Chania in November? Wonderful at Pallas.
Great food.
Great wine.
Great service.
Less crowds - still couldn't get in downstairs as it is that popular. Upstairs was perfect
Special mention to Christos

Grandiose atmosphere inside.

We bought pastries at the shop next door (wich is part of the same company).
Pastries were an absolute delight.
And the coffee was something I've never tried before.
A little treat by the Harbour to leave a great memory.

Thanks.

We made a reservation at 6:30pm for the rooftop and we were not disappointed. The service was attentive, the food portion and taste was amazing, the view was gorgeous, the cocktails were crafted well.
We ordered:
- peanut rum fashioned: 4/5 - missing orange bitter flavour from an old fashioned, but it was crafted well
- gin: 5/5 - perfect balance between sweetness and tartness
- beef tartare: 5/5 - an extra gamey flavour from the goat cheese, richness from the bone marrow. Large portions.
- Slow cooked lamb shank with aubergine puree: 5/5 - tender and flavour is infused throughout. The puree went really well with the lamb.
- Tagliatelle with prawns and asparagus: 5/5 - the prawns are fresh and large. The mussel infused flavours for the pasta, which was perfectly cooked, bring the dish together in a seafood medley.
The prices are a bit higher than local restaurants, but overall counting the view, the careful preparation, the craftsmanship, the service, we actually find the price really reasonable. We would highly recommend this place for a romantic sunset or a simple night of culinary excursion.

Can't ask for better service! The server was thorough in explaining every dish and gave very solid recommendations. I really appreciate his kind help in selecting a very representative assortment of dishes for my first meal in Chania.

Probably the best place to have a meal in Chania. I came here for my first and last meal, and I was absolutely floored by how tasty and soulful their food is.

I recommend the meatball soup, fish soup (these were easily the best I’ve had anywhere), mousaka, octopus with mashed potatoes, and okra.

Service is great. They show and tell you all the dishes before you order.

Delicious food. Incredible view. Excellent price. And they even gave us a little bottle of local alcohol on the house. 5 star.

FABULOUS fish and salad. My fish was so good I wish I'd ordered two. Lovely views of the water and al fresco dining. Our waiter was smooth, lol. Nice guy who convinced us to come in and try the food and we're so glad we did. Everything we got was very reasonably priced and tasty. Our waiter recommended the gray snapper and it was totally deeeelish! Highly recommend.
I may still be in the Tamam restaurant as I write this. There is a reason why there's a throng of people trying to snag a table.
The bread brought out to start was accompanied by a delicious tapenade that I'm trying to stop eating as I am so full. We shared the Iitáka Kaioapiaş/ Pastrami pies, the Eayavåkı pe tadayảvı oe Kpoủora pouvtoUKLoü/ Fried «Talagani" cheese in hazelnut crust, and the IIoaitikn Tapån/Politiki Tamam. The fig jam that came with the fried cheese was so good, I'm eating it with a spoon.
The servers are hustling across the narrow street, between the buildings. Do not miss this restaurant!

Worst “dining” experience ever. Bottle of expensive house wine opened and poured before we saw a menu. The guy is a huckster and the restaurant is a front to scam tourists. Food mediocre. Prices outrageous. DO NOT GO NEAR THIS PLACE!

I ordered the dinner special, which comes with salad, grilled fish and dessert for 17 euro. A good value indeed, unfortunately the food doesn't live up to my expectations. The fish is fresh but under-grilled and wasn't properly marinated, the fish skin is still too tender to be eat properly, and the meat tastes rather bland. As comparison, I had another grilled fish at Kosmos Fish Tavern in Moni village the next day, it was properly seasoned and grilled to perfection, the difference is night and day. The service at this place also leaves a lot to be desired. I waited 30 minutes after finishing the main course, and nobody cares to bring my dessert.

Magnificent place for dinner with a killer view from the rooftop.
Booked a table 2 days before and everything was great: the service, the food, the view. The restaurant has a good variety of meat dishes and very nice starters and wines.
Our waiter had great recommendations and was always smiling and attending to our needs.
Totally recommended!
Excellent moussaka! Decent prices. Very efficient and quick service. Busy atmosphere; as a result, it's not a romantic vibe, but a place to go for delicious flavors. We enjoyed our meal very much.

The view is amazing (only a bit annoying if you don’t get a table that is at the front on the rooftop or downstairs). The food was also very good (especially the starters), we had the calamari and octopus as starters (large portions, especially for the octopus) and the lamb and chicken as mains (the chicken was a bit dry). The staff was very nice

If I could give them zero, I would! Food is terrible, prices are shameless! We paid 74 euros for plate of meat for two, 1dl or white wine, and one bear. I don't know why we didn't googled it before, as we usually do. Please don't be a fool as we did!

This place is in very good location, and the atmosphere is unique as most of the restaurants in the port.
Their food is also extremely good, for breakfast/Brunch and for lunch as well!
What I think they need to focus more is their operations. It seems they are not efficient at all. They have plenty of staff but they don’t organize them at all. It took ages for them to come to the table, they weren’t attentive at all. They really need to clarify some operating processes.
Otherwise it def deserves a visit.
🏆 value for money- quality food.
Got pushed in by false promises and the typical sleazy sales pitch by the frontman. I knew in my gut that we should walk away the moment he started selling the place that hard, but I digress. Sat down and realized that we are in a tourist trap - no tablecloths, no salt or olive oil on the table. Service was sluggish, dishes were subpar and extremely overpriced, compared to other places, no water or bread compliment during the meal and watered down drinks that came straight from a tap and not from bottles. End of meal compliment was a shot of low quality Raki Raki that smelled awful. Waiters smoked cigarettes while serving, the place was dirty and the WC was both extremely dirty and from a previous century. Stay away from this dump, it puts a giant stain on the otherwise marvelous Old Harbor area.
Tourist trap - Enticed in by a pushy front man - dreadful experience, poor service and poor food. Dirty cutlery, waiter smoking inside, sticky table. We only stayed for a starter. So many better places to go along the harbour.

Came here by way of local referral and it was initially great. When I walked in, one of the servers personally removed the lid from every pot (specials) to show me the dish. Everything is made fresh, same day. They start at lunch. Even though I arrived around 2pm, some of the specials were already sold out.

I esp liked the quinoa salad with avocado and feta (amazing flavors), fish stew and veggies lasagna. I didn't care for the spinach with rice or the vine leaves stuffed with rice. Both seemed to be lacking something. Rose wine (served in small glass, carafe may be better) was good with the meal.

Servers are extremely busy and move fast. They were nice but not very attentive after I placed my order. I had to keep stopping them and asking for help. One male server just came and removed a chair from my table, without speaking a word or acknowledging that I was sitting there. Felt very rude and dismissive. They are busy running around but not really paying attention.

They also allow dogs inside as well.

Small shop with large lunch crowd. Authentic fresh food from a relatively small kitchen. Servers could use some TLC throughout the whole meal, not just the ordering.

The owner of the restaurant lured us into his restaurant. He tricked us to order drinks before we even had a chance to look at the menu. After seeing the horrendous prices and hearing a conversation where they talked a couple into a fish plate for 69€ we decided to not eat there. He obviously didn’t like this and tried to convince us to order. In the end we payed 13€ for a coke and a small glass of house wine. So we can’t rate the food.
One star is for a nice Ambiente and because you can’t give none.

Honestly nothing special. We were expecting much bigger portions for the price we paid. Fries/potatoes were tasteless (no salt or seasoning) which are not on the menu and cost 5€. Grilled sardines 9.50€ (tiny portion) have no salad or side. Chicken souvlaki 12.50€ with old and hard pitta bread. Compare with prices/portions in Rethymno town this is tourist trap 😞
I only had a salad, and it was excellent! Service was fast, although the servers seemed quite stressed. Perhaps, rightly so.
Do not attend this restaurant, we were pressured in by the guys on the door. Service was VERY slow, the waiters would look at you several times and just continue to ignore you. The food quality was not appalling but quite bland. For the price you pay, it was poor. The main issue with the food is the portions - the €18 chicken in white wine sauce ‘special’ was the size of a kids portion. AVOID

No words can describe how divine this place is. Food is delicious, the service is impeccable and the view..oh my! You have to visit it! Either for yummy brunch or for sunset cocktails.. it's an absolute must!!
We were told about this place as a great spot in Chania.

We ordered a mix starter to share which was tasty but everything on the platter was fried and a bit heavy to digest afterwards.

We then ordered the octopus and rice which was ok but not the best octopus I ever tasted in my life - you could tell that it was frozen before.

Finally we had the rabbit with mash potatoes, tasty yet very heavy flavoured (loads of cinnamon) with spices.

The starters and the rabbit were average, avoid the octopus.

Portions are generous.

The ambience on the other hand is delightful, very cozy and historical! The location used to be a Turkish Hammam and it is very clear in its layout!

Overall 7/10.

Best to keep it light and don’t order too much!

Almost food poisoned 🤮...the shame of Chania!
Astronomical prices for the worst food i've ever had. Menu with no prices on dispaly, suspicious taste and smell, like old expired fish 🤮
If you fall in the trap, ask to talk with the manager or call the police, don't be intimidated by the waiters.
Water - 3 euro (other taverns offers for free)
House Wine - 24€ (other taverns - 6€)
Fish plateau - 69€!!! (other taverns - 40€) - half of the fish and shrimps were eatable but no taste, the other half of plateau was spongy and uncooked. Calamari and octopus - horrible taste, afraid to eat.
Greek salad - small and dry, with absolutely no olive oil -9€
Service - 3€ (what a joke🤣)

In total 108 euro which I refused to pay.
We settled to 85 and leaved, because it was my fault from the beginning when I saw the menus with no price and decided to stay.

AVOID. This is a scam. Crooks.

'Large' beer is a 1L boot full of warm stale beer that costs 11 euro. Food is terrible, chicken very very dry. I would not feel comfortable eating here again.

Most expensive meal we had in Crete and definitely the worst food/service.
We used to go to Tamam when we were students there. They offer special dishes for the standards of the city. The food was tasty and the service really good and fast. Although the restaurant was full and there were reservations,we sat quite fast and we served fast. Mr. Vasilis was super friendly! Totally recommend it!

We chose to eat here because they had specific vegan options on the menu, and also the setting was quite beautiful.

We arrived just before another couple, but I swear the other couple were some kind of Greek mafia and so they seated their friends outside. No big deal, I don't mind sitting inside but don't lie and tell me they reserved when they literally said they hadn't.

Food was delicious - zucchini flower vine leaves were a highlight, and the vegan moussaka was great.

When we ordered, the waiter couldn't even look at us... was literally looking elsewhere, that we had no idea if he was listening.

Waited ages to get the bill. Waited ages to pay the bill. He finally comes by to take payment, and for once I'm not offered the opportunity to tip - he couldn't wait to get rid of us! So much so, he actually threw the receipt at us with barely a thanks.

We were excited at the chance to visit again whilst we are here because we enjoyed the food. but honestly the attitude of staff was so bad I wouldn't visit again. Such a shame.

A very pretty restaurant. It is in the centre of the old town, but its yard is hidden behind a wall, making it easy to miss. This results in the restaurant usually being quiet and serene, unaffected by the huge crowds that visit Chania every summer. The decorations were beautiful, enhancing the good atmosphere. The food was delicious, both the Gemista and the Boureki (which is a dish traditional to Chania) are great choices. Prices are fair for the area. The service was friendly and very quick. Thanks a lot!

If you’re reading this review while at a table of this « restaurant » : RUN NOW!!!! This place is a tourist trap. The waiter seemed really nice when we arrived « I’m gonna give you a romantic table ect.. you a cute couple ect… » and then they immediatly gave us a menu with pictures but any prices!!! Strange. He insists on taking our order but we feel pressed so we say we only want to drink first : big change of attitude of the waiter!!! Distant and cold. I decide to watch the reviews on Google and then… PANIC ATTACK. I understand we have to run and that we should’nt eat here. We order a big beer (since we are in Crete big = 500ml) here they bring us a 1L bier each in a big boot glass (you have to be thristy!!!). They are really pushing you to consume. So we tried to drink it entirely (we couldn’t) in order to go without ordering food. I ask for the bill: again change of attitude of the waiter. He’ starting to be rude and disrespectful. Bill is 22€ (11€ each bier which is expansive here) and payement only in cash (which isn’t written anywhere!!!) I insist to pay in card since I don’t have cash. I even open my bag and he looks into it!! Then, realising I’m not lying he says that we can pay in cash only for 30€ and above. Again, pushing us to consume!! I insist and then he let us go to the cashier woman (without saying goodbye or anything) and then big surprise we can pay in card!!! How surprising that he was trying to swindle us. Not to mention the « ticket » that they gave us as a bill which is just a written piece of paper so honestly you’re not sure to pay the right price. Maybe depends on the customer??? Anyway we managed to run and to go to a much better taverna after this terrible experience!!! Please be careful and don’t go here. There are much better places in the same streets as this place. Don’t waste your time and money! 🤬

The food was really good as well as the prices but we waited 30 minutes for desserts (we had to ask for it) even though it wasn’t busy. The turned on the fans only after most tables were taken.
This is the best place to actually eat greek traditional cuisine. The food here isn't what is offered in the tourist-traps or your typical things you'll find everywhere. There is also such options, but I don't recommend it. The daily things they do here - they will explain to you - are VERY tasty and really feel home-made. You don't come in here and wait for a menu. You ask what's been cooked. A very strange place for a tourist, but I loved it. Many locals eat here. Everything I had was good and a lot. I recommend the Zuccini pie. We got a raki as complimentary, and rakia happens to be also Bulgarians national drink and we loved it! 💯

WORST MEAL AND EXPERIENCE WE’VE EVER HAD!!!!!! Rude waiters who pressured us to order a drink so quickly. Warm and flat champagne.. which they put ice cubes in.. beer was flat. Pressured us into ordering off the printed out picture menu.. no price. The food was disgusting and had a horrible smell to it. The place was unclean! Worst 100 euros we’ve ever wasted! Unfortunately awful experience for us.

Food is overpriced and not tasty. One of our fish fillet was even uncooked and chewy.
Portions were small, Greek salad tasted like water.
Tzatziki wasn’t fresh.
It the first time we get a Coca Cola in a small beer chop (because it’s “pressure” said the waiter) and it costs 3.5 euros.

But the worst was the service.
At first, friendly. But when the bill came, we were charged 2x1.50 euros for bread we didn’t ask and eat.
When we spoke about it with the waiter he said it was service taxe and old chania city’s rule.
We remained calm and said that was the first time we heard this here.
He became rude and told us to check with their manager.
We waited and the owner (who serve us too) came we spoke with him. He told us in all Greece they do this. We said no, we were here for weeks now.
He finally said ok and let it go.

We were scandalized to read the comments afterwards and wish we would have checked before.
Avoid this place. Many other restaurants are great there.

Shocking. Gordon Ramsay would have a field day with these crooks. Warm beer, terrible food. Overpriced tat. Then they have the audacity to add extras into the bill!

We came twice. Romantic alley restaurant with possible crumbled tiny stones falling from the wall😃.

Food is great:
The food is amazing - beautifully presented (even bread) and unique combination. I love the Octopus Cappacio. Grilled Cuttlefish has a unique combi. Even the Greek Salad has great flavour.

Service:
However, the one staff has a mood! He asked for tip when we paid by card. This is unpleasant. If you don't give tip, he won't smile and ignore when you leave. Also unhappy to serve. Always so grumpy, better stay away from customer service. Only a staff is always kind and smiling to customers. Then we add cash tip later, all changes. A bottle of water is served upon arrival, that cost 1.50 eu. I do not appreciate things served without ordering and cost money. It makes us feel being fooled. I hope to be served by the smiling staff so i can dine w/o stress.
Everything was amazingly good, well cooked. We had:
- meatballs with cheese sauce
- stuffed tomato and pepper with rice
- lamb chips
- tamam burger

Goodiessss❤️❤️❤️
Thank You

Ah i would Have liked photos in the menu.. would Have sped up the order process, but eh. They mase up with the taste and generous portions

All the possible scams you can experience in a restaurant. The prices are ridiculous. Food is overpriced. Waiters were rude. And the worse of all was the bill. They would add extra stuff you don't ask for. They even write it by hand and in Greek with some horrible handwriting that you can't even understand. And even add items to the bill that don't even make sense in order to increase the bill. And when I wanted to ask about the questionable things on the bill they ignored. And when I finally got an answer it was just "plates, bread, everything". ABSOLUTE SCAM!
Tamam’s food and service were top notch. Best Greek/ottoman food I’ve ever had. The rabbit and the variety of starters were to die for and the little recipe book we bought was a little gem! Atmosphere could be better compared to some of the local Greek restaurants nearby but once you try their food that’s easily forgotten. Would 110% go back again if in Chania

After returning for lunch after my last visit a few years ago this place was just as great as I remember it being. Extremely reasonable prices and fantastic authentic food in large portion sizes. We ordered three dishes between two and struggled to finish but the quality of the food is out of this world! Additionally the free desert and bread was beautiful! Overall fantastic service and home cooking styled delicious food. I will be revisiting on every Chania trip I have in future!
The restaurant...very nice view...the only thing nice I can say about it! Very high price, which are accompanied by the incredible small portions served by the totally disorganized staff...who were very kind though! Sadly, it was our last dinner, so we could not wash out the bad taste of the amazing, otherwise, Greek/Crete hospitality, food and service!

100% tourist scam.
They literally served us stale shrimp with canned pasta sauce from Lidl. The waiter pushed drinks down our throats even before we go the chance to properly sit down. Also charged a random 3€ fee for absolutely no reason, that was added to our fab before any other item we ordered???

Kouzina is a small bustling restaurant on a main road in Old Port Chania - 5 minute walk from the port. It is nondescript from the street - in fact I walked past it numerous times before i discovered it.

It is only open for lunch, so go there hungry.

Whilst it has a menu on the table, the secret is in the numerous (15-20) dishes they have on display. All authentic Cretan and Greek dishes. The choices change on a daily basis and once sold out there is no more that day.

I had the Pastitsio and the Vlita. Absolutely superb food.

The traditional Cretan treat at the end of the meal was a Panna cotta served with a caramel sauce and a very smooth Retsina. A wonderful way to finish a wonderful lunch.

Highly highly recommended
Genuinely **please** do not go here. Came for a drink as a group of 9, absolutely zero alcohol in the drinks. I wish I was exaggerating, but all 8 cocktails we ordered tasted of fruit juice. Horrendous. Admittedly we should have researched before going - but for the love of all that is holy DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR.

This place is like a hidden treasure. Cosy, quiet, calm place with a little greek background music in the middle of the buzzling old-town. Even in the hottest daytime, the garden/street side is shaded by high walls and leafes of tall grape like plants.

The meals were really good, the portions acceptable and the price reasonable. Some of the waiters seemed to be a bit unpatient (stressed?) but did their job. We also got some raki and a tiny piece of dessert as a gift. We liked it!

Situated at the port. Overlooking the lighthouse. Choose to sit downstairs, inside on the second floor, or on the rooftop. Our family chose to sit on the rooftop. This was at around sunset, so we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset while eating. Service was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. We sampled many things from the appetizers, as well as the sushi, and finished off with steaks and risotto. Everything was prepared well and very fresh. Dessert was excellent as well. He did not feel rushed at any time. This restaurant is probably one of the only restaurants that I would repeat on the same vacation time period. Certainly have to make reservations to this excellent restaurant if you’re in Chania.
Portions are quite big, almond cheese, stuffed eggplant was very good as a starter. We preferred shrimp pasta and lamb ribs as main course. meat was very good pasta was more standard. I definitely recommend you to try honey and almond cheese among them.

Keep away it’s a scam place we was there last night me and the wife and 4 women on the table at the side of us said to us beware these guys have tried to out in our bill much more than we had. They also offered them a free cocktail if they went in but they never got it. We had a Greek salad a kebab and a beer and glass of wine and it came to 59 euros and when we checked the bill I noticed there was 6 items in the Greek written bill when we only had 4 items when we challenged the boss of this dive he said no no you had all these you must pay us. I strongly recommend that you keep away from this place as it very easy could end up much worst for you. These guys are not mucking around they want your money and as much as they can get from you.

The drinks were absolutely disgusting and we refused to pay as we didn’t drink more than a sip - we were then shouted at and made to feel guilty because they ‘need to pay taxes’ - we are also students and can’t afford 33 euros for a couple of drinks that we didn’t touch. Eventually had to pay 10 euros as we were genuinely scared they wouldn’t let us go - AVOID AVOID AVOID

This place is a classic tourist trap. The prices are high, the people wooing you to go in promise stuff that they don't intend to do, and the service is a bit slow. Yet, the food was actually good, the drinks were fine, speaking about the dinner itself it was more than fine, it was actually good. We paid about 45€ for mixed meat skewers, fried calamari, dolmadakias, and some wine, which is not too far off from the other places in Chania. If they clean up their act and be upfront with the prices and average them with the rest of the restaurants around, they can do a lot with the place. Until then, go to a more honest place.
Great food, good service, nice portion sizes. The mixed grill was very good.
The food was amazing! Very well cooked and from fresh ingredients. We only had appetizers, I think, 4 different ones (we discovered that in Greece, appetizers are very good, I could live on these). We enjoyed the shrimp. The cheese paste and the zucchini balls were very good! And the bread they serve is fresh and very good. In the end, they served us free desert. The restaurant is in the heat of old Chania.
We were pressured to go in the restaurant by giving us free wine. We believe we were told the fish sea bream was $14. The guys at the entrance were saying how good their prices were.

We sat down, got the free wine, sure enough the fish was 24€ suddenly. similar plates are 14-15€ around... We got scammed.
Went for lunch - really great food and lovely staff. Tucked into a side street but still with a great view of the ocean. Great local beer from a local brewery as well! Had the gyros - the tzatziki is probably one of the best I’ve had since we’ve been here. Recommend if you want a nice meal a bit away from the port!
Lovely little restaurant just down a side street from the ventition harbour. Very friendly staff and great food. Lots of local dishes. Plenty of options for vegetarians as well. Good selection of drinks including some local craft beers as well.
Had dinner here tonight, bit shocked reading the reviews. We had no issues. Good food, receipt balanced, we paid cash. -1 as service a little slow and brought me e the wrong wine (but I drank without complaint)

Nice location, but dirty glasses and expensive food. Drinks were priced pretty normally for the location.

Waiter starts of with taking drink orders without giving a you a card. Don't go for the 'large' beer, if you don't want to drink 1 liter instead of the normal 0,5L.

After seeing the menu, we didn't feel like eating there anymore. Finished our drinks and left for a different restaurant.

The place is great (architecture of the building) but... service and what you expect as food and quality is really a huge disappointment. Or maybe I was expecting too much! You don't feel "welcome"! You just feel that they do what is supposed to suit and consider you as a "stupid tourist"... which I hate if I have to say sincerely!!!! And to that, I am sorry: no way!!! You have a wonderful place, just make the magical thing happens! I will not advice this place to friends and will not go back there for sure 😔!!!! Make a huge effort and not a " hypocrite" one! Is that so difficult!?!
The food was very tasty and carefully made, the staff was really friendly and the food arrived very quickly. All of the above, combined with the very beautiful atmosphere the old town alleys provided, make this restaurant a must-visit.

What an absolute gem this is. A local tour guide recommended this place but be aware it gets very busy. We ordered the fish soup and Greek salad which came with bread and water.

We then ordered courgette pie with cheese which was delicious and amazingly light, with a hint of mint & beef stew with rice. Very very good Cretan home cooked food (with love).
They then served a dessert & Raki on the house (free) this was truly delicious. We will definitely be going back there and if I could award 6 Stars I would do it. The service was also really good, they helped us with understanding the menu and were really welcoming.
Excellent food, nice staff, a truly enjoyable evening! Better make a reservation! The Dorada was fantastic! Complimentary dessert was served to us which was very nice!

The fish is nice.
The grilled feta cheese is nice when it is hot.
The desert is surprisingly nice which is a fried cheese.
The place is a little bit crowded.

A two legged octopus walks to the table with a sea urchin and an avocado. The next minute they are gone. It's a miracle. Really yummy. Really cool waitress. Nice sea view from the shade of the small street. Yum yum.

The food and dining experience was great! The restaurant overlooks the water. I got chicken souvlaki which was tasty. My friends all had various seafoods that were fresh and reasonably priced. After our meal, we were given shots of liquor and fried cheese pies for free. I highly recommend this place for lunch if you visit Chania.

Amazing food and very friendly servers. The fried calamari are a 10/10 and the Dakos and Shrimp pasta never failed to amaze me. Only restaurant we went to multiple (3) times during our stay. We will for sure be back soon!!!
