We had a magical candlelight Christmas tour and loved every minute of it! They had live musicians playing in different areas of the house, which created an incredible atmosphere. The Christmas trees and garland were meticulously decorated, I could have spent hours soaking up all the beauty! Can’t wait to go back in the spring and enjoy the gardens and grounds more.
What a beautiful home. I almost didn't buy tickets because they are a little spendy. I'm so glad I did. We thoroughly enjoyed our self-guided tour. We did make it to Antler Village for the included wine tasting. A bit of a wait but worth it. We even bought some wine to my surprise. If in the area, you must go.
Biltmore is a magical place! The house is a monument to lavish entertainment. Every room is filled with opulent furnishings and delightful art treasures to please the eye and nurture the soul. At the Christmas season, everything is festooned with greenery and lights, added ornaments and bows. The audio tour is very informative, and every member of the staff seems to be a walking encyclopedia of the history and customs of Biltmore. Whatever question we asked, a detailed answer was provided by one of the many people on hand to guide us and make our visit memorable. On this visit, we enjoyed a scrumptious three course supper at the Stable Café. Our wait staff there was as well-informed and attentive to our pleasure as the staff in the house. On past visits, I have toured the gorgeous formal gardens and the vast parks. An overnight stay at the Village Hotel made me feel like royalty, so luxurious are the guest rooms and the entertainment provided in the various restaurants - Cedric's Tavern is a favorite - and exhibits around Antler Village. The prices are high, but you definitely get what you pay for.
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Biltmore House. It is a statement of grandiose and art. The history of the building and its significance is rich and the electronic guided tour lasts about two hours. People are free to roam as they please and take as long as they like so that was different and cool about the individual electronic tour part. We happened to visit when they held the Italian renaissance and a free wine sampling at the village which was great. Both made the experience even better. We missed the day two at the gardens due to not feeling so well but even just for the one day visit although pricey was a great experience and would highly recommend it.
When I first saw the ticket prices I was a little skeptical, but it was well worth every penny! Having the tour be self-paced was so nice, we weren't rushed through anything and could spend time reading everything. The library was a highlight for me personally as were the gardens, but most importantly was the wassail and wine that we sampled and ultimately purchased and brought home to enjoy.
My wife and I visited for the first time and had an amazing day. The grounds are spectacular, from the gardens to the pond. The interior tour using handheld tour recordings does a great job of describing the details of the estate and how they lived during the time the estate was occupied by the Vanderbilt family. We had lunch at the Stable Cafe, which was very good. One suggestion, try to make it a 2 day visit. We tried to do everything in 1 day and were exhausted. After the tour we went over to the winery for our complimentary wine tasting, which was excellent, but I would have preferred to have gone back to our hotel to rest and enjoy the winery the next day without rushing.
I was more impressed with every turn and with every new door I entered. The self paced tour was enhanced by the hand-held audio tour. The grounds of the estate were spectacular and a must-see. The conservatory was beautiful and well kept.
I'd absolutely recommend visiting. The more time you can spend there, the better, as there are so many things to explore.
