Disappointment. We waited about 30 minutes in a massive queue which was not monitored in any way. It was just a huge amount of people pushing in because of the rain. We were not even sure if we were in the right queue as the time for our boarding has gone by and we have not been told anything. Finally we boarded the boat 15 minutes late and it was absolutely packed. The only seats available were at the front where there were a lot of holes through which the rain water had come on the boat. The seat was wet, the table was wet. I wiped the seat with my handkerchief and sat on my jacket only to get it drenched as well as my sweater. The captain had a hard time seeing where we were going so one of the passengers offered to wipe the front window for him. There was no air, no heating, I am wet through and through. We have been told the captain requested a different boat for us because of these issues but his request has been denied. I did not enjoy the lights festival at all. If you really want to see it, just walk it. Steamy windows and wet seats are not worth it.
We have enjoyed our cruise ride. It’s a great experience to see the beautiful canal city. Seeing the beautiful houses and bridges from another angle that one may not see by walking or cycling around. Highly recommended.
Terrible cruise experience. The windows were so dirty that it was impossible to enjoy the beautiful views outside, we were lucky to move from this spot before the seats got filled up. During summer there is no ventilation in this area and gets very hot. Additionally, the boat waited until it was completely full before leaving the port. This led to my family and friends getting separated, causing a great deal of frustration and inconvenience. So if one would still like to go on a cruise, ensure you are there early or just wait for a new boat to come along so you are free to choose the right seats and sit with friends/family.
Amazing, superb service, we had the most fun and nice capitan (and co capitan ) with great jokes and engaging, it was on my husband birthday and the capitan was super nice not only mentioned his birthday but they even sang the birthday song! The boat was super clean, and everyone was super polite. The tour is very pleasant and charming! Totallyyyyy recommend!
The ride was fun. There were a few accidents, thankfully, nothing serious. The driver was very funny, adding to the prerecorded explanations. Unfortunately, when we booked, there were no clear instructions on what boat company we were to look for. We found it after so many hours, but thankfully, it was still running. It was very beautiful and rich in history.
I bought an open ticket at the cruise line dock and it needed to be turned into a time slot ticket at the canal boat dock. That was a little confusing and not explained when I purchased it. The tour itself was nice. They have earphones to plug in for multiple languages to listen along the way. The captain added English and German comments also. It was a relaxing way to see some of the city.
Took a 1 hour canal cruise for €16 and it was worth it, and the summer sun also was a blessing! The tickets can be booked online easily to avoid the hassle of queues. The captain was very skilled and funny, as he explained the sights along the way. There is of course a multi-language audio guide and they provide free earbuds that you can keep.
As there were 9 of us including 4 kids we booked in advance on the internet to be sure. We wanted the 'open boat' but you can only book that a couple of days before and it depends on the weather forecast. We tried to change on the day but it proved impossible. Also to note there are cheaper prices available once you're in Amsterdam. Otherwise the 1hr cruise is enjoyable and informative
This isn't by the central train station. They have a building across from the station so you pay...and then they tell you that you need to walk past other canal cruises to get to their boats to board.
Besides that, this was a fine canal cruise. It is a fairly large boat so you are not going down any small canals. But it's a basic overview of Amsterdam.
You get ear buds and select your language to hear the narration.
