. And some of the lobbies in these buildings will really knock your socks off if you are able to take a peek.
