A few trails start from the parking lot of the preserve. Trails are passable even after previous day’s rain since in many wet spots there are wooden planks to help. It’s a nice oasis in the middle of suburbia. You can hike all trails under one hour.
Breathtaking views of Navesink river from the park, worth a short visit if you are in the area. However nearby Riverside Gardens Park is much more impressive.
There is noticeable progress in pier’s transformation into the park. River and Manhattan skyline views are gorgeous. About 3/4 of the pier is now open to public.
Charm of historical estate and grounds was coupled with nice exhibition of local artists. Parking lot is in the rear (see instructions on gallery’s web site).
Fun to visit local beach in winter, beautiful views of Northport Bay.
