We enjoyed some tasty sushi just before an event at the huntington theater. Very quick walk after so super convienient location.

Our alaska rolls had some dark meat on them but the taste wasnt affected. We tried some of their minty alcoholic drinks, and though they were good we found them too minty since the fruity flavors didnt come through.

There is only one bathroom which is common for boston but still counts as a downside.

If we are in the area would happily come again to try another menu item, they get bonus points from me for also having noodle soups or ramen.

We had a great meal here! Really enjoyed the vegetable rolls - I had the sweet potato, avocado, and pickled turnip rolls. Sleek decor and plenty of seating. Pretty busy here on the weekend, but we didn't have to wait long. Excellent waitstaff.

Just love it here!!! They have fantastic Japanese food. I highly recommend it. I really love their katsu chicken. The chicken was perfectly fried with a light batter. I also love their potstickers.

Bostonians don’t know the taste of real sushi. Fish were all dry, thinly cut, tasteless. Unnecessarily complicating menu. Sushi rice was hard and not cooked well. I don’t understand why this place get reviews of 4.3 average. Never recommend to others.
The drinks are amazing and well worth it. Service is great and the atmosphere is great, far superior than most of the common sports bars in the area. The food is great and reasonably priced, it’s not gourmet, but it doesn’t claim to be. Highly recommend typhoon if you are in the area, don’t listen to the negative reviews, they are probably from tourists or college kids.
Empty place on Friday evening, but I’m not surprised staff some mean, some unpleasant, you will not see the smile at all. Service is slow and no parking in the area.

My name is Mia, and I am Arnaud's wife, whose review you may have read below. I too felt sick—experiencing a severe headache and nausea—the day after our meal, which only confirms our concerns.

Arnaud has a particularly sensitive reaction to food quality, evidenced by past experiences where he’s had to discard meals. In one instance at a Thai restaurant, he saw a rat, and another time at a small Chinese restaurant, the food made him feel ill almost immediately. When he reacts like this, it typically indicates a serious issue with the food.

Aside from our concerns about the freshness of the food, which can occasionally be an issue anywhere, what truly suprised and disappointed us was the way our concerns were handled. Being called liars when we were simply expressing our dissatisfaction was incredibly unprofessional and RUDE. We showed a photo of the aftermath merely to be believed, not to cause a scene.

It makes no sense for someone to induce vomiting just to get a free meal. There is nothing logical about this.

We moved to a quieter part of the restaurant because our baby was crying, and we wanted to be considerate of other customers, not because we were unhappy with our seating or something else.

Your accusation that we were seeking a free meal was offensive and baseless. Please consider with your CONSCIENCE what kind of food you are actually serving, particularly because the prices do not seem to reflect the standard of the food served. Also, using cheap disposable chopsticks could save you some money but really lowers the overall impression of your restaurant.

Anyways, if you care about your health and mood, please avoid this place. We've never seen such a rude owner, and the staff's attitude was dismissive.

It is too reasonable, especially for eel rice (unagi). Sashimi and sushi rolls are definitely above the average. UMIAI!!

I had a horrible experience. I threw up my meal in their bathroom and when I told the waiter that it made me sick, she gave me an attitude - as if I was trying to get a free meal.

I then spoke to the owner, who also happens to be the sushi chef. He took no responsibility at all and even tried to make it sound like I must have an eating disorder. I even showed them what I threw up. (This is their bathroom in the photo.)

I can't believe we even sat in this empty restaurant. Never sit in an empty restaurant: why did I forget again... it's a simple rule.

Stay away from this place. Just because they are next to expensive restaurants doesn't mean they are thriving. Here goes your $100.

Ordered two lunch set bentos! (Salmon Steak & Fried Chicken) Both were fresh and the portions generous! I especially liked the variety as it included a few pieces of sushi, a spring roll, and a fried dumpling as small additions to the bento. Service was fast and overall it was a great experience!
Loved this small, peaceful Thai cafe. Food was delicious, and tons of vegetarian options. We had the Drunken noodles and chili Thai basil with jasmine tea. The tea was steamy hot and felt good on a cold evening. The food was fresh, tasty with loads of tofu and veggies. Will definitely recommend this place at any time of day!

Quick and easy lunch. No problems at all. Ordered a pork katsu bento box and came within 5 minutes.
EXCELLENT! We ordered from Basho repeatedly via DoorDash while my son was being treated in the hospital. He loves sushi and this was such a comforting treat for him and us during a difficult time. Everything we ordered was consistently good. The rolls are creative and the quality of the seafood is excellent. Thank you so much for making our hospital stay so much better.

Sushi was good, we really enjoyed the Newbury Roll and the Dragon Roll (pictured). Service was slow and the place was really tightly packed. We ordered the edamame and got a tiny portion… half of what you would expect a normal portion to be, wouldn’t get again. Good sushi, recommend those bento boxes that seemed to be a much better value for your money.
Delicious meal! We especially loved the Rib Appetizer and Miso glazed sea bass. Definitely would highly recommend
Food was Awesome! We got the shrimp Katsu bao, wagyu bao, shrimp shumai, spicy tuna on crispy rice, sweet potato roll, snow crab nigiri, lobster tempura roll, and lychee martini. All were phenomenal and good portions 🤩 music was on point and service was excellent

This is a staple must go restaurant for my sisters and I everytime we visit Boston. (We're from NYC) Their sushi quality is super fresh and their Baked Alaska Tuna Maki is absolutely amazing -- super buttery melt in your mouth quality. I always order that one, witht the Butterfly Maki and one new to try everytime (This year I tried the Prudential which was excellent). We've been here once every year for the past 8 years and the quality is still the same as we remember it each time. Staff is friendly and welcoming. They've had structural interior renovations within the past 8 years and the atmosphere is very homey. I crave for their sushi when I'm back at home in NY -- I haven't found this quality at this price. I highly recommend!

The food at this restaurant is average at best. I tried their lunch special featuring chicken teriyaki with rice saturated in teriyaki sauce, a sad salad, a bland mushroom soup, and an unremarkable California maki. I requested a miso soup instead of the mushroom soup listed on the menu, but they don't allow substitution which is sad. Despite the steep prices, the quality falls short compared to other Japanese restaurants nearby that has lower prices and better food.

Sushi rolls were surprisingly delicious and fresh and presentation was nice! I enjoyed the crab ragoons they were. Perfectly crispy and warm. Had the pad thai with tofu it was delicious although the tofu was a bit much and I prefer it fully grilled and not mushy.

The food was delicious and also hot when it came out. The drinks was very good, Charles took his time to make our drinks for us the (Mojitos) guy. I want to thanks the whole kitchen staff. Over all I will give the place and the staff excellence for their service.

I've never given any review anywhere and this is my first time for giving a bad review here. I got 3 orders of Moo Ping (grilled pork) that costs me about 50$ for delivery order. I'm so upset cuz it's too much fat (about 80%). I have ordered Moo Ping from other restaurants many times and I've never seen so much fat like this. I can't believe that a famous restaurant would make such poor quality food. This will be my first and last time ordering food from here.

Laughing Monk is pretty spacious, so it is good for a group meal. I've been here twice and have never had issues with the service.

Food:
- Thai Iced Tea: A classic drink at any Thai place. It was very creamy and did not taste powdery. I would get this again.
- Shrimp Thai Fried Rice: This dish was a bit oily, but the wok flavor is very nice. Lots of umami.
- Chicken Mango Curry: The chicken was pretty dry, but the curry was well balanced. However, it is not the best mango curry that I've had.
- Beef Pad See Ew: This dish was very salty. I am not sure if it was an off day or if it is usually this salty.
- Flan and Sticky Rice: This dessert felt like a scam to be honest. You are pretty much paying for the presentation because the flan and sticky rice were each about the size of a quarter. This was recommended by our server, but we were very disappointed because we could not taste anything given the size.

This was my second time here. I enjoyed my first time more, especially since prices have increased quite a bit without the same increase in quality or variety, but I would come a third time for the omakase, as that seems to be a good experience based on reviews.

Let’s start with cons, shall we?
The location is great, just in the middle of seaport, everything in a close proximity, a lot of parking spots, subway is just across the street.
The wine and alcohol selections is so wide that one may start to think that the real purpose of this establishment is to provide a perfect place to drink something exquisite and the food is just the entourage.
Waiters are way above and beyond: attentive, helpful, friendly.
There some cons, though, too.
First and most surprising: the chairs, tables are in a long demand of repair. Seriously, chairs are creaky and shaky, the tables have bulging surfaces. May be just a bad luck, though.
Next: the food selection is very narrow and it seems it stays the same throughout the years. I visited this exact location one year before and I believe the menu has exactly the same.

The dishes quality is good. Not outstanding, though. Exactly what you would expect, looking at the price tags.

Overall, worth visiting once to may be test some exquisite liquors, but I would not recommend it if e repeating visits.

Huge variety of delicious foods! So many different meat and veggies from their Hot Pot menu. There are also all sorts of chinese & japanese dishes from the kitchen & sushi bar. ON TOP OF THESE, there are smoothies from fresh fruits, cute mocktails & cool cocktails! I literally can go every day and not have anything repeated .

Very cute Thai eatery.

They were playing Christmas music when we walked in and had a whole projector installation for the holiday season.

We ordered the yuzu lager beer they had and it was freaking AMAZING. Such a good beer, albeit an expensive beer ($12)

The food itself was also well done. The red curry was spicy and well made. The gyoza was delicious. The sushi tasted fresh and had a lot of nice flavors and finally the tom yum soup was yummy.

Honestly loved everything about this place, no complaints at all!
An amazing Thai restaurant with plenty of Asian food options to choose from. The only negative about this place is the hard to find parking spot.

We ordered the scallion pancakes, no meat tofu sushi rolls and Thai basil fried rice. 🍚 🍣🍱

Scallion pancakes were not too oily, crisp and to our liking. The no meat sushi rolls were flavorful ( it had cucumber, avocado, and fried tofu) loved the flavors. Thai basil fried rice never disappoints. We requested them to make it “Thai spicy” and they obliged.

The ambience, service and music was very
inviting. We will definitely go again.
I've had the salmon burrito three different times. The first two times were SUPERB and perfect, but tonight, my salmon burrito had barely any sauce and wasabi, which left it pretty bland and tasteless. The tuna and crab burritos I got, however, had the opposite problem and were dripping sauce, which made it feel very heavy and soggy.

I've talked about this place to so many different people because it was quickly becoming my favorite, but now I'm afraid the quality and taste aren't consistent.

Edit: I ordered the salmon burrito again, and thankfully, it was of similar quality to my first orders, which I loved!

Our server Chan was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and provided outstanding service! The staff was very welcoming, and the ambiance was nice. It was my first time trying hot pot so I wasn't sure how it worked or what to order and he explained everything so easily and recommended which broths to use, we ended up going with the Wagyu and it was incredible. Well worth the price! The soup dumplings were amazing as well. We will definitely be back next time we are back in town!

We were there for a Birthday celebration. The service was outstanding and the food is just delectable. The Crab Cake appetizer and the Goat Cheese ravioli, paired with the Lobster Bisque was just phenomenal. And for the main course the Striped Bass (special), along with the Branzino was just sensational. Both fish were succulent and every bite was a flaky delight. The accompanying sauces and the presentation was nothing short of superb, and the wrap up course with the amazing Birthday dessert made for a very memorable evening. The ambiance and the vibe is for something special, and you might very well feel it when there.

And blanked shrim. Every tasted as expected, and we wore not disappointed even though we arrived last min.

I returned to Ocean Prime after a previous visit where I enjoyed their scallop with rice, and it was exceptional. This time, I made a reservation to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The taste was consistently delicious. The server wished him a happy birthday and surprised us with a birthday dessert. When my boyfriend spilled his cocktail, the server offered a quick refill. A fantastic experience overall, and we'll definitely be back.

Great food and okayish service. I ordered veggie tempura and a Newbury Maki. The tempura was the best I’ve had in awhile with Umai putting a variety of veggies in the appetizer. The Newbury Maki was good, a decent size, rice nicely cooked, and the whole thing tasted good. Loved the play with textures from the tempura pieces, salmon, avocado, and small roe.

I was surprised miso nor a small salad was served after I ordered, but maybe those are only given alongside bigger entrees, like bentos.

Service was a bit slow when I visited in the late evening (not too many customers). When I was brought the Toast machine to pay and tip, the waitress stood next to the machine watching how much I tipped, which seemed a little off to me. I’ve found most waiters will turn their heads when customers decide on a tip or aim the machine more towards the customer, so having the waitress stare down at the machine felt somewhat rude to me.

Overall, Umai was good for my first experience. I’d probably visit again only after trying a handful of other sushi places in the Boston area.

We were here for an anniversary dinner, we put that as a note on our last minute reservation. The food was amazing! It was rich, luscious and decadent. I ordered the Sonoma goat cheese ravioli and my husband ordered the crab cakes for our apps. For our mains I ordered the snapper which was dry and was oddly paired with a sweet corn sauce underneath. I wasn't a fan. However, we received complimentary desserts for our celebration. The only other downside was where we were seated we were so close to other diners we were basically IN their conversations...totally distracting.

Most of the reviews seem great, I got sushi and pan fried pork gyoza and nothing was that great. The gyoza were fine if rather bland. The sushi was very mushy, especially the spicy tuna roll. Once upon a time the spicy rolls were actual pieces of tuna with some spicy mayo on top and now it’s just mush inside some rice. The sushi was also very fishy tasting. The spicy shrimp tempura was ok but I got the one topped with spicy tuna. So again had to wipe it off. Altogether this was $40 with tax tip and “fee” for the takeout so absolutely not worth it.

Great lunch specials at this sushi restaurant. Very fresh fish. We ordered the symphony Don Buri bowl and the maki lunch combo of spicy salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Our son had the side order of beef udon soup. It tasted like French onion soup with udon noodles that he loved. The maki rolls are huge, way more than what I was expecting for the price. Shout out to our server beau for getting our sons food out of the kitchen first and being super friendly

The restaurant is located in the good neighborhood, but hard to find parking lot. The meals tasted okay, as Korean cousin. There was a issue about my rice! I saw a long black hair in it and show it to a waiter. She asked me what I wanted, I said change it and she did, but no one came to my table and said sorry about the situation! Even though the waiter looked like mad at me.
I love it here, can't complain. It was my first time trying the chicken satay, it was tender and seasoned well. The dumplings are my go to, so tasty

I guess they were understaffed because it was one woman doing most of the work but she was very nice and apologetic..I had the beef Goyza because you all know that’s my favorite ❤️ and you can choose if you want them fried or steamed then I asked for chicken teriyaki keeping it simple it didn’t come out as expected it was sliced chicken w teriyaki sauce drizzled on top and the rice was in a small bowl but she didn’t give the salad looked brown so I didn’t eat that and they had a few fruit flies which made it a smidge annoying but the windows were open as well so I give them a small pass the water didn’t have ice cubes so it was pretty warm and she didn’t ask if I wanted anything to drink again trying to be understanding of them being low staffed not sure if i would visit parking was only lucky because if the holiday but is very slim

Visiting from Toronto and decided to stop by this place on a rainy Friday morning. Toronto is known for having good asian cuisine but I have to say this is right up there with some of the best chinese I have ever had.

The sushi is passable, but pretty disappointing given the fairly high price. The eel was cold (maybe because service was slow) and octopus and squid was too firm. It's in a nice area, Newbury St, but next time I'm around I'll probably commute elsewhere to get better sushi.

Miso soup was respectable as was the lobster fried rice. My wife had the pork ramen and was rather bland. She did enjoy her salmon sashimi.

Top notch place. Love their food and especially poke bowls. Posting this review because I am very impressed with their customer service. I placed an online order and must have accidentally clicked the wrong protein. I went in and they rectified it and gave me a whole new bowl even though I insisted I paid and it was my fault. Normally I would have eaten it but I really dislike salmon. Very impressed with the customer service as I was already a big fan of the food the couple times I had tried it.

Always in search of a high quality-per-dollar dining experience, and being fans of Korean (and Japanese) cuisine, we were very pleased to experience Seoul on Cambridge Street.
The place is beautifully designed and decorated, the staff is kind and energetic, and the food healthy and delicious, with a very extensive menu at very reasonable prices. We had bibimbap, tofu stew and seafood japchae, all excellent. They feature a wide variety of hot pots, noodle dishes, Korean pancakes, along with an extensive Japanese menu (including sushi), and tabletop Korean barbecue, and the lovely Korean custom serving bonchon, a variety of healthy, tasty complimentary appetizers.
Korean tradition views food and nutrition as medicine, and the longevity and health statistics of the Korean population bear that out as an optimal approach to a healthy life. Korean food should be particularly attractive to those adhering to Nutritarian diets, as well as keto or vegan.

Came here on a whim for dinner Wednesday night, and it was just the two of us around 6pm. More and more people trickled in but we were given our choice of seating. It's a unique space with different seating options and lots of window seats.

We ordered the Party Boat, which was more than enough for the two of us. Each piece of sushi tasted fresh. Next time we probably would opt for ordering smaller dishes to share, but the boat was pretty good value for the amount of food we got.

The service was also very friendly and attentive. Every time my water got low, it would get filled back up right away. Would definitely come back for a casual meal!

Lots of great seafood options and drinks had us eating here two days in a row. The sushi especially stood out as delicious, going beyond the basic options and into interesting rolls with sauces and lightly seared fish. Tiki style drinks are on the sweeter side.
This place is such a vibe. The food, service and atmosphere is Top of the Line. Definitely a hidden Gem 💎 in Back Bay. I honestly can’t believe I hadn’t been here before tonight. Some of the best sushi I’ve had in a while. The lady serving was such a sweetheart and when above and beyond. She had a genuine smile the whole time and for me that goes a long way.

Very fresh delicious sushi. Pork Bulgogi was spectacular. Not a very expansive selection of pickled vegetables. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Waitstaff was overwhelmed. Service was slow. Waited a long time for food, drinks.

Prices are decent. Food is excellent. Would return.

Update. We returned. EXCELLENT. This place is worth a visit.
Comfy seating, friendly host, price and food just didn’t meet 5 star worthy. Wagyu beef fried rice was 80% rice and 20% (literally 4-5 slices). Just feels bad having to eat only rice after? I’d rather pay more to have a better proportion. Otherwise, sushi overall was pretty good.

Literally the best place i’ve ever eaten at. It’s so small, hardly could find it yet packed full of flavor. I got the fried haddock scallion pancake wrap and it was so good. i am full just eating half of it. My boyfriend got the salmon sushi burrito and he ate that right up. We got the Crab Rangoons as the share item but we ended up sharing it all!!! So good!!

First started ordering from here for the sushi burritos, but now our go-to is the bowls which are easier to eat. The online order ahead menu has very good software and it is easy to customize your order. I've always been impressed by the fresh ingredients in the sushi rolls and bowls, but it is also hard for me not to order the Scallion Pancakes every time.

Absolutely delicious. Brought my family here because I wanted to try a sushi burrito and everyone left happy and satisfied. The food and teas were delicious. They even have options if you don’t prefer seafood or meat. I had the (make your own) tofu sushi burrito, and it was probably one of the best things I’ve eaten.
Had the kimchi soup with beef....HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!Excellent flavor..heat..and presentation. Service was timely. We went around 13:00. Hit the spot...I wanted soup...this is so far the most selection of soups in 1 place around the west end that I've found so far...will keep you posted as I explore..

Such a cute hidden gem! We wanted to get a drink before another reservation and this place didn’t disappoint. Really creative sushi options and they were all sooooooo good! They also have a cute wine shop. Next time, we’ll be making the trip to just eat here!
On my way through Boston for a ski trip, a friend suggested we eat at this sushi restaurant. The service was excellent right from the start. We ordered the Alaska roll and the Crazy Maki roll. We also ordered the chicken Katsu which was super tasty. All the food was great. This place is located near the reflecting pool and Prudential. Definitely recommend.

I just ate a salmon burrito here and it honestly was amazing. I am not sure about the last time I ate a quick bite at a place and felt totally satisfied. Great price, FRESH fish, taste was on point and packaging is pretty sleek!

A classic! We lived in Boston 5+ years ago and revisited this place to experience old times as students. Didn't disappoint! The portions are still generous and prices are comparatively cheaper to all other restaurants nearby. Lunch specials around $12 for a big bento lunch plus miso soup and maki lunch has very generous portions of fish!

Fantastic sushi and service! Everything we ate was delicious - this place is a hidden gem. The employees here are very kind and the service is excellent. Our favorite things were the salmon-tuna tartar and the tsukiji maki. The lychee martini was also amazing!

The staff is incredibly kind and friendly, the ambience is amazing and perfect for a romantic dinner. The food is insanely good. They have classic dishes and ones with a newer twist to them. Price is worth it! Definitely recommend!!

Not sure why the reviews here are not great. But we had a fantastic dinner and great wine! Most rolls are in the $8-12 range and the sushi boat for 2 is $60 and perfect amount of food with good quality and variety. The bottles of wine are reasonable ($30-40 most of them) and the servers are super knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be back many times.

Delicious! And so aesthetically pleasing! The lunch menu is perfect. I felt full after leaving and it only cost $10! The staff was pleasant, and very hard-working. They made sure we were comfortable and our water glasses were always full. They also were super sweet and easily helped us by accommodating 15 people during lunch. I’ll definitely be back again.

I have been many times never disappointed. Always great... one of the best places to eat sushi. I can’t wait to go back! I loved the shrimp tempura and the tempura ice cream is to die for! This is one of the few places in Boston every time I go to Boston I have to go to seiyo. Staff is really friendly and attentive.
We came here for dinner with a large group and it was mostly empty. We had a great time and everything was delicious!

We got the Matcha Matcha and Mango Whisky drinks, both of which were super good, looked beautiful, but weren't very strong. For apps, the tuna tartare was the most tasty. We got an assortment of the special sushi rolls and honestly they were all super delicious.

The service was prompt and knowledgeable; the ambiance was hip. I would come back here again!
