Wow! This was the best Japanese food outside of Japan. The owner is extremely kind and when you walk in you immediately feel the love and passion for Japanese culture and cuisine. I enjoyed every single bite of the Udon vegetable tempura, it was absolutely outstanding. The tea was also extremely delicious and I even got offered a glass of sake. Thank you so much for this experience, it absolutely made my day and the food was delicious.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to, the food, the tea, the traditional way of serving and the amazing design.
The stuff of very friendly and invested in the restaurant, and it shows.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for superb dining experience.
Amazing restaurant for anytime of the day. The service is topnotch. The guy who served us, Janidhu, was very polite, excellent service and very presentable.

the food was amazing and we will visit you guys again.
One of the best places to have the original Japanese ramen in Colombo. Food was really good and tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpful with selections and we had a wonderful dining experience. Environment is cozy and beautiful. Really worthy for the price and portions are very good.
Highly recommend this place for ramen lovers.
For an authentic Japanese dining experience in Colombo, Shikisen Japanese Restaurant stands out as a top choice. Located in a convenient spot in the city, Shikisen offers a serene and stylish setting that perfectly complements its high-quality cuisine.

The restaurant’s interior is tastefully decorated, providing a relaxing atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. The service is exceptional, with a knowledgeable and attentive staff ready to guide you through the menu and offer recommendations.

Shikisen’s menu is a celebration of Japanese culinary tradition. The sushi is a highlight, featuring fresh, high-quality fish and expertly prepared rice. The sashimi is equally impressive, showcasing the freshness and delicate flavors that are a hallmark of great Japanese seafood. The ramen, with its rich and flavorful broth, is another standout dish, while the tempura is light and crispy, providing a satisfying crunch.

Presentation is meticulous, and the attention to detail is evident in every dish. Although prices are slightly elevated, the quality of food and the overall dining experience make it well worth it.

In summary, Shikisen Japanese Restaurant delivers an authentic and enjoyable Japanese dining experience in Colombo. With its exceptional food, attentive service, and elegant ambiance, it’s a must-visit for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts.
Best place for authentic Japanese cuisine! We had a great time here! Loved every dish we ordered! Especially my cocktail!

Best sushi and dumplings I had in a while. And for a reasonable price.
💯 recommend this place for Japanese food lovers 👌🏻
I have been here twice now. The reason I returned again was because I loved the food the first time. The portions have stayed consistently huge. But I found during my recent visit that the broth is too salty. But might just be me. I am so glad I tried the milk pudding this time. It's THE BOMB! MUST TRY! Now I think I will return again for this.
I recently dined at this one and it was an exceptional experience. I tried the Omu-rice, which featured a delicious combination of chicken, vegetables, and rice layered under a perfectly cooked omelet. The flavors were well-balanced and incredibly satisfying.

Another standout dish was the Chicken Katsu Don, which had tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and perfectly cooked rice, creating a delightful and hearty meal.

A special mention goes to Damith, who was extremely helpful and gracious. He guided us through the menu and helped us choose the best dishes. Additionally, the restaurant provided a private dining area, which made our meal even more enjoyable. The variety of healthy food options was impressive.

Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious food, outstanding service, and excellent dining environment.

I recently visited this place and had a bad experience with the food. The setting was nice but the hiegene standards fell short of expectations. The sushi rolls which was the main highlight were a let down and not even the wasabi was spicy; the fish seemed old and not fresh. There were flies inside, which made it disgusting to eat. The prices were okay, but if the sushi isn't good, it doesn't really matter. Owing to this experience, I won't be having sushi for a while.

Nice small Japanese restaurant in Colombo 7. Good sushi and other Japanese food 🍱🍣! Manuranga was very nice and helpful. Parking available.
This Japanese restaurant may not be your most authentic experience but it hits a great mark on food. The food we ordered were spot on and quickly served, which was great. Service was good and the place was also designed well.

We definitely enjoyed our lunch and will be back to try a few more items.
My parents treated me to a wonderful Japanese lunch at this restaurant. It’s quaint and has lovely interiors reminiscent of a Japanese restaurant. We really enjoyed the food, every dish was authentic and we were told that all the ingredients are brought down from Japan. The presentation and taste of the food was phenomenal each dish unique. A true feast for the eyes. Overall was very impressed with the quality Japanese styled dishes. I would be remiss if I do not mention the amazing service staff he was very amiable and helpful. Last but not least a shout out to the wonderful owners of the restaurant it was truly a pleasure to meet Mr Saman and Mrs Nayana, both of them were incredibly welcoming hosts and were very attentive to us and kept checking on us. I wish them both all the very best and continued success.

Decided to visit kami_maki_colombo since they were said to have dishes with a fusion of Japanese and Srilankan cuisine. Their menu was very interesting and there were many options with Japanese and fusion cuisine.

It was the first time we tried a maki roll with pol sambol and cheese and it was surprisingly tasty it was the highlight of the day.

Ordered tuna Sashimi platter, chicken gayoza and Beef spicy roll. All these were tasty, the only thing was the spicy beef roll was Very heavy for the stomach.

For mains we ordered A Sticky Crab rice made with Ginshari rice and for a side dish we ordered a dish called Kochchi Kithul teriyaki. Both were very good and can recommend those.

Biggest disappointment was that the wasabi they provided with sushi was not up to any standards and not good at all.

The restaurant ambience gives out an old worn out vibe, maybe since we visited on a poya day where the restaurant was almost empty other than us.

Overall the food was great and worth what you spent, since they were not super expensive. For all above with two drinks, cost was around 12k.
I’ve been here twice and this place is nice to eat some comfortable Japanese food. My choice was a chicken yakisoba that was tasty and filling, and tantanmen with addition of an egg which was not spicy at all, but it was mhm okay. Definitely would visit this place again once in Colombo.

Hey there! So, I recently tried out this awesome Japanese food restaurant and let me tell you, it was amazing! The sushi was fresh and delicious, the ramen was flavorful and comforting, and the tempura was crispy and perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and the ambiance was cozy. Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience and I can't wait to go back for more tasty Japanese dishes!"

I visited this sushi restaurant because of a social media offer💬
I already purchased the coupon online and it was only Rs.1500/=💲
Food items were tasty😋
However, the customer service needs to be improved☹️
We tried different noodles and they tasted good, but prices might be high for locals. The atmosphere is nice, service is quick, but they don't offer a wide range of authentic Japanese food. I also had a tasty mocktail.
Discover a taste of Japan at this restaurant, where the food is simply delicious and the atmosphere welcoming. Every dish is made with care and bursts with flavor. The staff are friendly and know a lot about Japanese culture and food, making your experience even better. It's a great place to enjoy a meal and learn something new about Japanese cuisine.
Thank you, Mr. Perera, for your treatments. 🍝
Delicious food and a fantastic experience. This restaurant is located in One Galle Face Mall 6th floor. Little bit crowded when I visited but the service was great and didn’t have to wait for long. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Had two bowls of Ramen and each one was LKR3000 beef/chicken broth you can choose. They also have a mini bar with sake and soju. Overall experience was good and will definitely recommend the restaurant.

Went there in the weekend around 2-3 pm. Had a very good experience.
The service was amazing. The guy served us was very nice, calm and attentive.
The portion size felt small but it fills you up. Food was well presented and tasted really good. Panko fried chicken was specially delicious.
The prices of the food is a little high and they have a 10% service charge.
A small parking space is available.

Food is absolutely amazing. Staff is extremely helpful in choosing dishes of your choice. Must finish rice bowls while it's still hot. Every bite is heavenly.
Beverages are also very good.
This place is an oasis found inside busy and crowded OGF.

Ideal for dinner dates for couples who are into Japanese food.
Indulging in the exquisite flavors at my favorite Japanese restaurant is an unparalleled experience. The ambiance exudes sophistication, complementing the impeccable service, making each visit truly delightful.
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in town. The food is always fantastic, and no matter what I order, I am always delighted with my meal. Not to mention, they make the best cocktails and mocktails! Servers are also great and always efficient, happy, and polite. I can’t wait to return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to eat delicious ramen.

Special appreciation to Ishanka at the bar for making us amazing cocktails and mocktails.

Reviewing after multiple visits
We tried "Rich miso - Chicken" in here and I must tell it was really really taste. One portion can be managed to two persons. I really recommend. Try it ❤️

Both ramen broth quite good, noodles also tasty, however, chicken meat was not good at all.
Service is lacking attention, forgot to bring the drink and the starter, the 3 of them were just chilling at the bar talking or on their phone.
Would only come again for tantan ramen since there are not many other options in Colombo.
I went there solo, and accidentally chose the place. but it was not a one second disappointment. The vibe is good, staff is good. that was the first impression. Then it's time for the food, and it also amazing. I ordered a pork Raman. I'm definitely going to visit this place several times.
Perfect setting to enjoy a perfect meal. Definitely going back. We wanted vegetarian, and were very happy with the dishes that came.
This Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem that promises a culinary journey through the flavors of Japan. With a diverse menu offering a plethora of Japanese delicacies, this place is a treat for the taste buds.

The food is not only delicious but also provides excellent value for money. The variety ensures there's something for every palate, and each dish is a testament to the authenticity of Japanese cuisine. From sushi to ramen, the flavors are exquisite, making it a must-visit for Japanese food enthusiasts.

While the prices are reasonable, the speed of service could be a tad quicker. However, the wait is undoubtedly worthwhile once you savor the first bite of their delectable offerings. The pleasant atmosphere adds to the overall dining experience, creating a cozy ambiance that complements the exquisite flavors.

The food was delicious, the staff was very friendly, the restaurant is small yet spacious enough for a small group to sit and enjoy, and the music playing in the background was high energy. The restaurant serves no alcohol but you can bring your own alcoholic beverages which I thought was a pretty cool option. The only reason my rating is 4/5 is because prices have gone up significantly in the past couple years…which would be fine if the food and drink quality can match that price increase. However, overall I really enjoyed my lunch here at Sushi Kai, I will definitely come back again!
Fantastic rooftop terrace!
Japanese liquors and cuisine must create a unique and enjoyable experience.

Stout beer paired with various rice dishes has created a satisfying blend of flavors.

Sushi Kai boasts a diverse menu featuring an array of Japanese delicacies. During my visit, I opted for takoyaki, curry rice, yakisoba, and ramen. However, the ramen's eggs, arrived hard-boiled instead of soft-boiled, slightly detracting from the anticipated taste and texture.

One point to note is the extended waiting time for orders. Despite minor hiccups, Sushi Kai delivers on the taste of Japanese cuisine, offering a satisfying experience for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts seeking genuine flavors.
Late post: This is my 3rd visit to Zen. It is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner by the pool with your loved one. The setting is blissful & serene at the same time. Customer service is too exquisite with no doubt. But however I believe the quality of the food is degraded since my 1st visit. Although the tempura prawn & fresh tuna deserves a chef kiss, the rice in Donburi dishes was way too dry ( not sticky texture ) I ordered donburi tuna & Don teriyaki chicken where the chicken was too rubbery & too sweet for my tastebuds. Again not a fan of the teriyaki pork- it was mere bacon soaked in too sweet teriyaki sauce. I sincerely hope this is a one time thing although Colombo economic crisis have hit the food industry by thundering storm.
Best Japanese food in town! This humble establishment has an authentic and traditional ambience. The owner and team provide great hospitable service. And the food is delicious! As someone who's eaten in Japan the food at Shikisen is of the highest quality. The owner advised that the ingredients are actually all sourced from Japan, even the oil. Would definitely recommend visiting.
The food was really good with a good portion and worth the price. Staff was welcoming. Although there's little space, you can enjoy an authentic Japanese food. Would visit again.
Food is amazing, the choices wine were limited. I believe the portions have dropped from the last time I tried and I kinda overpriced! It was a crowded friday and the service wasn't upto expectations.

The up stair open air was closed, i prefer this over the veranda
The Katsu Don was way too sweet. No complains about the portions. The best seller sushi (Crispy Red) was good. Chicken dumplings were average.

Update 02/02/2024
I would recommend Kai Glass if you would want a lemongrass-ginger fusion. Lime and mint ice crush if you want something to cool yourself on a warm humid day.
Great place to have a Japanese meal with a chat. Ambient environment. Customer service is great specially "David" he is very hospitable. Will recommend anyone to visit the place. 👍👍👍
I can't recommend a better Japanese restaurant in Colombo. Visited for the second time. The food was delicious and was quickly served. Dishes are authentic and the portion size is good enough. The beverages were top notch as well.

Every dish was excellent and the restaurant staff were very helpful. Special thanks to Mr. David from the staff for the amazing service which was truly beyond all our expectations.
Beautiful place that offers authentic Japanese food. The Zen special sushi platter is expensive but worth it. Best sushi I ever had as of now! The other dishes are quite good and the place has a very nice ambience. The only thing I didn't like is the pork teriyaki which was simply bacon strips dipped in sauce

Nestled in the heart of Colombo, Nihonbashi stands as a beacon of culinary excellence, offering an unforgettable journey into the world of Japanese gastronomy. My recent dining experience at this esteemed restaurant left me thoroughly impressed, and I'm eager to share the highlights of my exceptional visit.
The staff at Nihonbashi elevated the dining experience to new heights. Their knowledge of the menu, attentiveness, and genuine passion for the culinary art were evident throughout the evening. The recommendations provided by the staff added a personal touch to the dining adventure, making it a truly memorable occasion.
I was truly impressed with the exceptional service at Tsukiji uoichi . The staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. I would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. David for his outstanding service at His attentiveness and expertise added to the overall wonderful experience. We truly appreciate his efforts and look forward to our next visit. The food exceeded our expectations - every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. My first ramen experience. Food was good. Had chicken ramen and chiken sushi with pinneapple juice as beverage. Ramen was good and colorful which has fish flavour sinked in it. The ramen was more soupy type.Bit salty for me, thought it because I was most of the time more preffered for less salty foods. Sushi rolls are good too. Bit spice sauses and sweet mixed chicken sushi made my day. Friendly service and clean tables calming music with great atmosphere. I went on a solo date but with friends and family you can have a great time.

Good Japanese Restaurant in Colombo. Wonderful atmosphere and a great service.
I have tried the same restaurant in CCC before. This time they tried their Sushi selections. At Least 3/4 options they had.

The Teriyaki One and the Fried Prawn ones are Great, I did not like the one that came with the Raw fish. Sorry I don't remember their names.

I am not a Sushi person, but for people who are scared or dont like raw stuff I always recommend trying the Sushi which has fried sea food. You may really like it.

Chicken Katsudon is the thing to Go if you dont know whatvto try here.

The things are a bit expensive in this place. Obviously with less decent Japanese places in the City. Recommended if you want to try Japanese dishes.

Had an amazing dining experience at this Japanese restaurant. The food was not only delicious but also authentic, capturing the essence of Japanese cuisine perfectly. The place is compact and has spacing limited customers. But it was not uncomfortable or anything. Parking could be a hassle as they have dedicated parking only for 3-4 vehicles and everyone else has to park by the road.
Food looked nice and tasted ok for the most part. okinomoyaki was ok, but I didn't like the ramen as it didn't look or taste anything like an authentic ramen. The rice in katsudon and chicken katsu rice wasn't that sticky and it was difficult to eat with chopsticks. Everything else was good. The staff was friendly and responsive. The price wasn't bad either.

I hail from Barcelona and was drawn to this restaurant due to its rave reviews. I had assumed that, being in Asia, the sushi would surpass what we have back home. To my dismay, the meal was mediocre at best, portions were scanty, and to top it all, there was an exceedingly long wait for the dishes to arrive. What's even more astonishing is the exorbitant price tag for such lackluster quality and quantity — a whopping €75. I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. It feels like daylight robbery.

We visited early doors so the place was empty. Our waiter was attentive and very welcoming.
We ordered drinks and food, which were delivered piecemeal, that aside it was exceptionally tasty and in true Japanese spirit. Nice Japanese background music.
All in all a great experience. Expensive but nowhere near as expensive as it would be in London, which is where we are from. Thoroughly enjoyable and credit to our waiter.

The place is nice and cozy. However, they took more than 40 minutes to serve the food. The food was tasty. We asked for the seafood noodles with only prawns, and it was really packed with prawns. The staff is very friendly and the service is great. I didn't like the chicken katsu curry so much because the curry was sweet, but I believe that's how it's supposed to be... The portion sizes are pretty good. Will come back again.
I’ve been to Zen Colombo so many times and I am impressed more and more every day. The food is so good and authentically Japanese. The staff is really friendly and supportive. I’ve asked for special requirements many times when ordering and they always exceed my expectations. The ambiance is very calming and captivating as well. They have a variety of spaces available where you can dine and hangout, but my favorite places are their veranda and the rooftop. The veranda in the evening is so serene and beautiful with the rustling of the bamboo trees, and the rooftop at night is so romantic and beautiful. Everything from start to finish is exquisite and exceptional. Highly recommend.
This authentic Japanese restaurant in s definitely worth a visit. The food was very delicious and the presentation of food was was very nice. And their service was impeccable from start to finish. David and the staff were very attentive and David provided us excellent recommendations on the dishes we should try out. They brought our food within less than 10 minutes and they even gave our baby some toys to play with while we had our dinner.
You can even bring alcohol without any corkage fee and they’ll be introducing a happy hour soon. I’d definitely visit this restaurant again to try out more authentic Japanese food.
I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment and was delighted by the delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine. The menu offers a wide range of delectable Japanese dishes that truly capture the essence of the cuisine. Our dining experience was further enhanced by the exceptional service provided by David and Gayan, who displayed remarkable hospitality and attentiveness throughout our meal. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking an authentic and memorable Japanese dining experience.

I recently tried the Katsudon at Tokyo Shokudon in Colombo One Galle Face Food Studio, and it was a delightful experience. The food was incredibly tasty, and I particularly enjoyed the slight sweetness in the flavors. One thing that stood out to me was the ample parking space available since it’s a huge mall, which is always a plus. However, it's worth noting that the studio tends to be quite crowded, so it's best to plan accordingly. Overall, I highly recommend trying the Katsudon at Tokyo Shokudon for a delicious Japanese food experience.

Had lunch today and for the current prices the portion size is adequate and enough. The food is good and clean and tasty. Love the atmosphere and the staff is very polite. Will recommend to anyone wanting to try Japanese flavours and want affordable prices.
Visited with my wife for dinner. Food has nice flavours and have space for many people. Parking is bit tricky abut worth the visit.
One of the best places I visited in Colombo and the only place I could find 100% authentic Japanese cuisine in Colombo so far. Calm place with a real Japanese atmosphere. Friendly staff. Later I got to know that the owner is a Sri Lankan gentleman who got married to a Japanese lady and the owner was honoured by the Japanese ambassador for Sri Lanka. If you are used to Chinese / oily food or food with artificial colours and flavours, you will be disappointed here.

Absolutely loved the sushi. Especially the Crispy Red & Tuna salad sushi rolls - they are absolutely mouthwatering. We loved it so much, we asked for another portion.

We also enjoyed their rice options - portions are generous and taste great.

Servers were really helpful when making selections and very enthusiastic.

Can't wait to go back!
The food has good portion sizes and tastes great. It is however, the welcoming atmosphere that the staff have, right until you leave that makes it a place worth going. They make the entire experience fulfilling. Quite often than not they also throw in soup or a dessert on the house. Been here a few times. Definitely going back. Prices a slightly on the higher side.
Tried Japanese food for the first time here at Zen. Though I'm not much of a japanese food fan I should definitely recommend this place for they have a lavish collection of food items.
Apart from food, I loved the ambiance here with a calm and quiet vibe in the lunch hours. Staff was nice and super friendly. They helped us in choosing what to order according to our palate. Though I can’t exactly remember the names of food items we ordered, they were made out of fresh ingredients. Drinks were refreshing too. Prices were reasonable in comparison to other Japanese restaurants.
There is a medium sized parking space but even that was full the day we went. Also since we haven’t had a reservation they didn’t let us sit in the roof top area. If this is your first time like us you will have to ask directions to the restaurant.

Food was just awesome. My favorite is the spicy salmon maki. Everything was just delicious.

Service is not that good. It took long time for food to arrive and even after reminding again and again the server still didn’t bring us the dumplings we ordered. So we got fed up waiting and server was happy to remove that item from the bill. Also obviously bill was costly. But we felt it was worth it.

Overall if you want to try Japanese. This is the perfect place. Will definitely go again. Highlight recommend! ❤️

Out of the few japanese restaurants peppered around Colombo, Ginza stands out for its ambience , amazing presentation and taste. service is superb and the open kitchen concept is on brand. Only problem you may face is selecting what you want as the menu offers way too many delectable options. Its a good problem to have though :)

True genuinely loveable Japanese craftsmanship. Extensive menu initially a little daunting to grasp in its full span. However, as understated the location may be, as over-delivering the flavours and meticulosity of the presentation are. Such an address preceding the Ministry of Crab take-off! Service is both approachable and attentive. Mr Gayan and his team shine as hospitaliers at heart!!

Actually this is the first time i tried ramen 🍜 because of I’m die hard fan of naruto so I always wanted to try ramen. I tried their spicy flavored mizo chicken ramen it was delicious and worth for the price. They have several other ramen too like umami black chicken ramen, sea food ramen etc. foods are bit expensive but worth trying. Foods are clean, delicious and hot. If ever feel you want to try ramen around colombo tokyo shokudo is the place.

This is the very first time that I have tried Japanese food except for Sushi. I have tried a Chicken Katsudon without added spices. I must say it was worth trying it and that was delicious which makes me think to try some other Japanese food in another day.

The price was Rs. 2000 and felt like the portion was not enough for the amount.

Anyway the staff member was good and didn't take much time to serve. Looking forward to visit again.

This is a Japanese restaurant near the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo. I came here for dinner. The store seemed to consist of 1st and 2nd floors. There were not many customers because we arrived a little early, but many tables were reserved. I ordered a variety of food and ate it, but it was so delicious that I couldn't take a lot of pictures because I ate it. If you're looking for a decent Japanese meal in Colombo, this is the place to go.

Chicken katsu which was 2100. The quality was not so good and didn’t maintain the quality. They also reduced the amount of egg and the size of chicken portions. It was very small compared to the default size. I felt very bad for the money I spent for this awful dish afterwards. They don't care about customers' satisfaction.

When it comes to Japanese restaurants I have 3 favorite places and Ginza is number 2 Ranking.

Although this is one of the usual places I go to, I have not been able to visit in almost a year, I was not let down yesterday evening when I went over for dinner as the quality and taste was as expected, nothing has changed.

I would rate there service 5 out of 5
Quick, efficient, very friendly and inviting

Quality of food 5 out of 5
everything was fresh, perfect temperature, very clean, good portions, good ratio in rice and meat

Taste 5 out of 5
Taste was excellent, Authentic, flavorful from good quality soy sauce, wasabi, Pickled ginger to all the elements used in the dishes were the best

Location 4.5
Very roomy, clean, good ambiance, big enough to not get fully packed and comfortable

Pricing 4 out of 5
Bit on the high side on pricing, but it’s worth it as they say cheap things no good and good things no cheap.
It’s worth the money for the quality, taste, and the overall experience you get here.

Special note: you must get there belly pork dish as it is one of the best I have ever had.

Highly recommend this place and they do have a bigger variety than any other Japanese restaurants in Sri Lanka.
The place is easily reachable and has good parking space. The ambience is cool. They do offer private rooms for dining as well.

The food items in the menu are not the usual but authentic Japanese cuisine. The items are high priced but worth a try. The pork belly dish was soo good. The portion sizes are alright. The waiters were very helpful in navigating us through the menu and helping us choose dishes. Also the menu had a variety of dishes to choose from.

The value for money with the services offered was good!

The pinnacle of Japanese restaurants in Sri Lanka. Nihonbashi offers the best in ambience, selection and service. The food we tried was authentic and excellent. Surprisingly the sushi etc was not that much more expensive than any other Japanese restaurant. If you're interested in fine dining, there are quite a few more expensive dishes on the menu as well. Overall a wonderful experience.
