He was a Scottish philosopher, historian, economist, and essayist who was best known for his highly influential system.

The bronze statue of the 18th century British philosopher statue of David Hume in Edinburgh commemorates the influential Scottish philosopher and Enlightenment thinker.
The statue was erected in 1997 by Sir Stewart Sutherland, Principal of the University of Edinburgh.

People usually rub the David Hume Statue's toe as a good luck ritual, they believe that this will bring luck or knowledge.

Located near the St. Giles Cathedral outside the High Court on the Royal Mile.
Look at this utter mug. The epiphany of Edinburgh Fringe I'm sure of it

The David Hume statue, located on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, is a prominent tribute to the influential Scottish philosopher and historian. Erected in 1997, this bronze statue portrays Hume seated in a contemplative pose, holding a book, symbolizing his contributions to philosophy and literature. Created by sculptor Alexander Stoddart, the statue is a significant landmark for those interested in Scottish Enlightenment history. A curious tradition has emerged where visitors rub the statue's toe for good luck, giving it a distinct shine. The statue serves as a reminder of Hume's enduring legacy in the fields of philosophy and intellectual thought.

The Heart of Midlothian Mosaic in Edinburgh is a fascinating piece of history. It's a must-see when exploring the Royal Mile. The tradition of spitting on the heart for good luck adds a unique touch to the experience. Highly recommend stopping by to learn about its significance and take part in the local tradition!
It’s also worth searching for the origins of this tradition, fascinating story!!

This little historical spot is not well marked, but can be located using your phone map on the Royal Mile just outside St. Giles cathedral. The Heart of Midlothian mosaic was the gate to The Old Tolbooth prison where many execusions were carried out in the late 1700s. Due to the history you will see the Heart being spat on.

Hail to poetic literature.
You should take care about online tickets in advance, on the desired day they are out of stock
I mean it’s free there isn’t much bad to say about it. Not much good either I suppose… it’s just a statue of Adam Smith. Looks neat though!

The Edinburgh Castle Gatehouse is one of the most iconic sights in Scotland which looks particularly amazing when lit up at night time.

Please note that you don’t have to pay to see it, but you do need to buy tickets to get into the castle itself, which you should definitely book in advance.

Buy tickets online way before arriving, like months before. Then get there early. We arrived at noon and it was noticeably busier when we left at 2:00 pm. Great views of the city.

A remarkable statue for a remarkable individual - this statue is located in a prime spot on the Royal Mile, and in fact it isn't far from Adam Smith's grave, which is also worth visiting! The statue is, however, located in a busy area, so many people will likely be walking right next to it, but nonetheless it's a great spot to visit and isn't far from any of Edinburgh's other attractions, which makes it great for a day out!
Statue and roundabout in one does it get any better.
It’s just statue to look at, nothing else. Just enjoy it.

William Pitt the Younger (28 May 1759 – 23 January 1806) was a British statesman, the youngest and last prime minister of Great Britain from 1783 until the Acts of Union 1800 and then first prime minister of the United Kingdom from January 1801. He left office in March 1801, but served as prime minister again from 1804 until his death in 1806. He was also Chancellor of the Exchequer for all of his time as prime minister. He is known as "Pitt the Younger" to distinguish him from his father, William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, who had previously served as prime minister and is referred to as "William Pitt the Elder" (or "Chatham" by historians).

A spectacular entrance into Edinburgh castle!
The David Hume statue, gracing Edinburgh's Royal Mile, pays fitting tribute to the Enlightenment philosopher. Capturing his contemplative spirit, the bronze figure invites reflection on reason and skepticism. The details, from the flowing robe to the poised expression, convey a sense of intellectual depth. Positioned near the High Court, it's a philosophical pause amidst historical hustle. While unassuming, the statue subtly commands attention, much like Hume's ideas that continue to shape modern thought. A modest yet thought-provoking homage to one of Scotland's intellectual giants.
💯💈💯
The statue was erected by the Leith Burns Club in 1898. On each side of the pedestal is a panel based on Burns' poems, with The Cottar's Saturday Night, Hallowe'en, Death and Dr Hornbrook and The Smiddy all featured. It was removed for the construction of the tramline but was replaced in Oct 2022

With the cobble stone streets, this place really transport you to the medieval days. The vibe is just so ancient that you almost seem to expect a Knight on horse back duelling in a joust! At nite, I could help to feeling that Count Dracula would appear at any moment.

One of the beautiful gatehouse , i ever saw in entrance of the castle .
"On both sides of the entrance to The Gatehouse, on impressive main entrance into the Edinburgh castle stand bronze statues of two Scottish freedom fighters, William Wallace and Robert Bruce, added in 1929. Robert the Bruce (the statue on the left) declared himself King of Scots in 1306."
Edinburgh has a statues everywhere. They make a great addition to the ambience of the city

The Allan Ramsay Monument in Edinburgh is a beautiful and historic monument located in St. Giles' Cathedral. The statue stands tall and proud, paying tribute to the man who was a famous poet, playwright and collector of Scottish folk songs. The statue is well-crafted, with intricate details and a lifelike quality. The surroundings of the monument are also lovely, with St. Giles' Cathedral offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The location of the monument is central and convenient, making it easy to find and visit. Overall, the Allan Ramsay Monument is a must-see for anyone interested in Scottish history and culture, and it's a great opportunity to learn about one of Scotland's most famous poets.

10/10 for the description it is a tower 😂😂
David Hume was a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, historian, economist and essayist, who is best known today for his highly influential system of philosophical empiricism, scepticism, and naturalism. Hume attended the University of Edinburgh at an unusually early age 12 and found literary success in his lifetime as an essayist, and a career as a librarian at the University of Edinburgh. His tenure there, and the access to research materials it provided, resulted in Hume's writing the massive six-volume The History of England, which became a bestseller. Hume applied for the Chair of Pneumatics and Moral Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh with no success and failed to gain the chair of philosophy at the University of Glasgow due to his religious views. In 1766, Hume left Paris to accompany Jean-Jacques Rousseau to England. but he damage his reputation from a a quarrel with Rousseau. David Hume died at the southwest corner of St. Andrew's Square and his tomb stands, as he wished it, on the southwestern slope of Calton Hill.

This is fantastic if you can get permission to investigate the treasures hidden within. Up two flights of ancient winding staircases is an ornate Medieval ceiling. A vast room with painted beams depicting all sorts of shameful & despicable creatures!

Birthplace of John Napier, inventor of logarithms. It's a rather beautiful 15th C tower from the outside, but is rather spoiled by the ugly sixties uni building attached to it. That just makes me sad.

This statue caught my eye right away. Hume in classic Greek style is for me a fine Scottish statue. The shiny toes is due to people rubbing it for good luck. I love that one of the most reasoned minds is commemorated with a toe that’s lucky to rub! Scotland, you are brilliant!
Love this statue! Pitt the Younger > Pitt the Elder
This statue stands in tribute to William Henry Playfair, a 19th century Scottish architects, who designed the eastern part of the New Town and many of Edinburgh's neoclassical landmarks such as City Observatory on Calton Hill, the Royal Scottish Academy Building and the National Monument etc.

The statue depicts William Henry Playfair dressed as a gentleman of the 19th century. The statue has William Henry Playfair standing in portrait pose, his left hand resting on a table and in his right, he holds a stack of papers, perhaps his next architectural masterplan.
Simple statue

William Pitt, who on the 19th of Dec. 1783, became Britain's youngest P.M. aged 24. He was so called to differentiate him from his dad William Pitt the Elder.
Pitt displayed the qualities of both endurance and determination during the Napoleonic wars thus helping save Britain from defeat.
He resigned in 1801 because King George 3rd denied Irish Catholics emancipation.
He died a few months after the Battle of Trafalgar aged 46.

Prominent statue that stands near the entrance on one of the corners leading to Princess Street Gardens. Makes for a great photo with Edinburgh Castle in the backdrop.
This statue stands in tribute to Thomas Chalmers a Scottish minister, professor of theology, political economist, and a leader of both the Church of Scotland and of the Free Church of Scotland. His legacy was his role as a social reformer in alleviating poverty.

This stature depicts Thomas Chalmers standing, wearing long robes of Moderator of the Church. In his left arm he is holding a large open Bible across the arm. With his right hand, he is turning the pages of the bible.
