What a disgrace of a park. Love your dog a little more and don’t bring him/her here. You would imagine that with the amount of tax dollars this part of the city pays we would get something more decent. Once again the authorities shine by their absence.
Dog park is dirty and nasty , people and dogs are getting sick from there
My favorite place in NYC to sit around! Right next to the open field, and lots of puppies running around. Highly reccomend posting up on a bench for some puppy and people watching.

Fantastic dog run, but really needs some sort of floor replacement. The dirt gets way too muddy.

This dog park is kind of on the small side, but the regulars are cool. Not bad for NYC!
a tiny beach area but still attracts a handful of dogs on weekends. and they seem to be having fun!

Looks like most of the complaints have addressed. Turf, a hose, seating for dog owners all the way around, dog stays clean and gets worn out. Mission accomplished.

Should be a 4.77 score 😉
If you love dogs, you’ll love this spot even without a dog of your own.
Nice place for doggos and people. Most of the dogs are friendly and playful, the same goes for their humans. There's a regular crew there most mornings, with playtime for doggies and kaffeeklatsch time for people. The area could use some TLC, but overall the entire park in general is dog friendly.

LOVE IT!! Such a cute spot to hang out. There are some benches around that are a nice place to take a minute and just watch the dogs having a blast (whether you have one there or not). When a strangers dog brings me a ball to throw for them, my heart honestly skips a beat. So... if you need some joy in your life I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the park!

Perfect for my medium sized dog. It’s a smaller dog park so there aren’t as many large dogs since the nearby Hillside Dog Park has a much larger space to run. There are hoses and water fountains which makes it easy to keep my dog hydrated.

It's a great dog park if you're watching your pups. Fence is easy to escape for smaller dogs. But honestly a wonderful run space for them to let out some dog energy! Go zoom zoom

The play area is very spacious. My pup definitely loves it! But there is no water fountain, trash bin, or designated seating areas for humans. Close to farmers market and restaurants. Will definitely come back.

Next to the BQE, this park is surprisingly well cared for. Fairly spacious with a dirt and gravel surface, lots of room for romping around. Fairly active on the weekends but pretty empty mid-day during the week. Lots of shade and benches for people’s comfort and water fountains to keep the pups cool. There are berry trees though so have to keep an eye that your pup isnt munching.
this park should be the advertisement for why we need to properly fund the NYC parks dept.
Fun when not overcrowded.. so at like 6AM. Many people do NOT know how to command their animals. My dog has been attacked here multiple times and some people have no idea how to recall their pets or their animals are just not trained. Today MY dog was attacked again and that was the last straw unfortunately. The owner said “she’s just territorial. We come here everyday”, which is just confusing. If your dog is aggressive they should not be off leash.

Deceivingly tiny. Definitely don't recommend dogs that need to run or don't do well in tight spaces if there's no room to burn the energy off. Very clean, though...
We really like this place. It's super close to home, so very convenient for us to bring my little girl here. I really enjoy coming on some early weekends after grabbing a quick local breakfast to sit on a bench in the small doggy area with my girl. She isn't too fond of the larger space & is very intimidated by the larger dogs. So the smaller area gives her, her own space & freedom to sniff around & not be bothered. She is a mini shitzu & rather spend time alone sniffing around or with some easy going doggy pals. I like the variety this dog park offers and seeing the other dogs playing together is nice & brings us joy. My partner and I stop by sometimes, without little girl, just to see the other dogs play, too. lol.

Great dog run, lots of dogs, clean turf. A little far for me but makes a great walk through Prospect Park on the weekends to get there.
Stinks, dusty, my dog has been bitten twice and had allergic reactions there.... city should convert it to astroturf like soccer field and create a rule...once you dog bites another dog you are banned from re-entering.

Generally a great option although the dirt makes for a really filthy dog when they're done playing. The park is completely unusable in rainy/inclement weather. There are almost always several throwing arm things and plenty of balls around (although I generally just bring my own).

Local tip* Water shuts off during the winter so don't forget a little water bottle for heavy play sessions.
My puppy Constitution absolutely LOVES McCarren Dog Park! He is finally all vaccinated and just had his first experience there earlier this week! I will be bringing him again tomorrow since I’m moving down the block in April! 🐶🐾💕🥹
First time here and I loved this park for my little guy. The separation of small to big dogs is good. Though if you have a friendly small dog it's okay to let them run with the big dogs, it's not suggested to of you know they're not going to get along or don't like playing rough. Everyone is nice and friendly and so are the dogs. I let him play for about 3 hours and it knocked him out when we got home he had so much fun.
The puppy's and dogs there was so cute I will recommend going there if you want to pet dogs or puppys

Spacious enough. Concrete path runs through it and surface is dirt and wood chips. No double gate so slightly risky entry/exit. Alongside a highway/busy thoroughfare so pretty noisy for skittish pups.
This is a good dog park- it's very large and spacious. For Brooklyn, It's a wonderful space to give our pups excersice, enrichment, and fun to stretch their adorable toe beans. However, people tend to lack control of their dogs. It's a lot of unregulated play and irresponsible owners. As a dog handler, I feel that if you are taking your dog to the park to play, you should be educated in general dog behavior as well as have basic obedience level training for your dog. Many owners here cannot even recall their dog properly. If you're gonna take your dog here, I would recommend going at a less busy time.

I love coming here. It's such a welcome space in the area. There’s always a good mix of different sized dogs. It can get pretty crowded at specific points, so I tend to come either early in the morning or later in the evening. Even in the busy times, it's good, but you have to watch your dog and others a bit more so there are no tussles.

Sadly, my puppy and my family had a bad experience at this dog park. If you have a large breed puppy I do not suggest to visit this dog park. My dog was mounted on by another dog and the owner did not recall. My husband stepped in immediately to remove the dog from mounting our puppy. However, the dog continued the attack causing about 7-9 additional dogs to react. I noticed no other owner stepped in to retrieve their dog and at that point I realized I had to help my husband and puppy escape the swarm. Unfortunately my husband was bit as a result and my puppy is now traumatized.

People, please be mindful the responsibilities that come along with owning a dog. If your dog is misbehaving you should immediately correct the behavior and recall. Additionally, it is your responsibility to remove your dog from the dog park and de-escalate.

The actual park itself is too small and absolutely not worth it.

Parking is available to the left side of park.

Great dog park with lots of space for running and playing. Everyone was friendly and so were the pups. Keep an eye on your dog, it can get easy to get caught up in conversation with fellow fur baby parents. Water fountains available and hoses. Didn’t see any disposal bags around. Pretty good parking if you drive here.

Beautiful park. Especially in the fall.

It’s got designated bbq areas, public bathrooms, kids playground, off leash dog walking areas during certain hours of the day, picnic tables, even a little dog water area for those water loving labs and goldens! It’s also got a running/walking trail and a biking trail as well. Great park!
A picturesque off the leash area for dogs to cool off. Be sure your dog is trained to be off the leash as this area has no fencing and opens in to the park in general. This place also has a couple of benches for you to sit while your furry friend enjoys a swim

Very well kept enclosed area for dogs. All the dogs looked so happy. My dog would give this place 10 stars but I am only going with 4 because the location is next to a pretty loud and busy road.
Weird dog run but enough for my little girl. It has a weird mound in the middle and it's directly underneath the Manhattan Bridge. So if your dog is afraid of loud noises I wouldn't bring them here. Otherwise it's a cute enough park. Also, please get the lepto vaccine for your dog if you're gonna bring them to public parks, it could save your dogs life
A great spot for dogs to cool off. Very pretty and plenty of space. This area is NOT enclosed. If your dog runs off (like mine) you need to be constantly be on watch/ stand on the edge.

Not a bad park. Just enough room for a small group of dogs to run around. All dirt, so our dog got dirty real fast, and when they run, it kicks up everywhere. No real source of water, so definitely bring some water with your doggo.
Bring your four legged friends to enjoy greenery. And scenery
Nice dog run with nice owners/pups, but the space desperately needs an upgrade. It serves so many residents, and there are no other options in the area. Please, plant extra trees for shade and recover the ground with something other than dusty gravel.

Cobble Hill Dog Park (aka Van Voorhees or the Amity Street dog run) is a small triangular space on Hicks Street between Amity and Pacific Streets, right above the BQE.

My boy Benji loves this place with plenty of room to run around in. Dirt/grass with benches available. Friendly dog owners!

Large dog run with two sections! “Regulars” are a nice, caring crowd. People do their part; sweep, pick up trash/leftover dog poo, pay attention. Occasionally you’ll get the irresponsible owner who doesn’t watch or isn’t as experienced.
So freeing and fun for family and persons enjoying nature

**Updated Review: The park was recently updated from the hated pebbles to a nicer turf. It’s small, but good for a quick play. Turns out my dog still prefers hanging out with the dog owners on the stone wall. Go figure.

Original Review: The park looks nice, but my dog hates the stones. It’s like a game of the floor is lava, he’ll only walk around the perimeter on the stone wall.

South Slope Dog Run is overall a great dog park.

The park is all dirt, so unless it is time to give your furry friend a bath, I wouldn't recommend going after it rains.

The park is a bit small, but nice in that you have full visibility of your dog no matter where you are in the park.

Our dog enjoyed his time off-leash and had pleasant interactions with the other dogs that were there.

*UPDATE JULY 2022: they took away the rocks and laid down turf! And they added a retractable hose. Looks great. Havent taken my dog there yet!

One of our favorite dog parks in the area. I’ll usually go mid-day and its pretty quiet. Maybe 4 other dogs. There have been moments where there are lots of small dogs and sometimes theres only big dogs. Owners are attentive. Our dog loves the park but we definitely need to bring a ball or frisbee to keep her moving. There arent any structures they can run around and not much exploring. But I think that is fine every once in a while considering its a HUGE plus she doesnt need a bath afterwards. We’ll wipe her down and wash her paws in the tub! In the winter it gets very cold. I think the buildings around create a wind tunnel so i recommend bundling up.
Small, but really friendly people, and some trees so they're shade. There's a 5 gallon water jug there and people bring water to keep the dogs supplied. On weekends there seems to be plenty of parking because it's across the street from a school.

It's literally a patch of dirt with trees which they decided to call a dog run. No extra mesh around the fence so small dogs and puppies beware. No water fountain or seating area. And no double fence. It's just a quick stop for your dog to run around in and then keep on going. Nothing special.

update july 2022: they took away the rocks and laid down turf!! so much better!!

my dog loves it here. she's small-ish (19 lbs) and not shy. i feel safe bringing her here since there's just one entrance with a double gate. friendly and attentive owners.

P.S. don't be confused by my pic; water is already available for the dogs here. i just bring my own sometimes.

Fun place for the pup, but a little dangerous. There is no lock on one of the entrance doors and super close to the highway.
Lovely dog park with two sections (optionally, the doors between them are usually open), with water for the dogs, plenty of shade and seating for the humans.

It is mainly dirt, but there is a grassy area.

Consistently filled with dogs, especially in the morning, with a lovely community of owners too!

Only downside: in the rain it turns into a lake. When it rains I go to the pebble dog park on pier 6.

Nice little dog park in the neighborhood to take your dog for some exercise. There is usually water there in the summer for the pups. The only downside is that there is a lot of dirt and it gets muddy in the rain because there is very little to not grass. But the local community has recently chipped in the buy some topsoil and mulch to help on these issues.
Small dog park, usually not crowded. Doesn’t have a double gate which makes me nervous.
It was clean and not overly crowded. If your dog is sensitive to loud noises then don’t bring them here because the trains pass directly overhead. The other dogs were friendly.
My puppy had such a great time here and it was his first visit he got along with everyone and we will be going back .

Extremely clean and well maintained addition to the south side of Prospect Park. I love taking my dogs so they can socialize. There is some nice shrubbery in the small pup section where my dogs like to explore.
Wrost visit ever, disturbing by bad weather.
Love this park. Very friendly dogs of all sizes and responsible parents and friendly as well.

This is an amazing dog park that has been fun at all hours but today at about 5:15pm a private security guard came over and told me the park is closed and only open from 9am to 5pm. I asked him who owned the park and he wasn't sure. I just called 311 and filed a complaint as according to NYC city maps, it's under the jurisdiction of NYC Parks - does anyone have any info on this park and how it is managed by the parks service?
Nice and shaddy, enough space for dogs to run, cleanish, not busy, lots of water, trees, Rocky ground
I really like this small dog run. It has a long skinny shape, so there’s room for my dog to get up to full speed when we play fetch, despite the small area. There’s also benches, the community garden next door to sniff at, and some bags of toys at the entrance in case you forgot to bring your own. It’s pretty quiet and out-of-the-way, which is nice, and unlike some other small dog runs in the area, the natural ground is exposed, so your dog can dig if they want. I think this would be a good place to bring your dog if you don’t have much off-leash experience, as the distraction level is low.

I’ve only been here in the summer, and the center is low-lying and does collect water when it’s wet out. The inner gate is also a bit janky; there’s no functioning latch, so the door is just held in place with a chunk of concrete. (The outer gate has a proper working latch though.)

I usually go in the morning, so we often have the place to ourselves. I imagine the space might not be so great with more than a few dogs present, as the narrow width could make it a bit cramped for rambunctious multi-dog play.

If you want a big area for your dog to socialize and play with many other dogs, go up the hill to Hillside Dog Park. This dog run is a pretty nice place to stop on a walk though.

This is a pretty great little dog run! I was skeptical at first because it’s a simple circular fenced in area and the entire thing is made up of small pebbles. I’m sure for some dogs this would be a turn off. However, my dog and many other local dogs seem to love the place. My big complaint is how hot it gets mid day. If there were only more tree cover, this little spot would get five stars.
Dusty and dirty for sure, but a lovely large space for the area with three separate spaces with gates to close them off from each other if need be. Dogs of all sizes come here; there aren't designated small/large dog areas but if necessary one of the spaces can be used. Love this spot!

I really like to come to that park, one of the biggest i have to say. A lot of space for dogs to run and play. The dog run is in the park, and if you come before 9am, you can let them go free, its cool. Now they putted some hay on the ground and it looks good and not muddy. Always coming there.

Great spot to take your dogs to run around - my girl always has a great time running around and making friends. There's a pretty large amount of space so different groups of dogs can choose where they wanna play. All the people and dogs I've seen there have been super friendly and respectful.
Despite my puppy being a pittie mix... some dog owners are good with Bubba sniffing their dogs butts and playing with them... this is the only dog park bubba knows for now... it's pretty clean.. pools, water fountains and hoses.. Bubba gets out here at least once a week
Very nice dog park, lots of dogs come here so your dog will never be alone. There are dog tennis balls that you can use to play with your Dog. Poop bags are here sometime too .

Decent park run, small but convenient location. It's also long enough for dogs to run around and chase each other. There are picnic tables and benches for people, but be careful, I have seen many dogs pee on them. Additionally, it's all dirt/dust, no grass, so your dog may get very thirsty.

It's pretty small, but it's big enough for dogs to run around. There's a trash receptacle for all kinds of wastes, and a couple of picnic benches under the trees for people to hang out. A majority of the area is full of sand, so it gets dusty. There's some plants in the perimeter of the dog run, but it's not maintained and they grow pretty tall. There's also no water fountain available, so you'll have to bring your own water for your dog. It's pretty clean though, and there's a couple of balls left behind that you can use.
It's very dusty and can be muddy when it rains, and there is the occasional crazy lady. But it's a dog run that's big enough and enclosed and you can find balls sometimes. Seriously it's a place full of dogs. It's great.
It's a great little park, but my dogs get bored quick because there usually aren't many dogs there. However, it's a convenient location and a nice spot to let them run for a bit

This is the best dog park I have been to so far. Tons of grass and sand for dogs to around in. Perfect place to get your dog a good work out. There is also a few trees for shade and very clean. The people are generally nice and the dogs too. I highly recommend this dog park.
First & foremost, I'm not a fan of 'dog runs'. Would much rather take my dog to a real park such as Fort Greene park or hiking to New Jersey. I do agree with one of the previous posters that the hill is a weird fixture. However, the real reason behind my three stars which I am surprised nobody has mentioned is that the run is right underneath the trains. The noise is simply intolerable to me, it raises my stress levels as I am sure it does my dog's. Do yourself a favor and drive your dog out hiking once a week, and for the rest of the time, just walk them on the streets.

i love taking my dog there. the only concern i have is that the entire park is not chicken wired. my dog is long and thin and could easily run through the iron fence if he were spooked.

i've considered bringing my own wire next time i'm there but am going to reach out to the city parks to see if there's something that can me done.

also over by the small dog area there is a large gap by the gate, not good considering how close this park is to high traffic roads.
Nice doggie playground to bring your dog out to play. My Bulldog Max loves to play with this large ball and doesn't want to share it with anyone or any dog. I can't even try to touch it. lol
Great place to let your dogs run wild! Right underneath the Manhattan Bridge. Has nice shade coverage most of the day. Don't expect it to be quiet. Clean but I would like to see a water fountain or sorts to cool down and water for our dogs.
