This is one of the most accesible and curious museums I have ever experienced! It has an amazing collection worthy of any large European collection. Entry is free to all!

Excellent art museum located in the heart of Polanco. The entire collection is free to view, so it’s a perfect stop for any tourist or denizen of CDMX. There’s five floors of art, complete with works by Matisse, Chagall, Rodin, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Rivera (to name but a few). The museum is similar to the Guggenheim, as visitors can walk upstairs in a giant spiral, visiting each floor as they go. You’ll want more than an hour to make sure you see everything!

This place is under construction, but do not let that fool you. This place is incredible! You can walk in circles and see new things that you missed. I cannot wait until this place is fully opened.
We purchased our tickets from the Cárcamo de Dolores. And they told us that we could go into the Natural History Museum with our purchased tickets. Check out Diego Rivera mural. It is fascinating.

Ampliamente recomendado!

Their collection is as impressive as the building! Lots of classic art and historic objects. Apparently it's one of the best private collections and that's obvious given the breadth, diversity and notoriety of many artists featured in it.
For non-Spanish speakers be aware didactics and information is not also displayed in English so have the Google Translate app ready.
Also, you will have to cloak larger bags.

Must see museum on the eastern edge of Bosque de Chapultepec. I went on Sunday when entry is free. It was not at all crowded upon opening or during the 90 minutes of my stay there.
Lots to see and enjoy and contemplate. I was surprised to be as captivated as I was with the volcanos exhibit. Volcanoes, both active and dormant, play a significant role in the Mexican psyche. The idea that nature can be both destructive and nurturing as well as unpredictable. Seismic activity accounts for much devastation in the distant past as well as in more recent history. During my stay the city conducted a seismic alert/readiness test as they do annually to keep the public aware of the threat and how to stay safe when the next one strikes.
In addition to the many striking exhibits the building itself is also beautiful and adds to the aesthetic appeal of the entire experience.

Great tourist attraction in the main park. Lovely views of the city in all directions. Interesting exhibits too. Tourists are charged to enter on Sundays.

I’m not gonna put all the pictures from my trip here, but if you’re in Mexico City, you need to go to this museum, it is free, it is amazing, and you can experience art and statues and artifacts that I do not know how it was even possible to keep in the conditions that they were found in. It all looks immaculate and priceless and they let you get up very close to everything.
Loved all the floors and exhibits and the history. Do it! If you’re reading this in English, you’re likely here on vacation anyway.

A beautiful castle that houses now the National Museum of History, situated at 2300 meters above sea level on top of a hill in Chapultepek Park. It is 15 minutes walk uphill to get there. And the view of downtown Mexico City and the entire surrounding area is spectacular.
The site of the castle is inhabited since the days of the Aztec Empire and it was an important landmark to them. In 19th century the castle was the official residence of Mexican presidents.

The collection is rich and interesting but user experience and customer service of the museum are lacking.
-1 star for monolingual captions. In a place so tourist-centric surely all descriptions could be bilingual? At the moment only the introductory boards are. I’m writing this as a person for whom English is NOT a native language.
-1 star for digital equipment - when I visited nothing was working. It’s not a major flaw because there was still plenty to see, however for an institution like this it shows bad planning.
Overall: definitely worth visiting despite the inaccessible exhibition design.

If you have even a minor interest in history, this museum is astonishingly packed full of artifacts. Those with greater interest should break their visit into 2 days. There’s simply too much to see for one visit.
You can pay ahead online or by credit card / cash once you enter the museum

The most interesting aspect of this museum is perhaps it’s exterior design.
While also the interior design is interesting, it’s execution is below par. Lots of executional defects when it comes to construction.
The exhibition itself is so, so. Feels like lots of random stuff randomly arranged.

This was a great experience from beginning to end. I recommend buying tickets in advance as there is always a line and be ready to walk a lot but it is completely worth it. Take your time to read and learn the history and visit the gift shop!

A Must see Museum!! The architecture and art are mind blowing! Be sure to take your time and have some patience as this place can get crowded quick!
This place should be placed on your top 3 things to do/see while in Mexico City!

Super cool place that is very worth the visit!
The ticket is 90 Pesos ~ 6$ for an adult.
There are many interesting exhibitions, that can overwhelm even the toughest museum goers.
Kids will have fun there, but have in mind that it's a long long walk there.

Excellent museum with thoughtful, creatively curated exhibitions. Also, there's a nice coffee cart in a beautiful courtyard. Went early on a Sunday; admission was free, and the museum wasn't crowded.

This museum has free entry to the public. The architecture of the building itself is a must see. The white interior adds so much character. The walls and ceiling are white from floor to floor. As we came in, we were directed to a section where we were to check in our bags and water bottles. This first floor is a large open space area with a few large exhibits that caught the attention of the visitors. There is also a souvenir shop in this same floor. We walked up from floor to floor through a spiraled walkway ramp situated around the perimeter of the structure. In the center, at each floor, we found so many collections ranging from coins to artwork to sculptures.

Amazing! This museum has so many displays. We were here for three hours and did not get to see the entire museum. It is so large, beautiful and clean with much history.
There is no need to pre purchase your tickets or to even have to hire a tour guide to take you here. It sits on the Chapultepec park. We took an Uber there and it dropped us off right next to the entrance. We just went up a short flight of stairs after turning the corner. We purchased the tickets upon arrival. We had to check in our umbrella bags and water bottles. Then we proceeded to explore the museum.

A beautiful estate nestled over 2000 meters above sea level. It offers a breathtaking 360 views of Mexico City and the surrounding Chapultepec park. This is a definite must see not only for the views of Mexico City but to also appreciate the architecture and beautiful grounds of the Castle. From the garden on the first floor by the entrance to the second floor garden, the vibrant stained glass windows, the beautiful paintings, and learning about the history of Mexico City, this place has it all! It is a bit of a hike from the ticket office to the castle so make sure to wear comfortable shoes, breathable clothes and pack some cold water!

So much to learn!
They have amazing pieces and so much to see that it really deserves two visits.
Cannot miss the Teotihuacán exhibit, which will show you in color some of the details you would most likely miss when you visit the actual pyramids.
The room where the Aztec calendar is displayed is truly impressive.
Looking forward to coming back and learning more.

Beautiful museum space with excellent quality art. I especially enjoyed the sculpture garden.

Wow, such an amazing sight. Glad we did not leave cdmx without visiting this castle at the request of a local. Amazingly beautiful inside and out. The rooms were split into different eras. It really is an extraordinary place to visit. Surprisingly kid friendly as long as your children listen and understand no touching. Both my children enjoyed peeking into the rooms at the top floor.
Absolutely do not miss visiting Chapultepec Castle.
Be aware you cannot bring any food or drinks inside the castle. Many vendors are right outside and we made the mistake of buying a huge water just to waste half of it right before walking in.

We had a wonderful time discussing art with our six year old! I appreciate the thoughtfulness that clearly goes into each exhibit, and the size of the museum is perfect, big enough to experience lots of amazing art but not so big that you get lost or overwhelmed. Can’t wait to come back.

A very nice museum but, unfortunately with many spaces closed. 34 pesos entramce worth the visit. The first phase of the museum is very interesting with all the phases of species history on earth.

Chapultepec Castle is an extraordinary blend of history, culture, and breathtaking views, making it a must-visit destination in Mexico City. The castle beautifully captures pivotal moments in Mexico’s past, offering visitors a unique chance to step back in time.
Each room in the castle is a testament to a different era, and the stunning murals provide a vivid, visual narrative of the country’s rich history. The castle grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained, adding to the overall grandeur and beauty of the place.
The panoramic views of Mexico City from the castle are nothing short of spectacular, giving visitors a unique perspective of the sprawling cityscape.
The staff at the castle are both friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall experience with their insight and expertise. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply someone looking for a memorable experience, Chapultepec Castle is a must-visit when in Mexico City.

This museum is absolutely gorgeous. It has a really good collection of prehispanic artifacts and shows the cultural richness of Mexico. Even if museums is not your thing, I’d still recommend going to this one. It has inside and outside exhibits. It would take you at least half a day to go through it. If you’re a nerdy type and like reading everything - then add a few hours more. A few tips: they have a nice gift shop, not very expensive with nice souvenirs. If you going to eat there, I’d opt for a cafeteria. Restaurant is expensive for Mexican measures and not good. The waiter that served us was pushy and borderline rude. The food is mediocre. So get a sandwich in the cafeteria, check out the museum and then eat something decent outside.

It’s a nice museum and also it was free! Though they don’t have a parking and you would need to walk even after Uber, so be careful we crossing a road

Great views, may be a guided tour works best to have a route inside the place as it is big and there is a lost of information and history that might be better digested if someone is explaining it in a certain order. I went on a regular Saturday and there were 2 people in line before me. Try to be early around 9 or 10 am it got crowded afterwards.
There castle is between 2 to 3 hours + depending on your own approach.
Remember there is a Zoo and the forest to walk through if you like.

Excellent museum with astonishing art Installations dating hundreds of years inspired by the region and beyond.
Very will organized with unique layout flow..the museum is next door to a large shopping mall with tons of food options.
Entry to the museum is free on the day I visited.

Great museum, architecture, and views of the city above a literal forest. I came on a Saturday and while there were many people, it didn’t feel way too crowded. Loved taking pictures and learning about the history of the site and of the city.
NOTE: Sundays are free entrance for Mexican nationals, so I’d suggest visiting on a Saturday or during the week, to avoid massive crowds.

Excellent museum. Extremely educational and informative. Ran by professionals, where eras of Mexican history are nearly organised in different exhibitions. Even the restaurant and adjoining coffee shop are great quality. The only criticism of the coffee shop would be that it needs a selection of crisps and dry snacks such as popcorn or crisps. The museum gift shop is absolutely rammed with top quality Mexican production items. Seeing is believing (check my video)!

Amazing exhibits and view of the park. I would suggest getting there early to beat the crowds. We were there right when they open at 9 AM on a Saturday and there wasn’t too many people there yet. It’s quite a steep walk to the top so dress comfortably and wear walking shoes.

I loved this museum. Very clean, spacious, and educational. You can spend the entire day there appreciating all the displays. Most of the information plaques are only in Spanish which was a disappointment for me since I couldn't learn about those particular pieces. I recommend adding English plaques as well or a digital recorded guide system. Regardless I'm sure I'll return if I'm back in the area.

What a remarkable museum. Showcasing the basilica sciences of natural history in a colorful and vibrant setting. The information presented was educational without being too technical and boring. The day I went it wasn’t too crowded. There were some groups of students there on a school trip and they also seemed to be enjoying the exhibits.
The property outside was wonderful as well. There were beautiful trees and flora surrounding the grounds and an endless array of birds singing and beautiful butterflies searching for nectar.
The museum only had one pavilion open as they are renovating additional buildings. The construction was done in such a way as to not interfere with the experience of a visit.
I would highly recommend a visit to this museum which is located in the expansive and beautiful Chapultepec Park. The park itself is worth a visit as well as the zoo and other museums located there.

A beautiful castle in the heart of Mexico City. Be prepared to walk a lot! Buy your ticket at the building at the very bottom of the hill (before security). Tickets currently cost 90 pesos a person, which is a great deal.
The walk up the hill to the castle is quite the trek and not for the out of shape. Once you get to the top, there’s a number of spots where you can check out the views of the city and parks below.
Beautiful rooms to peek into, and some signs are also in English which was great.
There are some elevators in the castle so people who can’t do the stairs can see the second floor.
Worth a visit! Expect to spend around a hour here. Great spot for solo travelers!

Excellent place. Very interesting and educational exposition. Highly recommended for visiting with children.

Full of modern art treasures with paintings from Orozco, Siqueiros and Frieda Kahlo. They have and entire section dedicated to Diego Rivera that features some of his portraits and his work from his visit to the Soviet Union. Another domed area has a large mural by Ruffino Tamayo. Upstairs was a section dedicated to Remedios Varo, but I don't know if it is permanent. There is a large sculpture garden outside.

Fantastic museum for modern art. Beautiful collections of photographs, paintings, and sculptures. Admission is free on Sundays, but that also means there will be more people. Plan to spend an hour to an hour and a half here. Many signs are in English as well if you are visiting and don’t read Spanish.

It took me a while to figure out how to get access to this place - it's completely surrounded by 3 busy roads. The deconsecrated church looks very out of place on an island among the traffic. But if you are interested in every aspect of map making (especially in Mexico), you will enjoy looking at not just old maps but the technique, equipment, and other things related to producing a map. If my Spanish was better I would have spent a long time there. But this is a niche interest - otherwise you will be disappointed by two dozen glass vitrines and an empty church. Also I think you might have to walk a bit to get there even with a taxi/Uber.

Amazing collection of art. And the exhibition of Emma Hurtado and Diego Rivera is a great look into their lives. And to see so many paintings by Diego. Incredible.
The Museum has a nice architecture. And Sunday’s free entry.
Also the exhibition of Remedios Barios. One of the key female Mexican surrealists. Two thumbs up.

Nice and informative. Interesting for children and the adults accompanying them. We had a few short lectures in Spanish, explaining different subjects to the children, and they were fascinating. I thought all the exhibitions were open, after reading there were renovations about a year ago, but they are still renovating. All in all, a nice experience.

I would suggest starting with mapping out the park behind it. That way on your visit you can look around there too. On Wednesday they set up booths. The exhibits were very nicely curated. Diego had quite a few pieces I never seen or knew about. It was very nice to see. Would highly recommend if you’re into the arts.

Such a great museum. The upgrades are noticeable, and I would dare say they could compete with many US museums. Much if the grounds, including several exhibits, are being upgraded and are therefore closed, but what is open is amazing. Highly recommend it for kids, and adults will definitely be entertained.

My name is Rolando Guzmán, I'm Historian, Certified Tourist Guide and almost lawyer in the National Museum of History, I'm the tour guide in English or Spanish since to the beginning of the Mexican history until today. My Whastapp number +529991836069 ☺️👍🏻

No doubt, this place would be a mandatory visit. It has a lot of history and interesting things

Super 👌

Beautiful place was refreshing to find

So helpful and interesting! Mexico has been a leader!

From the former convent of San Diego built in XVII century now remains only the church and some yards which survived the city advance and stays in an odd hard to reach place between freeways and modern bridges, but is well conserved and has a lot of historic maps and documents about ancient and modern Mexico and the description of how are those maps made before and nowadays. You must visit it, free entrance and an Oasis of peace in the middle of the frantic city life.

This museum does not look like much on the outside but the displays inside were very impressive and even things like the lighting, sound and design of layout was very first-rate. Cost was very low, only 28 pesos for adults and 13 pesos for kids, so very affordable and enjoyable. I also noted that the display information in the "evolucion Humana" room was up-to-date with the most current science and literature on human evolution which was great to see.

Small but concise.

There are no written explanations of the expositions. There’s also no guide to explain what you are seeing.

After its renovation, the order of the exhibitions improved. The museum looks really tidy and well-preserved. It will take about 2 hours to look all the museum, several activities are offered during the week, so its a good idea to visit the museum official page prior your visit. There are several parking lots around the museum.

Too bad services. Older Adults have necessities (restrooms) and there is no public services. Very raw basic necessities. Are they the same “quality” in México museums? 😩

The originals are impressive and so is some of the equipment they've used in the past.

Nice place for visiting
