Really disappointing meal - chicken wings tasty but pretty cold then a long wait for mains with no communication (table next to us were also waiting and chasing up). Steaks were both underdone compared to how we’d asked them to be cooked and the mac and cheese was probably one of the worst I’ve had (bland and watery). Chips nice and tomato salad fine but nduja potatoes slightly underdone and no detectable nduja.
Not much more I can add to the numerous positive reviews. Classic, no frills breakfast and brunch spot that serves up some quality food. Not the cheapest nor tastiest Scottish breakfast in town but it hit the spot. Well made espresso drinks, as well. Everything is fresh and made to order. A must-visit!
Absolutely phenomenal!! The food was perfect- the menu was varied and creative, filled with classic comfort food done well and with personal touches added to each dish. The elements that set the food apart from the crowd did not detract from what you expect in comfort food at all, it was unpretentious but high quality and clearly thought through carefully. You can’t go wrong with any menu item. it’s clearly made in an environment where the employees care about the food leaving the window hot and good. We were a large party, and from glimpses into the kitchen it was clear the chef knew the menu well and was able to have everything finish at the same time. The service was amazing- we felt personally cared for and one waiter took the time to recommend a specific destination for us as visitors. The employees were comfortable with each other and everything ran smoothly in the middle of the lunch rush. The pricing is reasonable which is surprising given the location and quality of ingredients.
From the outside is just like any other restaurant with any other menu, but dare to enter.

We tucked into
🐟Smoked Mackerel Pate with rhubarb and ginger chutney and crisp breads. Very tasty.
🧀Roast Butternut Squash and Mozzarella Arancini. Decent starter.
🥩 Thin cut 28 day aged rump steak frites with Diane sauce. Steak was seared and well seasoned. Sauce a little on the thin side but tasty too.
🦪 Thai Green Curry Steamed Shetland Mussels with flat bread and fries. Quite a spice hit with a mixture of textures from the Mussels. Good dunking sauce for the fries and flat bread.
Not included in the offer but worth the additional cost is
🧀 the Mac n Cheese. Although not gooey with cheese strings, it's very rich n creamy
🧅onion rings. Crunchy and crispy in all the right places

It is a nice restaurant. We had one breakfast (mum breakfast) and one lunch (stew & ale pie) the food was tasty and also the Mums beer was good. The people serving are really nice.

Ordered our food and waited almost an hour to be served anything at all. To be fair, the staff did apologise - apparently our server should have told us that the chicken would take 40 mins + to be cooked, but she had not. Therefore we were sitting wondering why things were taking so long. The steak was reasonably good but not exceptional. The mash with gravy was really poor - unappetising and flavourless. Cocktails and wine were nicely served. I probably wouldn’t return as the service (and communication) was objectively poor. Food was ok, but there are definitely far better steakhouses in the city. Finally, when I booked the table I made a note that we were celebrating a special birthday but there was no reference to this at all (no candle in a dessert, or even a ‘happy birthday’ from staff). What actually happened is that we were given a pretty bad table in the very corner of the downstairs basement.

There was barely room for 6 people and nowhere to put coats which ended up on laps. Lots of people in the area are older and will struggle with the high seats. My parents are in their 70s. People were quite uncomfortable.
2. One of the waitresses was quite unfriendly. When food was delivered they didn’t ask if we needed anything else such as condiments. She virtually ran away before I had to ask her to come back. I put that it was for a birthday on the booking, it wasn’t mentioned. There was basically no friendly chat.
3. The food took around an hour to come out. It wasn’t busy.
4. The food was solid with some misses. Steak was good and onion rings were excellent(except for the two pieces of onion that had skin on them). Burgers were overdone. Bernaise sauce was very obviously split and tasteless. Portions were a good size. Sunday roast advertised with roasted carrots came with broccoli but otherwise was good. I’d recommend asking them to substitute the string fries which are very very thin.
5. Overpriced for what it is. Miller and Carter is cheaper and better or pay a bit more for vastly superior food and ambience at Hawksmoor.

Had a lovely Valentines meal at Montpeliers last night! The food was absolutely delicious, we had the pork belly and the duck ragú and were so impressed. Also had amazing service from Peggy-Nan who was so lovely and helpful the whole night!
Very kind staff. We were with a large group and they were understaffed. The lady who served us apologized several times because it took a long time, even when we said that we had no problem with it. The wait was well worth it, the food was fantastic!
It was absolutely superb! I ordered the special and hubby ordered the sourdough steak, which is a steak sandwich. I have to say, the steak in both was fantastic. We are quite snobby with steak coming from Australia, but I have to say that the steak here is top-notch! And the gravy sauce is WOW! Pity we didn't have a few people with us as their menu also caters to sharing portions.
If you love a great steak them this is the place! Loved it, and we would certainly go again. As far as the straw chips that accompanied our meal, we would choose something else. Nevertheless, they were tasty.
Finished off with the apple pudding desert, and that was excellent! Apple cider was fabulous!

Really enjoyed the food! I could eat the avocado toast every day. Loved that it was nutritious and at a good price as well. Only downside was that the restaurant was quite cold; my wife ordered what turned out to be a colder meal, and she was uncomfortable by the end. Would have been nice with some heat on.
We were stumbled upon this gem when we were traveling in Scotland. And everyone, it was a delightful find.

Beautiful place, good food at good price. We ordered the Mac and Cheese and the Steak and Ale Stew. Both of them absolutely delicious.
The dessert was incredible, a very very tasty Pudding. The attention of the waitress was also very kind.

Been in Edinburgh for three days and been here three times. The staff are very welcoming and literally can't do enough for you. The coffee is the best around and the breakfast is absolutely delicious.
It was the perfect place to have breakfast before going to the Christmas market.

We happened by this little spot without actually knowing what it was. We immediately walked in once we saw the amazing reviews. The halloumi is so good! The waffles so filling! The sunrise plate was incredible! The matcha… so so so good. And I’m a matcha lover so I’m picky!

A Gem..Loved it, freshly cooked food, freshly brewed coffee what more could you want. It was perfect for me. Small but a very calm surrounds and the blues playing in background. Perfect start to the day. We had the waffles and I looked around lots opting for the eggs, but all the plates were clean going back to kitchen. There was.no fuss or flapping. Owner was so friendly and helpful. Definitely not to be missed.
A great breakfast/coffee shop in Edinburgh. I was staying close by for work and wanted somewhere I could easily find. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were really friendly. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

I had a chicken salad and a an avo toast, both tasted great! The starlight spritz and the mango sour spicy were also amazing.

The food and drinks were delicious and the staff was really friendly. I went there on a Tuesday morning so its was still quite slow and I had no problem being seated right away and I also did get the my food really fast.
Unfortunately, they did not have bananas for the pancakes that I originally ordered but they were really sorry about it and gave me some other options. The cook also added some extras to mine as an apology.

we went here for a late brunch. the service was very kind, we got our food fast and it was delicious. a bit pricy i’d say, but for a place in Edinburgh totally normal. i really recommend coming here for a meal!
A really lovely venue to go to eat. The atmosphere is lovely and friendly with the staff making you feel at home. The selection of food is as shown on the website, with not as much selection for vegetarians as you would like. With a small selection of specials available. Drinks are as you would normally find in a restaurant.
Excellent breakfast. The Pantry Dry was a huge amount of food and all was delicious. The bacon was especially good -- not sure how they prepared it but it was so addictive!
Although the staff was friendly, the service was incredibly slow. We had a reservation and still had to wait for more than 10 minutes to get seated, and then waited around 50 minutes to get our food. The food was tasty, but the poached egg was completely overcooked.
The urban angel cafe serves humble classic dishes in an innovative modern style. The presentation is simply beautiful. I loved their breakfast bowls.
It’s dog friendly, with lots of pups around and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s everything you want in a cafe. The service is excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely be back for more.

Beautiful restaurant with high rise ceilings. Food was great. The waiter was very friendly and knew the menu, she could recommend really good wine. Unfortunately the table seating is those UShaped seats, very inconvenient when you sitting in the middle. Everyone must stand when you need to use the toilets. And no place to hang out coats and bags. Other than that the place was good and great atmosphere. Also a bit pricy, but worth it
I stayed in Edinburgh for a week and couldn't find a brunch spot to beat Urban Angel. Went here twice and both times there was absolutely sensational food and drink with a cosy vibe. The french toast and fresh juices are especially incredible 😍

Popped in for coffee and some brekkie after a 5 hour trip......more than glad I did! I ordered the 'Avocado Smash' toast with extra bacon and it was ultra yummy. Chilli and lime dressing just added a gorgeous kick and the poached eggs were immense! Highly recommended!! ❤️

Delicious breakfast food and coffee! There was a queue forming when we got here just before opening time at 8am, and it’s no wonder. We ordered the Full Scottish Breakfast and the Waffle, as well as a long black and a cappucino. Food and coffee were both excellent. Service was great too!

The taste if the food and the presentation was perfect! Not the best coffee but still:) the staff was working really hard especially the barista..i could see him running around doin the coffees plus serving cleaning tables! He was doing pretty good job! I tried haggis for the first time in Larder Nd loved it.thank u

Cute little place off the main strip. Nice variety and large portions. Lacked silverware at the table, but easily remedied. Tried two different kinds of French toast. Lite on the toast, heavy on the Toppings.

OK so give me a break on the atmosphere. We were the first table in on a Sunday afternoon. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and I am betting it is a fun bustling place on a Friday evening.

the best breakfast spot and food that I had in Edinburgh. You have to go there before 10 in the morning or else you’ll find yourselves lining up outside. High recommend
Loved the turmeric latte and eggs florentine, their veggie options are great. Definitely arrive either right when they open on a weekday or make a reservation, this small cozy place gets busy fast and it's worth it!
I need to say this restaurant is very beautiful and comfortable. We got the menu with two dishes and it's not really expensive.

My family and I ate here after arriving in Edinburgh.
It was quite nice, I had the sunday roast. It was a 35-day dry aged steak and other stuff on the side for 21£. The steak was pretty good for only 21 pounds, although I would have loved to have more potatoes and less of the green stuff.
My family also thought the food was good.
The homemade Lemonade was great as well.

First time we have been to this ivy in Edinburgh but just as good as all the other ones we have been to. As always food was excellent and staff really helpful and nothing too much trouble. Would highly recommend a visit if in Edinburgh
My family’s 1st time in Edinburgh and I decided to try the Scottish beef. We had a 1kg tomahawk, 2 fillet, oysters, some sides like in the picture for 3 aldults and 2 ten-year-old kids.
- Staff was really nice and she explained well about the Scottish dried beef used as we were there for the 1st time.
- About the steak: i chose medium well as we had kids and we waited for 45’ which the staff already told us about that. She also suggested us the 1kg tomahawk was enough for just 2-3 people but I didn’t believe at first as we had kids and asian stomach 🤣 I soon regretted that I should double the meat bcoz it was too good, soft and juicy, we could eat much more but couldn’t wait for more 45’.
- Sides: Portion is big compared to the price. I love rocket salad and potato was yummy.
- Staff was really nice and she explained well about the Scottish dried beef used as we were there for the 1st time.

Nestled on a charming side street off Princess Street, Papii boasts a cozy atmosphere that greets you with the fragrant symphony of coffee and the joyful chorus of breakfast feasting.
Our mocha and iced mocha adventure turned out to be more coffee than cocoa, but we trudged ahead, encouraged by the heft of the servings that could double as dumbbells.
With grand aspirations, we summoned the eggs royale and eggs Benedict with bacon onto our culinary stage. Alas, the hollandaise seemed to have missed its seasoning seminar, leaving us in saucy sadness. The visual allure of the dishes cruelly betrayed our taste buds. Oh, the menu prices, a secret recipe for soaring expectations dashed.

This is the place to brunch! This is not boujee brunch, but a lovely place to congregate with friends or family for a laid back Saturday morning.
Atmosphere: Loved the hippie dippy vibe. Again very casual and laid back. It's the place I'd want to go if it was a rainy, chilly Saturday morning.
Food: Nothing about this food is fancy by any means, but this is a great place for porridge, hummus toast, or eggs. Again, very cozy and chill. The porridge with the crumble on top is the best way to go in my opinion. It was so good that 2 other people dining with me ordered it as well. We also did an order of the hummus toast with za'atar, pickled shallots, chickpeas, and parsley. It was the most basic food, but so comforting and each bite was delicious.
Reservations: Make one! If you don't you will be so upset that the wait is longggg.

Went to mums for a pre show meal and have to say I was impressed. Like the name of the restaurant suggests this was just very nice filling food. I had the chicken leak and bacon pie and I can't really fault it. The chips were home made too which is always welcome. The price is reasonable especially for the location. The table we were at was a bit cramped next to another one but apart from that all good. I would recommend this place if you are in a hurry or just extremely hungry.
Overall, it was a great food experience. The stuff was very friendly. And the food very good, the steak we had was medium rare and was perfectly cooked. I give 4 star as an overall because i find it a bit expensive. 150 pounds for 2 people.

Simple and relax atmosphere. Food is good standard. Bake beans are homemade (and most of the other thing I guess as they have and underground kitchen). Sausage are tasty. The creamy mustard sauce on my wife eggs was delicious.

On 3rd August 2023, I visited there to have lunch. I ordered Fillet Steak and Mussels. All were very good! Staffs were very nice. Very comfortable shop! Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!
Tried rump steak instead of my usual fillet or ribeye; unfortunately, it was too chewy. The mushroom side was so delicious, but the slaw was bland and dry, needing more sauce or mayo. On a positive note, Chop House craft lager impressed me, despite not being a beer person. Friendly and helpful staff. I'd return to explore their other dishes.
Great food presentation, however the pancakes were a tad bit dry. Coffees are double shots, which was a bit bitter for my taste. But that’s just my bad for not noticing before I ordered. Waitress said you can ask to have a single shot if you prefer it.
One of two factors by which I judge a restaurant is 1) the restaurant should be full with people and 2) there should be several items on the menu that I would want. The Pantry satisfies both. On a Tuesdays midday the restaurant was buzzing with activity. The halloumi and braised lamb were outstanding.
Pantry is one brunch place I always recommend to people as they do one of the best waffles I’ve had! I love the chilled vibes and during summer it’s nice to take a book and grab a seat outside while having something. Staff are very friendly and their food is unreal. You know they use quality ingredients when you try the food. I’ll be back soon again.

I came to Contini to celebrate mine and my flatmates graduation and the staff were fabulous! Rachel was our server and she was top notch! All the staff were so kind and friendly! The restaurant went above and beyond to make the day special for us. They gave us each a glass of prosecco on the house and brought out a plate with 'congratulations' written in chocolate. It was so thoughtful and on top of that the food was great. Would definitely recommend here for dinner or a celebration 🎉😊
A local spot for local dishes using quality ingredients. You can make a reservation to guarantee a table or wait in line for the little larder that is first come first serve. Baby and pet friendly friendly. The food is good nevertheless the presentation in silver trays could be improved for a better experience.
Lovely place for breakfast. One of the few vendors open before 9am but worth it with excellent service and food served in cute tin boxes.
We were also given plates with the tins. So no need to eat from the box if not wanted.

Lovely place with amazing waffles, probably the best in town. The Cajun Chicken sandwich was also incredible. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely return frequently :)
I went for lunch with 2 friends, everything was delicious. I got the vegetarian all day breakfast, everything was cooked perfectly. The caramel latte I had was lovely and so was the kiwi apple & celery juice! On the pricey side though, £24 for the breakfast, one coffee and one juice. But I can't fault the food or service.

I took my Mom here for her birthday dinner while visiting Edinburgh. great atmosphere, but we liked the food better at The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant at the Gardens Entrance of the Scottish National Gallery.
I had the No Small Fry, best black pudding and tomatoes I’ve ever had. Egg could’ve been runnier but overall very very good. Presentation was beautiful. My partner had a Roll with bacon and hashbrown, it was very yummy and great value she said. Highly recommended
The service is great and the food is satisfactory. My husband ordered a cappuccino (very good) and the salmon eggs Benedict. I ordered the iced chai, mango smoothie, and yogurt granola bowl. Everything was fine but nothing stood out as exceptional. I would have liked more granola in the yogurt bowl.

Food wise, there are some inconsistencies as well but the majority of the time the food is good and tasty. There is a small noticeable tension to shrink the portions across the time but in general the standards of taste are maintained high.
The main non positive comment I would like to highlight is the inconsistency in the pricing without in some cases. For example, eggs benedict are usually on the range of the £ 10-12 for breakfast but in one occasion we were there for breakfast, some time as always and we have been informed that there is no breakfast menu due to bank holiday but it’s lunch menu. Practically the same eggs benedict went up to £ 15-16. That doesn’t make much of a sense and may worth to be reviewed.
Overall, it’s a good place that I would recommend, worth visiting for sure.

We had breakfast and it was suuper good — the waitress that attended us was very friendly and understanding. The coffee was really good, not too strong but enough to keep me awake in the morning 🤣. Although we ordered something that wasn’t in the menu, they didn’t say anything and in our opinion, executed the idea perfectly. The interior design was so cozy, definitely will be coming back later!
Without a doubt the best place to get brunch in Edinburgh. Impressed with the menu’s gluten free options as a coeliac, staff were also incredibly lovely and welcoming. Food is delicious and priced well. 10/10 & will be returning regularly! 🤭💕

Most delicious breakfast! Great service, amazing place to eat for people with celiac (gluten allergy). We were in Edinburgh as a birthday trip for my dad and as a surprise he got a gluten-free chocolate cake at the end of breakfast. Definitely recommendation!
The BEST eggs Benedict I've ever had. It was quite busy when we arrived around 9:30-10am but luckily, we were happy to sit outside. Eggs Benedict with haggis was truly one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The lemongrass and ginger tea really hit the spot too. Definitely go but maybe arrive earlier than you think you should.
We were celebrating a special occasion and made a note simple on the online booking but were surprised by celebratory desserts 🥳 Wonderful service by the staffs. Food was good and had a wide selection, including vegan options. One thing I would appreciate is if the poached eggs were not overdone.
Went with a couple of friends to celebrate my 30th, the staff were so friendly and attentive, and there was a great choice on the menu. We got some light snacks to start and Prosecco which was all lovely and the food was delicious, we all got a salad which was actually very filling and so tasty, and shared some truffle chips which were divine!
Afterwards we had a couple of cocktails that were also fabulous and totally worth the money. It is quite pricey but as a treat it was just perfection! Will definitely be back

We enjoyed breakfast so much that we returned for dinner, which was also delightful. Choices were good, service was classy, and the decor was pretty and relaxing. Good selection of wines and craft beers. TIP: Book your table in advance, even for breakfast.

The char on the porterhouse was great! This is steak done right on the pan, better than sous vide. The sauces were also memorable. Our favourites were the blue cheese and the bone marrow sauce. The chimichurri helped cut away the monotony of beef, fries and the savoury sauces. It provided the tangy, spicy flavours necessary to finish the 800g steak. The best deal was that on Tuesdays, the porterhouse was going for £50 with 2 fries and 3 sauces, instead of the usual £80. The happy hour earl grey martini was also refreshing and a great pairing to cleanse the palette after the meal!
This restaurant is wonderfully decorated with European artwork that makes you feel a part of something historically significant. I guess that would be an age old indulgence of good quality food known to this region. In terms of food, the dishes we ordered were fantastic to look at and delicious. Service by our waitress, Naomi, was phenomenal despite the hectic state of the restaurant. Thank you Naomi. Do the flavors scream for a return? Most definitely!

A nice date, much anticipated, however ultimately left disappointed. The dishes were not worth the price. I was a little underwhelmed. The venue was nice inside and most of the staff were friendly. But yeah, unfortunately just really disappointed in the food. The tiramisu barely tasted of anything. I tried my partners Gnocchi in tomato sauce, I thought that was bound to be a winner, and they even managed to make that pretty boring and tasteless. A real shame. Also was told the pints of beer were pints. They were definitely not pints, more like 330ml. For £6 that’s quite bad.
I highly recommend this place, frankly the staff is a star 🌟 very polite and prompt to serve your orders, the decoration is a plus.

Cozy place with delicious breakfast. Really busy even on a Monday morning! We came as soon as it opened and it filled up within the hour. I ordered the hash which was perfectly seasoned and the quality of the ingredients was apparent. Good coffee too!
Mediocre experience overall considering the price. The food was good however the service wasn’t great, barely seemed like the servers were bothered. The steaks came out quite overdone that we had to send them back and it took at least 20 minutes to get a new steak and we’d already eaten half our sides by then. To be fair to the restaurant, they did bring out fresh sides with the new steaks however at this point our appetite had gone after waiting 45 min total for our meals and finishing our drinks. Overall I’d expect a place that’s specialty is steaks to get it right the first time as this was the main reason we had gone.

I couldn't find anything to fault. The food was nice, well served and tasty. We really liked the mac and cheese side! The staff are professional and efficient. The atmosphere is nice and the music adds a good bar like vibe. The seating is comfortable and the booths give you extra privacy. Given it is aiming to be high-end steakhouse, the quality matches the prices with a fillet steak around £36 and sides around £4.5. They try to stand out from the competition with their aged meat cooked over charcoal. Overall, it is a great steakhouse and offer a memorable experience.
