The Fishway

This place is an amazing area to see fish while they migrate. The way it is all set up, perfect area for a day trip to take the kids or go yourself.

No tickets required. Very fascinating experience. You'll love it.

Was curious about it. Impressive dam. The fishway was fish free (probably not the season).

The Thornbury Fishway is a passive fishway that consists of an open channel with a relatively natural appearance that allows for excellent fish viewing opportunities. Rainbow Trout and Chinook Salmon are readily visible as they swim or jump over each of the steps and pass up through the pools of the main portion of the fishway. The fishway retains the capability for fish capture, sampling and automatic counting to help monitor the health of fish populations. While allowing better fish passage, the fishway has been designed to exclude lamprey from entering the Beaver River watershed.

This fishway is quite nicely done up! Naturalish looking stream bed for salmon and trout to swim up to spawn was quite enthralling. My family and I spent nearly an hour watching the salmon striving to make it up river. Free parking nearby and a quick walk to various restaurants make for a nice outing.

Such a cool location. Fish ladder for spawning fish. Local fishing spot for sure! We could see some big fish in the river. Great look outs on stairway.
