Very interesting historical tour of the street that was build over with the exchange building.The guide was really fun to listen to, making the whole story super engaging. Unfortunately photos are not allowed. Definitely recommend!
Loved this tour. Our tour guide Robert Ferguson aka Matt was fantastic! Such a fun and enthusiastic tour guide with so much knowledge and comedy. Really enjoyed his narration through storytelling. It was very interesting and cool to see the underground street.

There's not much to say about it. It's a mosaic on the ground outside St Giles Cathedral. It doesn't sing or dance or recite poetry. It lies on the ground like all good mosaics should! It is historical, so it is worth a look if you're in the area.
Absolutely perfect blue skies but fairly high winds when we made the climb in mid October - we were quite nearly blown off the top and I was hanging on to the marker on the summit for dear life. A note that the route starting near the Palace of Holyroodhouse is one of the hardest and the easiest route starts from the other side of the hill.
Picked a pleasant early evening on our 1st nights stay in Edinburgh. Walked up for sunset and was ok, few ignorant people going both up & down who are obviously to important to say thanks for stopping for me. Nice enough views
Like all the royal attractions we have been to thus far, the Palace of Holyroodhouse is well-polished, immaculately maintained and thoroughly explained by way of the complimentary audio guide. Not sure why few seem inclined to wander down the royal mile from Edinburgh Castle to further explore the events of Scottish history which unfurled within the palace walls, but I’m not complaining considering the enormous crowds at the castle.
I went on this hike around 10:00am and it took me about 45 minutes total (up and down) but I did not take breaks on the hike while climbing and coming back down. I think anybody can do this hike (for beginners) as it has amazing views and you can stop to take pictures along the way to take breaks. There is a clear pathway to follow, but you definitely have to wear proper shoes as it is rocky and steep along the way. I also took a walk through Holyrood park and stopped along a little pond. Would recommend this hike when visiting Edinburgh as the views are great.
This is the first time I have been inside. The information gadget was on a lanyard so it was a lot easier to use. The inside of what you saw is where the royal family entertained there is a lift to the next floor but not to the top floor. The gardens that I walked round were easy for wheelchairs.
This self-guided audio tour was very well set up and allowed you to enjoy viewing each room without being overloaded with information. Most of the palace is easy to negotiate and you have the ability to skip certain audio portions if you choose not to climb stairs, etc. the outside gardens are not to be missed. The gift shop is well stocked and you don’t need to go on the tour to make a purchase. There is a cafe and restaurant on the premises. A must visit if you are in Edinburgh! No photos are allowed inside the castle and security is present throughout. This is a working castle.

Lovely tour of the Palace with friends who had never been before. Lots of interesting things to see but could only rake photos outside.

When the several footpaths and hill steps are open, there are many routes we can take to walk to the top, or whatever height we may like to suit the weather or suit our energy level and fitness. But recently (in terms of the date of this comment), there have been path-works in progress to repair and imotive the many hill paths and steps to improve public safety when enjoying the paths and climbs which has required the park to temporarily close many hill paths and steps to be closed to the public. So I'm rating my stars based on the current situation from my walk to the top with my dog this morning. When all paths are re-opened the choices and the joy can only get better and better.
The short hike up has multiple view points that give you some awesome views of the city and the surroundings. And if it’s a clear day, the top gives you huge Panaromic views of the entire area. Definitely 100% recommend going to the top. Be aware it can get super windy up there though so pack accordingly.
Most famous of course for being the burial place of the famous Bobby and his police officer owner. But the Kirk is also beautiful in its own right and well worth a look. Entrance is free but donations are requested. The Kirk has a small museum.
No picture can describe how beautiful the view was. It’s worth the climb and you can take multiple options to get there, test your fitness and enjoy fresh air. For those coming with car, it is free Saturday / Sunday. During week days, it’s 1£ an hour
A fine kirkyard dating back nearly five hundred years. Lots of famous graves, grave robbers and links with JK Rowling and the Harry Potter phenomena. Well worth a wander.
I had an amazing time moving from one beautiful structure to the other in the castle and reliving the history that had taken place in the magnificent Edinburgh Castle. Lovely architecture, beautiful arts, sculptures, and tapestries. Alsohad a great view of the city from the castle. Loved it so much. It was a great experience.
Great community space. Attended the Edinburgh Lindy Exchange....beautiful wooden floor for partner dance. Coped pretty well with live jazz band acoustics, that often get lost in churches 😊
Beautiful castle. It has many sections for defense purposes. Now, it mainly is used as museums, Crown Jewel displays, etc. My favorite is the St Margaret Chapel. Of course there are many other great structures, so come find your favorite.
It was lovely to see all those who lost their lives remembered and recognised with this lovely monument in Princess Park.

I’ve been inside the castle before, and without doubt they put on a good show so make sure you make time to fit it in.
This time I wanted to walk all around the perimeter of the castle, and what a formidable presence it makes. I wouldn’t have wanted to be one of them attacking.

This was truly magical! My wife and I visited on a beautiful September day. We spent at least three hours there and could have spent the entire day! It's the most spectacularly and meticulously maintained castle site we have ever seen. This is a MUST SEE. And, stick around for the 1pm cannon shot!
You can hike up from Holyrood in different ways, but it's worth taking a less crowded path for the best views in peace and quiet. Worth sticking to the official paths as some are scrambles up and over slippy rocks. It also gets crazy busy at the top, but the views are totally worth it, especially on a sunny day! 🌄😎
Lovely walk in the heart of the city with stunning views
Such a great time exploring the history of Edinburgh! Although there was a lot of walking (and stairs), nothing was too strenuous. This is a good family activity.
There were lines to access a few of the buildings, but overall it wasn’t too crowded.
Recommended to purchase tickets in advance! We did the tea experience, which was well worth it and a wonderful break from all of the walking.

Well worth spending time here - a beautiful and peaceful spot in the city. A lot of love and effort has gone into these memorials, it's very impressive. So much amazing history in one spot.
Great Royal palace with so much to see inside & out. Allow at least 2 hours of walking / touring with your audio guide which is loaned when you purchase the entrance ticket. The Abbey at the side of the palace adds great historical perspective and is a must see too.
Lovely building within the Edinburgh complex. Sadly no filming allowed. This is the place to see the Scottish crown jewels and the famous Stone of Scone. Both are in a tiny room enclosed with security screens.
A beautiful churxh ans churchyard. Burial place of the Greyfriar's Bobby, a very faithful dog and his owner. The church is full of interesting information.
Truly enjoyed the 1 hour tour. It gave a good understanding of how it was in the heydays living in the squalid undergrounds and what each family had to go thru with the plaque. The preserved structures are awesome. And also at some rooms, one could still smell a wiff of how it smelled a few hundred years ago. No photos nor videos allowed.

Apparently some or the names on some of the tombstones inspired the names of some Harry potter characters, especially Tom Riddle.
However it felt weird seeing so many people going to these tombstones and taking photos, feels kind of disrespectful to the actual people buried there.
You can find lots of people walking their dogs here which is adorable.

The palace is a good place to visit if you are in Edinburgh. Quite big and the guided radio tours were quite good. You may be able to complete the visit in 2 hours maximum. It has a lot of paintings and tapestry (quite big ones). A lot of state rooms and art. No photos were allowed inside the state rooms

Nice day out, the audio guide was great, just enough information about each room. The tea room was really good, a good choice of food and homemaking available. We had a quick glimpse of Prince Edward as well when we were there
We went to support the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra - which everyone should do.
The acoustics were fantastic and watching the sunset through stain glass windows was truly something! Beautiful venue for music and Kirk in general!

A sight to behold, it was my first time here and I enjoyed learning the history of this castle while visiting. I loved that they had audio guides which were very helpful while getting around. The cafe had great food selection, it was so crowded there for lunch, I had to wait a long while before I could get food and a table.
It was a great experience! Regardless of the rain we walked all over the grounds listening to our guide telling stories. After the tour we looked at all the buildings again, cannons, chapel, even little graveyard for dogs. Overall happy we visited it.
Stunning views an insightful audio guide. Beautiful castle grounds highly recommend to anyone visiting. Be sure to book ahead as it's fully booked today and seems like it is everyday. My parents were on a British isles cruise few months ago and came the day of hoping to visit but were turned away due to being booked to capacity.
As far as cemeteries go, it’s not terribly packed, which lends itself to a leisurely exploration if that’s your thing. A wide variety of headstones, styles, and years will keep you interested, though many are challenging to decipher, as you’d expect.

The tickets were included in the royal package of Edinburgh bus tours, we arrived there and they gave us an audio tour guide with headphones, which was very informative and educational. The whole tour took us 3 hours, the palace was marvelous and the garden was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Shout out to Anne (the gift shop keeper) extremely nice and we enjoyed an uplifting conversation with her.
Great experience. Go early to avoid crowds. No photography inside. Grounds and chapel were beautiful. The audio guide as you walk thru is interesting. Tons of art and history well preserved and on good display. People working the rooms were quick to answer any questions.
This is an absolutely beautiful castle! It has so much history behind it so I suggest getting a tour guide or getting one of the headphone ones. There was no wait getting in and the crowds were manageable. The castle will give you a beautiful view of Edinburgh so if you are wanting some rich history and great views, this is definitely the spot!
One of the best castles I've ever visited. It's like a labyrinth with hidden secrets around every corner. It's easy to spend several hours here in order to see everything on offer.
Halls, museums, an excellent guided tour, dungeons, prison cell reconstructions, the list goes on.
I would strongly advise booking up in advance as it was sold out when I visited and there were long queues with hundreds of visitors.

Great concert during the Edinburgh fringe. Nice venue
A beautiful space and token of appreciation for those that served and gave their life!
Visit only if you are interested in royal life. It's a bit overwhelming and surreal inside. The garden is beautiful and worth a look. The view of the Arthur seat is magnificent from the garden. They offer a lift to take the buggy inside but not so kids friendly inside the palace as it's mostly dark and less space to walk.

We started in Greyfriars as part of a Harry Potter tour and ended up coming back to see more. There are some beautifully decorated old graves here and of course the graves of John Gray and his faithful companion Bobby. Wonderful old crypts giving a real authentic flavour of old Edinburgh. You could spend a lot of time here.
Book tickets in advance as you're not guaranteed entry if you just turn up. The website is easy to use, there are many time slots to choose from and you get a long window to arrive within. This place is truly spectacular and there is so much to see on site that you could spend much longer here than you'll plan for. St Margarets Chapel is small but the stained glass is beautiful. The Crown Jewels are well worth the queue and were the highlight for me until I entered the Scottish National War Memorial building. Absolutely amazing! The Regimental museums and National War museum are glorious, so much information and memorabilia. Be sure to be on time for the one o'clock gun! The Great Hall is fabulous, the ceiling alone! The replicas of Mary Queen of Scots embroideries are exquisite so don't miss those. You'll really appreciate the amount of work that's went into them. There are plenty of toilets around and cafes to stop for coffee and a snack. We spent a good 3 hours here and probably still missed things
Awesome experience. So cool to go below and see the old city and rooms and hear about the way of life 400 years ago. Our tour guide Sam was really good as well and very knowledgeable. Must do in Edinburgh.
An absolutely great day out. You can easily spend the whole day here. You definitely need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. We signed up for Historic Scotland Memberships and it's made visiting the Castle, so much more worthwhile. The value for money with the membership is great, as you get discounts on food and gift shops.
If you like history, this tour will not disappoint. The palace is still used today, but your tour takes you through several rooms of the palace with rich history. An audio guide gives you information as you make your way around. No photos allowed inside the palace m, but outside on the grounds, you are free to take photos. This was a great tour! I highly recommend for all! Buy tickets in advance or at the gate.
This is a working place and the royal family use this place all the time. Has many interesting things to see. The inside state rooms are a very interesting along with many artworks, sculptures etc. however you cannot take pictures inside. The garden at the back is very plain. The cost of entry is high.
Our guide James L is good at explaining the history on each room with good sense of humour. It is nice to see the guide and team wear the clothes from the people of the past. I like how the tour include media of the person from the past to help to share their life story and hard time. It is interesting and sad to know about mary b scott life and also life of the people suffering. This tour may be scary to a young child in some of the room showing the one who suffer from the plaque. The guide offer the kid a place to hide from the scary scene.

Some of the tour to the room is skipped like the plaque doctor but john try to catch up by sharing the history without going to that room. It is interesting to see the street is standing and conserved as much as possible.
I wish Mary king close tour will be longer about 1.5hr instead of 1hr covering the history of building and how the life is after. It would be great if the guide can highlight the parts that are the conserved element like through the glass house. As this is highly confidential place of the government place, note that no photography is allowed. Thanks James L for being our guide.

Beautiful church. Such an amazing feeling to be able to stand in a place where historical figures stood and praise God.
It was hard to find but we managed to identify it after a few back and forwards. There is no signage to it.
Anyway it was great to see such a piece of history so well preserved. There were only two spits in the stones so probably the tradition is vaping. I did not find the courage to spit in front of people passing by but I hope that I will come back again to Edinburgh without the need to do this :).

No doubt the experience was worth it. Our guide Sydney was really invested, fun and made us feel part of the history of the place.

Loved the entire place. The audio visual guide takes us through the history. So much to imagine and feel about. Beautifully paintings, tapestries, ceilings so artistically done speaks volumes.
To top it the garden adds beauty. The Abbey completes the whole set up. Totally we get a royal feeling going around.

I wouldn’t have guessed I say such a thing for a graveyard but this place is amazing! It is relaxing to walk around the graveyard and sitting down on the grass. And of course there is also excitement of following the steps of J.K. Rowling! Tip for the future explorers, Thomas Riddell’s grave is on the other side of the wall.
Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh: One of the world’s most famous graveyard and the most haunted. Come in the day for less for spook but you will still get the spine tingling moments like I did at certain spots. It’s hauntingly beautiful and serene but we didn’t dare linger on too long! #eatstylishtravelstylish
This is a must-see attraction when going to Edinburgh. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. I loved this tour so much and it was very well done. Easy process with the audio guide and headphones. Staff were in most rooms if you needed help. Extremely well organized and great attraction. Highly recommend.

I’ve attended the Tattoo twice now, several years apart, and it has yet to disappoint as a spectacle of military bands and marching prowess. The coordination involved is incredible, especially at the culmination of the show with the massed pipes and drums.
The castle itself sits ominously over the city centre, being visible for miles around and at several points around city. Several nice walks are available around the grounds and up to the front gates, affording plenty of opportunities for photographers.

Very beautiful location. Was very misty when I visited, which made the whole experience very magical. Wonderful area.
It is a bit of a climb up the 101 steps, and the spiral staircase might not be to everyone's liking, but the view from the top is wonderful. To the south there are the Pentland Hills and to the north the Firth of Forth. Edinburgh, the castle and Arthur's Seat are to the east, and to the west, the edge of the city, the airport and the countryside beyond.

There is a popular legend associated with the Heart of Midlothian Mosaic that says if you spit on the heart, it will bring you good luck and ensure that you will return to Edinburgh in the future.
This tradition dates back to the time when the Old Tolbooth prison stood on the site of the heart. It is said that people would spit on the heart as a symbol of disgust for the prison and the harsh conditions that prisoners had to endure. Over time, the act of spitting on the heart evolved into a good luck ritual that was believed to guarantee a person's return to Edinburgh.

Historic spot with a great story behind it, in Edinburgh, just outside the St. Giles Cathedral.
A long line to enter the castle building, but I enjoyed the moment. No camera is allowed.
Lovely walk through the woods by Mary Erskine School and past the golf course. Do not be put-off by any PRIVATE road nonsense, you're free to walk paths and roads and this right is enshrined in a Scottish 2003 law! Enjoy the beautiful view over the hills and city on a bench.
I loved every second of this place, due to our flight we booked the last ticket of the day and we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see so I suggest booking an earlier ticket of the day, I know at 1 o'clock they fire guns which would be cool to see. Also there was a lot of people being turned away because they sell out of tickets so be sure to book them in advance. The Scotland crown jewels were impressive and the war memorials were moving.

Great place for a walk. One of the better places to surround yourself with nature. It gets steep in some places so can be a good workout but nothing too bad. And the paths are not paved well, so proper footwear recommended. Also, you walk past the very corner of Edinburgh Zoo so you can actually peak at zebras (though they are quite far away).
We visited early in the morning so missed the crush to see the crown jewels which are impressive but hardly worth queuing for , the rest of the palace is a bit more interesting with the story of Mary Queen of Scots and her son being prevalent
Great area for a walk but a few steep bits but can take it easy walking up these bits. Lovely woods and the secret garden is fab

Corstorphine Hill is a great local nature reserve, it's a nice little getaway within the city. We walk our dog here frequently and it's also popular with trail runners and mountain bikes. Great views of the Pentlands too, and the Castle/Arthur's Seat from Rest and Be Thankful.

The interior is nice to look at and is well kept. Mostly plaques describing history, statues, and paintings/pictures. A quick look around is plenty enough to take in everything this has to offer.
Edinburgh Castle is one of the best attractions in Scotland. Although you are not history person you can still enjoy some of the best views of the city from the top of the castle. There are different view points at various stages to look the beautiful city which is mix of traditional rocky buildings with new buildings in the mix. We have lot museums and movie shows with a lot of items from world war 2 and British colonial history captured and documented. Be prepared to walk a lot but there are lot of places to sit, relax and take nice photos. Crown jewels is the place which is too much crowded with a lot of wait time which we Didn't visit. But if you want cover everything going all places and taking photos you need good 4-5 hours. There are toilet facilities. The road up to the entrance of castle is so alive and when we visited there is Tattoo festival in the evening so it is much more busier. The royal mile outside of castle has lot of activities with wonderful artists playing music that is so lovely. It was great experience with stunning views from the castle. If you are visiting in a bus or car only allowed time up hill was until 5 PM, afterwards you need to walk down hill for about 10-15 minute for vehicle pick up points.
My reason for this is to show the Edinburgh Fringe images and how Edinburgh looks when its on. Its a wacky world in town the place so busy and full of artists from all over the world. Its well worth a visit even just to see all acts and events that going on in town.
A lot of peoples on the after noon! Busy frustrated for visiting to see in side the building. But it is great to be on top hill and see view of Edinburgh city.
