A beautiful Hindu temple hidden for ages under the layer of soil until it was excavated in 1966. It seemed to be small part of a larger compound which might be waiting under the land. An example of high civilized society of ancient Javanese.
We had a great day here with a local tour guide, whom we met at the entrance. After many temples in Bali can I say that this ne of the better ones. Can recommend it as a half day adventure.
A 8th century Hindu temple ruins 30 to 40 minutes from Yogya. This place is steeped in rich history and its breathtaking to see and experience!
We visited on a weekday thinking it would be quieter without many tourists but we were way off base. There were buses of schoolchildren on schooltours and the place was packed. Prambanan temple and grounds are closed on Mondays for prayers.
The ticketing procedure is easy and organized well. Its IDR 375000 per visitor if you are a foreigner. You buy your tickets at the ticket office from English speaking staff. As you exit the office you will come across a counter where you can hire guides. The guides are English speaking and friendly. For IDR 150000 you get a guide for an hour, 2 bottles of mineral water and a buggy ride to the 2 other temples within the temple grounds. The guide is well worth it and we took ours for 2 hours so as not to rush.
It can get hot as there are no shaded areas in the temples itself...it gets pretty stuffy and dark inside the temple chambers as well. Pace yourself and stay hydrated.
A high recommend on my list of places to visit in Yogya!!!

We booked this trip with ViaVia travel in Jogja and would highly recommend them. There was no need to pre book tickets online as visitor numbers here are not restricted like Boroburdur. However, we arrived at 06:30 to beat the crowds and the heat. The gates to the temple compound don't open until 7am, which are to the right of the big white Prambanan sign. This was a good choice as there were only a few other visitors there so early. However, within an hour, there were so many visitors that lines were forming at all steps plus groups ignoring direction signs and entering temples using the exit steps. The heat was also starting to increase considerably. Get there early for some good pictures in cooler temperatures. 😎 we were back in jogja in time fir breakfast.

This temple should not be miss when you visit Yogyakarta. If you want to know the history, it's good to get a guide. If you just want to enjoy the area and see the details of the structure, it's okay to go explore alone. Sunset was very nice one should not miss!
Love to see ancient heritage. Hope they will get more funding to restore more stages..
This place is beautiful, and the ticket price is only 7k. I visited from 4:30 PM until 5 PM and was able to enjoy the sunset. The area is spacious, and there is parking available outside the Candi.
Stop listening to the hardcore Angkor Watt fans, this place is also worth your time and money! Come early so you can avoid the heat and the crowds. Apart from this majestic temple you will also see 3 more all included in the same ticket, each with their own charm. You do not want to miss any of them!
Beautiful Hindus temples actively in used. The guided tour is recommended to get to know the panels better. The best time to visit is during sunset. But the ticket closed at 4.30. So u better plan ahead. We come from Borobudur at 2 and got here almost 4.15 due to the heavy traffic condition. There is a Hindus prayer at 4.45. We are lucky to catch the last batch up the main candi. This is a relatively new temples compared to those in other places in south east Asia. The altar and gods and goddesses figures are mostly still fully intact. Bring hats or umbrellas because it is very hot.
This is one of the must-visit UNESCO HERITAGE Sites! The view will blow you away! The architecture of the various temples is intricately built and restored. Take your photos in any angle and it will look like a postcard. Haha... welcome yo Prambanan Temple guys!
Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, is probably the largest and best Temple in Indonesia. There are supposed to be 224 temples in the complex. The three significant temples are of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Attached to the three main temples are three smaller temples for their Vahana (vehicle) Garuda, Nandi and Hansa. There are also temples of Goddess Durga, Agastya, Ganesha. The temple is very popular among the tourists as well as locals. It gets very crowded during weekends, especially to watch sunset. It took us one hour just to come out of the parking lot on a Sunday evening. The view of the setting sun in between the majestic temples is worth watching. There is inscriptions of entire Ramayana on the walls of the temples. It require a minimum of half day to visit the temple. Though it's expensive a guided tour is a must to understand and appreciate the architectural wonder of this temple. A combo ticket with Borobudur temple can be purchased to save some money. I tried buying it at Borobudur temple, but it was not available, but the same was available at Prambanan Temple.
Very beautiful place. Our guide leaded us through Prambanan and it was so amazing. He has a very broad knowledge, know answers of all our questions, also the comparison between prambanan and borobodur.

23/Aug: Old historical temple for tourist attraction. Nice for photo shots. Many have yet to restore after been destroyed by the earthquake. This place nay not be as famous as Borobudur, but it's good to visit after all one have arrived in Jogja.
Recommended to visit early to avoid the crowd and not hot. Temple surroundings is clear of trees, thus not much shade for visitors

Upon exit, one have to go through the maze of shops similar to Borobudur, but not as aggressive like Borobudur.

Hindu Shiva temple that magnificent with position at the high ground, more higher than Riyadi Spot. There are 1 main temple headed west site and 3 accompany temple (perwara) with shiva temple at the middle (there is nandini bulls, the shiva mounts). We came at 16.30 pm, to got the sunset. The sunset start at around 17.15, but because of fog and cloud, we could not saw sunset over the horizon. The panoramic views quiet staggering. Althought had to spent more effort the reach the site, its worth it. Tickets For locals only cost 7k and foreigner 15k. Its 23th august 2023. I came with 2 Belgians guesses, and they impressed with the view and stated that day trip is the best!! みんなさんお疲れ様でした

Candi Ijo is a very beautiful temple in the hills and located not too far from the Prambanan Temple. People use this place for praying too. I would highly recommend you to come in the late afternoon to watch the sunset. It is so mesmerizing. You also can see mountains especially merapi mountain. The ticket is also very affordable. For domestic tourist, it is only 7K and 15K for international tourist. The parking is also only 2K for motorbike and 5K for car. The place is also clean and non smoking area. The toilet is also clean. The temple is closed at 6 PM so make sure you understand about that and set your time to be able to enjoy the beauty of Jogja from this temple. It is also close to Tebing Breksi, one of the popular tourism destinations in jogja.
Prambanan Shiva Temple is a huge temple located at a distance of 17 kilometers from the city of Yogyakarta near the city of Java, Indonesia. It is also known as Roro Jonggrang Temple in the local language.
I LOVE the Prambanan temple. I personally think it’s better than the Borobudur temple by a long shot. The temples are stunning and you can enter them! How lovely.
The grounds are quite massive and they have a shuttle bus to transport between some sites, but the schedule isn’t clear nor reliable. There is a museum, but there are no English translations available. I do feel the $60 USD entry fee could’ve been better delegated to address these things.
However, it’s still worth every penny!

Many ruins. Some intact and others fell apart since it's very old, over a thousand years. Beautifully sculptured animals and people. Good workmanship. It's located in Yogyakarta Special Region. A lot of visitors from other countries were there too. Good to take photos there. A lot of local guide who can speak many languages if you want to hire them and listen to the story of the temple. Ample parking areas.
This is a cute little temple, less crowded than the other big temples. Do give it a try, it's gorgeous when the weather is clear. Plus the entrance fee is super cheap too

I came back to this place after almost 1 decade! The 50k entry ticket is not too expensive compared to the extra care to preserve the preservation of this historic place even though I entered at a ticket price of 25k (students understand). The older this place the more beautiful. Prambanan is very well maintained, and extraordinary care.

Not only beautiful place to enjoy sunset in Yogyakarta, but full historical & heritage site. Easy to be accessed as well. Very recommended place to enjoy sunset and please take me with you as your guide😀!

Would recommend to visit Ijo Temple in the dry season, when you'd be able to see the wide vista from above. During the rainy season, the visibility is low and most photos taken look like black & white. The parking lot is across from the temple, entry fee is only Rp 7K per person.

The Candi Shiva Mahadeva temple, dedicated to Shiva, is not only the largest of the temples of Prambanan but also the finest. The main spire is incredibly aroun 40-5 m high and its stones are beautifully carved.
The Shiva temple contains five chambers, four small chambers in every cardinal direction, and one bigger main chamber in the central part of the temple.
Its base is decorated with small lions flanked by kalpatura (trees of heaven), as well as stylized half-human and half-bird kinnara (heavenly beings). Aren`t they 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥?
2) 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐧𝐮 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 :-
The Candi Vishnu temple is smaller than the impressive Shiva Mahadeva temple and sits just north of it, reaching around 30-40 m in height. Of course, we had to walk the steep stairs up to the top plateau. And it was totally worth the climb as the temple is magnificent containing reliefs telling the story of Lord Krishna who is the hero of the Mahabharata story.
The most impressive part of this temple is, in my opinion, the statue of a four-armed Vishnu the Preserver in the inner chamber. It is so really big and beautifully carved.
3)𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞:-
This temple is the twin temple of Candi Vishnu, as they are exactly similar! It is situated just south of the big Candi Shiva Mahadeva temple, so the two twin temples make a nice symmetric scene.
When you enter this temple, look up and admire the spectacular “monster mouth” doorway, which is beautiful.
𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 :-
Nandi temple – Contains a statue of bull Nandi belonging to Shiva, as well as the statue of Chandra the god of the moon, and Surya the god of the sun. Chandra stands on his carriage pulled by 10 horses, and the statue of Surya is also standing on a carriage pulled by 7 horses.
Hamsa/ Angsa temple – Contains no statue, but it probably once housed a statue of the sacred swan Hamsa for the god Brahma.
Garuda temple – Neither this temple contains a statue. Probably this temple once contained the statue of kite Garuda belonging to god Vishnu. Garuda holds an important role for Indonesia, as it serves as the national symbol of Indonesia, and also as the name of the airline Garuda Indonesia.
When you enter this temple, look up and admire the spectacular “monster mouth” doorway, which is beautiful.

Little is known about its early history, but it is believed that it was built by king Rakai Pikatan to mark the return of a Hindu dynasty in Java after decades of Buddhism. Prambanan was completely in ruins for years until 1937 when the reconstruction started, and it is still far from complete.
Even though Prambanan is a big tourist sight, it was peaceful and not too crowded when we visited. We could easily walk around the complex and take in its atmosphere. Prambanan is much more relaxed than Borobodur, here we were left alone and not hunted down by Indonesian wanting to take selfies with us.

Candi Barong is a Hindu Temple, in Java language : ꦕꦤ꧀ꦝꦶ ꦧꦫꦺꦴꦁ aka Candhi Barong. The Candi is located in Dusun Candisari, Desa Sambirejo, Prambanan.
According to history, Candi Barong was built between 9 to 10 Century and the Candi was re-discovered in 20th Century.
The complex is smaller compare to Borobudur or Prambanan. During the Pandemic the Candi was totally closed for public.

Candi Gebang is one of Hindu Temple located just very near with housing complex. Its very easy to reach the area even tough less direction sign. The place is quite clean and well maintained. Entrance price is IDR 5000 for local tourist and IDR 10000 for foreign.
It was nice to know there is another “hidden” temple surrounding the famous Candi Sewu and Candi Prambanan. Candi Kedulan is still in restoration progress now, since about a year ago (I guees). So visitors are not allowed to enter the temple main area.
Candi garuda terletak di depan candi Wishnu dan besarnya hampir sama dengan candi Angsa, yaitu berdenah bujur sangkar dengan ukuran 13 mx 13 m dan tingginya 22 m. belum lama ini dalam bilik candi ditemukan patung burung garuda yang di atasnya terdapat arca naga. Nice view and good knowing the heritage temple. Can see the shillouette when sunset. Peaceful
love the view, love the serenity, love the arts.. though simple but it's enjoyable.. we were guided by the hotel stuff who was very cooperative and nice.. we went there in the morning by bike it was part of the hotel service..
Feel the serenity of a temple where people used to worship God Vishnu (God of protection) and Goddes Sri (Goddes of rice). I was here during the mid day, but i suppose it would be a best place for sunset also.

Small temple with lovely green ambience. My kids was enjoy playing on the grass, it’s a nice place for them when difficult to find public green space in town. A li’l bit quite because a few visitors.
As compared to others temples surrounding Yogyakarta this one is less busy. Perhaps due to the scale of this temple, there's only one temple in the centre and a few small ones around it. However, dont let that fool you for this temple is comparatively as beautiful as others. Only because it is not that well-known yet. Oh, another thing the entrance fee is only one fifth of other temple fees which is 5000 rupiah.

Not as well known as candi Prambanan and Kalasan, but what's interesting is the sunken site at a depth of about 10 m. To the North you can see the Merapi mountain, to the West is the main entrance to the candi. Unfortunately, there's little space for parking your car, more convenient to use a motorcycle. The entry fee is Rp. 6K, there are some toilets to the left (West) of the entrance.
good place for a short holiday. this temple is located 6.5 meter below the surface, because it had been covered by the vulcanic dust.

in many ways this is better than Borobudur since there are less people and it is set in a big beautiful park with lots of trees and grass. if you have a KITAS use it and go to the local entrance. stunning for sunsets and interesting. local guides are very knowledgeable and will give a lot of interesting information.
Great place to enjoy sunset! Not too crowded like Candi Ijo and very well maintained archaeological site. They have large parking area too. Staff is super nice!

Comprising the remains of some 244 temples, World Heritage–listed Prambanan is Indonesia's largest Hindu site. The highlight is its central compound, where its eight main and eight minor temples rise up majestically like ornate 9th-century skyscrapers. Erected in the middle of the 9th century – around 50 years later than Borobudur – little is known about its early history. It’s thought that it was built by Rakai Pikatan to commemorate the return of a Hindu dynasty to sole power in Java.
What makes this ancient architecture beautiful is where it located. Its an underground level temple. Some says it has been buried when Merapi had massive eruption thousand years ago. Nowadays, this Hindi temple us becoming popular tourist destination among the others.

Candi Gebang is located in establishing settlement in the area of condong catur. Admission to Establishing only 5.000 IDR. Great for photography in the morning or afternoon.

Beautiful temple, so quiet and it has good ambience. No entry ticket, yet. Very recommended to read the short explanation of this Hindu temple, no English translation available tho. It was said to be built around 9-10 century and was used to worship the God Vishnu and Goddess Sri of harvest.
Be careful of the road towards here from Breksi direction,, It's quite rocky with a lot of up & down.. Better come here from Ratu Boko direction,,

Ok, historical place
You just need to pay at least Rp.2000 for park and Rp.3000 for entrance fee. So cheap. You can see the Ganesha statue over there. You can't come inside the temple but you can pray in front of the statue (for Hindu and the believers).
