I went to this sushi train and majority of the food on the train looked very old. I ordered off the QR code and waited 40 minutes before asking the lady if my order had been missed, she then said it will be 3 minutes. I then sat for another 20 minutes before receiving my ONE PLATE of sushi. There was only one lady on shift doing everything or lack of. All of the tables had dirty plates on them, and it wasn’t even busy. Very disappointed with the experience.
This is in my humble opinion one of the best quality sushi trains in Australia, and I have tried LOTS of them from Sydney to Perth. The fish is incredibly fresh, the rice cooked just right! The prices also very reasonable. Very pleasant surprise!
I've been a loyal customer here for over a decade, visiting several times a week back then. It always felt like coming home, with the staff being so warm and welcoming. Returning to Gold Coast, I made sure to revisit this establishment. However, after ten years, I noticed significant changes, not in the food, but in the service. The staff are now incredibly cold, lacking basic greetings or eye contact, making you feel like you're invisible. It's truly disappointing.
Worst service EVER!!! And this place is filthy dirty. I haven’t been to this location in 15 years until today (lived closer to other Sushi Train locations) and it has not change at all. It’s in desperate need of an update. It just feel gross. And like the utensils, floor, tables aren’t even clean. Dirt is visible on everything. Also, they literally had one staff member on (and that was the sushi chef), nobody at all in the entire restaurant to help with any requests. I had to search for somebody to help me and she was sitting down eating at one of the booths. This is so unprofessional. Will certainly never be back

Mr. Kojima bento lunches are the best kept secret at the Gold Coast. I can't believe the amount of food you get for $18.50.

They have the best chicken teriyaki. I've tried almost everything in the menu and most of it is good, but the chicken teriyaki is out of this world!

The kingfish Carpaccio and tuna tartar on crispy rice are not too be missed.
BISHWAA!! Absolutely EGGcellent chef! Thankyou for making the night the most memorable and enjoyable for all of us, in particular for Ashton the 3.5 year old and my brother and sister in law who had never experienced teppanyaki before! The entire Koo Koo team tonight really made us feel special and looked after from the very beginning until the very end but seriously… Bishwa…. CAN I GET A HOOOOOYYYYEAAAHH???!! You had us captivated, you were so inclusive and your food was delicious!! Thankyou for the laughs and for being part of a family memory we will treasure forever. Wishing you and the entire Koo Koo team the most merriest Christmas and an even better new years xx Keep up the good work, Koo Koo!! There is a reason we always come back and there is a reason you guys are the best!!
Reasonable and delicious ramen with friendly staff. Well, the restaurant itself is just good. But other restaurants here are all terrible.
We had our staff Xmas party at this venue last night, Jason was our chef and he was amazing. Food was fantastic and we all left very full. A great night was had by all of our workers and their families. Thanks for your service
The service and food were excellent, I had a portion of takoyaki and a sake cocktail, both excellent. I would definitely eat here again.

Awesome restaurant and service! Participating in the acts with the Chef was awseome and we had a great time. The Chef was awesome and very entertaining. Food was perfect! Special thanks to Chef Jason (served us today for dinner).
Otherwise, Great place for a great time.
Very rushed, and poor service.
We booked for 7:30pm, arrived a few minutes early and were directed to take a seat at a waiting area which is fine because we wanted to order drinks.

Staff brought menu’s over and told us we had to pick our meals. We asked if we could order drinks first and were told no, not until we are at the table we have to order food now. Most restaurants you can order a beer while you wait…

So we chose our mains, and then not too long after sitting and waiting we got to the table and were allowed to finally order drinks which they messed up.

Saki came out, but no beer. Then one beer. We assumed the other must of been coming, By this time (about 30 minutes in, most of the food was already served, I had to ask again for our beers which finally came over but still no water. Had to ask again for water.

By 8:15pm we were all finished our food and they were packing up, a whole 45 minutes since arriving for over $600 and we were ready to go as they were cleaning the grill and needed us to move on for next group. Would of loved to have enjoyed a bit longer dining experience, but I guess they make their money by pushing groups in and out and fast as they can.

The food -
My food was good (I ordered the gourmet menu set - no complaints from me!) but all who had lamb said the lamb was chewy, and those who ordered fried rice said it was massively overpowered with garlic. The chef was great and is the only reason this place got 3 stars otherwise I would rate it 1 star if just based on service.

Amazing!!! Jason was our chef and he was witty, skilled and cooked the food perfectly! We had the absolute best night, cocktails were delicious and atmosphere was perfect. We were at the early seating with another family and kids all enjoyed it too! If you are staying at surfers you must go!!
4 stars for the overall experience! What a great chef we had and I loved the entertainment. I was however slightly disappointed in the food. It was nice and fresh but I found some of it was very salty and oily- and I love salt so that’s saying something. But I otherwise really enjoyed my time here.
A place with zero service. We used to visit this place every time when we came to GC but this time was a total disappointment. We are a group of 4 adult and 1 little kid. There were only 2-3 tables of customers when we arrived. We sat down to settle the little one and started scanning the QR code to order/look at menu. The waiter came around and said we shouldn't be sitting down as other customers would come in finding no table/seat. Well if you do not let consumers look at menu / order using QR code, why would you have the QR codes sticking on the tables?

Well when our noodles arrived, we requested for an extra bowl so that we can pull some noodles out to cool down for the kid. The waiter refused our request saying you ordered the extra noodles, you can use the extra noodle bowl for that purpose. For my whole life in AUS, I have never got a refusal for extra plates/ bowls / cutlery. Not too mention the extra noodles and the bowls they come in are also hot...There's no way for us to use that bowl to cool noodles down.

This place is now removed from our GC list permanently...
Seek and you shall find... this local gem of a Japanese place is tucked away in a small side-path lined with empty shop fronts. Though their English isn't great, their sincere service - in the manner of the Japanese - comes across. I got their chirashi for takeaway today. It was very fresh and delicious topped with its generous assortment of sashimi and the like. The rice was also well seasoned with little strips of nori mixed in.
Asami Teppanyaki is definitely what they say they are, it’s the place to be!

Our second time dining here at Asami Teppanyaki. We are so amazed by the overall experience again. Food dishes were wonderfully presented with yummy sides and fabulous cocktails. The show experience itself have been nothing but amazing, Chef Jomar knew what he was doing and made sure to keep us entertained throughout the whole experience which we enjoyed a lot! The customer service were professional and have looked after us really well. The venue had beautiful ambiance. The fire from the show was my top favourite of the entire experience besides the yummy dishes!

It’s the most fun we’ve had dinner out in a long time. Really look forward to coming back and dining at Asami Teppanyaki again!
Super tasty!!!! I love the design. It was so so cozy, feel like home, with a small kitchen and few tables. Always busy. Free Japanese tea and it was so tasty. The sushi and sashimi were so yummmm. The wasabi was not too spicy so I assumed it was real wasabi. The price is very fair as well. We hot large sashimi platter for $48, 2 sea urchins sushi and 2 salmon roe sushi. 1 grilled unagi and adegashi tofu and all of them made me so impressed. Highly recommend. Only 3 people in the shop but they still managed very well and very friendly staff. The shop was located in an alley so it was like a hidden gem. Definitely will come back here next time I visit Gold Coast.
Note: they surcharged card payment and 15% on public holiday so bare in mind.
I feel I’ve arrived in Japan🇯🇵
This place offers authentic Japanese cuisine prepared by skilled chefs. The prices are affordable, and the food is delicious. The interior of the restaurant is reminiscent of traditional Japanese eateries.
A friend and I always visit Surfers Paradise every year for a getaway. This time around, it was my friend's birthday, and Yamagen was recommended by his colleague at work.

Food:

We had the following dishes.

SUSHI & SASHIMI PLATTER / $45
Chef's selection of seasonal sashimi & nigiri (12pc)
SASHIMI TACOS / $24
Salmon, wasabi salsa & tuna, mustard soy, yuzu avocado, warm sushi rice, nori, watermelon radish, house spicy mayo
GYOZA / $20
House-made & pan-fried wagyu beef, miso mustard
SOFT-SHELL CRAB / $22
Soft-shell crab, cucumber, tobiko, wasabi mayonnaise
SALMON AVOCADO / $20
Tobiko, shiso

All the food was great! not complaint with the dishes at all.

Service:

On 06/10/23, we were served by a very polite waitress who guided us on picking dishes on the menu and recommended a great cocktail for our last drink.Very happy!!!

Atmosphere:

The ambiance was great due to the fit-out sparking a great authentic Japanese experience.

Would I go back to Yamagen? YES
Why? Because I'd like to try more food on the Menu.

We had dinner here two days in a low when we stay at Gold Coast. The seafood is fresh and all dishes are tasty. My toddler daughter loves the udon. The service is great too!

What an experience! My husband and I are celebrating our marriage and was gifted with a good time out at this amazing restaurant. I didn’t know what to expect but I was well and truly blown away!
Amazing food and cocktails, and our Chef was hilarious! My cheeks hurt from laughing so much. The service was impeccable, and they even brought out cute little cakes with a candle for us to blow out, it was a nice touch.

Definitely a must do! Highly recommended 🙌🏼
Very authentic Japanese ramen. They give extra serve of noodle, when you order a bowl of ramen.
Service was very quick. The ramen was cooked just right👌broth was not too thick, just right 👌
I will definitely go back there.

My husband and I enjoyed delicious meals here that tasted authentic.
We really enjoyed the mochi ice and banana spring roll dessert.
5 star place but I would dock points because this restaurant charges for sparkling water and they don't tell you about it until you pay the bill.
I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try for a genuinely authentic Japanese dining experience. Although it's not in the most convenient location and has limited seating, the food is exceptionally delicious. The unagi rice and matcha cheesecake were incredibly tasty.
Nice interior designs and great customer service. However, their foods quality isn’t great as expected. Sashimi was not fresh enough, the way they cooked the tooth fish wasted the fish.
We had an incredible experience & wonderful meal here tonight!!! All the dishes were delicately plated with well balanced flavour profiles 👍🏼👌🏼 My all time favourites were the Urimaki rolls and especially the dessert, Mt Fuji Apple - it’s an absolute must try 🤤 The cocktails were really amazing as well - courtesy of the excellent Mixologists 🍹 A big shout out to Samson our waiter and to Cameron - your service was second to none & it was an absolute pleasure to have you serve us, and help make my Daughter’s birthday celebrations a memorable one 🥰 You guys are an absolute asset to Yamagen 🙌🏼
I visited twice in my recent Gold Coast visit. The staff are very kind and the food is great quality. Very fresh and portion sizing of the hot meals is very generous. I thought it was great value for money. I specifically recommend the chicken curry, s&p octopus, and the gyoza.
This is a teppanyaki restaurant so it’s never going to be a cheap option for eating. However, here you money goes a long way. Firstly as you enter you notice the atmosphere to have a genuine Japanese feel to it, complete with the sounds of other guests laughing and cheering as their chef dazzles them with his juggling and dexterity whilst cooking fabulous food. Secondly having booked a sitting the staff are there ready to take you to your table, where they hand you a very comprehensive menu which is easy to follow, and includes a huge drinks menu. The food quality is superbly fresh and tasty and is continually cooked and delivered to your plate. One of the best Teppanyaki restaurants I have visited outside of Japan.
Chef here are an absolute riot, keeping us in stitches with jokes and stories. He even pranked us, claiming it was his first day, but he was a total pro! Waitress are friendly and helpful, explaining everything since it was our first visit. Overall, a great experience, but I really have to say that the portion is pretty small haha.

It was a really warm place here. We had birthday dinner here last month for my husband. Just a small note on my booking information, but all staffs kept that in mind! He got the blessings right after we checked in. He got a little pudding with a candle as a surprise! Truly thank you for doing that. It was so friendly and impressive. Regards

Really awful food that was burnt and over salted, badly presented and all in all not worth the plate. Chefs knew how to have a hit rate of throwing food into peoples mouths 40% of the time. Lighting alcohol on fire and dropping their tools and laughing it off. One menu for food and one for alcohol which they push often and regularly. When asking for water they offered still or sparkling when I said normal water they disdainfully said tap water quite loudly. I can see why they would write their messages in salt, it’s a chef special. Lots of children crying, breaking things and generally just bang things around trying to copy the “chefs”. Give this one a miss.
Don't be deceive on how this restaurant looks like from the outside as this is a hole in a wall restaurant. The food here is absolutely amazing 👏 My friend and I shared the mixed sashimi and the prawn salad. Everything we've ordered is just fresh. The stuffs are very friendly and rhe seevice is 5 star. Our food came out really quick. I highly recommend this place and I would definitely go back.
Wonderful experience!! Kids loved it and all food was delicious. They catered for GF and egg allergy 👏 Our server Ethan was extremely attentive, and the chef was fun and engaging! We will definitely be back again when we are visiting next! Thank you 🙏
Came from Sydney for the weekend, Cameron & Sam were our waiters they were so lovely and their customer service was AMAZING they recommended some of their favourite dishes & drinks which they were right were amazing!! Food was amazing and drinks were even better! Will be back!! Thank you Sam & Cameron especially for the amazing experience you gave us!!!!
The food was AMAZING - best Japanese I’ve ever had and the service was lovely. Thank you so much for everything!
During my stay at the QT, I decided to treat myself to a meal at Yamagen. The evening was quiet, making it easy to secure a reservation. However, upon arrival, the host seemed a bit distracted, possibly by his phone, which slightly marred the initial impression. But once I was seated, the ambiance and service quickly made up for that fleeting moment.

Choosing the Sakura Fizz Mocktail was a delightful decision, where the blend of Lyre’s London dry pink spirit, fresh yuzu, cherry blossom syrup, and other ingredients harmonized into a sweet but balanced concoction.

One minor setback was the unavailability of tasting menus for solo diners, which I found a tad disappointing. But, my chosen dishes didn’t let that feeling linger for long. The Aburi Tasting Set showcased fresh ingredients with impeccable presentation; the salmon, scallop, and kingfish each leaving a unique, delightful taste.

Continuing the journey, the thinly sliced Kingfish Ceviche was a dance of flavors, perfectly balancing the subtle tang of lime zest with the crunchy toasted almonds. The Truffle Wagyu Tartare was a bold choice, both in flavor and texture. The MS6+ wagyu was delectable, although the ao nori potato crisps posed a bit of a messy challenge.

To conclude, the Passionfruit & Coconut Panna Cotta was an exploration into a unique fruity realm, reminiscent of a "corgis" flavor palette. Venturing into this dessert was the right call, as it offered a refreshing divergence from past dessert experiences here.

Having dined at Yamagen before, this experience only deepens my fondness for the place. It strikes the right balance, whether you're in for a celebration, a casual outing, or a formal dinner. Without hesitation, I'd recommend Yamagen for a splendid Japanese culinary experience on the Gold Coast.
This is a superb restaurant. The food was extremely delicious, the staff extremely professional, helpful and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was wonderful. A more expensive restaurant for that special occasion.
I expected the rich soup of real Japanese ramen, but it doesn't taste deep and it's too light. Chashu wasn't impressive at all either. The staff was kind.

Excellent service and very authentic Japanese Izakaya.

Thank you preparing the baby seat for us before we even arrived at the restaurant- highly recommended!
It's a Japanese restaurant that really feels like it's in Japan. I can feel the pride of Japanese owner chef . It is a place that I visited three times during the week of my trip. The texture of sashimi is really soft, and the freshness of seafood is fantastic. I've tried various menus, but all of them taste more than basic.
Great selection of food at a very good quality and the QR code makes it so easy to order something that isn't on the train.

A wonderful place for a family dinner or a starting point for a big night.
Very fresh sashimi! I had nice dinner there to celebrate my daughter birthday. Friendly staff! Will come back next time

Our first time experiencing Teppanyaki - and it was amazing. The chef is so talented and entertaining. We went for lunch (around noon) and we are vegetarians but they didn’t disappoint. They gave us some miso soup and salad to begin and then we ordered some veg teppanyaki and some veg udon noodles. The veggies and Tofu was super delicious. Udon noodles were slightly sweet for my liking but my husband liked it - so guess it is a preference. Overall it was a great experience.
It's absolutely amazing. 5 stars all round what a great dining experience. This was one of the best highlights of my trip to Queensland, so good. Staff were fantastic. The chef we had was fantastic. Absolutely a must do. Thanks to everyone at Misono

I have been coming here for almost 20 years and well my whole life, with my parents coming here longer than that. What can I say but the food is consistently fantastic and authentic. With the lunch bentos being a staple memory of this restaurant for me. Coming here with my dad when I was small and having a karaage bento for lunch, man those were the days. I highly recommend the karaage lunch bento, the cheese spring rolls, which have my brother and I hooked on it as they are just unbelievable good, the pork gyoza, with my brother saying its the favourite hes had, even with us travelling to Japan before and various other countries, ten-zaru soba, just a classic and authentic japanese meal, and the teriyaki chicken, I have had teriyaki chicken at many different establishments, however this is quite unique flavour wise and is this just phenomenal.

Service here is fast, friendly, and generally just great.

The atmosphere is quite nice with the setting being a bit more open. Just a personal must go to japanese restaurant, in Surfers. Can't recommend this place enough, from its food, staff, and atmosphere.
Was Far from a Pleasant Dining Experience when I visited Koo Koo Teppanyaki in Surfers Paradise.

Located on Surfers Paradise Blvd next to “The Island” Or as Locals would know it “The Islander”

I arrived & my dining companion that made the Reservation, was running a few minutes late. First I was told I couldn’t sit at the designated table & So sat near the Bar.
As soon as I got a drink and had sat down. I was Then instructed to sit at the designated table !! ??

A Fuss was made about my dining companion Being Late !! (It was probably around 10 minutes in Total that She was late !!).

The Chef was a Pleasant enough guy & served up what Appeared to be Appetising Dishes. I Say “Appeared” because All I was doing Was Watching Everyone Else get served & eating !!

Everyone, Including my dining companion had Finished their Course, (Hers were Scallops) & the Hot Plate was being Scrapped Clean by the Chef. When I asked how my Squid was coming along ?? He said he Will Cook it Now because there was No room on the Hot Plate before !! ?? So, some people at the Table were being served their second course, Before I had my first !!

The staff seemed to be wanting to clear away the plates, while I was still eating.

Shortly after I finished and While We Were Talking to the Couple Seated Next to Us. We Were All asked to Move and sit Somewhere Else !! ??

The Whole Experience Seemed Regimented & Rushed & Certainly NOT Worth The Expensive Cost !!

There Are MUCH Better & Far More Relaxing Dining Alternatives in Surfers Paradise !!

Every time we are on the Gold Coast, we go there for dinner. The food is so well prepared and served, staff so lovely and polite. Highly recommended!
Food was really decent. Sashimi was fresh and tasty, and the cooked items were really well done. Interesting and innovative items on the menu too. Highly recommend the beef skewer with wasabi butter.

I stumbled upon Mr Kojima on a night out with friends after our initial dinner booking elsewhere fell through. I can not speak highly enough of the food here. We ordered the omakase for about $65 and were pleasantly surprised with the variety of dishes we were given. The staff were attentive and accomodating of dietary requirements, and the food was brought out at a decent pace so as to not leave us starving and waiting. Overall, the food was of great quality, really great taste combinations, and we were arguing which dish served was the best. I’ll be back.
The original and the best Ramen available in Surfers Paradise.

After more than 40 years this estate still goes from strength to strength with locals and tourists alike.

Friendly service with genuine Japanese ramen chef who takes pride in preparing authentic stock with akk the flavour of Tokyo.

A simple menu that will delight the most discerning ramen tastes. There are many newer ramen restaurants... though in the heart of Surfers Paradise this is by far and away the best for price..freshness quality and taste.

Don't miss out..

A pleasant surprise. We actually had reservations at another Japanese restaurant, however that one left us disappoint as they were unable to honour our reservation. Stop forward Mr Kojima, they were able to get our party of four seated quickly and we opted for the Omakase menu, which is more akin to a 'feed me' set menu where they do the hard work of picking what to eat. $65pp, we weren't sure what to think, but there was. Huge amount of variety and definitely enough food to leave you content with a full belly. Some highlights included the Wagyu beef on a sizzling cast iron, the pork belly and the tuna tartare with crispy rice bites. The staff were super nice and knowledgeable, especially as one of our diners required gluten free food. Very happy that we stumbled upon this little gem and we will definitely be back when we visit the Gold Coast again!
Really good. Broth was good, not too thick nor too thin, just fit in my taste. Not too salty either. All just good. The price was good as well. Authentic like it said..

I would not get the uni. It was disgusting. Totally not worth the $9. The smell was a bit fishy and the taste...omg it was beyond decomposition. I'm not even exaggerating, my friends and I love sushi and have had our share around Australia. My friend spat her uni out and we left 1 behind. It was that bad. I don't even know why they decided to serve something that old.

I got disappointing takeaway from here. My Karaage rice bowl was very uninspired. There was karaage (a decent amount) on top of unflavored rice, a few greens, and a dollop of mayo on the side. The bento boxes had a tiny quantity of food - they didn't look as good as the photos on here.
Top notch restaurant, recommended by our friends. Excellent service and great food. So much and so full at the end of the imperial banquet. We also ordered sashimi platter and oysters. I'm not usually an Oyster eater but I really love the ones from here no metallic taste at all. Great atmosphere the chefs make the ambience fun. You pay for the excellent service and food, great for occasions. Thank you we will come back again!
Been here forever and never ever changes. Quality and freshness of the food is amazing. Small quiet Japanese sashimi cafe, just like the ones in a quiet alleyway in Japan.
Amazing food and fast service, seems very busy. There is a time limit for eating (1.5hours)
Highly recommend wagyu beef sukiyaki but every
other dish was just was delicious.

Food was very tasty and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Not badly priced for the area, very enjoyable meal.
Fantastic experience & perfectly cooked beef teppanyaki!!

I must say I was so surprised to see real teppanyaki table showmanship here in Australia! The chef was enthusiastic, had next-level tricks & brilliant cooking!

Don’t be deceived by the stars on my review! I really enjoyed myself in this restaurant.

The part which I didn’t like was the ambiance, the dated seats & tables and slightly unappealing interior. I paid close to $300 for 3 people, therefore I expect better surroundings. I would have to say the restaurant needs a renovation or some upgrades. I will probably not return to this restaurant again.

But overall I really loved the food, we had a great time, and the service was up to standard!

If you just got into Gold Coast and you’re looking for a sensational meal plus some table entertainment and you’re not really critical about the interior of the restaurant, this restaurant might be a great spot for you!

Great location as well!

The Delight Set ended up being way to much for my Asian stomach! I gave almost half of my meal to my son.
Love the sashimi and sushi here! Always sooo fresh and delicious! Last time we came was 4 years ago, must try their chirashi sushi 🥰 For me it definitely has one of the best sashimi we have had in Oceania. 🥰

We've been eating here since February 2017 and really love it, as a great Japanese restaurant right across the road. The wait staff and chefs are all so friendly and lovely, the food is delicious and the ambience is cosy and inviting.
Very tasty Japanese style ramen with very reasonable prices and blazing fast service. We have tried the nagahama ramen, miso spicy ramen and shio spicy ramen. All very nice and they're only mildly spicy so can be enjoyed by most. If you're particularly hungry I recommend ordering extra pork with your ramen on top of the already included extra ramen.

This restaurant has an authentic Japanese vibe. Their chicken don, wagyu sukiyaki hotpot and sashimi were average and felt a bit too bland. Service was extremely nice. I would highly recommend house made match icecream dessert, serving size for one person.
We were checked in JW Marriott and decided not to venture out for dinner on our last night before our flight back home to Melbourne the next morning.

Was looking forward to the teppanyaki and I wasn’t disappointed but the best part of the whole thing was the experience. The chef was entertaining and really engaged the guests.

Special mention for me is the ebi tempura. It reminded me of the one served at my most favorite Japanese restaurant my family always ate at since I was a kid back in my hometown. I’ve been looking for tempura like that for a long time and this just hit all the right spots for me.

Not too many photos of the food as I was too busy laughing and eating and enjoying with my family.
We booked last minute which was good as we love coming here. Wide selection of food. The chef was very friendly and was able to cook the vegetarian dishes first before contaminating the hot plate with the meat proteins. The drinks are cheap and they have a wide selection wines as well. We ordered a few cocktails and mocktails. Food and service was excellent. We loved the tricks and highly recommend the seafood meal.

The chef has great jokes and throws egg at you that you try and catch. We loved doing this. At the end he wrote upside down and drew a cartoon character that we chose. Amazing service and food!
Very busy, need to book before coming in. Loved this restaurant, the staff and the food! We ordered on these tablets which made ordering quite easy. The staff kindly explained the food we were eating since it was our first time and they checked in on us every now and again. Loved the service! Wide selection of Japanese alcohol. Very authentic experience, will definitely visit again if I come back to the Gold Coast!
I always make sure to drop by Hatakaya whenever I’m in Gold Coast. Their ramen is super authentic and extremely tasty even after so many years. Not to mention, the portion is big for the price you pay for. Also, they give free extra noodle! That’s service right there.
For the same price we pay at franchise ramen shops, we can only get half the portion and the taste can’t even compare to Hatakaya Ramen.
The only bad thing I can say about Hatakaya is, they refuse to open new shops outside of QLD 😭

The staff don’t remember which group of customers came first and that caused somemisunderstanding between the waiting groups. I felt that they should just give out number or write on paper the names and group sizes for those waiting to dine in to avoid unnecessary misunderstanding between different groups. Especially most groups are tourist who are exhausted from a day out and hungry. The sashimi is highly recommended. The sushi is good and is big size compare to sushi in Asian countries. The ramen is decent and you will love it if you miss Japanese food. Don’t forget to order a beer to go with the food!

Enjoyed the sushi and Japanese beer on tap.

Sushi Set B had a good variety of nigiri including uni. To top off, the rotating sushi train was filled with wonderful rolls, sushi and even some crunchy spring rolls.

The Asahi beer imported from Japan and served in an ice cold mug with a perfect amount of head was crisp, refreshing and a nice complement to the meal. Not all Asahi are the same so really appreciate the fact that they went with the made in Japan version rather the brews made abroad under the supervision of Asahi. Tastes much different.

Service was friendly at this mom and pop establishment. Got here at 5pm dinner opening to avoid the crowds.

Now the food actually wasn’t bad, so food alone it’s 5 stars.

The sashimi was great, the sushi was large portioned, the hot pot was beautifully cooked, the rice was lovely and the udon was wonderful.

I loved the shot of sake as well it was smoothest I had ever had.

So food wise I cannot fault honestly!

However food is just 1 component of a dining experience and what let us down was the service. From the moment we got in I felt rushed and felt like we weren’t valued customers.

It was not customer centric, not for us at least. We had a pram and they weren’t helpful to allow us keep our foldable pram away. Fine I get it. It blocks the road. (1 star off)

Then we ask for hot water - response, oh we don’t serve that as a beverage. There’s a million reason why someone would like hot water, baby food was ours, but even a lot of elderly would like some warm water and that should not be a way to gauge $$ seriously. (1 star off)

Finally soy sauce was knocked over, the waiter said he will come clean it. Never came to clean it (per photo). (1 star off)

But I gave it 1 star back for just how good the food quality was.
I dare say the this place is the best experience I have had at an Izakaya restaurant in the Brisbane/Gold Coast region. This is in terms of the quality of the food, the service, and overall atmosphere of the restaurant.

On this first visit with family, we tried the Wagyu Sukiyaki, the Crispy Salmon Roll, Unagi Don, Buta Kimchi Udon and Karaage Chicken. The highlights from this for me personally were the Wagyu Sukiyaki, Buta Kimchi Udon and the Crispy Salmon Roll.

The total cost ended up being around $40 per person (with a total of 4 people), and I would highly recommend coming with a group so that you can all try lots of different dishes.

Booking is a must, as the restaurant is very busy, and you generally have about 1.5 hours to sit down and enjoy your meal. The food was served in a relatively quick fashion.
We popped in for dinner and didn't need a booking - we sat in the sushi bar section at the front as we just wanted a casual meal. We ordered tempura prawns, mixed sashimi and torched salmon nigiri. Everything was amazingly fresh and tasty and the food was made right in front of us. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Our waiter was lovely too. The aircon is a bit fresh, take a cardigan

Excellent genuine Japanese served by friendly Japanese hosts.

Came late on a Saturday, plenty of space, and quiet so we could talk and wind down after a crazy day.

Food was delicious, perfectly lightly seasoned as one would expect of Japanese cuisine. Left quite satisfied!
We have visited Misono a number of times and they always deliver. In previous visits we chose to sit at the Teppan Yaki tables and enjoy the show, but this time we chose a la carte and sat at the sushi bar. The service was great and the sushi chef who has been at the restaurant for 26 years is a fun time. He even took our photo. Check out this beauty of a sushi roll (my wife’s favorite spicy tuna roll) is next level. And we ordered the Teppan seafood extravaganza which was delicious. Terrific sake menu and an amazing atmosphere. You won’t be disappointed!!
Misono made the night Amazing! Went in for dinner with my husband, fresh Sashimi and the teppanyaki portions were huge! Experienced a great service and an entertaining chef throughout the entire meal. Definitely will be back again.

Absolutely Amazing.
We randomly walked in when on holidays and they offered us Omakase - where they pick the dishes - thought why not? Amazing value and amazing food! Some of the best I have had. I don't always love Japanese food but this was exceptional. Great night, great service, great food and drink knowledge by the team and Amazing cocktails. Loved it 🥰

Almost but not quite. All our favourite Japanese places were booked out in Surfers when we stumbled on this place. We couldn’t figure out if it was open or not but saw a single table of Japanese people there. Pretty generic food but friendly staff made a difference

We've been coming here to the Sushi Cafe weekly for several years, and have to say, it is our favourite Japanese restaurant on the Gold Coast!

The staff are all so friendly and lovely, warm and welcoming, the ambience is cosy and comfortable, and the food is DELICIOUS!

Over the years we've tried a wide variety of meal options from Teriyaki Kingfish and Salmon to Vegetable Tempura, and Prawn and Scallop Ceviche to Lotus Root Chips (warning - addictive!), and Prawn Gyoza, Mushroom Cutlett to an array of scrumptious sushi options.

As a huge sweet tooth, the new addition of chocolate cake with ice cream has made me VERY happy! This chocolate cake is AMAZING. It is the lightest, fluffiest cake I've ever had, and I could eat it all day!

We will always come back here! Such a gem of a restaurant just down the arcade on the main road of Chevron Island.

YUM!!!

Great service and we'll priced. Authentic Japanese food (been 10 times in the past decade) and they had great lunch sets. They also have Suntory on tap (rare in Australia but common on Japan).

Sashimi was very fresh and cut well. I loved my ten don (tempura rice bowl) - the flavours worked well and the tempura is crunchy and not at all oily, it still retains its original flavours. The cold Udon was springy and the dipping sauce as good as any in Japan.

Traditional Fresh Japanese food and the flavour s are amazing. Just outside of the glitter strips so they say but so worth the 5min walk.
We had the most amazing experience as the attention to details of Japanese dishes.
The service was amazing and we will definitely become regular diners as this is just near our home.
Sensational Sushi Family Feast at Sushi Train, Gold Coast😃

We had a delicious sushi feast for our dinner at Sushi Train Japanese restaurant in Surfers Paradise.
Everything was freshly made & very tasty. We had a lovely variety of sushi & doubled up on a few of these dishes too.
We really enjoyed this family dinner on our Gold Coast holiday.

If you are in Surfers Paradise & love sushi, then definitely check out Sushi Train restaurant.
Low quality ingredients, not many menu items, missing popular menu items, food rotation needs better management. I've eaten at sushi trains all over Australia. This is not the usual standard and the first time I didn't enjoy my food. We are a little and then left.

Another great sushi train in Surfer's Paradise. Not much variety on the belt but you can order them to be freshly made. Quality is really good. Service is good with mostly Japanese staff.
I have been very loyal to sushi train for the past six years in another state. I am Happy to say that this is now my local and has been for the past five years

The first time I went there, I was pleasantly surprised by friendly and helpful service.

They don’t mind at all, substitutions. And as I get minus “this” and plus three “that’s”. And it came out just the same as I’ve always received back in Sydney. I am happy as a dog barking, a bird flying or a pig playing in mud.

Food is great, fresh and highly recommend eating here or having it delivered

I I checked my delivery services and 400+ times I’ve had sushi train delivered to my home since moving to Queensland

Unfortunately hidden from the main road but a great restaurant.
Service was polite and attentive.
The food was awesome, not pretentious but well made wholesome Japanese food.
I really recommend the fried oyster (can't find it everywhere), and the cocktails are really good, pretty and fairly priced.
Awesome value for money!
