Came here for Christmas Day and I couldn’t be happier for my experience. When a place can excel on their raw food it tells a lot. I had the Tako Sunomono and the Houston Roll and a couple of more crunchy rolls during their happy hour time. The food was fresh and well prepared. Erica S was our server and she gave us a great experience and recommended some good items from the menu. I’m glad to see that this restaurant has been able to maintain the quality throughout the years.
We went there for business gathering a few times. They have plenty happy hour selections to acommed our preferences. The overall food quality are good and the prices are reasonable.
Our last server, Caesar, is very friendly and funny. He showed us how to do a sake bomb. We never had that before, it was fun.

This is likely the freshest, most amazing sushi I’ve ever had. Stunning. Don’t let its upscale food court location deter you. This place is legit.

Bang for your buck. Drinks, Sexy roll, Beef Tar Tar, and varied Nigiri for under $90. Great location for a reasonable date!

The quality of the food was outstanding and the quantity was generous. The restaurant seems to be genuinely trying to exceed customer expectations, which is always good to see. They have a casual seating space and the prices are reasonable. I’d highly recommend this restaurant!

We found this place recently and have been here 5 times already. The food is always prepared with care and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure we are happy with our meals. The vegan and vegetarian options available leave me more than satisfied! Highly recommend 😊

This is my first time at Azuma. I will note that my experiences with sushi are typically at AYCE joints or somewhere cheap/affordable like Oishi.

The food has been really good. Even though the sushi/fish is more expensive than I’m accustomed to, they have a wide variety of hot and cold appetizers that my friends and I really enjoyed and filled up on. Special shout out for the fried calamari at a mere $8. (This place easily warrants at least two $$s in terms of cost)

I wanted to make a special mention to our server Cha-Cha (please excuse the spelling) - she is absolutely incredible with superb service. Very welcoming and revisiting at the perfect cadence, we never wanted for food, drink, or water. If I may be so cheeky, I would recommend her as your server if you do come visit.

Atmosphere is super cozy. They have some inspiration from original Japanese architecture that really helps the restaurant stand apart from the plethora of other Houston restaurants.

Do you like cocktails? This is a great place to have fun with friends and coworkers over an array of fun cocktails! Well mixed and modestly strong, I will definitely be revisiting this establishment with friends.

This was a really good restaurant. The sushi was extremely fresh, very well presented and delicious. The restaurant was packed and pretty loud. Casual conversation, unless in the ear, was a bit challenging.

And note, this isn't your everyday sushi kickback. Check the menu prior to arrival to see what I'm talking about. But would love to come back when in town.
Decent happy hour but rolls are small for price. Good drinks and fast service.

A recommendation from a Houston local….casual yet trendy atmosphere…very prompt seating and service was very attentive and friendly.
Started off with the shishito peppers texas wagyu slider and pork belly papaya salad. Peppers was portion nicely but overall pretty average. The salad kinda threw me off from descriptions…I had the impression it was like shredded papaya salad but it was ripen papaya that topped off the cabbage slaw mixture. Really threw off the flavor profile since it was really sweet and the slaw needed some extra flavor and tanginess. The wagyu slider was super fattty and rich…very tasty. Sashimi however was definitely top tier. Super fresh and just the right amount thickness. Definitely a great place for fresh sashimi.

Tucked in a clean and sleek food hall, we decided to stop in for a midweek splurge. We ordered a bit of everything and were very impressed with every bite! The only thing I didn’t really care for was the gyoza, everything else was delicious! You must try the kinoko nigiri and the wag you toast. They were divine! All the ingredients were fresh and so flavorful. Service was also friendly and efficient but we were also the only ones there. Definitely recommend!

My friend and I went to Kokoro when visiting Houston for work. We stayed somewhere in walking distance and wanted something delicious and affordable.

The food hall has a great vibe that is chill, intimate and is frequented by a diverse crowd.

Our favorite dishes were the Karaage, Hamachi Maki and Hotate Serrano.

We also ate the Spicy Tuna Maki, Ebi Maki, Wagyu Maki, Shishito and Nassu.

Some people next to me got the rice with an egg and that looked delicious!!

I would absolutely go back to this spot! Delicious 😋

Place looks better than the food tastes. For the price you're better heading to RA Sushi on Westheimer for better tasting fish. I love when servers are attentive but checking on the table every 5 minutes in the middle of conversation/ taking bites is too much. Also asking in the middle of the meal if "we are still working on it or need a to-go box" was annoying.

This place is hands down the best restaurant for a relaxed date night with yummy food. My partner and I have been here twice and each time we were treated with graciousness, kindness, generosity and respect. They are genuinely kind people, and display such hospitality that I would love to come back every date night specifically for the service. Food is amazing as well, our favorites are the Yakisoba and the crab puffs. They are sweet and loving and care deeply for their customers and the dining experience.

I loved the atmosphere and service. I'm not a sushi eater but one of my close friends is and we went here for her birthday. Our waitress was great and very attentive. He made great recommendations. If you like/love sushi I would definitely recommend going here. All of the employees are great! One of the servers took our pictures at the end of the night and we really appreciated the time he took to make sure they were great!

Excellent sushi with outstanding wine and spirits list.
MF sushi presents a fine dining experience in an elegant venue dominated by wood-based, modern interior design.
The fish is the highest quality and prepared to maintain a nuanced flavor profile sticking to the more traditional Japanese cuisine.
Their wine, cocktail and spirit list (which includes plenty of Japanese whiskey and sake offerings) is well built and drinks can be easily paired with whatever dishes one may choose.
The service is very attentive, in fact a bit too interactive , constantly asking questions and interrupting conversations creating a rushed experience.
We have visited the place several times already and will certainly return.

This was an overall great experience. The service was excellent, and they always made sure we were very informed of what was going on with the menu. We tried to tasting menu. Which was a little bit of everything. This was hands down some of the best flavors of sushi I've ever had. If you're looking for a great upscale dining experience on sushi, this is your place to go. I recommend the tasting menu and the wygu steak on the hot stone. For more food eats and travel places, follow me @bigdaddykteats

First time tried Omakase by Chef Diego for my birthday and it was astonishing! Previously went for sushi rolls and loved it (despite the restaurant being far from my house), but after trying the chef chosen variety of appetizers, sushi and sashimi will be back more often. The dishes we tried were so distinct – fusion of Japanese cuisine with modern touches. Plates were decorated as art creations; taste surprised and satisfied the palate, the textures were marvelously fused. Perfectly combined flavors and highest grade seafood were perfect for celebrating my special occasion, want to return for more.
The place may not appear luxury or chic but food definitely is the top quality. It has been open for many years and still provides excellent quality and service (as sushi connoisseur I noticed the trend for quality to do down for many high end sushi restaurants). Definitely will be back and highly recommend as best place for Omakase in Houston.

Outstanding experience at this sushi restaurant! We indulged in a variety of dishes, all of which were truly amazing. The nigiri set was satisfying for two, with portion and quality exceeding expectations for the reasonable price. The foie gras and uni stood out as favorites, and even their udon, which we're usually not fans of, was perfection. The dessert was both adorable and delicious!!

Best sushi and Japanese cuisine we've had in Houston so far. We went on a Friday night, and decided to go back Sunday for lunch. Most tender beef skewers. Texas Wagu Sando's are amazing. Service is very quick and they love to keep the table neat at clean. Cocktails are interesting and strong. They have a great Saki collection. Staff can tell you all about the menu. Black pepper sashimi was our favorite, and it was reasonably priced. A must try if you're in the area. We will be back.

After driving past this restaurant for a while and hardly even noticing it, my wife and I decided to try it for our date night. What an enjoyable experience!

My wife is a sushi and seafood fan, and she was in heaven. She ordered sushi and their seafood salad. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. I ordered the Katsu Curry. It was a surprisingly large portion- I couldn't finish it all. The curry was flavorful, the pork cutlet was juicy, and the breading was crispy. Perfect.

Service was attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant is small- and it was busy. But it was quiet and very relaxed. Perfect for a date night.

I look forward to coming back soon!

Great bar sushi experience. The Aiko and Handies concepts were great so we expected this one to be as well and it delivered. We got a bunch of things but the sashimi and wagyu toasts were our favorites and the crudo as well. The chicken fat rice was the only miss for us. We’ll definitely be back
Soma is a great spot with a fairly extensive happy hour selection. The service was amazing as always. I would definitely recommend the pork belly buns and ceviche shooters as those are two of my favorites.

Service was great but food was downhill from the time we went there 3 yrs ago. I ordered braised pork belly. It was too salty and if it is salty like that it is supposed to be buffered by plain steamed rice , but they served it with rice soaked in all the sauce and so there is no balance and that is not how Japanese food should be. Not coming back.

This place is decent. Pretty empty and big inside for a Saturday night which isn’t a great sign usually. We got the dumplings which were the best thing. We also got the blue fin and o toro sashimis and they were ok. The chirashi sashimi selection was also ok at best. We also got the firecracker roll which was good but you couldn’t taste any fish so is it really sushi?

We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef’s tasting menu. It was truly phenomenal - I don’t know how I will ever return to grocery store sushi after this.

It was not as expensive as I was expecting, we spent around $220 for two people (no drinks, and before tipping). it was a good 10 courses that were all incredible and filling. My husband doesn’t normally like mushrooms but the Kinoko Nabe was a revelation for us both. As mentioned in many reviews, the Wagyu Nigiri will probably change your life. The fried milk was SO delicious.

Every course, every piece, every ELEMENT of the dishes presented was done in an amazing way, it was a true experience that I will treasure forever.

Not my first time at MF Sushi, but the last time I went, I really experienced much more than a normal sushi place.

Service was excellent, food was delicious and exotic.

Place is little pricy but worth it. The sushi experience is off the chain.

To have a fully great experience, book the sushi bar.

You'll have to order sashimi to taste the different fresh cuts of fish.

Located in Museum district, valet available.

Highly recommended. Cozy place and perfect for dates.

Exquisite Japanese Culinary Journey

Good review for Japanese restaurant

ChatGPT

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uchi, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was enveloped in an ambiance that transported me straight to Japan. The attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant was commendable, and it set the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey.

The menu at Uchi offered an extensive selection of traditional Japanese dishes, each prepared with the utmost care and precision. As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I was delighted to see both classic favorites and unique creations on the menu. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent in every bite, and the flavors were beautifully balanced, showcasing the chef's mastery of their craft.

One standout dish was the sashimi platter. The slices of fish were impeccably fresh, melting in my mouth with every bite. The presentation was a work of art, and the variety of fish showcased the restaurant's commitment to sourcing the best ingredients. Additionally, the sushi rolls were simply divine, combining innovative flavor combinations with the highest quality ingredients. It was evident that the chefs paid meticulous attention to every detail.

The service at Uchi was exemplary. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the cuisine they served. They graciously explained each dish and offered recommendations based on our preferences. Their warm hospitality added to the overall dining experience, making us feel like honored guests throughout the evening.

The interior design of the restaurant was elegant and thoughtfully curated. The minimalist yet cozy décor created a serene atmosphere, allowing the focus to remain on the culinary journey. The attention to detail was evident in the fine craftsmanship and traditional elements incorporated into the space.

Oh my goodness this place was amazing. The lunch bentos were so, so good. Highly recommend the beef teriyaki bento box. So much food for such a great price. Parking can be really tight here, so I recommend coming here for lunch. Reservations are encouraged for dinner.
The food is delicious. And service is great. I was very glad to see multiple options for various dietary preferences. Appetizers are very original and the specialty roll is a must. Sushi is top notch and is definitely one of the main reasons why coming back is a must.

Small restaurant with great service.

The lunch special menu is totally with it. I had three maki rolls from the lunch menu. The Houston Roll was good. The fish were fresh. The roll was wrapped tight and neat. The Philadelphia Roll was typical. Good and fresh. As for the Tiger Eye roll, it was my favorite. The flavors were great. The roll was warm, mild spicy, and the soy paper wrap made it perfect. Miso soup came complimentary with the rolls. Miso soup tasted good. I also had cold sake to go with my meal. Yum!

Came to celebrate Mother's Day, great atmosphere, i had to request they not sit everyone in the same area especially since its such a big place. The prices are ok. We order the pork chive gyoza, the korean spiced chicken wings with were basically buffalo wings with sesame seeds. The Crazy Irishman roll which was alright and the Creamy Mermaid roll which I really enjoyed. Also got the raw octopus well my daughter tried that not me lol. All around its a pretty cool spot the waitress is very slow and we have been waiting 15 after we've finished to ask for the check but shes attentive when she notices, so ill tip her great still. They need to sweep on the other side of the booths tho definitely dont wanna eat my food next to dead roaches!

The food was extraordinarily fantastic but the service was not great at all.

We waited for a long time every time we needed our waiter. He was always no where to be found. In fact, we don’t know why he insisted on serving us because the other waiter was serving the surrounding tables whereas he’s always elsewhere. We waited for a long time to get soy sauce. We waited yet another long time to get a spoon in the end we gave up and shared a spoon. We waited for a long time to get the hot tea refilled. We waited for a long time to order extra food. We tried to ask for help from another waiter but he chose to ignore us. We really didn’t expect this kind of service from a place like Uchi.

Second visit at the sushi bar and the service was slightly better. Our sushi chef was abit quiet whereas the other sushi chef Albert was funny. Better experience this time I guess.

We were disappointed in the tuna and scallop sashimi at Osaka. We were also disappointed in the manager's response when we told him the scallops were sopping wet and flavorless. He did nothing to fix the issue and in fact said, "Japanese scallops aren't sweet." Really? That hasn't been my experience with scallops! We also questioned that the semi fatty tuna we ordered was actually what we were served. Plus we had asked to have it dressed and it was not.

We did like the rolls with the tempora batter cruch on top, hence the 3 stars and not lower.

Nippon is wonderful! I tried miso soup, sashimi (salmon, tuna, seabream) and the Dragon Roll, and they were all super tasty! The food is fresh and feels great to eat, especially for the price! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and the servers are attentive.

Dined in before catching a movie on a Saturday night. Seated pretty quickly at the bar. Efficient and friendly service — food came out fast despite the place being full. It is a small restaurant, but has a parking lot out front — great considering this is in Midtown, where parking is usually a hassle.

Ordered the spicy hamachi, nemo roll, and houston roll along with some nigiri pieces. Would order the hamachi and escolar nigiri again, along with the Houston and nemo roll. Spicy hamachi had a good kick because of ponzu flavoring, but probably would not order again (had tempura, was understandably a little warm, but prefer my sushi cold). Wasabi had no kick or flavor.

The best part is the restaurant is open until midnight on Fri / Sat and 10pm every other day —- a rarity as most places close by 8 or 9 on the weekends. Spent about $25-30 per person, but could drive that down; relatively inexpensive compared to other local sushi spots.

Absolutely amazing experience at Nippon! We tried a bit of everything, couldn’t be happier with the freshness and taste of all the dishes. The waitresses were all welcoming. Overall one of the best sushi and ramen experiences we’ve ever had. Would definitely come back when we visit Houston.

The food here was delicious, I got the gyoza and takoyaki as appatetizers, both were incredibly delicious and the takoyaki was a new flavor that I really liked. I got the Yukiudon chicken with beef, and like with the other foods I really enjoyed it. It's a nice and small joint. Spent 28 all and all.

Food: 8.9/10
Service: 9/10.
Atmosphere: 9/10. Fun, casual setting.
My husband was very impressed with this place. It’s located inside a food hall. Really cute. Everything was made fresh. I personally enjoy the spicy tuna maki and their nigiri. Staffs were super nice. Expect to spend like $30-45 per person b/c the portion is small (or maybe it’s just small for me :) ) Overall, I would rate this place 4.5, not my most fav but it definitely deserve a 5 stars. The reason for 4.5 rating is I still feel st missing from the taste, just a personal preference thou.

I had a lovely time here at Fukuoka. The wait staff was very attentive. One of the waitress (I think her name was Suzanne) continually gave us amazing recommendations that were so delicious. Highly Recommend!

Update: I’m sure the other food is still good, but ever since the first time, the ramen has been a complete miss. Broth tastes just like the pack ramen broths now. Idk what happened.

Best Ramen I ever had! Yakisoba was amazing as well! Very accommodating to my vegetarian sister! Will be back!

Made reservations for my friends daughter's birthday and they were able to accommodate our big group of 13 people. The place is very small but they do have good seating arrangements inside and out. The service was AWESOME and the drinks and food came out quick. I enjoyed everything, the food was fresh and had a lot of flavor. They were also very sweet in providing my friends kiddo with complementary Mochi, YUM!!!

We went on a Saturday night so it was crowded but thats to be expected! We got the o-Toro sampler that was very good! Then the crazy roll (that was good), caterpillar roll (didn't have a lot of eel but was decent), chirashi (very very good!), and for desert we got a banana tempura with ice cream (thr banana didn't taste like anything ans the batter was really thick, the ice cream was good, just didn't taste like matcha). Overall a 4/5!

Walked in on a Saturday night and they are flexible enough to put us on the bar table. Menu is quite comprehensive but not overwhelming. Nigiri and sashimi were super fresh. The rolls were good but the ingredients in them quite identical, maybe I ordered the wrong thing.

I’d highly recommend the “Signature A5 Wagyu Beef Tartare Aburi” and “Otoro Nigiri”

Our Server Jackie was awesome, super attentive and professional.

Definitely a gem, given reputation of the restaurants around downtown area. Convenient parking. Friendly staff. Tried their Ebi Salad, very delicious appetizer. Ramen is on point! Very pleasant experience here!

Great food and great service. My wife loves Japanese curry and this place satisfied her craving. The sushi tasted fresh. The ginger dressing on the salad was different than other Japanese restaurants in a good way. I could not place what was different. It just was.

Anotherrrr spot added to my list. I don’t really like eating shrimp ramen because a lot of spots just don’t get it right broth wise, but this was amazing. The broth was so fulfilling and savory. The shrimp were cooked nicely but the veggies really set it off. If I could i would order the shrimp wonton twice. It’s that good. The seafood gyoza was a nice snack with a nice sweet spicy dipping sauce. Highly recommend

A fantastically warm and close environment. It can be a bit noisy, but if you're in the mood for an active and fast restaurant this is the place to go. They brought our order out fast and it tasted amazing. The presentation was a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed how nice our server was, she was expedient with refills and with taking down new items to bring us. We didn't catch her name but she had blonde and brown hair and did a great job. We also got several desserts that came quickly after the end of the meal and the sweetness was a great counter after all the sushi we ate. Their menu is expansive with a lot of options to choose from and will definitely be coming back to try something new.

I have been trying there different Vegan meals, and have been enjoying them. The vegan of the sea poke bowl was surprising tasty, if a little overpriced and not quite as filling as I'd hoped. They are in my rotation now for lunch.
Highly recommended...
This place was fresh but not like I was expecting...Not like it is in Hawaii 🏝
Missing the crab for sure 😥
We did enjoy our meals, we all did custom bowls.. Definitely a return trip in the future

Really good poke place in the heart of downtown. They have a great verity of toppings and friendly people and using the app was easy to order. I ordered using the ritual app during their 1 super downtown special and was able to enjoy a quality fresh poke bowl for a low price.

Great time, every time. The staff is attentive but unobtrusive. The food is delicious. We received a complimentary appetizer and dessert!! Agadashi tofu and a series or rolls, worth the price!

Decent poke but the ramen here is fantastic. It's very fair priced and delicious. There are no ramen places in this part of downtown so if you're craving a good bowl I highly recommend poke fresh.
