The address should be fixed now hopefully. For some reason it took us to the back of the apartments
Great place to get out and exercise. I like riding my bike here. Don't forget to bring water.
The trail head is easy to find, but it would be wise to have the trail head loaded into your mapping software before you drive into the Thompson Park area, because cell service is minimal and spotty at best. There are portions on the trail that you can pick up a signal (Verizon), but make sure you let someone know where you were going if you are coming here. I have also been recommended that I bring bear spray. However, I have not seen any in the two times I have run and biked the trail.

You can make a nice loop with a mountain bike with the continental divide trail that will take you back to Highway 2 and then a short ride downhill on Highway 2 to the trail head. The Colorado Divide Trail will take you back to Highway 2 at Pipestone Pass. There is occasional stream water along the way, but bring a filter.

The hike/ride is pretty gentle and mostly rideable up, should be completely rideable down. There are a few technical rock sections, but the trail is pretty easy. There are some steep sections a person may have to hike a bike, but these are few. Overall, I would classify this mountain bike trail as a blue/intermediate difficulty.

At one point about halfway through, there is a good view of the mountains to the southwest. I really like this trail, because I see very few people here, and it is a nice way to find some solitude very close to Butte.

Near the top of the trail, where it connects to the continental divide trail, there is a beautiful meadow and wooden bridge. crossing a small stream. I would imagine you could find some wildlife here. (See attached photo).

The trail is mostly uphill, around 900 feet of elevation gain in total, but there are a few hundred feet of descent to the meadow before you do the final climb up to the divide trail.

An out and back makes a nice trail run. Highly recommended!

Beautiful mountains and forest! Great, rugged hike with a well defined trail. It is dog friendly.
Minimal shade. Toilets were pretty clean. Nice stop for lunch for us. (Cooler lunch).

No playground or water fountain. Walking trail looked nice

Beautiful, well maintained, paved flat trail. I met a lovely woman and her dog and we walked together and she told me it's maintained through winter as well. My dog loved being able to get to the creek and enjoying all the new scents. Until I get in better shape this will be our daily walk. Lol Then onto trails with incline.

Honestly it is a nice park don't get me wrong but it was so hard to find a place to hike and the signage was so terrible. My family and I kept stopping and started to hike but we would end up running into a 'private property' sign and then we would have to turn around and try again. Finally we found a place to hike and it turned out to be a really nice hike but it was cut short due to my brothers asthma and it started to rain. I love all the history you can see while on the hike. It looked like there was also an old train tunnel which was super cool! Not much wildlife which is fine with, me last thing I need to run into is a bear. We saw birds, squirrels, and even a few snakes! If I'm ever out in this area I definitely want to come back for sure!
The trail is pretty but the mosquitoes drove us away so we didn't walk very far. Parking lot was "meh" as there was trash and a used condom on the ground. Yikes.
Nice area for hiking & mountain biking. Several parking areas. Beautiful drive along highway 2.

This trailhead is on MT2 which is a short scenic drive from I90 in Whitehall back to I90 in Butte. Easy enough to stop while traveling if you want a quick hike near the CDT. It's 4 miles from the trailhead to the CDT.

Awesome trails and beautiful scenery! Perfect for horses, dogs, bikes, hikes or casual strolling. Beautiful bridge and multiple tunnels ( scarce light in tunnels but well worth it). Lots of falling trees too, wildlife presence all around.

This was a great stop along our road trip. It was so beautiful to walk along this path and enjoy the fresh air and mountainous views. These small creek running alongside the trail was lovely to hear gentle water noises. Would highly recommend to stop here for some peace and quiet during a road trip

Very beautiful hike area.
It was a little cluttered with fallen trees, the trail was clear and well used, and the vistas were clear and very stunning. Really a great day hike.
Love the snow capped mountains in the foreground of our walk this afternoon. Beautiful Montana scenery!
Great trail!

First, if you follow Google's directions and you're looking to get into the rail trail. The access points are on the other side of the highway. This is a really cool hiking area really closer to Butte, and the park is on both sides of the road. The hiking is great. I hear the biking is excellent. We started at the Lion's Den trailhead just down the road and had an excellent evening hike.
It's very beautiful, but if you're not ok with cold weather make sure you visit in the spring and summer months
Wow absolutely gorgeous place for a run or hike!

Great fun riding this old railroad grade. Tunnels were cool but you may want to bring a light for the longer one. Good biking for beginner bikers.

Great trails. Getting a bit sandy. Typical full summer conditions.
I really like this area I like the fact that the trail continues on for miles, Perfect for bike riding all day long. There's a nice little creek runs all the way through it and then top it off it's next to the railroad tracks which my boys love.
This weekend the creek was up on the trail underneath the bridge but it wasn't so deeply couldn't ride through it. I didn't realize this trailer so long because it's not even on Google Maps yet.
The restrooms are a great addition to these trails and they're not the typical outhouse. The toilets are all completely metal but nothing a little sheet of toilet paper can't help.
We happen to stop in the park and rocker which was nice for the boys. A pretty decent equipment including a basketball hoop for half court.
The show itself was a little bit bumpy between Butte and rocker. But I'd still call this one my favorite walking trail.
Whiskey Gulch Station! Nice, remotely quiet, slightly scenic place to take the dog for a quick walk if we can't get into the mountains or are pressed for time. Only drawback is the bugs in the summer time. Due to S#!π Creek being so close, you may encounter clouds of mosquitos and whatever else may be hatching nearby once the weather warms up.
