Reviews

This is a really great facility I was reading the bad reviews and was skeptical about the plane went in for a tour to see for myself and everything modernized the folks at the front desk and in the facility are beyond nice the basketball court is nice the pool is nice the locker rooms are nice the weight rooms are nice I can go on and on Def 5 stars for this place!

So much fun!! Don’t know what I was expecting but it was definitely fun, challenging, and a good workout. It was also very educational and combined a lot of surfing skills/techniques with exercises. Will def go again and it was a fun activity for me and my dad to do. Aaron was very engaging and a great instructor!

Equinox Bryant Park is an outstanding gym with top-notch facilities and a fantastic staff. My trainer, Antonio Vidal, is knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely cares about my progress. With his guidance, I’ve seen significant improvements in my fitness. I highly recommend Equinox Bryant Park and Antonio Vidal for anyone looking to elevate their fitness journey.

I love this location. But I only go to Equinox and this location because of my trainer Antonio Vidal. I have a full gym at my apartment building but I go to Equinox because Antonio is an excellent trainer. He is knowledgeable, patient, push my limits without risking it. Antonio is an exceptional young trainer. I also like Molly at the Spa. Her special massage techniques are extremely helpful to alleviate tensions in my muscle.

It's too expensive. Manager was weird. Same as spa patrons. I just quit. Not worth the money.

Mediocre facility that’s accompanied by a terrible staff ; very rude and disrespectful towards my friend and I. Upon our first time there they spread misinformation about the schedule so we didn’t even get to enjoy the activity we had to pay for. I do not recommend this facility at all.

This club constantly has the most watered-down products in the showers, hard to show without videos but these bottles when shaken have the consistency of water (not a thick gel like the normal Kiehl’s products should be).

Really nice gym. Good equipment and love the 8AM yoga class!

Best location!
Sunday, I felt like in equipment sixflags.
Maintainers works hard really appreciate it!
Huge floor, clean, everything is great!!

The staff here is super friendly and this location is doing coat check ins which I love. I do enjoy the pool here! The selection of items at the cafe are not the best. The placement of the towels in the locker room is highly inconvenient. The whole locker room Set up is awkward.

I have been training with Chris for over a year now. When I say he’s the best trainer I’ve had he makes coming to this club so worth. Too bad I had to move but i highly recommend it’s clean the staff were amazing.

Ty was the driving force behind my decision to join Equinox, and I couldn't be happier with that choice. His passion for helping members and the personalized onboarding experience he provided were instrumental in making me feel at home. I genuinely look forward to seeing Ty every time I come to the gym. His positive energy and commitment to excellence truly enhance the overall atmosphere at Equinox. Thank you, Ty, for making my gym experience exceptional!

I used to have classes with carolann Valentino (stacked) Tuesday 12:30 pm and I loved it but for some reason that coach is no longer at that time so I decided to try classes with Emily naim (EQX barre burn)… since the moment I started with her, she was kind of rude. Nothing like the other coach. I really enjoyed the other class but with Emily I didn’t feel welcome. She doesn’t know how to treat people. This gym is not cheap and the reason why I decide to be part of equinox is because of the special treatment in all of the areas. Equinox should reevaluate the idea of having a professional and kind coach. Today I took the class with her and I said hi to here and she ignored me which was okay because I thought maybe she didn’t hear me. Then she gets mad when you stop during the class and she should be aware that not all of us are at the same level as other people. Some of us need more time to adapt and also we can get tired faster. She doesn’t know if I have a condition or something. Then I was trying my best doing abs and I knew I wasn’t doing properly the workout but instead of being nice and explaining me, she decided to treat me bad and make me feel uncomfortable. I asked her for help and she said “stop the excuses” with a rude tone “you need to stop doing that, that is not what I told you to do” “why are you doing that???? Who told you to do that? I didn’t tell you “ in front of the other people.
I really hope that management take care of this situation. We are clients and we deserve respect!!

I like this fitness center nice location and they have all the equipment stuff and clean locker rooms

Best location in NYC. My salesman Ty was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about everything equinox has to offer. Highly recommend anyone looking for a gym in midtown. Work with Ty he will take great care of you from start to finish, he made the sign up process so easy!

Cool gym, love the trainers but the elevator is so slow it makes that sloth that works in the dmv in the movie about animals look like Usain Bolt

Scam!
The salesman for Equinox Bryant Park said I could cancel my membership at any time. But when I found a better gym, the assistant manager at Equinox refused to cancel my account, citing fine print in the 14-page (!) contract that I can't quit without proving I've moved more than 25 miles away.
Due to the salesman's lie, and the company's deceptive business practices, Equinox Bryant Park will defraud me of $2,000.
Avoid Equinox Bryant Park. It's an overpriced gym in a windowless basement. And it is run by lying fraudsters.

Reading the other reviews about friendliness are a tad surprising. Ive been coming to his location for over two years and they never greet you or say hello. They often don’t even look up to acknowledge you or too busy chatting. Even if you say hello to them. What kind of lifestyle hospitality brand allows that? Ive even been asked specifically by management how this location can make member experiences better and that was one example I provided. It sets the tone for every member walking through the door. I don't pay the prices to be treated like I’m not good enough to be apart of the gym. It’s gotten to the point I will go out of my at to go to a different location even though this one is most convenient.

Ilianna is the best trainer I’ve ever had! She taught me workouts for different muscle groups, so that I could graduate and train by myself. Every class, she make me do different machines and free weight workouts, and take videos for me so that I don’t forget.
She also knows a lot about nutrition, so she gave me complimentary diet evaluation. Seeing her being promoted all the way to the tier 3+ trainer makes me happy - she deserves the recognition!

Not crazy about this location. Needs a revamp or something. It looks like it used to be another gym and equinox just slapped their name on it.

Had a horrible check in experience. When I signed up for equinox, I was never asked to take a photo ID. The woman in the front was extremely rude to me when I checked in and a photo ID didn’t show up. Instead of informing me that I didn’t have a picture and asking if I could provide one, she went straight to “I want to see your id”. You might want to train your front desk staff to have a better front desk attitude if we’re paying $250+ for a gym membership
Paying so much money for what?

So, I’ve got a sizzling tale from the sauna for you. It seems every time I head into the steam room to get my glow on, I’ve unintentionally turned it into a flirt fest – and trust me, it’s not my dazzling double-towel look that’s catching eyes!
The mustachioed gentlemen, with their debonair charm, can't resist dropping a line or two. While I’m all for making friends and getting to know fellow members, the steam room might not be the ideal place for that kind of...heated exchange. 😉
I’m all about embracing our fabulous selves and letting our true colors shine, but maybe we could add a pinch of decorum in the sauna? A playful sign, perhaps? “Steam room: Where we keep it hot, but not too hot to trot!”
Keep rocking and let’s keep the steam room saucy in the right ways!
Stay fabulous.

Honestly Antonio Vidal, one of the trainers here, has been ESSENTIAL to my getting in shape. He listened to exactly what I needed and my goals and he pushes me to make progress without making me hate working out. He changes up my routine and he is flexible with my busy schedule. And he always explains why we follow the plan we do instead of just telling me to follow what he says. He knows what he’s talking about and he’s the reason I keep coming back.

It wasn't my first time to enter a gym as a guest pass, but this was the first time for a receptionist to not know that they offered this option. They kept asking questions, then let us wait for the guy who showed us around, who also asked a couple of questions before doing so. Convenient place, but I didn't like the overall vibe of the staff.

Equinox is a distressing place, it's costly, but there is nothing better that investing in yourself for today and for your future. Also open on the weekends.

The cafe is overpriced, the deck is an annoying selfie mall. I walked into a yoga studio to stretch only to find a dude in costume making his own music video. One quiet morning on the deck, some bro was narrating a YouTube clip for his channel without asking anyone if it was cool they were being filmed for the web what in the eff?. Also the pool, track, and deck too often farm part of their space to outside parties and random corporate events. Not worth the increase.

I live in WV but make my way up to the Highline Equinox in Chelsea because it’s never crowded and the staff is so pleasant. The other clubs nearby are all Destination clubs so they cost more too. This is a great hidden gem!

This place is awesome. Pier 62 has indoor basketball courts, soccer fields, gymnastics rooms, etc.
Okay now that that's out of the way, the real reason I am writing this review is I just finished a pickleball league here, and need to write a message to the Fermented Cucumber faithful. I wont be speaking to the media or doing an exit interview, so this will be my final message for the Cuc fans until next season:
First off, I would like to address the rumors head on. Yes, I had about 6-8 Tequila sodas on the yacht before the game on Thursday. After knocking off the #1 seed "It's Kosher" the week prior, I will be the first to admit I took "Dil with the Dinks" lightly, and it showed.
The bigger picture is that I let the newfound fame, money, and success get to me. When you are from where I am from and receive a Brinks truck of money over night, it's hard to not get lost in it. Icarus, who ignored his father's warnings about his wings melting when flying too close to the sun, comes to mind.
The former undisputed middleweight champion of the world Marvin Hagler but it ever-so eloquently when he said "It's difficult to get up and do roadwork at five in the morning when you're sleeping in silk sheets." I lost sight of what got me here, but I promise you, Cuc faithful, I am getting it back. There is a fire in my belly now bigger than I ever could have imagined. I am going to soak in defeat, and really feel this feeling to fan the flame for next season.
Next season for us starts right now. We have a million and one excuses that we could go to. The fact of the matter is we aren't going to make one. The Dinks played better than we did in this series and we still had an opportunity to win it, but it didn't go for us. This offseason, I'm going to push myself to exhaustion to get back here.
I will not sleep until The Alphabet City Fermented Cucumbers are the ZogSports New York City Indoor Pickle Ball Chelsea Piers Thursday night Champions of the World.
As I write this, Drew Zhou and I are on the way to throw out our silk sheets. I will see you in the Fall, Cuc faithful.

Money can’t buy fitness 💅
I have been a member of Crunch for many years, so was excited to try something new.
What a mistake.
Upon entering Equinox High Line, the first thing I noticed was the size of their clientele.
In Crunch, one is often greeted by a range of svelte men in their mid 20s, former college jocks and fitness hungry mums.
Gone was this crowd, replaced instead by the sort of person whose body wobbles every time they do a bench press.
I fear a lot of them had subscribed to the view that, when paying $500 to join plus $250 a month for fitness, the pounds should just magically melt away - even with just one gym visit a week!
Ladies, gentlemen and people of non-specific genders, I am afraid this is not how your body works.
Slightly perturbed, I made my way over to the machines.
Shock, they were EXACTLY the same as the ones in Crunch - with the same layer of icky bacteria on the handles to match.
The rowing machines were fun but, again, same as Crunch.
Carpet was nice and hoovered well, just like Crunch.
Baffled, I began to survey the gym to see what it was actually offering that might justify its ludicrous price tag.
I noticed an ironic fridge filled with scented towels on one side, a nice touch but hardly necessary. They also had edgy taps to dispense water - also nice but not needed.
Confused, I asked a member of staff whether the scents in the towels would somehow make your muscles grow faster. They looked about as confused as I was.
The sauna was nice but, again, hardly merited all the hubbub and chit chat that surrounds it.
If you have a couple of hundred to piss up the wall, then, rather than giving it to this gym, I would suggest you donate it all to a homeless shelter. That might actually make the streets of New York safe enough for that morning run you crave!

The best customer service ever! Emily Finch is super professional! I like that the gym is very close to my office and is not crowded at 4-5. It is worth every penny of its membership price

This gym is still operating on pandemic hours.
M-Thurs they close at 10pm, which means to get a good workout you need to arrive by 830pm at the latest.
Fri they close at 8pm, which means to get a good workout you need to arrive by 630pm at the latest.
Sat-Sun they close at 7pm, which means to get a good workout you need to arrive by 530pm at the latest.
This is unacceptable for NYC. I raised the issue with management and they gave me a bunch of nonsense about assessing demand… blah, blah, blah. Well, you could close at 2pm and you’d observe attendance dropping around 1pm, so spare me the corporate doublespeak.
The hours at this location and the company’s rationale for permanently shortened hours are absurd. This location should return to pre-pandemic closing times of M-Thur 11pm, Fri 10pm, Sat-Sun 9pm.

I was charged over $300 in extra fees because I was assigned to the incorrect sports club (which I never once went to). No one ever mentioned anything about going to the incorrect club any of the times I signed in. I noticed the fees on my credit card statement. These fees were never refunded despite escalating the complaint to management.

I love taking in the view of the Hudson while playing golf. I don't know of any other place where you can enjoy such a great view while you play golf.

I have been a member at CPF for 1 year and I am cancelling my membership. It is a nice facility with a lovely roof deck and equipment, however it is not worth the price point and at times has been a very frustrating experience.
Feedback on my experience -
-The group fitness classes are meh, some are certainly better than others (I loved Juggy's classes and Shenika's) but I had some pretty bad experiences with their group fitness class (one instructor didn't make attempts to connect with regulars who came weekly, one didn't give modification options for exercises like running with a 30 pound bag and was rude to me when I tried to do something else, frequent mic issues, etc.)
-This is my biggest qualm - incredibly difficult to get a hold of people and book sessions. My initial complimentary personal training session they double booked me for, resulting in me starting 30 minutes late. Since then, I have tried to book additional sessions, and every time I call the "FitDesk" who books sessions for you they aren't there. Their process for booking sessions also makes no sense - instead of simply having a master calendar of the trainers' schedules and availability, there is a representative to connect you to the trainer, then you email back and forth with the trainer and the FitDesk representative to find a time (if they even get back to you which I have struggled with), and then it is "booked". To get a hold of the representative like I said is nearly impossible, and some of the trainers are also very difficult to get a hold of to schedule time with once you are connected to them.
-They recently brought in a vendor for food called Canteen, and it is horrible.
-The mobile app is also not great, there is limited functionality
-You get a credit when you join and no one has visibility into how much my credit is (can't find it on my app or in my initial signup email)
-The amenities in the locker room are all unbranded which leads me to believe they aren't very high quality.
-They raised their prices and even before then I was planning to cancel. Its a beautiful space, but does not hold up to the caliber it should for the price.

Incredible & spacious gym! I really appreciate the wide variety of weight machines, friendly staff & all the workout areas this gym offers. I would recommend stopping by if you are in the area!

Pros
- awesome staff! great membership advisors, trainers, group instructors, etc.
- beautiful facilities. locker rooms always clean
- eucalyptus towels
- yoga/pilates studio that overlooks the high line!
Cons
- sometimes the yoga mats can be stinky
- packed during peak hours

Fantastic gym - the space is so spacious, feels like a little getaway in the city. And top of the line instructors.

Excellent! An experience we'll never forget, and one very different from the times we went on other Harbor cruises.
A breath of fresh air in comparison with other, more crowded , NY City tourist attractions.

I’ve been coming to this equinox for 6 years. All of the staff and the regular guests are super friendly, providing a great setting to enjoy your workout.
Gym Memberships have increased all over the city and this location gets fairly busy during prime hours. The property is maintained very well. You’ll find the space very clean and orderly.
The location is super convenient as the area is mostly residential.

Great food and fun golfing 🏌️ with JPM CIB interns.

Extremely disappointed. The AC has not been working for over 2 weeks now. Asked several times about it. They keep saying "we are looking into it" etc. I am sorry, but paying the hefty monthly membership fee to workout at a gym without AC is unacceptable. This is supposed to be "High-end".
Additionally. The hours of operation are the most ridiculous thing I have seen. Weekends closes at 7PM? Wow

Modern, clean, almost well equipped. They close too early at 8 pm when most people arrive home. They also don't have squat machines. I personally do not squat with bars.

Fun place for kids and adults who play sports. Pier 61 has a couple of ice skating rinks.
But it is expensive. The vending machine with chips etc is $2.50 / ea
That is crazy!!

Unacceptable Equinox experience. There were no benches, aging equipment and no towels to be found for more than a half hour. The front desk staff did not seem to care, considering many others in the locker room were complaining. The brand has gone downhill in recent years, clearly cutting corners to cut costs and of course raise prices. Will be considering cancelling until issues are resolved and implore others to think about the same. The beauty of NYC is that there is always another, often better, alternative to most things.

I visited the place again today. It's surprising to find that their operational hours remain unchanged, closing at 7pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, even though the COVID-19 pandemic has long since ended. The maintenance team's presence can be rather overwhelming; it's not uncommon to see vacuum cords haphazardly spread out during peak hours, leading to members often stumbling over them.
An unfortunate incident happened today, where a man was unable to handle the weights on the bench press and dropped them onto his chest. Instead of offering assistance, the maintenance team just vacuumed around him as he grappled with the weights. Thankfully, another member stepped in to assist him. It's disconcerting to realize that the staff here lacks both knowledge and initiative, a combination that could potentially lead to legal troubles for the gym due to their incompetence.
Moreover, it's a regular sight to see members monopolizing multiple machines during peak hours. It's not unheard of for individuals to leave their belongings on up to three machines simultaneously. Management should email members of this gym, reminding them of proper gym etiquette rather than allowing a hostile environment to fester. I’ve seen members get into arguments with each other when a rude member is monopolizing multiple machines during a busy time. To put it bluntly, this gym is far from an ideal workout environment.
The sole reason I frequent this gym is due to its convenience – its location just below my apartment, coupled with the fact that its membership fee is bundled into my rent.

Visiting NYC and our hotel (Mondrian) has a reciprocity agreement with this club. Convenient, clean facility with a solid amount of equipment, and friendly and informative staff. Shout out to AGM Tommy for the welcome and quick gym orientation!

Great gym, very well Equipped, staff is very friendly and it was super clean and organized. Not over crowded so it’s easy to get through a workout without waiting.

I got an e-mail notifying me that my membership had been cancelled. As I wasn't sure about keeping it anyways, I figured that was fine. And then went and joined another gym. Six months later I realized they had nonetheless kept charging me. When I brought it up to them, they refused to refund the $400 they had charged me over that time.
ETA: Re, the response from the owner. I brought it up with the manager of the club, who escalated it to the regional manager. Both of them said they would not refund the money. They're aware of what they're doing wrong. They simply prefer to keep the money than to remedy it. "Great customer service" means being polite, as long as it doesn't cost them anything. Even when they had no real right to the money in the first place.

Very surprised that there were no clean towels available this evening. 3rd time this has happened in the last 3 times I've gone here. Not what I've come to expect from Equinox. Members waiting to take a shower...no towels. Had to use little face towels to dry off. The clients expect to find clean, dry bath towels when it's time to shower. Maintenance staff should be proactive

Just signed up today with Tommy. Very helpful and transparent with costs and what comes with the membership. The location is on the quieter side and well maintained. Highly recommend for those that are looking for a gym that has a good selection of equipment and multiple locations throughout the city.

Always a fantastic workout experience when I go to the High Line location - I love the open concept of the weights area and the spaciousness of the locker room. Also, the yoga and Pilates studio upstairs have amazing views of the high line and all of the instructors I’ve had were top notch. Will return every time I’m in the area!!

Not impressed at all, especially with the price increase and overall excessive greedy business model. Management here must think up new and consistent ways of fleecing the membership out of more money annually. For me the size of the facility seems excessive and wasted. The boxing area is very open and desolate. A few bags and a ring which seems pointless aside from the less than stellar classes. These fitness based classes are tiresome and really are not unique compared to less costly venues and gyms. Many of the trainers recycle through these and are often at the lower tier gyms. So the routines and exercises are the same. Way pay more? The place has a bit of a bourgeoise attitude, especially from staff at times.

Was a bit weary about hitting this Equinox given the reviews. But after a couple visits, not sure what they were referring to
Steam room in men’s locker room works great. Clean too
Group classes have been solid so far, space is fitted out proper
Staff have all been very friendly too
It’s not the biggest Equinox but also not the smallest. Gets the job done and then some. Great strength area and also yoga studio upstairs
Thankful it’s legit since it’s the closest one to me - will be going back nearly daily

The facility is in itself monstrous in comparison to other franchise based gyms. In this regard it inspires admiration. However, it terms of the daily protocols established by an inept and rapacious management, I will refrain from offering much praise. The increase is membership rates and charges is unwarranted. This is excessive and screams of predatory practices to increase the bottom line. The classes offered are a hit and miss. Coming from a combat background with extensive experience I have to say many fitness routines and instruction is less then desirable or optimal. For boxing, fitness is fine but this trend will hopefully decline as it is an contradictory to the sport. Go to a real boxing gym in the city for equal levels of fitness with realism and application as well as much needs competition. This drives your inner incentive to better oneself. Not doing mindless derivative exercises based on HIIT or pseudo contact drills. the lockers could use more upkeep. Numerous occasions I was unable to find suitably clean linen or towels. Also the hours of operation need to reflect the sleepless nature of which this city in accustomed. After all, I think the members are paying enough in fees.

This place is amazing! The workout is so fun even if you're not into surfing but also gives you great technique for actual surfing. The instructor Aaron is very nice and gives a lot of attention to each student. Highly recommend!

Missing equipment, not enough equipment; the story of every equinox you’ll ever go to. Catered too much towards the workout class folk and people with $ to spend on personal trainers. Only 3 squat racks, no hack squat, only 2 lat pull down cable machines, no standing calf machine, etc.

Nothing but good things to say about the staff and cleanliness of this location but the steam room rarely works. I emailed the Director asking when this problem will be fixed but never heard back. Will be cancelling my membership and moving to Lifetime.

With zero experience of surfing, this class was a great intro to what surfing would be like! The instructor Aaron was very friendly, well-versed in his expertise as demonstrated by his detailed explanations and made sure everyone was on the same page. By the end of the class, I felt physically stronger (and exhausted, quite the work out) and open to the idea of trying to surf at a wave pool sometime soon :D

By far the best gym I have ever been to in Manhattan! Immaculate facilities, tons of equipment, extraordinarily well-kept and fresh-looking locker room with an excellent sauna and steam room.
However, what sets this place apart from the rest is the atmosphere and environment in the gym. It’s light and airy, with high ceilings and windows that let in tons of natural light, looking out to the river. Since it’s on a pier, you can even see the Statue of Liberty down the bay. It motivates me to come back every day.
The sheer amount of activities here is mind-blowing, from the indoor track, boxing ring, volleyball, basketball, and pool. Even the stretching area is excellent, with the artificial turf.
The cafe seating area can double as a coworking space with Wi-Fi and views looking south down the river. The coffee in the cafe is even good!
They also offer a private locked bike storage area in the garage included in the membership.
I can not say enough good things about this gym.

Extremely disappointed in this location. First off, I never see anyone cleaning and its always packed. I used to go to the Long Island location and honestly thought the quality of the city locations would be equal if not better. Wrong! I asked to hang up my coat-they said I need to pay $50/month for a locker. Is this a joke? I pay 300/month for an all access membership and see the trainers 5x a week. One of the elevators also just doesn't work and we were trapped in it for a bit. I told the desk and they were like "yeah we know." Shut the elevator off like really. The equipment is also very old and the trainers are ok at most. Watch the clock-within the span of 2 weeks, they tried to cut me on time 3x with one trying to end as much as 15 minutes early. Had I not advocated for myself, the session would have just ended. At one point, I was made fun of by another member (a 50 year old man) for wearing my casual polo shirt as workout attire-like really what are we 5 years old. Will not be renewing that's for sure
EDIT: The last couple of weeks have been a lot better. It's not even remotely as crowded. Have had better experiences with the trainers etc. Hopefully things trend towards a better direction permanently. Supposedly, there's a new manager who's very on top of things.

I cancelled my membership in August since I relocated and the staff confirmed it. Two months later my card has been billed $700. I rang in and was told it hadn’t been cancelled but they would do so and refund me if I provide proof of relocation which I did. Two weeks later no response or refund so I presume I’ll be charged another $300. Was thinking of rejoining when I returned but no way!

This Pier has a combination of Piers, you can organize the best wedding and any event here. The Staff are well-trained, friendly and welcoming. This is kind of located on the Hudson River and you will see different types of Ships here.

I had so much fun! I signed up for the beginner's class and had a blast. It wasn't very difficult. Our instructor was amazing. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to try something new and different.

I REALLY DO LIKE THIS FITNESS CENTER, THEY HAVE SOME EXTRA EXCLUSIVE EQUIPMENT , THAT I LIKE SUCH AS THE SUPER SQUAT , THEY HAVE A HIP THRUST MACHINE THAT HAS A DEEP ARCH IN IT, PLUS THEIR WEIGHTS ARE IRON, LOVE I ENJOYED THE LOCATION AND THE FRONT DESK REPRESENTATIVE DAMIEN WAS VERY NICE...

It’s impossible to cancel a membership. They leech off of you until they can’t anymore. Don’t do the mistake I did and make sure your membership is actually canceled after you cancel it. The best thing you can do is canceling your credit card.
Edit: I don’t even know they want me to contact them. It’s not like you are going to pay me back or anything. You can look up my name in your system and see.

It's definitely the best location for anyone who wants to have a single access membership at Equinox in the midtown area.
It's clean, somewhat spacious and a nice gym to workout. Although it can get crowded, you won't have to wait to use an equipment.
The one bad thing is that they're closed during the weekends. I'm not sure if they're going to open back up during the weekends but definitely keep that in mind.

This place is really cool, really fun. I was invited to the driving range today. Got to whack some balls. The tee sets the ball itself, I just swung over and over again. Even felt myself improving over the 2 hour period.
Overlooking the Hudson, laughing and enjoying the easy vibes. Felt like a nice getaway even though I was still in the heart of the city. Definitely will return soon

To put things in perspective, I have the all access membership and this rating is me, comparing the club to the others. There’s nothing luxury about this club. Had a strong nysc vibe. Shower handles are lose, walls looked outdated, steam room was out of service, many machines were out… the list goes on. Oh, and it’s weirdly located on the second floor of a sketchy building. Definitely not worth the money.

Really average gym, and abysmal hours (shortening the hours during the busiest season, really?). Thinks they can charge the premium just for the name, but they’re going to have to update this location or risk losing customers. Only upside is great front desk staff

We were at the Arlo Soho rooftop location, and WOW was this cool! I thought it would be an easy workout, but it challenged muscles I haven't used in ages and struck the perfect balance between tough workout and fun experience. Put that quality workout on the roof of a cool hotel on a beautiful morning, and Surfset has the perfect recipe for success. The surfboards are connected to a set of rubber balls and elastic straps that mimic the stability of a surfboard in water.
This is a small, family-owned business, and one of the owners was our instructor. He was not only a great teacher but a nice guy, and even someone like me (with no real surfing history) interested in the sport.
They also do trips out to Long Beach for real surfing in the ocean, as well as to the wave pool at the 'American Dream' mall in NJ, which makes surfing accessible even to folks who aren't great swimmers.
Finally, the owner let us know that you can purchase packages from them and split the package between friends (something hardly anybody in NYC does anymore).
I can't recommend Surfset enough. I will definitely be coming back!

The location is clean, well attended, and I’ve always had the equipment I wanted when I wanted it — I’ve never been waiting for others to finish.
And, they’ve got excellent trainers — if you get a chance, ask for Josh and Joaquin. They are some of the most knowledgeable and skilled trainers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

This place went so downhill, despite all their reconstruction and “upgrades”.
Given this location is now a destination club, they could at least listen to their members feedback sometimes & actually improve few simple things. Such as:
Have face wash available by the sinks - that antibacterial soap in the dispenser is soo harsh and ultra drying!!! It’s making things worse, by compromising the skin barrier, this is well known fact..
Clean the water fountains!!! I would never ever refill my water bottle in any of these (across ALL EQ locations!), as they are gross, covered in mildew and no one cares!!! Mentioned this multiple times, with no effect
Actually clean the mats with disinfectant after classes…you know how many times I’ve seen the cleaning staff to roll up sweaty mats and put them neatly back on the shelf?? They yet replaced the ones that are used in group fitness studio, and those can’t be rolled up, thank god
The music in classes is soo obnoxiously loud, most instructors turn it up to unhealthy levels (above 90db, as per my Apple Watch)

Barebones. Didnt have the luxury feel of most Equinox gyms.
Gets the job done. The locker rooms look better than the actual gym.
Staff walked all around the gym, I was greeted or approached by no-one.
The elevator is SLOOOOW ... like I didnt even know I was moving. But thats on me for taking the elevator at the gym I guess LOL.
Gets the job done in a pinch for the finance bros, but not for me.

I extremely recommend this gym. Super clean and safe environment to workout and following all protocols to stay healthy and safe. All the equipment and work out areas are clean and brand new and renovated.

I saw James last year for my debilitating sciatica pain. At my first appointment I was impressed by his incredible attentiveness and empathy. At every turn, he explained what he was doing and why. I soon discovered that his skills and knowledge were of equal proportions to his watchfulness. Trust is not an easy thing for me, especially when it comes to my body, but he quickly gained my confidence. He really cared about my situation and approached my problem holistically. He is a deep reservoir of knowledge, who understands the mind-body-nutritional connection. During our past year of working together I am on a much better path to long term health. My sciatica pain has been completely manageable for many months, and he is currently advising me on ways to strengthen my body so I can live a longer, happier, pain-free life. Simply put, James is one of those professionals that takes the guesswork out. He makes it easy, because all one has to do is listen.

There is a parking garage. I went on a dinner cruise and Chelsea Piers was a great place to take a taxi to and from the pier. A great place for indoor and outdoor recreation. A beautiful clean place to take pictures and enjoy the scenic view of the river.

Beautiful clean, airy studio owned by the sweetest couple. I fell in love hard from the first class I took. It's super challenging and incredibly fun. There aren't many workouts that have you leaving sweaty, strong and with the biggest smile on your face. There are even one day surf retreats in the summer! The aloha vibes are REAL here!

A bit on the pricey side but totally worth it. Have loads of good promotions all the time. Love going to this gym. High quality classes too.

James was a life saver. As a professional dancer who recently moved to the city, I had been looking for someone to add to my team of specialists to keep my body in a good place. Every time I have called him with a crisis physically he has done his best to fit me in the day I call, and prioritizes my physical health. Not only is James dependable, he also works magic. I have come to him with several issues, and each time he has ensured I am walking out of the room feeling better. I have come to him with back issues, knee issues, pulled hamstrings, etc.. As a dancer, I am very particular with whom I work with and James is my go-to here in New York for sure!

I had a great time at the beginners class. This is a unique fitness class. Combining surfing maneuvers with cardio and strengthening made the experience very enjoyable. Diana is a wonderful instructor! She clearly explains each move and motivates us along the way while doing every exercise along with us. I will definitely be coming back!

Honestly had a ton of fun. I was definitely worried coming into the class (especially balance-wise) but left signing up for the summer list to surf 😄 Lauren was an awesome teacher, and the class was very encouraging

I visited this location and left disappointed. Although the staff was VERY nice the gym itself was not. There are very little windows, some machines were out of order (stair master, rowing machine), treadmills did not quickly change to the speed desired, mirrors near the stretching areas don’t go all the way down to the floor and there is no spin room. And finally, the locker room looked dirty and outdated (Wallpaper falling off, holes in the wall) it needs to be renovated ASAP.

I’ve been seeing James for rheumatoid arthritis pain the past two months, and he has been extraordinarily effective. Yes, he’s expensive, but I have seen dramatic improvement in the way my body feels, and he has developed a targeted exercise program which allows me to continue to build strength and flexibility and to decrease joint pain. James is a caring, compassionate professional, extremely skilled at body work, and he's totally attuned to the person he's working with. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He’s simply phenomenal.

25yard swimming pool, 3 lanes. Unfortunately the water is pretty murky, doesnt make the best impression. The life guards only sit around and dont help to enforce a bit swim etiquette or mediate for lane sharing the way they do it on the UES.
Rest of gym has natural light, its not newish but also not too dated yet.

It is UNSAFE, UNREASONABLE & OVER CROWED
I haven been swimming here over a year and loved it very much, but since the beginning of 2019, they rescheduled their slots and put “master swimming” class in open swimming hours.
The direct result is HALF of the pool is taken by the class, with 2 students in each line and the rest of us crowed into the rest 3 lines (including one non-lap line) with 5-6 people in each line. We crumble and crush to each other and could barely swim.
I understand if the pool try to earn more money, but it should not build up on harming customers’ benefit and risking their safety.
Plus, the slot before opening swim is entitled “private rental”, isn’t it made to rent to coaches and swimming classes? Why isn’t the class paying the rent? Because they make other customers to pay it for them!!!!!!!
This is unreasonable robbery in disguised form!!!!!!!

After years of struggling with chronic headaches, and trying countless therapies, I finally found my way to James -- and I'm so grateful that I did. James is an incredibly talented and deeply knowledgeable massage therapist, and has provided an entirely new framework for me to understand my pain and approach self-healing. For the first time in a long time, I feel significant improvement. What's more, I feel empowered by what I am learning. Highly recommended!

Love to go swimming here with the family on weekends. The water can be a little chilly, but for $10 for a whole family, who’s complaining? They have plenty of kick boards and pool noodles to enjoy, too, and after having had lessons at another pool, my kids have gotten better at swimming just by coming to open swim here and having fun!

In NYC we are so desperate fore functioning public places, especially swimming pools that I have to rate this pool five stars for being "dynamite." Here is why:
+ easily accessible by NYC Ferry
+ the facilities are dated (especially the lockers in the changing rooms), but clean and functional
+ the moderate yearly membership fee guarantees a respectful and civilized atmosphere
+ very diverse crowds including retirees and many Asian families living on Rosevelt Island
+ good etiquette when people are sharing lanes
- very limited opening hours, reopens on weekday evenings only at 7pm :(
- very limited number of courses at the in-house gym. Couldn't the gym be given to local personal trainers for free which could then use the facilities to offer some fee-based classes?

Babysitting during the weekdays especially is unreliable. Came here for a class with expectations of babysitting being available and the babysitter wasn’t there despite me calling in advance. If this service is so unreliable, it shouldn’t even be offered. With all the rate increases, management should be better on this front.

Love this pool in Roosevelt Island ,clean the staff is freindly and it is not overcrowded.

I had a recovery plan. After the plan fell apart a good friend recommended James. I'm recovering from skin removal surgery after a 225lb weight loss. I have 70 inches of scarring on my 5' tall self. Every week I have unique experiences with my body. James has become a navigator as I pilot my recovery journey. He creates an ideal environment for healing. He listens, really listens to your words and your body. His voice is calming, his energy is comforting, and his heart is genuine.
My treatment plan includes yoga, massage, myofascial release, skin rolling and pain management. James has magic hands and is a gifted healer. He understands the relationship between body, mind and spirit. He is passionate about healing and living pain free. James is an amazing teacher. He is generous with knowledge and communicating his experiences. I can assist in my recovery in total confidence because of his guidance. No matter how intense my session is I leave feeling relaxed and satisfied. Peace of mind is priceless and having James as part of my recovery plan provides a stress free road ahead. I'm forever grateful.

There are times in life when people arrive at just the right moment. James is one of those people. I was suffering from a 'frozen shoulder' for over a month that was caused by anxiety, stress, and over-work. The pain severely restricted my movement and further deepened my depression. I found James after carefully researching options in New York that most resembled Zentherapy, a mixed healing practice that I spent the last ten years following back in the Bay Area. It was very clear from the get-go that time with James was not going to be like any other body work session. Before he even worked on me, we spent time talking about my condition, pain, challenges, and what I hoped to get out of my sessions. It was, during that first conversation, that I realized what a strong healing and calming presence James has. At that moment, I was so relieved to have found someone that I could share my story with and know that he only has my well-being at heart. He crafted a program for me that has served as the catalyst in my effort to re-learn a balance between mind, body, and spirit. I've had numerous sessions with James and his trigger point technique is excellent. With his help, I'm also learning what it's like to open my energy pathways and in particular release long-held pain through his vocalized sound therapy technique. I went in to have a 'frozen shoulder' fixed and received so much more in return. I highly recommend James for anyone who understands that true holistic healing requires an approach that only experience and wisdom can bring.

I love this Equinox on 54tg street!
One of the reasons is the super cool and professional instructor - Steve Feinberg who train Speedball and Shadow do classes which are great!
The staff is great and very helping. The whole place is always clean and fresh - showers included!
You can get a worm or cold towel if you'd like.
There's a huge group fitness classes selection and the instructors are highly qualified.
Membership is required.

This equinox is really nice and not too crowded. The gym is narrow and on four floors, so you'll be doing a lot of stairs - but c'est la vie. Locker rooms are in the basement, and then you have the registration desk on the ground floor and the spa on the first floor, so it's a bit of a hike to get to the gyms, but I can't imagine another configuration. locker rooms can get crowded, but it's kept very clean. machines are in good order, and the lines to use weights are light to non existent. I can always find a machine to work on.

The hands of a poet, the mind of a healer.
I have sought the services of James for more than 9 years. Simply put, he is the best massage therapist I have ever met. I have only praise for his professionalism, his kindness in assessing the work to be done, his attentive touch, his overall manner during our sessions. It may be that James is also an accomplished musician: all I can say is that he made music of the knots, the stiffnesses, the tiredness on my bones. I wholeheartedly recommend James; he is worth every penny and your body will thank you for days afterward.

I’m so incredibly grateful for James. I didn’t quite realize just how much pain I had been suffering until after our first session and I began to feel better.
James provides so much more than massage, he is an incredibly gifted teacher. Even from our first conversation, I realized that he was someone truly special, when he said we would work together to “get ahead of the pain, rather than always chasing after it” and he has remained true to that promise ever since. He has taken the time to pass on his in depth knowledge of anatomy and muscle physiology so that I can learn how to get benefit beyond our sessions with the exercises and stretches that he teaches.
He has also shown such incredible kindness and compassion, looking to connect on an emotional level to provide a comprehensive healing environment unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m confident that the profound changes I’ve begun to experience after a few sessions with James are only a signal of what to expect in the future.
