Great date spot, was worried it would be a bit short but there was lots more too it than I thought there would be. We booked the planetarium show afterwards (We are Stats) which was narrated by Andy Serkis which I highly recommend.

Let me take you on a tour of our room. Let's start at the window, it doesn't close properly so you can enjoy the entire night's traffic from Ferry Road. Moving over to the bed, I made it up before I left my room in the morning, when I returned the room service had quite inexplicably messed it up, genuinely thought I had walked into the wrong room.
The cups and glasses I had used that morning weren't replaced with clean ones, and the tea /coffee not replenished. And in the bathroom, marvel at the black mould around all the bath, the sink that doesn't drain, the hairy floor and the greasy bath. Oh, and this was my replacement room, because I asked for the first one to be cleaned properly, and when nothing was done by 10pm the receptionist moved me. Did I mention the haunted drawer that opens by itself? Or the bright corridor light that illuminated the entire room around the ill fitting door? The damaged scruffy paintwork, broken giant clock, wheezy Aircon? It's a pity I didn't check trip advisor before booking, plenty of alarm bells on there. Easily the dirtiest rooms I've seen in a modern hotel, genuinely jaw dropping bad.

Absolutely beautiful hotel.
Reception staff could do with a little smile every now and again.
Gym staff brilliant! Red headed lady needs employee of the month as she was so friendly and willing to help.
Swimming pool is great!
Cleaning staff were fantastic.
It was just a shame about the bar and grill. I wouldn’t recommend due to the waiter who served us, we honestly thought we’d walked into a Karen’s cafe, rude just doesn’t cut it. No eye contact spoken to like an idiot, had no customer service skills and over charged us for our meal and eye rolled at us when approached to correct, he’d then under refunded us to which we got huffs and puffs and even more rudeness. It’s such a shame one person brought our experience down.

Have stayed here on numerous occasions, and for the past year have been taking my 3-year-old granddaughter swimming at the leisure facilities.

The pool is large, safe and warm. The staff are always very professional and helpful, making it an enjoyable experience every time. On my last visit, we were assisted by Brad and Joe on reception, who were both welcoming, friendly and very kind to my little granddaughter. Thanks, guys!

What an absolutely incredible place!!!!!

I came to Edinburgh for the first time a few months ago and didn’t think we would be back so soon so crammed everything into one trip. I came back and was lost for what to do. I have never heard of Dynamic Earth or seen it advertised so was pleasantly surprised to find such a gem!!

So immersive and absolutely incredible!

The only downsides were one of the exhibits was seated so I took my baby out of his pram and was directed towards booster seats for him. These booster seats, however, were not appropriate for his age as there was no fastening and it was far too big for him so I felt the staff could do with being trained better in that area.

There was also sadly no gift shop, I love a gift shop! But ah well.

The place itself was incredible and every room was just amazing

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and absolutely loved our stay. Rooms are clean & well kept as well as being nice and spacious. Lots of services & amenities available across the hotel especially the Starbucks on the ground floor was a huge plus. Staff at the reception desk are lovely & welcoming and catered to our needs and overall we had a very pleasant stay and will definitely be recommending!
A place that is worth visiting if you are curios about the Big Bang and evolution of life. There is two types of tickets,
1)For the exhibition and one planetarium show which is 30 mins.
2)Just for the planetarium show

During the 18th century, Edinburgh was one of the greatest scientific centres of the world, being a place where the idea of geological uniformitarianism was born. That legacy of scientific exploration and analysis has its 21st century ecological air in the dynamic Earth building. The building looks modern and sleek without being kitschy. It reminds me of the futurism in design that was extremely popular during the 1960s and 1970s, a time of unprecedented optimism about space and progress. As indicated by the name, the exhibits inside discuss growth and flux and constant transformation. Even the Scottish earth, the exhibit discusses, was formed in different waves over hundreds of millions of years, and even the rock to the north side of the island is much older than the rock to the south. Earth is not still and constant, but constantly morphing and transforming.
The staff on the greeting were very friendly, and the car park had lots of places to park.

If the hotel had an electrical charging station that would have been amazing.

The rooms were lovely and clean, and the shower was great and super warm.

The toilet and sink were also wonder, and we had plenty of towels.

The beds were amazingly comfortable and the pillows were very fluffy.

The overall breakfast was delicious not to oily or burnt in anyway, and the staff were just so kind.

One gentleman who was clearly into cars had a long conversation with me, and that made us feel happy as we were talking to real humans.

I wish the pool was open for much longer, as even if your going with children, a competent parent is going to watch their children and not allow anything to happen. Just something for the Village Hotel to consider as the kids were keen to use the pool/spa, but due to the busy itinerary that we had in Edinburgh, there was not time.
Great location for town centre accessible by bus.Great service, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast great with excellent choice from buffet. However found it surprising that such a large hotel/chain can run out of vegetarian sausages and pastries. Found bathroom particularly small in our twin room.

Generally okay. Room was smaller than expected when compared to other Village Hotels. The bed was on wheels so kept moving. Looked clean, however there were 2 dirty drinking glasses in our room on arrival. There was a huge clock on the wall above the bed but the hands were missing. There's a Starbucks on the ground floor for coffee and a bar/grill to get breakfast/dinner. The food there was nice. Staff were helpful and friendly.

A very interactive and guided earth history museum good for adults with kids over a variety of ages (10, 13, 15 enjoyed it in our group, but it looked appropriate also for younger crowd). It's very guided with timed transitions between rooms, so allow at least 1.30 hours to pass through it and come together if you are in a group - it's almost impossible to catch up later. We particularly enjoyed the time elevator and the lava.
I've been a member of the leisure club for over 7 years and can say that the staff are always on hand to assist with workout machines, free weights or general gym assistance. The pool, steam and sauna are also great! Always clean and well managed. I would highly recommend the hotel for a break in Edinburgh and I would highly recommend becoming a member of the gym.

If you are curious about how our planet came to be and how it works, you will love Dynamic Earth.
This attraction lets you witness the power of nature, travel across space and time, and even join a 4D adventure around the world. The staff are helpful and well-informed, and the exhibits are engaging and fun.
Dynamic Earth is a great choice for all ages, but especially for kids who enjoy exploring and learning. It is situated near the Royal Mile and the Holyrood Park, so you can also visit other sights in Edinburgh. Dynamic Earth is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and you can get your tickets online or at the door. I think Dynamic Earth is a must-see for anyone who wants to have a fun and educational day out in Edinburgh.
Enjoyed our time here.. i would recommend it for ages 9 and above.. i was happy to find a halal choice meal in the cafe inside.. after we finished from the museum we had a great time walking around the area outside.

Overall decent, quiet hotel, free parking on a weekend which was a nice surprise.
Breakfast was nice & the waitress was very friendly, happy to meet any requirements we had.

Spa/gym on site, for an additional £5 per room, you could use the sauna/ Jacuzzi etc, definitely worth it.

Pro: has iron/ironing board, hairdryer.
Con: no Safe/ mini fridge

I haven't been to Dynamic Earth in forever, and as it was a rainy day, I decided to go with a friend. Our unfortunate luck was that we decided to do this on the same day the Royal family decided to visit Hollyrood so taking the car wasn't ideal. The way in to find parking isn't very well signposted but after a few wrong turns we found it. It is quite expensive so be mindful if you are planning to spend a good few hours that you're charged on exit for however long you stay.
The attraction itself is good, but literally exactly the same as when I went as a child. The videos that play, the pictures and pieces haven't changed in years but the overall feel of the place is great. I love the addition of the climate change issues and it definitely flows better now than I remember from my last visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the planetarium show was charming! I would definitely recommend it if you have kids or if you are just looking for something to kill a few rainy hours in Edinburgh!
I would recommend booking online so you can pretty much gp straight in. We booked the same day we went so as long as there's availability you should be fine! I would also recommend booking your planetarium show either half an hour before or at least 2 hours after your tour- especially if you're with kids who want to spend time in every room, or a larger group who need time to let everyone experience every room!
There is a small café area but the food is quite expensive so I would advise bringing your own or eating elsewhere, and there is a gift shop right at the end of the tour so be careful if you're taking kids as again, it's quite pricey!
Overall, a nice day out and very nostalgic, but a little on the expensive side!
Came with a group so we didn't pick our own rooms. Our room was ok, beds were comfortable and the room was pretty clean. Housekeeping left our window open one day which was a little disturbing. The food was alright. Dinner was generally better than breakfast in my opinion. The location is very convenient for the bus though since it's right next to the zoo.
Pros:
Good location for the zoo and public transport to the city. Restaurant recently refitted, clean, and the food was adequate and reasonably priced. Breakfast selection is very good. Staff all friendly and helpful. Basic cleanliness in the room was ok - clean bedding, clean towels, toilet and sink clean also. The view of the hills from the room was stunning.

Cons:
Corridors need redecorating and some carpets were stained.
Rooms cleanliness was lacking attention to detail as was some of the general maintenance. We had to move room as the first had no working air con, shower wasn’t working properly, black mould in shower area, broken bed legs. The team were very helpful and understanding and moved us to another room without issue.

Second room was better but unfortunately still had some issues. We decided not to report this to the staff as we had no desire to move rooms again. Air con was working but the vents were dusty, carpets had stains and hair, walls scuffed/marked, dirty water in kettle, mould in bathroom around bath/shower area, toilet flush broken, headboard dirty, windows dirty inside and out, furniture tired and marked, tv not much use as it’s locked down the a hotel interface and only 10 channels worked. No plug sockets next to bed and limited sockets in the room, shower didn’t keep consistent temp (although it was an improvement on the first room).
Restaurant, whilst nice and modern and clean, lacks atmosphere and is huge open plan making it very noisy.

Back stairs exit to main road smells damp, some stained carpets, dirty windows

Further Update:
The General Manager has been in contact with me and has shared that the rooms will start a refurbishment program this coming October (2023). They also stated they plan to deal with the cleanliness and general repairs we reported. With that, I've increased my scoring for service as the GM has reassured me that our complaint has been taken seriously and a partial refund has been offered.
A delightful stay at Holiday Inn Edinburgh. Member staffs were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the double bed was comfy. Very happy to see a bathtub in the washroom and Starbucks coffee was served at the hotel’s restaurant. Breakfast buffet was great too. Highly recommended!
Lovely location just outside the city centre.
Bus stop just outside the hotel so easy to travel in and out city.
We chose this hotel as was by the zoo and it is literally next door to the zoo so amazing if your wanting to visit.

The hotel was clean and the rooms are of good size, the beds are a little hard but comfy.
We had breakfast and it was so lovely with lots of options to choose from.
Also had dinner and it was lovely too!

If we come back to Edinburgh we would stay here again and bring swimwear to use the other facilities.
