I have been a patient of Quarry Bank Surgery for 54 years when Dr Fair born me. Unfortunately I have to post this as this is the most incompetent NHS service I have EVER recieved. Dr P has always been polite, compassionate and empathetic. However the 2 new Doctors are a disgrace to the medical profession. Firstly, Dr T lied on my medical notes and when I put in a formal complaint it was removed , however many months later I've still not recieved a written response. I've chased the Practice Manager 3 times (she always seems to be unavailable) but STILL no response. DR G forgot to add his notes onto the NHS system following a consultation so when I returned for my 2 week follow up appointment (that he asked me to attend) he knew nothing about it! I've got serious health problems including cancer and he told me to exercise and get another job!!!! Something seriously needs to be done about these 2 incompetent doctors. I'm looking into changing doctors ASAP.

Well here we go reviewing my family's doctors. For years it was fantastic. And then all of a sudden it became the hardest thing to deal or cope with. No matter the problem it always seems like whatever you have isn't worth their time. I'm appalled by how they handle their patients. You call and call to be then told to use their website. You use that clunky mess and then get told they'll contact you which could take weeks.. so you could be working and they won't care they'll just give you an appointment and you'll like or lump it. I'm fed up I'm moving surgery after being a patient since I was born. 33 years down the drain. This is where my tax goes. It needs to just close in fairness it offers absolutely nothing now.

How the elderly receptionist with the grey pixie and superiority complex is employed I don't know, she's so rude to patients!! Very bad to have as first point of contact, I'd be fired if I spoke to people the way she does

Worst doctors I have ever used had my partner waiting for an hour with our daughter for her eczema which now because we have not been seen has got worse and we are going to a&e, putting more strain on the nhs because it could of been a easy prescription for a new cream but now we’ve got to drag my daughter to a&e. When my partner asked the receptionist what the hold up was she was very condescending, rude and point blank just not helpful. We have been putting up with this for along time we have now moved surgery’s because the NHS or management need to sort there staff or hire new more caring people to greet patients at the reception as I feel all the workers don’t actually want to deal with people it’s just a job to them. Overall dive of a doctors.

Big surgery, why only 1 doctor 2 nurses 1 midwife ????

Been with the surgery 40 years and never has it been this bad, reception staff very rude , can't get them on the phone most of the time, can't get any appointment to see my own doctor , always been seen by standby doctors. Rude receptionist Becky was arrogant and rude. Never will I go back to this surgery.

Just seen Dr Tapan. Worst doctor ever. I told him About the pain am having in pregnancy and he said to me that i dont care about my baby all i care is about myself. Am asking for medicine which can lead to miscarriage. Of course I care about my baby thats why i’ve come to see you because i dont want anything bad happen. I told him that i have this pain for last month and my midwife told me see a GP if it doesn’t go away and he says to me midwife tells you to see a doctor if it rains for 7 days lol what a joke. I never seen a doctor who tells their patient that this pain will go worse and not get better. He also said that hes seen a worse pregnancy and mines nothing compare to others when he doesn’t even know anything about me and my pregnancy.

I haven't gave it 1 star as I haven't seen all the doctors so I can't comment on all of them.
I have used this surgery ever since I was a child, the doctors then (dr.patel and dr. Shah) were brilliant and always were there if you need them, however that has been a long time ago and the female doctor I saw last time was awful and just rolled her eyes as if I was some kind of time waster (it was the first time I had had to go to the doctors in 7 years)
Now I had been texted for my free nhs check up so rang to book an appointment, the receptionist was polite but told me that the person in question didnt work weekends or Tuesday or thursday so the only time I could attend that didn't interfere with my own job would be in 7 months time!
It's a shame that such a once great surgery has now become this, and regrettably it's time to find a new doctors surgery where the doctors care more about the patients than their range rover.
At least the receptionist was polite.......

Receptionist lacks proper knowledge about new patients registration. Filled all forms online and didn't get any successful reg, went to the surgery several times and they kept requesting for NHS number even after explaining to them that I don't have hence, it's there duty to give the NHS No. Then there is always laisse- faire feedback of we can't do anything about it if you don't have your NHS number.
Fortunately, I'm happy I went to another GP location, filled same form online, got registered and my NHS number was delivered within few days at my door. Since then it's been smooth service with my current GP, appointment gets to you at the appropriate time. Just group of people willing to give their best to public service

I would give 0 stars if I could. The receptionist with pink hair shouted at me in front of her colleagues and other patients as I was 7 minutes late for my appointment. She even made the point of she was the one that spoke to me on the phone and booked me in so she was aware of that fact that I was struggling to walk and new to the area. Another patient came in who was 15 mins late but nothing was mentioned to him and asked him to sit down without a problem. I was in a lot of pain h on the same day. She needs to be taught on how to deal with the public, especially those in need of medical attention. I have logged a couple plaint also because of her.

Went to collect some blood test stickers and lady with glasses on reception rolled her eyes at me when I said I should have gone for blood test about 4 weeks ago but had a bad cough and cold. She is their receptionist - not my doctor. I was called twice in one day by Olivia to make two appointments I had already made. I also had a telephone appointment to speak to the Dr and missed his call. I called him straight back and asked to be put through and reception assured me would call me back. That was 4 months ago and still nothing. They have not got a clue what they are doing here and quite honestly they give the impression they couldn't care less. I am now looking for a new surgery.

Spent 40 mins on hold bearing in mind I was supposedly number 1 in the que for the whole time. Online forms have been removed and the lady that answered was extremely rude. Not impressed! Service used to be so much better than this!!

I call in the morning 8:10 for the my Daughter she has chest infection.
Staff member ask the first Details then she is told me not available Appointment is here call 111 or go Other Surgery 7 pm and she is told me Allah appointment is gone in 10 minutes she is not understanding she is rudely behave staff is no good here didn’t help

Shocking experience. Doctor was “late because of traffic “ by 40 minutes. And when finally seen the doctor was utterly useless. Wasn’t listening to any of the information provided and kept getting info wrong. Had no knowledge of how to help at all. The only outcome that came of use was an idea given by myself. As this “doctor” was unable to give any medical or helpful advice.

Triage online form works very effectively. Over the past several months, i have been given same day appointments, phone call appointments and same day responses for my baby also. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Experiences with the doctors has been positive also, i feel like they genuinely care for my family as patients.

Absolutely atrocious took my daughter today for a doctor to see her who can’t sighn a prescription off and told I would have to wait half hour for it because there wasn’t a doctor there to do phoned chemist 2 hours later to find out she hasn’t still had it sighned and sent over constantly in a queue when you ring and your sat there for 20 to 50 minutes waiting for them to answer the phone since they have gone to brierley hill they are terriable I Deffently will be changeing my doctors.

worse GP I have ever encountered, from practise manager to staff and doctor as well. Staff are impatient and not trying to help while the practise manager do not try to understand the situation and put the blame back to the patient. One of the doctor is good but there is one that is very impatient and did not try to communicate well which cause a very bad experience with my son and my wife and they cried in the surgery. Avoid at all cost!

never open on weekends which causes an issue as work and school can get in the way of visits. some doctors are nice whereas others seem like they'd much rather be somewhere else and are not welcoming at all. I once experienced a doctor who didn't tell me and my mom what he was going to be doing or ask if I was okay with it and just did it.

Waited for an hour in the queue. I was number 9. When I got to number 1 they cut me off. I WAS FUMING. Rang again immediately and funnily enough there I was at number 9 again. Finally got to speak to someone after yet another hour and now have to wait to be contacted by a doctor for a phone appointment. What an absolute SHAMBLES THIS SURGERY IS.
The Sooner I change to a decent surgery the better I think.

I feel it is very important to post a positive review based on my experience yesterday. I phoned the surgery at 14:15 and also filled out the Triage form online. At 14:45 I received a call from surgery offering me an appointment at 15:00 which I obviously took and attended. The doctor was excellent, listening to my problem and sorting a plan of action with prescription.
The whole experience was flawless and appreciated at a difficult time

I just recently joined this surgery and I found this is best GP SURGERY ever.Never had a problem with appointments. All staff are really helpful.

Absolutely shocking experience of Thorns Road Surgery. I've seen two different GPs and neither of them listened to me or seemed to have any interest in helping me with my health issue. I feel completely fobbed off and patronised. The nursing staff and receptionists are lovely but the GPs are clearly overworked and totally disinterested.

Staff very rude and unhelpful never can get an appointment last time I had to wait for 4 days and by then I had to buy stuff from chemist

Everytime I call them they say to come back the next day or they have me sitting here for hours when it's for my kids just letting the phone ring! Then there's times I'll be going in and they will say that there is nothing wrong or they can't do anything and to come back in a week if symptoms don't calm down. Absolute waste of time.

I have always had faith in this surgery but my recent experience has been very disappointing,
On arrival the staff we re laughing giggling joking about there evening ahead in childish manner whilst patients ahead of me we re waiting , there is a time and a place in staff rooms for this .
.I was seen by a friendly practitioner ,how ever the consultation did not help at all it seemed to be a on screen tick box affair ,I was spoken to by a inexperienced receptionist, referred to as “she “ by the other member of staff who had “ other things to do first “ before helping her colleague with printing a form which she couldn’t do ( why I do not know surely click of a button??!)
I was made to feel a pest ,I do not expect to be treated special in any way just common manners .
I left without having form and I will not bother the surgery again unless my life depends on it
So sad that NHS has come to this .

1 Star is being very generous as this practice is a absolute disgrace. Starting with the incompetent reception staff who in the short time I've been with them have managed to get something wrong every time either me or my partner have been unfortunate enough to interact with them. My only interactions with a doctor was for my first prescription of my repeat medicines which I was told over the phone that I had gotten completely wrong (even though I have been on them for many years) then spoken down to and made to feel like I was inconveniencing her. The second time was for an adoption medical where she complained for nearly 20 minutes that she was overworked and under pressure and it was these non important things that were the cause. Now changed surgery and I recommend anyone else to do the same.

Would absolutely NOT recommend - string of issues with both admin staff and doctor led to changing surgery. Very poor communication, attitude and response times. (Only saving grace is the nurse)

This doctors surgery is awful. Apart from Dr P (who you have to book a month in advance to see) everything else is awful. The receptionists are rude and think they know it all. Rang today at 9.30 for an appointment for my son for them to say very rude ‘if you would of rang at 8 you’d have got an appointment’ not everyone is free at 8am to ring up! They always take over a week to approve my partners insulin so he constantly has to go to the pharmacy for emergency prescription who when we tell which doctors surgery we are with say they are not surprised. They need another doctor then and also to hire receptionists with manners who actually know what they are doing.

Rude and unprofessional Practic Manager Kelly Jewkes.
We was later for 15 minutes because of traffic after school, to see the Asthma check nurse and the manager no trying to help. My daughter hardly to breathabd she said make another appointment, but this appointment we are waiting 3 weeks.
Not happy with the service.

When Dr Penumaka started at the surgery it was a breath of fresh air, she is a Dr that truly cares about her patients and listens.
However, since Covid it has become impossible for me to get a face to face appointment with an actual Dr. Even more difficult to see the Dr I actually trust, Dr P.
I appreciate that they have a Higher Level Nurse who can prescribe etc. But that is not the same as seeing the Dr. When I asked about having an appointment with Dr Penumaka I was told no appointments were available for over a month and new dates after that have not been added yet, with no idea when they would be.
When I did speak over the phone with a Dr, recently, it was a student Dr, which lead to several calls throughout the day while I was at work (as a teacher) and I learned absolutely nothing from these interactions, other than she needed to ask me the same questions over and over and could not answer any of my medical questions. (Literally calls started at 8.50am and last call was about 3.10pm). She kept having to go back to Dr Penumaka, surely it would have been easier for Dr Penumaka to speak to me in the end.
When I called to get a routine B12 Injection I was told I would have to wait over 2 weeks, for a 5 min injection, by that time my symptoms would be unbearable, as I can't absorb B12 naturally and need the regular injection.
When I asked the receptionist what alternatives there are, she said none. I found the receptionist that I spoke to dismissive and rude, with no sympathy for the situation.
Whe I was diagnosed with a new condition in April, the only information I got was a text saying a prescription has been sent to the Chemist you have Hypothyroidism. When I went into the surgery to see about getting an appointment to discuss this new diagnosis the receptionist told me no need, just come back in 2 months to get a new blood test form. No concern or help on what this condition now meant for me. I have had to rely in the Internet, books and support groups.
I am very disappointed that such a great Dr is operating within a surgery that can not provide the help needed for many patients, previously I have always recommended them, but now I would be reluctant to do so. I still think Dr Penumaka is the best Dr around which is the only reason I have stayed, I am questioning this decision as I never speak or see a Dr anymore.
They are currently stating they are taking on new patients, but they can't accommodate their existing patients.

In these trying times it's nice to get telephone appointments quickly. Receptionists are always friendly and help you feel at ease. Not a bad surgery at all.

Absolutely brilliant service today from thorns road surgery. Came in to the pharmacy this morning to see all our nhs smart cards were blocked, which meant we weren't able to downloads patient prescriptions. Having rang numerous surgeries and trying our luck with our other pharmacy branches, a lovely lady (Wendy) at thorns road surgery went out her way to facilitate the unblocking of our smart cards at their premises with the help of the practice manager. They have taken us out of a potentially deep hole this morning and we have nothing but appreciation & admiration for their help and courtesy.
Great reception staff and management!!!!
Great reception staff and management!!!!

Phoned my own doctors and because it was so late they booked me an appointment for here at 9:15pm. We'll, I got seen almost straight away but the doctor was very rude. My son has been throwing up feeds since he was born. Initially we assumed it was because of the tongue tie. He is 4 months and still continues to vomit during and after every feed. I thought maybe he had a cows milk Allergy. The doctor said I'm feeding him too much. He is on 7onz every 3-6 hours. The health visitor told me, if he's hungry, up the onzes not put him on hungry baby.
Well, the end result was the doctor rolling his eyes at everything I said making me feel like I've not had kids before (he is my 3rd) and made me feel really small and insignificant.
The doctor has put him on baby gaviscon...... let's see if it helps.

I have recently joined this surgery. I have found the staff to be so helpful. Sorted my meds very quickly. I changed from a doctors that was totally rubbish. The ladies here are so lovely. If I could give more than 5 I would. Keep up the fantastic work. But remember you will never please everyone. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Every 12 months I have a repeat prescription and every 12 months there's an issue. Now I'm being told completely conflicting information between the nurse and the pharmacist next door and it's still no clearer over what to do for my next prescription in 12 months time. I dread it coming up to be honest.

Dr penumaka is amazing in every way love her soo much but the surgery service is absolutely terrible. They rarely answer your call and then make you wait on hold when they do. They are very careless. I have been waiting 2 weeks to get a normal repeat prescription and they have still not activated the online registration ID request. Phones always engaged it’s horrible. Unfortunately I’m going to have to move surgery’s as this is dangerous.

Very poor service received today. I called last week to order a repeat prescription. The Receptionist advised it had been ordered and sent to the Pharmacy and would take 48 hours to be available at the Pharmacy. The Receptionist was very abrupt with me and cut me off in the middle of asking a question. However, I presumed the order had been processed correctly and waited a few days. I called the Boots Pharmacy attached to Withymoor/Squires Court Surgery today to enquire whether my prescription was ready to collect. The Pharmacy advised they had not received a prescription for me and advised to ring the Surgery to check. After waiting over 20 minutes to get through, I explained the issue and was told that my prescription had been sent to my previous Pharmacy where I used to live (in a town over 60 miles away). That was it, no apology for their mistake or even an offer to resend my prescription to the correct Pharmacy. The Receptionist advised to ring Withymoor Surgery back and dial option 4 instead meaning I would have to wait in another long queue to re-order my prescription. No offer to pass my call through to the correct team even though this was not my mistake. I found this service very poor and as a working parent I do not have time to make endless phone calls, going round in circles, chasing people up and correcting other people’s mistakes. I would give 0 Stars if possible.

Had a very poorly 2 year old son high temp shaking, being sick, rang for appointment was told they didn't have any. Got told to ring 111 rang 111 got told with his symptoms he needs to be seen within 2 hours and to call doctors for emergency appointment. I rang again, got told doctor would call me at 4, I originally rang them in around 10am ish so it was already too long to wait. Doctor rang me at 6.15 pm to say the receptionist never told him about the appointment, he told me to take my son to Russells Hall hospital A&E we get there the cue time is 6 hours. My son is getting worse, we spend 2 hours waiting until he is seen. He had a temperature over 40 and was very ill, turns out he had tonsillitis that could have been delt with by a doctor. So from calling for a appointment around 10am my son didn't get medical treatment until 9pm. If he had sepsis or meningitis he wouldn't be here now this needs to change before someone dies.

I rang today at 8am and was 20th in the queue but I only waited about 5 minutes before I was triaged and arranged a time for a GP telephone consultation.
I was contacted at the agreed time and was dealt with professionally.
Well done AW.

Absolutely disgusting service offered to my wife. Getting an appointment is almost impossible, having to wait in a queue of 50 people on the phone at 8am, then a group of GP's who are reluctant to issue referal letters to private patients which is at no cost to the NHS, simply telling people to come back in two weeks when they could have sorted their own private hospital appointment during that time. Treatment is more about patient choice in the modern era, this practice seems stuck in the last century. Avoid if possible.

Registered at this surgery because it's 2 minutes walk away from home. Struggle to get appointments that are convenient for a working person (who pays for prescriptions!) Phone calls for appointments are a waste of time as queuing is ridiculous. By the time you get through there's no appointments left! Started to go & queue up at gates at 7.45am! Last week I queued up for 25 minutes, 8th person in the queue only to be told that there were no morning appointments left! I had work in the afternoon. Today I was 3rd in the queue. Got there, no morning appointments left. Asked for the latest appointment possible. She said 3pm because they were closing early today! I have things to do this afternoon! So yet again, no doctor available for me! There's always an appointment available at Albion House, but I registered here because it's close to home. I didn't register at Albion House!
