Beautiful and ancient church. Couldn't see the interior as it was closed that time but history is very interesting. It was converted into a mosque and converted back to church.

You need to visit the Valentinos crepe shop there. In general, it's a good relaxation spot after walking the whole city 😌 with some ancient ruins, souvenir shops and food facilities
Famous meeting point.clean area close to the main market.Give your date there and explore the center of the city.
Needs some repairing work in general but it’s a beautiful square full of street food
Not the best of parks, empty and sad but in a crowded city like this...is a breath of fresh air.
The park surrounding the statue is nice and relaxing, and in the night has more activity from the people that are enjoying the terraces and clubs around the city

This market was much smaller than I was expecting. The stalls had closed by the time we reach there,3:00 and the great thing was that there was some great restaurant around, which gave this a great feel and ambiance of a country inn.
BUT! You want to buy Greek preserves, like olives and the likes, then sell they were still on and we bought a basket of lovely olives
I suppose when you think about European history and art and architecture, you will think about Greece. Or about Alexander the Great and this place had a huge trove of information to share.
It was also ironic that most of the lovely treasures were off their history tombs….which is not surprising as our historic knowledge is based on that.
Which reminded me that the European culture pillaged the rest of the world from their land, people and resources. That they even realised the values of the tombs and the likes of civilisation of the world and pillaged them and took it to their own museum to show them. Now that is civilisation!

Which was not the case here, just saying….

Nice place full of energetic people. Lots of places with good food, topped by loads of history.
The museum is very large, rich in exhibits and information. You can spend few hours there if you are passionate about this topic. The price is very good!

Here you can find traditional food and fresh products. You can bring some souvenirs as well if you want. You definitely should visit this market if you will be it Thessaloniki.
It's a beautiful church with a ton of history tied to it. We enjoyed popping in as we walked through Thessaloniki. With its stunning beauty and important religious meaning, this is a necessary stop.
You must make the walk along the bay and see this square. It's like something out of a movie. Surreal. And personally speaking, livedvtge Aristotle's statue.

Where old meets new. On one side you can see the ruins of Palace of Galerius and on the other side, there are modern building, cafes, restaurants, stores.

I really liked it: busy, colourful, not European :) I recommend it to anyone who wants a good Greek market atmosphere.
Lively part of the city, a students pass with many cafes and street food choices

Located in the city centre. Free, no entrance fee. The building is surrounded by cafés and shops.
For what is worth, this must be the one of the best museums I've been in. Astonishing display of ancient histor, right here in front of your eyes, makes you grasp and feel so much awe. This is a must go place if you ever visit Solun/Thessaloniki. For 8 euros you can get 2 or 3 hours worth of value.

Fantastic place - not as vibrate or as large as Athens market but lots to see, lots of nooks & crannies to explore & restaurants/cafes dotted around. It’s a sprawling market, so make sure you explore all of it

My first time here, people were vere helpful, even took me to a nearby store to by cretan olives and oil. The butcher shops were impressive
Many closed and empty shops, otherwise, and probably a reconstruction going on, it was dusty all over the place
Sehr belebter Platz. Toll eindrücklich und von der Geschichte sehr interessant.
One of the nicest square in Greece! The street is surrounded from hotels and shops and in the front you see the amazing color of the sea! Some days (usually weekends) they do some events there for families and every individual! Plenty of cafes and bars within walking distance to have a drink or a bit. Some nice rooftop bars also with some stunning view! (See photo)! A must place to visit in Thessaloniki! Enjoy and cheers

Came to Grecee from 16 Aug to 28 Aug from Singapore. A party of two people total. We mainly did a self drive with a small car to get around from location to location.

This is like the main square here and you walk all the way up, it looks really nice the first time but it gets pretty normal afterwards. The whole sqare itself gets quite crowded sometimes esp during dinner time.

Its quite an easy street because you can always re-direct yourself once you come across this square. There isnt alot of seating here and I've seen a few public restrooms as well but I cant say if they were clean or not.

The floor is made of marble and is quite smooth and nice
History and mythology are intertwined in ancient Greece. This museum contains a nice collection that depicts both to shine a little light into life in ancient times around Thessaloniki

Entrance fee is 8 Euros.
Nice park that sits right across from a major market. Here you can find many places to shop, dine, and sightsee.

If you are in Thessaloniki, you should definitely stop by Aristotle Square before heading to the Waterfront. It is beautiful both in daylight and at night. You can find benches to get some rest, there are several shops, eateries around.

Market area in a passage with lots of cute stores selling all kinds of fresh and packaged products. It is super nicely decorated. Though if you come early on a Sunday, unfortunately the stores are closed.
Die Statue von E. Venizetos stellt einen der größten griechische Politiker der Neuzeit Griechenlands dar. Er war Premierminister von Griechenland. Er hat unter anderen die Vereinigung von Kreta mit Griechenland vorangetrieben.
Kind and helpful personnel. Great amount of historical and archeological findings. Informative descriptions and illustrations both in Greek and in English. If you want to read everything you would probably need 5-6 hours at least.

Very comfortable beds. You don’t pay for the bed only for drinks and food. Bit more expensive but no rip deal. The music is far to loud to relax.. We were there on a Sunday. Looks like it is a adults only place. One kid only. Exceptional for Sithonia.
Beautifully displayed archaeological museum, one of the largest in Greece. Gold and artifacts from ancient tombs dating well over 1000 years. Don’t miss the Field of Gardens outdoors (no tickets required for outside).
Amazing, beautiful, historical place. Very nice place to be, a must place to visit. At the foot of a historical plaza, with a lot of sightings.
There are two churches, one on the left side and one on the right side. In front the old ruïnes, just across the street! A must to visit and beautiful too see!
But remember this artist. And notice him!

This is the main square of Thessaloniki. It has restaurants around it and in the other side lots of bakeries. It is close to main street with a lot of shops and in the other side you can find the port. Lots of car parking around (not free).
That’s the symbol of our feelings and Turkish history, that’s the house we feel at home. I don’t know how it was before but still walking in the house makes me feel so happy and proud.

If you have the chance to visit only one museum in Thessaloniki, this should be it. The place is now museum, but it was where Atatürk was born. It takes you through the genius of 20th century was educated and what influenced his thoughts. Anyone interested in world history should visit here. There are Greek, Turkish and English explanations to everything. You can cover the entire museum in 45 mins. And it is free.

We went there twice to look for some Greek products to bring back home with us. The shops that we went to had very friendly staff that were happy to talk about their local products. Of course, there were still a lot of empty lots, but the ones that were already there were great! If we get to come to Thessaloniki again, I wouldn't mind coming to Agora Modiano once more.

Standing in the room where he was born.. No need to words. Feelings topped! We are so lucky that we live under the shadow of his imaginary revolutions; even they were realized just after the WW II in the middle of Salvation War of Turkey.
Looks amazing. Next time we come when it’s open, not a Tuesday
Nice to see ancient Roman buildings in the middle of the city.

I really liked this church. I suspect it is not visited as frequently by tourists because it is a church from the end of the 8th century while most tourists go to the earlier church architecture from the fifth and earlier centuries. But this one is, in my opinion, the more interesting one because it was built during the time when Byzantium did not allow, for a brief period of time, any figurative decorations in the church. So this church is somewhat different from many of the other churches with a lot of figurative art. In this church, the earliest layer of decorations is mostly patterns and mosaics - almost as if it were a mosque.

An emotional place where you can touch the story of one of the most interesting and important leaders in worldwide history.
Free entry, for which I congratulate the authorities.

I’m sure this museum is very important to Turkish people. However, it might not be interesting to an American tourist. However, despite that, it is small so it won’t take too much time to look through- so it won’t eat up your vacation time too much.
The Roman was something out of history itself, well preserved and incredibly breathtaking to look at. However, it is currently closed for renovations so we could not walk inside, still 5 stars because being closed for renovation does not ruin the experience! Highly recommended!

One of my favorite places in Thessaloniki. Full of shops, restaurants, cafes, souvenirs, etc, with an upper floor to have a break, seat, and eat or drink whatever you ordered. Special mention for the two shops in front of the other : one does tuna (pasta), and the other does egg sandwiches. Both are absolutely divine. Must-visit in Thessaloniki
Wonderful public square to visit in Thessaloniki. Plenty of restaurants and shops. A great place to people watch
they weren't open even though it was, according to their schedule posted on the ticket booth, a working day for them.
at least we got to read some history on the board about this place
Very dirty and full of homeless people
A beautiful museum in the heart of Thessaloniki. I was truly impressed with the exhibits. The combined ticket for all the museums was very smart even though I didn't have time to go to them all. Awesome experience
Quite interesting. Right in the centre of the city. They seem to be making major rejuvenation of the site with new materials
An indispensable part of the city’s heritage. This type of architecture demonstrates how unique this place is. The only downside is that the government should be stricter with vandalism and pay more attention to damages happening throughout the years in an attempt to retain the area intact and beautiful. The square could also comprise mini shops or activities for the visitors, instead of being a large empty square solely used for walking. The area should be treated more as a landmark, than being empty and just surrounded by nice buildings and a bus stop.
Such a cool piece of history to visit and view for free!

The Agora Modiano Market is a beautiful and historic market in the heart of Thessaloniki. It was recently renovated and reopened in 2022, and it is quickly becoming a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

The market is home to a wide variety of shops, including food stalls, cafes, and boutiques. There are also several restaurants on the premises, offering everything from traditional Greek cuisine to international fare.

The market is located in a central location, just steps from the waterfront and the city's main shopping district. It is easily accessible by foot, bicycle, or public transportation.

I visited the market on a Friday morning, and it was surprisingly quiet. However, I could tell that it has the potential to be a very lively and vibrant place. The shops were well-stocked and the food stalls were tempting. I enjoyed a coffee and ice cream, and I explored a few of the small shops.

I believe that the Agora Modiano Market has the potential to become the new modern heart of Thessaloniki. It has all the ingredients for success: a beautiful building, a central location, and a wide variety of shops and restaurants. I would definitely recommend visiting the market if you are in Thessaloniki.

Come for a snack, meal, coffee, cocktails, ice cream, and shopping! Upscale but not pretentious with food at every price point AND vegan (except the water store…that’s a bit much haha). And no upcharge for the location—same prices as you can find elsewhere in town. Plenty of seats upstairs.

♿️ friendly. Stores have no steps or a small lip for entry, and there is an elevator with ramp for the upstairs. HOWEVER, the bathroom door is transparent (see photo)!!! Not okay. Please ask management to fix.

🐶 Dog and child friendly.

⏰ Note: Half the shops are closed on Sunday, but still worth your time. Even the breakfast spots don’t open until 10 (8 on other days).

🥵 Suggestion to Management: It is too hot inside. The fans upstairs help, but not enough. Also, please post which stores are open on Sundays (half are closed). Also, you NEED to replace the ♿️ bathroom door (see photo—people deserve privacy). Please fix ASAP so I can give you 5 stars. You’ve done so well on everything else.
Agia Sofia Square in Thessaloniki is a lively and vibrant hub. It's the perfect place to soak up the city's energy, surrounded by charming cafes, shops, and a bustling atmosphere. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this square offers a delightful experience. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant vibes of Agia Sofia Square.
Beautiful roman forum but there is more to be uncovered or restored maybe in the future years!

Very pretty place to shoppe around
We were here on Sunday (all shops are closed) and most stores are open and offer a variety of meals, gifts, local produce and even a small kid area with great staff that helps with the entertainment.

The prices are a bit high but you get good quality.

Definitely recommend rainy or sunny day

Are one word reviews allowed? Brilliant.
When we visited here, it was closed due to restorations. However we could see it from the street side. Some biblical scholars believe it is the market place which is mentioned in the book of Acts 17:5 (NT), that apostle Paul and his companion was greatly pursecuted. Worth visiting if you're interested in the history.

It is a precious, important and very impressive place for us as a Turk. We got so emotional. It was more meaningful for us because we knew our history, but better information can be provided for foreigners, for example, a brochure with short brief information can be given at the entrance. The library section at the bottom was a bit empty, Atatürk was a leader who read a lot. It would be better to organize the library part in a much better way.

Beautifully redone, but not all spaces are filled yet. Seems geared to tourists mostly with shops selling food items like Greek honey, cheese, meats plus some interesting places to eat, a good wine bar, an ice cream shop, German street food…. Upstairs has seating, a bar at each end and live music at one end.
Amazing archeological site from Roman centuries by night. At the center of the town. There is parking area in front of the ruins.
Recommended.

Renovated and impressively modern Central Market of the historic center of Thessaloniki City. Many food products for purchase or immediate consumption. It seems that other interventions are also planned. Considerable positive action for the city, its residents and tourists. Worth more than one visit. It's hard to find a table on the mezzanine during busy hours and days. Have the experience on your visit in Thessaloniki City!
A lot of small food and souvenirs stores this Christmas and small Luna park area for the kids to play! But usually after Christmas there is nothing interesting to see here
One of the greatest symbols of the city of Thessaloniki. Big and amazing Church. And in this area around the church you can find many beautiful stores , coffee shops and restaurants with excellent food.
So far it's nothing but a by-pass view, but it'll probably grow to be a good piece of historical site.
Aristotle Square is one of the most beautiful places in Thessaloniki. Basically, it is a little more reminiscent of Venetian architecture than an authentic Greek style of construction, but regardless, the atmosphere is wonderful. A place with a beautiful view of the sea. Spacious, with wonderful cafes and restaurants, where you can take a break, relax with a glass of excellent cold nes frappe, freddo or Greek coffee, with a view of the sea.
Nice people's and wonderful place. I like spending time there 💕
I came here like at 3pm and they said it has been closed for about a year for construction although online it says it’s open. You can see it by the outside rails

Never getting bored of walking around, close to the archeological sites being reserved amid Thessaloniki. There's always something new you can notice every time you take a walk. Also, full of cats and dogs walking around, seemingly well-fed but I hope less to none will be abandoned...
The statue of Venizelos is located in the garden on the north side of Aristotle Square in the center of Thessaloniki. It was built in memory of Eleftherios Venizelos, the great Greek statesman. He was born in 1864 and served as the Prime Minister and Prime Minister of Greece seven times. He was later called the father of modern Greece.

It is an amazingly preserved historical landmark where you have beautiful cafes, bars and restaurants around. And even if you are low budget and still want to enjoy the vibe of the city, nobody will stop you buying a couple of beer from the supermarket or a take away Frappé and just chill here around the Agora which is a great melting pot. I enjoyed the little jazz-blues street concert made by great people who just met randomly.
Great place for a walk, always crowded even at night. Would be better off with all these junkies around, but they're harmless.
Large open space with ancient roman ruins and a park attached. We only passed through fairly quickly but it was great to see a bit more of Thessaloniki's history. The park was lovely too, there's a church set inside some beautiful gardens, fenced off when we went past but very nice to look at.
It's a large two terraced forum. It was dug up by accident in the 1960s and started with restauraton in 1989. Inside the agora you will be able to visit the restored ancient amphitheater (Odeion) with its stands and scene, elements and parts of the Corinthian columns that used to form the imposive two-storey porticoes, and well-crafted mosaic floors. The forum complex also boasts two Roman baths, one of which has been excavated while the other is buried underneath the city. The entire complex was organised around a rectangular paved open area that was used as a meeting or gathering place. Although the initial complex was not built in Roman times, it was largely refurbished in the 2nd century. It is believed that the forum and the theater continued to be used until at least the 6th century. The ticket for entering the entire complex is for an adult about 3€ and for students and children's under 18 years is FREE.

Central square, just above Aristotle's square. Nice place to walk, but it needs to be cleaned.

Great place for a traditional taste of Thessaloniki. You can get a really good feel for the history of the city here. We had lunch in a little pita place on the square which was good quality for the prices. This square also provides entrances to the markets which are a must to visit if you really want to get a fee of the magic of this place. Shame that it’s a little ran down and could do with a little tlc from the local authorities, but definitely should visit.
