For Tuesday’s lunch, my brother suggested @zenjapaneseizakaya. They had several lunch specials…they all looked really good.

Hubby and SIL both had the Tonkatsu Bento. I had the Sashimi Bento, which was so much food! Brother had the Chirashi. Dad had the Unagi Bowl and the Tempura. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Feb-9: You know you're in the right place when you hear the sushi chef speak Japanese and several tables had Japanese speaking diners! Diverse menu. All of the dishes were good. They do cut their sashimi quite thick, requiring 2-3 bites per piece. Ask for salmon belly sashimi to be blow torched!

Genuinely surprised this place isn’t busier! We stumbled upon this place when our weekly sushi spot, Izakaya Wa, was too packed to seat us.

Their sushi quality for the price is amazing!!! Their menu says they bring in their fish from Japan and the quality shows! Both times we’ve been here, the service has been great and the ambiance is a good mix of nicer but still comfortable (perfect for date night)!

I have been going there for 3 years, and seem they are going downtrends. They used to be good food and service, and the last time made me disappointed. Entries came way beyond the appetizer. The shrimp tempera inside the shaggy dog roll is cold. Renkon hasamiage fried skin is too hard to bit, and not crispy at all, and it came after I finished my sushi and roll. I totally understand it takes longer to prepare, but as a general service quality, the waiter should able to ask the kitchen prepare the appetizer first before preparing the sushi.

We love eating here to go or dine in. The service is always really great, along with the food of course. The last couple of times the restaurant was a bit warm inside. Other than that, I enjoy the quiet and "zen" atmosphere. It would be great for an intimate date or catching up with a friend.

Step inside to Zen, home to some of the most authentic Japanese food in Houston, for an incredibly delicious dinner. Recommend making reservations in advance as the word is out about Zen and it is often busy. We shared a mix of starters including the delightfully delicate agedashi tofu, ikagesu karaage (fried squid legs), gyoza and edamame before buri kama shioyaki (salted and grilled yellow tail fish. The food was so good that we ordered more including hamachili (yellow tail sashimi with a kick) and then the extreme picante sushi roll with spicy salmon topped with various spices, eel and a spicy pepper. Two extremely positive signs - majority of other patrons were Japanese and ordering much more than one would normally eat because of the food quality. Basically, highly recommend for top quality, authentic Japanese food.

I randomly came here on an occasion to explore this adorned place. Even though without a reservation, the host improvised me a good seat during their happy hour. The food splashed my palate with orgasm in fresh and refreshing flavor. Their dipping soy sauce has a very pleasant umami sweet that complemented well with the sashimi.
