Highland Optometry

I saw Dr Bywater today for an urgent eye issue. He was very pleasant, informative and empathetic. He understood that I had an existing relationship with a different practitioner but I still felt like I got the best of care from him and am really grateful.

I scheduled my eye visit as a shot in the dark with Highland Optometry. Now using a Medicare Advantage plan with UHC, it was difficult to find a doctor that takes my vision plan. I was delighted with the outstanding service provided by the doctor. One of the most thorough exams I have had as a normal routine yearly exam. Far more extensive than any other place I have been to. They did not attempt to up-sell anything including the eye glasses. Honest and professional. I highly recommend..

What a creep. He has all the empathy of a turnip. If you are disabled in any way, stay away. He’s condescending and he lectures.

It’s too bad, because the office staff is really nice and he’s a pretty good optometrist! Just not one I ever plan to be within 50 feet of ever again.

This is the first negative review I've ever written but feel compelled after what an awful experience I had here. My husband and I went in for our annual exams and wanted to try a new place. The atmosphere wasn't exactly friendly but ok, we read the charts and did the vision tests and then we each saw the doctor separately. When I went into his office he wanted to dialate me which I had concerns about since I had a baby with me and wasn't sure how comfortable I'd be driving after. I don't wear glasses and didn't have and symptoms so I wasn't sure if it was necessary. The doctor got so standoffish that I would even question him that he handed back my patient intake form and said I can leave! What?? What kind of medical professional acts like that, let alone treats a new patient like that. We are calm and quiet people and I was completely stunned. They refused to give me my prescription/ tell me how my vision was and all the while were trying to upsell my husband expensive Ray-Ban glasses in the next room! It was the most unprofessional 'medical' experience I've ever had. I don't understand why it was even an issue, he must have been upset he couldn't bill my insurance for the higher charges. This was not before they entered my information in the system so I will be refuting anything they try to charge me.
I also want to add that I later asked my friend, who wears glasses, of her experience here and she did not need to be dilated to have an exam! So there was no call to have been treated like that, patients have rights to question their care. Last year I went to Austin Ryan down the road and it was just fine. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else.

I had what started as a simple eye infection but didn't respond to the meds I'd been given—in fact, it got exponentially worse over the course of a week. Dr. Bywater was willing to see me on a Saturday at the last minute; he immediately realized I'd been given the wrong course of treatment entirely. He was kind, thorough, and saved me from potentially severe complications. He even called to check on me a couple days later. So grateful for his help!

Dr. Bywater is so kind and patient. He has assisted myself, my husband, and our young daughter with our vision exams and glasses over the last few years. We will be forever grateful for the time that Dr. Bywater accommodated an emergency visit and successfully removed construction debris from my husband's eye. We always appreciate his thorough eye exams and his efforts in answering all of our questions in detail. On display in his office, he has a great variety of stylish glasses to choose from. His staff are also very sweet and helpful!

This office doesn’t get the credit it deserves- the staff here is great. Reading the reviews, I would never imagine anyone could be referring to Dr. Bywater and his staff this way! Dr. Bywater is kind, personable, knowledgeable and he even helped me pick out my glasses because I left my phone in the car and could not FaceTime my husband for advice. After our appointment, he even opened the door for me as I left. I will continue to recommend him to friends and family as well as continue to go back to him as long as I live in Highland.
