Nice pice hotel;ordered rice, special moong dal, cheeps alu fry, fulkopi alur dalna, macher dimer bora, and added chatni , papad at last. Food was fresh. Price was reasonable. Rice served in fresh banana leaf along with a piece of nimbu ,onion, and green chili . Nice experience.

Foods were superb. In terms of freshness, quality and taste. There service and behaviours are very good 👍
Only thing is price is little bit high. But again for quality and taste you have to spend a good amount. That is justified.

This is a pice hotel which serves pure bengali items. All the items are prepared with less oil, which is gut healthy also. Prices can be a little bit low, overall good.

Mahal is a restaurant near college square bus stop in a Lane just opposite to Chittaranjan College. It's a restaurant where you will enjoy the daily Bengali dishes. I often take lunch there. I enjoy most kachu patar chingri, katla vapa, katla korma, mutton with potato, chatny. In fact, all the items shown in the list is delicious. It is not very spacious or ac restaurant like a modern one but once you have tasted their food, it will be tempting to visit again and again.

This is a proper pice hotel. If you want to have home cooked style rice and bengali food at reasonable price you should visit here. Food quality is good, i generally have sukto katla steam chicken curry and paturi.
I generally order from Zomato and have. Food quality has always been good, no complaints.
Katla piece is very good always and even katla korma is good. Chicken curry is good, paturi average.
Have from here if you want to have quality bengali dishes at reasonable price.

Mahal has a great history before we judge by its food and service at the first place. This used to be named as ' presidency boarding house ' where great writers such as jibanananda, saradindu used to stay and eat. Later it named as Mahal bhaater hotel. There building and rooms remained as it is. One can feel the nostalgia while spending hours in there. Food wise it's good, service is prompt. Price is reasonable. Expect the old style eating on kalapata (banana leaf) and old style Bengali menu items such as maach bhaat, mangsho bhaat and so on. But crowded during busy hours as it's expected. One must not look for great ambience while visiting such old style eateries. Having the expectation set, this place is a must visit to feel Bengali history.

Stepping into Mahal Restaurant, nestled within the Presidency Boarding House on Ramanath Majumdar Street, is like stepping back in time. This age-old pice hotel isn't just a place to fuel your stomach, it's a portal to Kolkata's literary history. Whispers of the past linger in the air, carrying the echoes of Saradindu Bandopadhyay and Jibanananda Das who once called this mess their home. It's here, amidst the clatter of plates and the murmur of conversations, that Byomkesh Bakshi, the legendary detective, was born.
But more than its historical charm, it's the food that truly steals the show. Forget fancy plating and gimmicks – Mahal serves honest, unpretentious Bengali fare that explodes with flavor. The mutton, in particular, is a revelation – tender, succulent, and infused with spices that dance on your palate. The ambiance is pure pice hotel magic – basic, bustling, and brimming with character. Long wooden tables, scarred with the stories of countless meals, invite sharing and camaraderie. The air is thick with the aroma of simmering curries and freshly baked bread, whetting your appetite even before you glimpse the menu.
