They claim knowledge and payout on collectible items such as Military. Well they do not, in fact they have zero knowledge and apparently can’t pick up a book or look something up. I personally bought this boar war medal which you know if you ask him when the war was he wouldn’t know I’m sure of that. But he will cause look he will look that up after reading this lol. But still he knows all medals off the top of his head with values as well lol I could tell on how assertive he tried to be on how it was only worth 20 in scrap silver which in its self is quite below market that he had know idea what was presented in front of him. Well I did admit I worked at Gatewest for years prior to leaving and told him he don’t know what he’s doing what’s so ever. He’s making a mockery of collectible items with his zero care to learn his trade. I’m sure his dad/or owner loves the passion it took him to run a shop like that to have it get lost with lazy brains that can’t even grab a book. What a dam shame. Anyway dont bother here as much as I hate to say it Gatewest is by far still the best to go to for prices and knowledge of items. Also falsely advertising that they do look for the collectible value but if your not picking up a book or looking up selling points from auctions and other and just spitting scrap value on such items coming in then you are falsely telling people that they get the best value at your shop on top of claiming knowledge for collectible value. BBB and ombudsman next friend. This shops behaviour and claims is a clear pattern in the business with the new gens taking over. I’ll gladly post book reference of value and current selling points of my item. Maybe he can use it the info. You being on that side of the counter means nothing really if your words and actions prove you shouldn’t be.

Went there years ago and found out my ring was worth hundreds more than what Pamela gave me . Research what your gold is worth first or you will get ripped off big time like I did . Pamela asked me too If I have ever been there before now I know why . Don't go here you will get ripped off !!

Be careful from this one. His price is too low on 22 CRT gold as compared to other gold buyers in the city when you sell at this shop. . Shop around.

Very rude big old lady can’t get serve by her didn’t respect appointements drive their for nothing. Took like 5 minutes before someone just look what I was doing in the back ground. Very immature and impolite scream and react. Went somewhere else sold some of them for over $8,000. Just in gold. Never go back there for sure. For you miss find another job gatewest is way better with out you!

I have been there 2 times and have had great service. He is friendly, fast and truthful. I'm grateful that I have a place where I can exchange CND for whatever currency I need at a good price. It costs alot more at my bank.

Went in to sell some MapleLeaf silver coins. Prices are updated and stated every 60 seconds on their own system. There should be no negotiation here right? Well not according to the tattood, lying gypsy running the counter. She scoffs and says that they had way too much inventory right now and can't offer that price. What a joke. Also, told my father that a 1 ounce gold US coin doesn't actually have a full ounce of gold in it and paid him less than spot price. This place is filled with shady, lying con artists. Stay away!
I took a few pieces of jewelry that I no longer wanted to the Portage avenue location. Very friendly service! All items were examined while I watched and any questions I had were answered. I made a lot more money than I expected too, if you have unused gold items packed in a drawer cash them in! Highly recommended

Interesting place. The mature lady with the fancy nails (whom many of these reviews seem to reference) started off seemingly rude and snippy with me but turned out to be very helpful and polite by the end. Lots of positive character development in my 15 minute visit. Like an old snowmobile, sometimes things take a bit to warm up and then it's all good.
The old lady who works at the front is legitimately the worst person I’ve ever interacted with in my life. She told me she wasn’t interested in answering the questions I had. I was looking to get some coins valued and she told me I was wasting her time, my wife and I were the only ones in the shop. She was very rude to my wife almost immediately.
Had to get a marriage license. The city was out! Thank goodness for the friendly staff at gem traders. They issued me a license and saved the day.

So, I found 2 bags of coins at Value Village and emailed Gatewest Coin to see if they would check them out for me. Email response was very pleasant, and they responded sure they would check them with no charge. I found 2 gold coins and 15 silver coins in the bags, ranging from 1917 to 2000. I was greeted by a heavy set older woman with black hair, and she right away told me that they are worth $6 CAD and that is all she was going to pay for them. She threw all them together in a plastic container to weight them, without care. All I could think was "well if there was any value, there is not anymore". I never asked this lady if I could sell them to her, and I would not of offered. Sounds to me like she wanted to scam me out of my find. Very rude to me also, and I will never go back there. Even my kids asked me what her problem was. I was willing to pay them to tell me what they are worth, even if they are paperweights. There are US and British coins in there that are worth more face value than Gatewest Coins Dollar. Don't go there unless you would like to be scammed and degraded by the staff.

this was the second time I was dealing with this nice gentleman at the store. I showed up within a minute of him about to lock the door closed and he let me in and did business with me. He was extremely polite, gave me all the information that I had confirmed the weight and gave an honest and fair price. I would recommend anybody and everybody to take their scrap gold if they want to turn it into cash with no hassle and great service. I will return.
I brought my mother here today to make a purchase and we had the misfortune of dealing with a very rude elderly lady in glasses and elaborate fake nails and lots of jewellery. We went in curious and with questions and it was very clear this woman did not want to attend to us. This lady raised her voice at my mother when she asked her to repeat the price of jewellery she was looking at. This woman made us feel like we were unwelcome to shop here. We did make a purchase as the prices here are very good and we will continue business, but we will request to have someone else attend to our purchases. The young man that works there great and very knowledgeable.

SELLERS BEWARE: Their website scrap prices don’t match what you are given in store (pembina location) they priced my 10K gold at $22.82 per gram when the website showed $30.22 per gram and priced my 14K gold at $31.94 per gram when the website showed $42.26 per gram. With what I brought in, the total loss was over $150 due to price differences. The prices they priced my gold at are even lower than it even shows on the site today. ( I took a photo of my receipt and a screenshot of the website prices 5 mins after I left the store) So either someone there is pocketing the extra cash or the company is telling them to underprice so that they can profit more. Would definitely not return. Never got jipped like this when the Academy location was open, as I was a frequent customer, the staff even greeted me by name when I walked through the door. That’s where my trust with KMG started, but this last experience is where my trust in KMG was shattered. Will never go back after witnessing this sketchy business transaction and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place as well. It is an unfair and deceptive business that is false advertising. Guess I’ll have to look around for another gold buyer to do business with.

Place has rude people working there, and also dont do what they claim. I went there and asked if they buy nickel, the guy said no...meanwhike there was a poster right beside hin that said they do buy nickel, even goinf as far to say "nickels" (the 5cent coins which i had)...website also says they buy it. Guy was rude to me and said they didnt...i was there to buy junk silver, and found a really nice purple toned dime, i said o waa gonna buy it and told him to tally everything up...when i checked the bag it was gone...the guy kept it!!! 😖 i felt robbed

I went in to Gem Trading to have some jewelry repaired and had a great experience while dealing with them. They were very welcoming and gave me insightful information on the true value of what I was having repaired so that I wouldn’t have to waste my money unless I still chose to have it repaired. In other words, they gave me a couple of options to consider . I felt like they weren’t just there to take my money but explained where the value of jewelry really comes from.

Never been treated so bad in a store ever. This woman has no regard for her customers whatsoever. She closes for the day or leaves early whenever. It doesn't matter that you bused it there in the freezing cold to find out they are closed for the day. The website and store hours said open it doesn't say appointment only anywhere but after 2 bus rides there to find out it's closed. I'm never going back there.

went there with a 100oz silver bar and the woman offered to buy it $3 under spot! I left, and came back then she offered two different percentages under spot for the bar. She later told me they always buy 50 cents under spot but clearly that is not true. She acted very suspicious demanding multiple times to see the receipt from where I bought the bar. Than when I showed her(not that I had to) she said she just wanted to know where I bought it from? Why not just ask that, instead of treating a customer like a criminal. Im giving her my id with the sell and it's a stamped RCM bar, plus I have the receipt, whats with the million questions. I asked her if I can come back in the future with more bars she said to call in a couple days in advance if I want to sell more than 1 bar or go to their henderson location. Their main business is buying precious metals but they can't buy more than 1 bar without notice? Definitely will not be doing business with them again. Maybe they can survive buying 2 gram sterling silver flatware and can't handle the big ones.
