One of the most beautiful places in the Berkshires. It is not even on Google maps! The view there is so beautiful.

Ever since I did a trip with my 90 year old Mom, who needed a walker to walk, I have really appreciated accessible paths. Unfortunately the way from the parking area to the path is not accessible, though the path over the bridge along the river is. I know when I get to that stage in my life, I will need accessible paths to get out into nature.
Great botanical garden with greenhouse and art gallery across the street. Many plants and sections clearly marked with varieties. Parking was easy. Nice gift shop inside. Been there a few times, quite enjoyable.
A wonderful museum showcasing the life and work of iconic illustrator Norman Rockwell. There are two parallel exhibitions of contemporaneous artists, one of whom is Leo Leoni. There is multimedia, including a short documentary about Rockwell. On grounds are picnic tables overlooking the Berkshires and well-maintained walking trails.
Loved visiting this museum, seeing the works of such a great artist in such a historic time. Grounds are beautiful as well. Start with the video, it highlights so much about his life.
Not cheap ($22 adults) but an incredible museum for lovers of art, realism, Rockwell and US history! Start downstairs with a 12 minute video on his life. Take a moment to look at the hundreds of magazine covers, then move upstairs to view his paintings. The most interesting paintings include the sketches or model pictures to see his process.

This was a great experience! I loved how close the paintings were. This made it easier to see. I also liked the tour. I would suggest taking this tour because it can help you understand Norman more and why he painted certain images the way he did. Also, the gift shop has great items that I enjoyed and still like today.

Great local museum! The woman working in the gift shop was insanely kind and gave me a free bookmark because I mentioned I was buying items to decorate my dorm room with. Would definitely visit again!!

The museum at Mission House with the mini exhibit on the history of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians was among the best I have visited. The information was eye-opening, concise, and written in plain language. The space was well-lit and easy to navigate. In contrast, Mission House itself was dimly lit and narrow, with rooms visible only behind dirty plexiglass. The entire Mission House complex is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset during the spring, summer, and fall. The gardens are open all year. Both the Stockbridge-Munsee museum and the furniture displayed at Mission House are on the ground floor. The museum is wheelchair accessible, while the house requires a step up to enter the building. Parking is available on street in the lot across the street from the cemetery about a quarter mile down a paved sidewalk.

parking isn't too bad way too short and very muddy right now with all the rain i don't recomend it. going down the lake is pretty nice though but very easy and not challenging at all if you want to walk your dog

The moderate hike through the old growth forest offered a picturesque experience, with towering trees providing ample shade. The presence of large boulders added an exciting element to the trail, making it both visually appealing and physically engaging. Truly magical hike.

Went to see the Christmas lights and it was well worth it! The property is beautiful and the mansion is old time aesthetics decorated to the hilt. They had the shuttle busses well organized and everyone was having a blast. They also offered hot drinks and snacks for sale as you first get there (by the house). They were also piping holiday music throughout the property to add to the ambiance. The only thing missing was snow. Definitely go if you get the opportunity!
Sufficient parking for the nearby trails and parks, although repaving to eliminate puddles would be helpful.

As always. It is a spectacular location. Is spectacular venue. Every year it’s laid out a little differently for each event. I highly recommend becoming a member of the Trustees group to get tickets. Every event is well planned out. Flow of foot traffic is good. They’re very nice handicap accessible bathrooms. Staff has always been very friendly which is extremely important especially around the holidays. Excellent little gift shop. Cute little snack stands with all sorts of little accoutrements. Fire in the winter time. There’s a lot of walking. The grounds are very well-maintained. Each exhibit is stunning. Most events require you riding a school bus from town to the property. Lots of good email communication. You do have to plan for extra time if you have a parking lot location. Parking choice a is the most ideal in town. But you have to be prepared to park on the street or find a spot in one of the lots.
Cute little park. But it was like 5 sketchy men hanging out there and i was not comfortable going in a hike so I returned to my car 😂
We purchased two tickets for the museum and only after trying to enter were told that all the actual exhibits were closed off to the public for an event and that the artist studio was closed as well. So we paid $20 each to see a basement of recreated artwork while the originals were above us. We were told we could enjoy the rest of the open museum by taking the elevator from the basement to the 1st floor. It took us to the gift shop.... We felt the basement exhibits were nice but that it was not right to charge us for full admission without advising us that multiple areas were closed to the public, yet had other people going in and looking around.
So pretty here, even in the rain! I’d love to explore some other time if I’m ever in the area when it is sunny and not full of vendors for a harvest festival. I learned a few things and enjoyed seeing such diverse plant life. I also like the vegetable garden area and learned there are more types of tomatoes than I had realized! It was a quick walk through and I didn’t get to see it all but it was lovely anyway. I do hope to visit again someday.

The incredible pumpkin show was truly incredible. So many pumpkins, so much talent. My ticket was for 5:30 pm and it was perfect to get the daylight and night viewings. The folks here really did go all out!

A small house with tremendous history. Tour three structures on the property, each sharing Native American history and traditions as well European. Settlers. Original furniture, clothing, cooking utensils and books throughout John Sergeants home.
It is a beautiful place and well maintained. It's also easy to find and seems as though the parking would normally not be a problem. We were there the day before a Halloween festival, so parking was difficult due to a lot of vendor setup activity. There is quite a bit to see, and although there is a map, which I found generally helpful, it is probably just as fun to wander around.
In general, everything seemed to be labeled well, which is great if you really want to know what you are looking at and don't want to have to constantly consult a pamphlet.
The gardens cross a road, and while there is a crosswalk, you do need to be careful as it seemed that some were driving a little too fast for the road. It's probably best to do one side and then the other to minimize road crossings.
The visitors center has drinks and snacks and a small gift shop. We did not shop but stopped in to pay, ask some questions, and get a map. As far as the fee is concerned, the recommended donation is $18/adult. I walked away feeling that was just a little high, but it's likely that was a me problem for two reasons. First, we were pressed for time, so I didn't feel as though I spent enough time to "get my money's worth." Second, the $18 is the suggested donation, and I felt no pressure to pay that amount.
It was the off season, so everything was dying off. We were still able to walk the grounds and view the different types of gardens they had. There was a gallery that showcased a local artist pieces. They were beautiful. They had a living wall( picture). That was beautiful. We went on a Tuesday and admission was free that day
When I drove in, the welcome area was greeting two tour buses - super smooth Saturday entry.
Leaf peeping beautiful fall colors; can walk the property to the stream & his studio.
I purchased post cards of my favorites & will create a memory wall.
A joyful experience. On display are a host of Rockwell paintings and Saturday Evening Post covers. Each piece has an informative plaque with insights into the origin and use of the piece. I enjoyed seeing the process by which he created his paintings and sketches.

Also on the grounds is his studio which was relocated from the nearby site of his Stockbridge home. You can almost feel the creative process come alive.

Some site photos plus a few of the pieces in the museum are included.

Wow! My two adult kids and I experienced the Naumkeag Pumpkin show last night at 7 pm. It was spectacular. Very easy to navigate and beautifully appointed. So many amazingly carved pumpkins arranged by theme to cover every interest. The first floor was open and decorated with pumpkins and rooms decorated spookily. First visit won't be our last.

No matter what season of the year you choose to visit, it will be worth every penny.
I purchased our tickets in advance and scheduled our visit for the 5:30pm. Once we arrived in the parking section (you get to choose when purchasing your tix), the bus was waiting for passengers to take you to the mansion (a 5-minute ride).
Once we got off the bus, the adventure started. As soon as you walk in, you will see restrooms and a booth where they have snacks and drinks available to purchase.
We had so much fun seeing all the different types of shapes on pumpkins.
5:30 time was a great choice because we got to see the pumpkin before getting lightened up. The sunset was just breathtaking, and it felt like Christmas later at night.
I would highly recommend bringing mosquito repellent and comfortable shoes.
Naumkeag has such magnificent scenery that we will definitely come back for the Christmas season.

While the home at Naumkeag was closed on the day I was there in preparation for their Harvest Festival, I did manage to walk the grounds. It is one of the loveliest places to visit in the Berkshire Mountains.

We booked the noon o’clock tour and thoroughly enjoyed it! Our guide was highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about French’s work, teaching us a lot about how he developed and perfected his style, as well as many interesting stories from his life. The grounds are absolutely beautiful too. Highly recommend a visit to Chesterwood if you’re in the Berkshires!

Beautiful property. Cool house. Great walks in nature and around the property. Lots of stairs blocking any clear paths around so not particularly stroller or wheel chair friendly. Inside the house they had some very cool rooms, especially the views of the closets!

Beautiful site. Staff are very helpful instructing guests on accessing the audio guide on your phone. Gardens are on both sides of the road. It takes about 2 hours to leisurely see everything. There are lots of places to sit and relax while enjoying the gardens.

Spectacular property with newly restored gardens and a wonderful view. The house is very interesting, with the original contents, somewhat grand but also welcoming. This property is clearly very well loved and maintained by the Trustees. I would love to return for another visit just to enjoy the gardens, maybe with a picnic next time.
My wife and I are regular visitors to botanical gardens in different cities — the Berkshire Botanical Garden stands out as very special and a “must-see” for visitors to the area. The complex itself is bifurcated by Highway 102. There is visitor parking on one side only (presumably the older portion of the Garden). Interestingly, they have made this condition a distinctive advantage, providing two distinctive types of landscapes. There is also a store selling books and merchandise, an education center building (with accessible toilets), and an art gallery/library/conference building. Plenty of seating and of different types for individuals, couples, small groups.
There was so much to see! We spent hours exploring the many gardens in the sunshine and during an unexpected light rain which we waited out in a lovely arbor. There were so many beautiful flowers even in mid-August.

Stepping into the woods for a beautiful walk. Due bring mosquito repellent others wised they will carry you away.
It is really well-cared botanical garden. Of course, it should not be compared to larger NYBG, Brooklyn botanical garden, CT Wickham park or Planting Fields arboretum. Several gorgeous gardens are packed into its modest acreage.

I have mixed impressions visiting this museum. The entrance fee of $20 per adult seemed excessive given small footprint of exhibition gallery and mansion being under renovation. However, gardens, views from the property and trails added another star to my review. I recommend to try Ledges trails for hiking (hiking boots are recommended) although trail markings are only for start / end of the trails.

Small museum featuring Native Americans from the area. Interesting history out in the garden shed too. You can walk into the house but only look into the rooms past the front hall.

We bought our senior tour tickets online. The tour was utterly incredible. Our docent was himself a painter and brought a personal perspective to his comments about Daniel Chester French's work. The museum and visuals were historically informative. The tools were on display, and the visuals showed how sculptors work. Letters of commission were there, as well. The studio out back has been turned into an artists display. The large house/ workshop out back shows the incredible scale in which Daniel Chester French worked. The large doors and railroad tracks used to transport both marble and statues were silent testament to his era and the history of the place. The flower gardens were picturesque and well tended. There was also a woodland path for walking and reflecting on the history. The statues both on the lawn and in the studio were magnificent. There is a gift shop where one can buy replicas of statues. There are canvas stools available for those who would enjoy sitting during a presentation. The hills framed everything in a peaceful way.

The sculptor Daniel Chester French is best known to most as the creator of the great statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. He lived in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and built a beautiful home as well as a sculpture studio that will turn artists green with envy. Docents are on hand to give you information about these places, and it is awe-inspiring to stand in his studio where such art was made. Chesterwood hosts an Artist In Residence program, so you might be fortunate enough to see a sculptor working in here during your visit. It’s lovely to go in the summer when the gardens are at their best.
Cool small botanical garden with different types of plants a greenhouse fountain and a shaded small promanad for visitors to go through. Some highlights are the plants arranged in shapes of animals the pond and the greenhouse good stop along the road

Very nice Wilderness Trails.... Lots of exposed roots in the ground, but easy to navigate... This property abutts the back of Tanglewood property..... One freaks descending ridge with collecting streams feeding Stockbridge Bowl.... It's a Dog friendly spot.....

At the lower elevation, along the waters edge is a sitting bench with some shade that looks out across the whole lake..... Very peaceful

Located on route 183 just below Hawthorne Street, across the roads from Kripalu Yoga Center.

Chesterwood is one of those places to which I always look forward to going back. As an event and wedding photographer in the Berkshires, it's a very special location. The historic architecture coupled with the gorgeous gardens, as well as the sunsets over the nearby mountain make Chesterwood a quintessential Berkshires venue. I look forward to my return!
I went in late April and it was so beautiful, everything is budding, the walk of all the daffodils is ridiculously cute. Be sure to check out the art as well. The shaped garden even has some chairs that you can sit on, made out of bushes! Stunning place, and a lovely experience.

This truly is a beautiful and serene historical home and studio to visit. It is a well-preserved Homestead of Daniel Chester French who was the sculptor best know for the Lincoln Memorial and The Minute Man. We took the guided tour and you learn such intricate details that might be overlooked on your own. Worthy of a stop if you enjoy history.

Mission House is an interesting place to check out in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The house itself is an old building that was originally built with the intention of spreading Christianity to the Mahican people living there. There is an herbal garden as soon as you walk into the fenced area, and there are two buildings people are allowed to go into. Inside one, there was a display of what the house may have looked like using old furniture and such. Some items have descriptions such as where they came from or the date of the item. The second building serves as a small museum for the native people, that were here before the Europeans invaded the land. There was a lot of useful information on poster boards that were displayed on the walls inside. I especially found the timeline to be fascinating. There were also some cool pamphlets available to take, such as one containing recipes for making local foods. When I went, it was free to enter, though that may be because we went on a "field trip" for my work. I would recommend checking out Mission House to learn more about the local history in the Berkshires.

Nice place for a nature walk or hike. Cute old bridge to go over the water. If you climb up beyond the train tracks you get a view of the mountains.
This was my first visit to Laura's Tower. There are two trails, one that loops around next to the river and the second that leads to a steel staircase which gives an amazing view of the surrounding area. The loop is flat and easily accessible and the trail to the tower is more of a moderate climb with some rocky terrain. Worth it when you reach the top. No facilities.
Pro: dogs on leash allowed. Con: very limited parking.
Tiny park entrance to 3 wonderful hikes right at the edge of Stockbridge village. Lovely serene view of the Housatonic River on the footbridge. Four stars cause it's an entrance and not really a park; however it's 5 star rating for the entrance and 3 different walks/hike options all of which are good and very different from each other. See photo of the hike options.

Great lake side walks. Dogs and people love it. Tall old trees. Cool in summer as it's mostly in the woods. Easy walking. Beautiful in all seasons.
Nice place for a picnic. You have to be careful entering because the driveway slopes down sharply and turns right away, but it is not too bad. There is a good-sized parking area at the bottom of the hill.
Several paths lead down to the lake. There is a dock there and two picnic tables. The trees go right up to the water, but you can reach the shore easily and there is a narrow sand strip along the edge for wading.

So, we found out about this place and I went online to find out how much. Sounded great to do with my son before Tanglewood. Stopped in and it is all dark and locked. Go back online and call the number where I'm told you have to schedule in advance. I suggested they put that on their website, the girl curtly said "thanks, goodbye".

Bullard Woods was donated to the Stockbridge Bowl Association in the mid twentieth century. It's a gorgeous, meandering set of trails feauturing, well, wooded areas (of course) but also fields and a beautiful waterfront with a few picnic tables. It also connects to Gould Meadows to the West via the Tanglewood Connector Trail. Kudos to the SBA, Tanglewood and the Town of Stockbridge for preserving the entire northern portion of the Bowl and making its trails available to the public. It's open all year and it's a great place to bring your dog and is considered one of the best dog walking locales in the Berkshires. Finally, it's a great spot to see wildlife. I've had numerous fox sitings and deer of course, but my favorite was the beaver along the shores of the Bowl, which I captured in a photo below. There are also several bald eagles who nest here and are often seen circling far above or hanging out in the upper branches of an oak tree on the lake's shore. Fantastic.

Gorgeous walk down to the lake - Stockbridge Bowl - which starts at Gould Meadow - a lovely grassy open field that leads into the woods and across a lovely small stream.

You can do a circular walk across open small fields just below Tanglewood and along a narrow wooded path along the lake filled with new and old trees. Easy to moderate walk.

Good all year. Wear sneakers or boots with good tread especially in wet times/ seasons. In winter use a walking stick and or yak tracks or similar tread in ice and snow.

Check yourself for ticks 10 months of the year. Stay to the path and don't brush against branches and mostly you will be tick free. All of Bershire walks and most lawns require tick checks. Black Deer Legged Ticks - the one that carries Lyme and other nasty diseases tend to be most active in the shoulder seasons and when nights are cool but it varys year to year. Don't let it stop you. It's a great walk.

Great easy 30 minute to one hour walk to the lake and back. Several lovely interconnecting trails through fields and woods. Rolling terrain close to and next to the lake called Stockbridge Bowl. Photos from mid April.
