Very cool place! Not well known history. Excellent staff. Fun watching/hearing the live musket fire. Highly recommend a visit.
We absolutely loved this! I believe paying $20 is not bad at all for this time capsule. Free parking, beautiful scenery, excellent customer service. The actors were so nice to educate and answer all my son's questions. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

This is probably the coolest old fort I have visited. Built by the French, English, and then Americans. The large building in the center and the gatehouse towers resemble a medieval castle in construction. The staff are informative and helpful, and the overall experience was great. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the Niagara or Buffalo area.
The actor who played the French soldier was hilarious and informative. He was worth the price of admission. The castle evokes ones imagination, of life with a caste system, trading with different nations and cultures. If you like beauty, come here to see the lake and river. Kids will love the musket firing. The museum is interesting and well done, but showing some signs of wear. Highly recommended.
Didn't get to see the fort, but lake Ontario was absolutely gorgeous! The beach was amazing and the rocks were very pretty. The fort only opens on Wednesdays through the weekends.
Puts the highly complicated history of European conquest of the America's into perspective. Reenactments of 18th century events are entertaining and informative. About 20 minutes by car, the best way to get there is a car. Infrequent bus rides will take you back and forth from Niagara falls too.
This is a must visit museum! Amazing collection of American art through the centuries and it’s 100% free to visit. The museum is spacious and inspiring. I spent 3 hours here and was not able to see the entire exhibition.
Went for the Memories of Christmas Past. We visited on a Thursday night so we could see the lights in the dark. Every room was so decorated so beautifully! 2 nice gift shops with vintage Christmas decorations for sale. If you've never attended, you can't appreciate the time and effort is put in to offer the public such a gorgeous and nostalgic experience.
The Christmas Experience was amazing!
Arms Family Museums's Christmas display is like taking a step back in time. Ornaments from 1900's to 1970 are found decorating numerous trees throughout. I really enjoyed how beautiful it looked.

Great museum, ample parking, friendly staff. The museum captures steel's past in and around the Mahoning Valley and tells the story of a lost era.
Admission is $20 for an adult. I feel like the fee should be like $10-15. It’s a cool place to visit. A lot of history. It’s not super crowded so you won’t have to worry about people’s heads photo bombing your pictures. The drive here was very straight forward. You can spend 3-4 hours here. They do some have demonstrations here. Employees were very nice.
The Arms Museum was decorated beautifully for the Memories of Christmas Past. Bill Lawson, Linda Kostka & Staff welcomed the guests with a warm holiday greeting. Their preparation for the event was awesome. The member reception was presented very well with delicious treats by Trina & Staff.

Beautiful view of a couple waterfalls. Hiking trail. This place is multiple trip adventure. North side, south side and middle.

Nice place but not needed. It's not much of a tourist attraction and I imagine less than 5% of local residents have ever been to it.
One of our favorite stops around Niagra Falls! Don't miss it. Highly recommend a tour! It's very cool here because it's right on the lake and windy. Beautiful views of the 'Castle' as they call it. Built in 1726 by the French. It is just stunning. They do a lot more things on the weekends like fire the muskets, tours, and local reenactors.
This is a must visit if you visit Buffalo or Niagara Falls. This is hidden gem. If Niagara Falls is a tad overhyped, then this place doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Especially if you love visiting real history, this is one of a kind in North America.
This fort has been held by 3 countries over the last 300 years - by the French, British and the Americans. At least for my wife and I, we loved this much more than Falls.

Visited Fort Niagara, State Park, over the Labor day weekend. For a state park I was quite surprised and disappointed over two things that irked me. 1.) The entrance fee, $60.00 for three people.
And 2.) In order to have my dog with me, I was told by the lady at the desk “we will allow you to bring in your dog if you sign this waiver”.
Unpleasantries aside, the fort buildings and grounds were pretty well kept.
The people at the buildings were helpful with questions.

Took a nice tour through the mill . Was great to read the history of the building. Gift shop is cute also plenty of walking trails and beautiful views here.
This place is absolutely beautiful and full of history. If you are visiting Niagara Falls, you have to visit Fort Niagara!

This place is fantastic. The staff is very knowledgeable and if they don't know they will look it up for you. The demonstrations were informative and incredibly entertaining. More than worth the price of admission. There is a lot of history here and a lot to see! I wish we had days not hours to spend here.

Finally got the chance to get to the mill. Wonderful place to hike. Being in the urban area it is, you wouldn't think it'd be such a nice place but it's very nice very clean. Although my dog for some reason hates to hike these days, it's a great place to take your dog. So probably next time I will leave him home.
Traveled here to see the Paul Stanley exhibit from several hours away. The Butler is a nice, quaint gallery with some nice pieces. Would stop here again if in the area.
The tour was great even on a rainy day. Except for the food. The burger was microwaved. Loved the musket shooting and wished they could have shot off the cannons but it was raining so I can understand. The experience was awesome. Highly recommend if you're in the part of New York.
beautiful and interesting! highly recommend Fort Niagara if you're in the area. we came for the lighthouse and are so happy we made the decision to stop here before ending our road trip. our 3 teen boys especially enjoyed all the demonstrations, exploring the French Castle, and talking with the "fur trader." if you time it right, you can even learn how they fired the cannons.
We visited the pool and loved it. The water was cold though! Wish there was a hot tub. Lots of lounge chairs and stair entry. They allow you to bring im food and drinks. Entry is $3-5 pp (I forget).
There is a large picnic area and if you walk down to the water you can swim. Id recommend water shoes though because the beach was rocky.

Theresa was our tour guide & she was FABULOUS! We took my 79 father-in-law to visit the home last week while he was visiting from Texas, and he loved it, as did our 8 year old son! The staff was very friendly, and Theresa was extremely informative and passionate about the home & family! We’re excited to return during Christmas time! Definitely recommend!
This museum is amazing. It is definitely worth a visit. So many different genres and multiple levels to explore. Allow yourself at least 2 hours if you want to enjoy the experience. There are two gift shops. Off street parking and close to many restaurants.
This historic place is wonderful for family excursions or field trips. However, not really geared towards kids under 5. They have different tours and demonstrations as well as special events. Call or check online for their schedule. They have a snack bar with slushies, ice cream, milkshakes, and more.
Lanterman Mill is one of my most favorite places in the world. Mill Creek Park, in general, is such a wonderful place. We were there on Saturday evening around 6 pm, and there were a couple of other people, but we mostly had the place to ourselves. The mill tours were closed that late, but exploring the trails is just as fun. Make sure to download the trail maps and figure out where you are on the map before you start exploring. Otherwise, you could end up having a pretty long trek back to your vehicle.
We've been to Niagara Falls before but last year we had a brochures and we noticed that there was a Fort here. So since last year we decided to come back to see the Fort and it was worth it. The history behind it because we had a guided tour, the buildings the view of that part of the Niagara River and the musket demonstration... however to get up close and view of the Fort you have to pay but it was worth it... you have to pay to get in the park and pay to see the Fort... I just wanted to emphasize that
Gorgeous park with plenty of space to feel freedom. The beach area was great for the whole family. Great for walking, bike riding, throwing ball, or just playing on the playground. Restrooms were available, along with places to tie up your bikes.
For an additional fee, there is a pool to play in and tours of the Fort itself. The lake is absolutely stunning and clean. Everything felt safe. Highly recommended.

Visiting this fort was on our to do list while up in Niagara Falls. After admission there is a museum that also includes a short film. Following the museum we went out into the grounds of the Fort. It’s a good walk and not all the paths are paved so wear proper attire. Every hour on the hour the “Soldiers” fire a musket rifle however, in our case the rifle didn’t go off even after 6 attempts. The “Soldiers” and “civilians” were doing re-enactments while walking through the buildings so it felt immersive.

Once you finish your tour there is a gift shop on site where you can purchase trinkets, books and t-shirts. If you are a history lover I recommend you go check this great fort out.

Amazing gem in Youngstown. Free entrance to a packed art museum. Parking is also free. Exhibits are of high quality, featuring famous artists and some lesser-known artists as well. Highly recommended!
nice trails to walk, pretty mill. great view from the big bridge. not a far walk from the parking lot closest to the bridge. Great nature spot and incredibly happy to see the certified monarch waystation!!! that always gets points in my book as my yard is certified, too
We absolutely love The Butler! They have art classes and activities for all ages.
one of the world's few art museums dedicated to American artists, free, wonderful. There is a visiting Van Gough (again), something for every age - take your kids!

Lots of information, great displays, and clean. Two story building with plenty of historical items inside. A quick walk through will take 20 minutes, but you could spend hours here reading every sign and watching videos on multiple monitors throughout the museum.

Attractive venue for events of 40 to 60. Inexpensive hourly room rental includes table/chair setup. Catering permitted. Museum tour led by entertaining and highly knowledgeable docent included at no extra charge. Don't miss the steeworkers' changing room, the hooks and chains used to hold lunch boxes away from the rats, and poignant letters written by workers and their families in the early 1900s!
This place was fascinating and the history of it going back to being picked up by the park system in 1888 is mind blowing. The staff was so friendly and informative. The working condition is so interesting to see up close. A working mill. Only two companies left in the country to service it. This is a great visit for kids who have an interest in mechanisms and history.
It's been several years since I was last here but I can say this time around was way better than the first time. Beautiful views and great pictures. I visited on March 5th and the sun was setting so I was able to get some really great photos of the mill and the falls. I didn't really hike much this trip but I'd try it in the spring or summer.
The Butler Institute is a real treasure! By focusing only on art by American artists, this fine museum founded by Joseph Butler over 100 years ago has a wonderful collection from early colonial and native american art to contemporary art. Furthermore, The Butler runs special exhibits steadily throughout the year, often with two or three running at the same time.
Various photos and exhibits of the steel industry in Youngstown but no mention of Jim Traficant who is part of the Youngstown story. Employees are friendly and place is well maintained
It was nice to read about Youngstown History. It's such an enriching history in this town. I found so many interesting facts. I even said "Hello" to a wax security guard!!! He looked so real.
The Arms Museum is a beautiful gem in Downtown Youngstown and is especially remarkable when decorated for Christmas. I have been several times and wanted to surprise my family with a visit today. Unfortunately, my entire experience was colored by the rude and dismissive "greeting" we were given up on entering. The workers made us leave the home to go to another building to purchase our admission sticker. When we returned they were cordially helping a couple purchase their admission right there , where we had just been trying to do the same before we were sent to the other location. It was difficult to enjoy the beauty of the displays and to share all of the discoveries with my family after having been treated with such disregard and made to feel so unwelcome.

There have certainly been better displays in the past, but this is really fun for people who love vintage Christmas charm. Glad to attend this year, too.
A hidden-in-the-open secret passageway into Youngstown's steel history. It was much better than anticipated! While small, it's clean, airy, and information packed with interesting displays and timelines. Great for adults and children, with some hands on displays. Parking during a weekday was easy.
Learn all about the steel industry and what life was like for those back during the late 30s and 40s.
Exploring early Yo-town civilization was really hopping in the 1920's. Post-slavery men finding their niche in baking in the winter months and in the Spring-Fall, he was a Mason contractor--Guess Who? Burt built Good Humor and many other fun historical facts that will surprise and get you into reading more! Very nostalgic.
A wonderful local history museum! I Volunteered here for 3 years and always felt that the staff and guides were friendly and knowledgeable. So much so that I applied and got a job here last summer! Excellent choice for an afternoon visit if you're in the area! The Christmas display is absolutely gorgeous, and features new decorations every year.
The Tyler History Center is one of the best museums of local history I've ever been to! I also highly recommend going to the sister museum on Wick Avenue. The Arms Family Museum is absolutely beautiful too!
This is a cool place to learn about the steel industry in the Youngstown, Ohio area. There are some great maps, photos, stories, and railroad displays. Some of the stories are heartbreaking for lots of reasons, but this small museum helps explain why people are the way they are here. The backbreaking and dangerous work that most local residents' fathers or grandfathers did during the steel industry zenith explains a lot about Youngstown's culture of hard work, handiwork, and humility. This is a good one-hour history lesson for Youngstown enthusiasts.
My favorite art gallery in Ohio this far! And it's free!! So many displays, not your normal museum. Glorious range of art, and kinetic art!

This is a great museum conveniently located in downtown Youngstown. I went here and was immensely satisfied with my experience. I parked in the museum’s parking lot and walked in, where I payed the admission price. After I payed the admission price, I went past the admission’s desk and into the main part of the museum. I walked around the various exhibits, which explained how steel is made and the history of the steel industry in Youngstown. After I walked through the main exhibits, I walked down to the lower level of the museum. Down there are more exhibits about the history of the steel industry in Youngstown and a model of a machine found in a steel mill. After I walked around the lower level of the museum, I went back up to the main level. I walked into another room which had a model of a steel mill. After looking at that model, I left the museum, satisfied with my experience. I gave this museum five stars because it has nice exhibits.
I was there celebrating my nephew's son's wedding. It is a beautiful venue for any event you might have. It can accommodate up to 300 people. It has an elegant feel with high windows looking out onto part of the city.

Went with my sons class on a field trip. It was very nice! Would make a nice family outing one weekend!
This is for the banquet portion, not the museum. Nice large space and well laid out. The bar and bathroom are on a different level from the dining area, can be a little awkward, but I like how it lends it to a seperate area away from the music. It's easier to talk and mingle that way. Beautiful hardwood floors and stained glass inside. Plenty of parking too.
Have been there twice. The building restoration is great! Really cool permanent collection. Plenty of room for special exhibits. Attended a symposium on steelmaking in the Mahoning Valley in the meeting room upstairs. Well done. Nice well lit parking lot.
