This really is one of Saffron Walden's hidden gems. Its so close to the Market square yet easy to miss as its on the first floor with a single door entrance.
After giving this place a miss for many months my wife and I decided to pop up the stairs to see what exactly we would find. We were both expecting to a rather small, fairly basic tea room but to our amazement it was quite large inside, very bright , tastefully decorated with an open kitchen. Really lovely space with a great friendly atmosphere.
The staff were super friendly and professional. I had the mushroom quiche which was amazing and my wife had a toasted ham and mushroom sandwich which was excellent also.
We will be back.

Amazing visit here with my friend. All the staff are very friendly. So many options on the menu to choose from. The chicken burger was out of this world! Great coffee and cake selection too. Would highly recommend this little tucked away gem!

Busy place. Sat outside and enjoyed watching the world go by. Best coffee I’ve had when out for ages and liked the fact that a free bottle of water was provided as well. Only bought two slices of cake. Lemon drizzle which was good and gluten free chocolate brownie which my wife thought was too sweet. Good service provided.

One of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time. The mini cheese omelette is a genius addition. The ingredients were top quality. Very impressive.
One of my favourite coffee shops the coffee here is top notch. They have a wide range of food options. They also sell a range of coffee beans which I often purchase. I came here for the coffee as it is hard to beat the quality. They have plenty of room to sit inside and have some seating outside. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
Range of food available with vegan / dietary restriction options. Service was great, bringing coffee to the table. Tables were clean, and the atmosphere comfortable. Would definitely come back again.

Lovely relaxed experience, food and drinks were lovely, service was friendly and helpful, great afternoon refreshment stop.
In Birmingham for a few days and this seemed like a decent breakfast stop. I was very impressed. The service was quick and good, the staff friendly and helpful and the food delicious. My only negative is the high price for a couple of extras my partner had with her meal, but even then, I can't complain. I would recommend to friends and will probably pop by next time in the city.
Came here for Sunday Brunch, had the matcha latte and the shakshuka, everything was amazing! They have all of the milks, any one you want, the staff are attentive and friendly and obviously get along well with each other, which creates a great atmosphere. They were really helpful with my dietary issues and they do have Gluten Free bread, just ask. They have a section of the menu where you can just build your own breakfast if you have fussy eaters or dietary problems as well, a great variety. Lots of lovely dogs around as a big bonus. The food was filling and warming and just yummy. It’s all very reasonably priced, I paid £18 for my bill, service charge included. I would recommend to anyone.
Excellent service 👏 great food very attentive staff would definitely go back 👍 😀
Clean and comfortable. The best time to go is Sunday lunchtime where you get deals on draft beers. Their other selection of drinks are good too. Reasonable prices. Food very good too
Stopped by for lunch as we visited the area. Cute little place with good service. The food was tasty. The kids menu was varied. My wife and I had wraps which were very good. Vegetarian options available.

Needed to wait quite a bit to be seated The cakes looked lovely but we did not try. We had a goat cheese salad which was amazing and a roasted vegetable Filo quiche which I found a bit plain. I would definitely try their sweets next time

Currently closed for renovation after a fire. Was here a couple of years ago while in Edinburgh. Great cappucino and sandwiches. Also has a spectacular view of the castle. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Slipped on a metal grid in the rain, managed to get to Starbucks , called for a first aider, she sat me down raised my leg, put a massive ice pack on it and kept coming over to see if I was OK, had my friend with me so didn't need much help from first aider.
Would like to thank you to the first aider, I'm now in A&E ,had x-ray, waiting to see if ankle broken 😀 😄
Service was great, not much off an atmosphere. Quiet place to get a night started, but they do have a dress code. Came across some snobby people basically moaning about other people having a good time

We came here to have 2 omelette rolls and a cappuccino as well as a chai latte. They were both really nice and tasty and it started off our day brilliantly. The omelette rolls tasted fantastic, with great flavour. The coffee was reasonably priced, compared to places like Costa and Starbucks, for example, and tasted better!

The staff were very chatty and friendly as well. We really enjoyed talking to them and they made the food very quickly within 10 minutes too. It was a bit noisy when we came in but I guess it's a normal thing with all restaurants in the morning, but it was still a fantastic experience and a great place to have your breakfast.

Just wanted to say thank you to the lovely employees working here yesterday. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon with a complicated 18 hot drink order and they didn’t bat an eyelid, were super helpful with getting them to a manageable place (cup holders, double lids, napkins wedged around the cups) and even carried them to the car for us. All in a record time! Thanks so much ladies, we got them back without a drop spilt!!

Based on 3 people opinion.
Service - even though we weren’t waiting ages for our food, we was updated to how much longer it would be, whenever we asked for something, we never felt like we bothered them, and they were happy to oblige.

Food - we ordered 1 fish finger sandwich, and 1 ham, cheese and mushroom toastie, both on sour dough -and a jacket potato with prawns, bacon and avacado with a side salad. I’m not going to lie, when the food arrived, I couldn’t believe the amount we got, the sandwiches were huge and they didn’t skimp on the jacket either. It tasted absolutely delicious.I had heard good things, but the three of us who went can be fussy with our food, so tried to lower my expectations, but t was so nice.

Price - so when I saw the price, at first I thought it was a little steep, until they brought it out, and you definitely get your moneys worth. So taking the cost, the taste and the amount you get in to account, is 3 fussy buggers give it full marks.
We were visiting Birmingham for one night a few weeks ago and Googled to find a place for breakfast, read the reviews, and just WOW this place is one of the best places we’ve ever been for breakfast! Food and service was exceptional! We wish we could give more than 5 stars! Defo recommend to all and if we visit again, we’ll be back! Thank you!
Packed for breakfast! And lovely service, really good breakfast, great cuppa, just what we needed. Highly recommended, right next door to the station so easy for travellers and tourists alike.
We always look to support this Nottingham-based business where they have branches available when we're away. This is a nice branch, strictly adhering to the 200 Degree decor and vibe that runs through all their outlets.

The only aspect of this preferred decor that I dislike is the lighting. Away from the windows at the front it just seems gloomy. And this also seems to be the way in the two branches in Nottingham and the two in Birmingham.

That said, the coffee is reliably excellent. This is a great business offering a nice coffee experience.

Service good and drinks good. Great price with the 40% off on Sundays. Wouldn't recommend the spaghetti ragu though, tasted and smelt burnt. Sunday dinner was OK....had alot better elsewhere. Really nice pub for drinks though and kid friendly 👌
Could have great potential, was really happy to see they had lots of selection when it came to cakes so there was an option for vegans and people with egg allergies etc.

However: for some reason everyone eating outside had to be served with polystyrene plates/paper cups?? This seemed to be a weirdly big deal for the owners because they'd printed off and laminated signs on EVERY SINGLE WALL saying "guests eating outside will be served with paper cups and plates". Kinda weird.
It was windy so they kept blowing away/over, and polystyrene is so terrible for the environment. You just think why can't the people outside be given normal plates that can go in a dishwasher? Rather than non reusable stuff that has to be thrown away after? Oh yeah, we also had to clean up after ourselves/sort our litter into seperate bins---and there was a lot of litter because everything we ordered came on polystyrene.

The service could do with a little improvement, food was very much worth the price. Full English for £10. Outdoor seating is the best part here, beautiful atmosphere when weather is nice.
This is a true gem among breakfast and brunch locations! An excellent and wide choice of food options. The dishes we've chosen were delicious, especially the Healthy Brunch - lots of healthy, colourful, and scrumptious food on the plate. The drinks menu (turmeric and blue butterfly lattes are on the pic) is also up to the high standard. Kids' menu available. Quick and friendly service. Reasonable prices.

Amazing place with both tables inside and outside. Staff was very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. The food was really really nice. We was a group of 7 and all had different food and all was amazed by the taste. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We love this place. Excellent food, well presented. Always extremely fresh salads. Can be a bit noisy, but everything else compensates for that. Staff very hard working and polite, always on the ball as is the owner and his wife and of course " mum" who are hard at it cooking and preparing food. Would give them more than five stars +. Well done all of you, keep it up.

Great menu, food is good, lovely customer service. Place is limited but cosy so it’s best to make reservations ahead. Overall a pleasant experience, will definitely come back again !
Cute courtyard coffee house.
Basic sandwich menu & specials board. Breakfast served
Food was good, prices are ok. The service was good, although they are pretty busy so it is slightly on the slow side, but not bad by any means.

Not dog friendly inside like most places for breakfast, although I didn’t go inside, so it’s probably a space thing.

Seating area outside is nice if it’s not raining, as it’s not sheltered. Thanks

Amazing Hangover Cure Breakfast (and in fact quite a nice sophisticated menu for people without hangovers). I did get my sausages forgotten (hence the photo is lacking them) but that was soon resolved. Great coffees, juices, smoothies, beer and wine etc. Highly recommended.

Absolutely brilliant value ( though it isn't cheap) and very delicious food. The prices are very good given the size of the portions. Today we had a sandwich, roast vegetable and cream cheese on malted bread plus a pot of herb tea each. The sandwich was really nice and very filling. The staff are nice, but quite hard pushed, the premises are small and it is popular, so it can be a bit slow and feel a little cramped. We didn't have a cake today but have had cake in the past & they are all great
The Mocha was worth the trip all the way from the neighbourhood emerald island!

- smooth, chocolaty and full of character till the last drop

It seems like they use some very fine chocolate and not powder like other cheap spots.
Friendly staff, lovely little find. Great coffee and bacon sandwich

Coucou does amazing food. Doorstep sandwiches, great salads, but where they really score is desert. If you're not allergic to nuts, try the florentine, it's amazing.

Service can be a little slow, not glacial, just not awesome. But it's a great little place.
A nice hidden diner with a top menu.

I have the halal breakfast as a takeaway.

The eggs were well formed and still runny despite a 10 min drive. The beans in a well sealed tub and the turkey bacon tasty and well cooked. The chicken halal sausages were tasty and pre-cut in half for easy eating.

The toast was standard but they did give me white toast when I had asked for wholemeal.

A lovely filling breakfast that I really enjoyed.
Was in Saffron Walden for 2 weeks. Enjoyed my morning walk for coffees and toasties. By the end of the stay Victoria knew my name and order! Thanks for looking after me Victoria and team. Great coffee and service :-)

Fantastic service and good quality food!

We waited for 20 minutes on a busy Saturday morning as we forgot to book… however, it was definitely worth the wait!

The girls serving us were so lovely to talk to and took great care of us and the food was super tasty!

It was my first time having breakfast in Saffron Walden and I can’t wait to go back for another, here at Gluttons!!
Easily the Best Coffee shop in Leeds.
The Quality and taste is superb, service is friendly and efficient, the location and atmosphere is calming and convenient.

My wife and I visited as we have heard good things about Gluttons. The premises are accessed from the street by a set of stairs, so if you have mobility issues it could be a problem.
Once inside, the premises were bigger than I was expecting. I thought it was also quite busy for a Thursday lunchtime. We were quickly seated.
The atmosphere and decor was a mixture of old world beams and smart, I think I would have preferred a bit more of the old world.
It took some time for order to be taken, but the drinks and food were delivered quite quickly.
We both had a coffee and cheese scone. Both were pretty good but nothing special compared to other establishments in Saffron Walden.
The prices were a bit on the high side, but not extortionate. Overall there's no reason why I wouldn't be happy to go back, but I probably wouldn't as I have other establishments in SW that I prefer.
Lovely place to stop for coffee and a snack. The place also offers coffee/Barista classes to help learn about coffee, or improving on things like latte art. Worth a visit if nearby!

Went in for coffee and cake, I had a slice of carrot cake which was recommended by one of the customers there, it was quite nice but if I am giving a honest comment and recommendation, I would say the carrot cake lacks the cream in the middle as carrot cake would taste nicer if there is a cream / line in the middle to separate two layers of the cake, and it would be nicer if it was a bit softer, but overall it was still delicious. The coconut flat white that I had was very nice too. Service was fast, price was fair.
Very tasty, good quality, huge breakfast. Professional staff. Good choice of breakfast option in menu.

Clean enough cafe tucked behind the street frontage with breakfasts and a simple lunch menu. They need to learn that roughly chopped lettuce and a quartered tomato with no dressing a 'salad' does not make. Their policy of serving food on paper plates if you sit in the courtyard chafes against other businesses' more diligent attention to recycling. It is only 'ok' for the price.
I like it. It's an affordable place with nice food while also having pleasant and friendly service. Great place for breakfast or lunch.

This place is a hidden treasure.
Clean and simple decor.
Worth the money for the experience of quality food, customer care and away from hussle of outside, yet right in the middle of it.
All the staff were so friendly and causally welcoming. Not false. You could see they took pride in working there and genuinely wanted to please the customer.
Amazing quality of food and no changes were too much.
I ordered smashed avocado, with pouched eggs and completly changed everything apart from the avocado!
It was delicious and plentiful that I couldn't finish it.
Definitely the best breakfast I have ever enjoyed.
Just wished I lived local!
The coffee is nice, though the service can be slow. Avoid the breakfast sandwiches, they're a total rip off. The vegan sausage sandwich had only 1 1/2 sausages in, they'd been cut in half both ways and just lined in the centre of the bread. Taking the mick out of customers at this point.
Sad to see it closed, but that obviously not their fault due to a devastating fire so I’m not leaving a bad review like some of these people. A great stop to look at all the same, and will definitely have to come back when they open back up. Very cool location and surrounding area as well. Worth a visit for both Harry Potter fans and people close by.

Great place for a coffee stop. We sat in the yard. Staff were excellent and very polite and friendly. While we sat having our coffee, we saw about 4 couples come down into the yard quick look round, and walked off without looking at the menu or going inside, all I could say was you missed out on a great experience. They serve breakfast until 11.30. If you sit out in the yard you will be given paper plates and cups that you will put in a bin provided and cutlery in a bucket of water.

Best in the area! Highly recommend
Perfect place. I truly enjoyed my breakfast there. Portions are nice and big - it can feed a giant!! 😁😁😁. Variety in menue can satisfy any picky eater. Staff is very polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Prices are very sensible. Overall, good experience all-around.
A few friends and I visited Birmingham for the weekend and desperately needed breakfast. Grand Central Kitchen was simply amazing. We couldn't locate the cafe at first, so I called up for directions, and the owner (I believe his name is Cena) kindly met us outside and took us to our seats. This was very impressive as we'd never experienced this type of care at any cafe/restaurant, especially from the owner! We immediately felt taken care of. His polite staff took our order, and the delicious breakfast arrived in no time. The food, service and atmosphere were so satisfying we went back for breakfast the following morning before travelling back to London. Cena didn't fail to impress us again and kindly stored our suitcases in a safe place while we enjoyed another delicious breakfast. Grand Central Kitchen is now our go-to cafe whenever we decide to visit Birmingham (hopefully soon!), and we'll be sure to recommend the cafe to everyone. Keep up the fantastic service and customer experience :)
Amazing service, cozy atmosphere and really good food!!! Service was super fast and wonderful. I had a perfect English breakfast and my earl grey with milk was made perfectly as well. Honestly amazing to eat here, I will definitely be back.

The muffin was great sorry to say I can't say the same about the coffee. I'm a Starbucks fan but something was off at this branch this day. Still it was warm the staff friendly and most important of all it wasn't raining inside.
Hidden gem, Reccomended

Lovely little courtyard cafe accessed through an alleyway on the seafront.

Cosy and colourful outside seating area and seating inside.

Ordered a bacon and egg, no white or butter (fussy I know) to take away, it was a beautiful sunny morning so I wanted to enjoy my breakfast at the beach.

Unfortunately when I opened my sandwich it was sausage and egg! I guess the order got mixed up with someone else's. Although it was not what I ordered, it was still a very nice sandwich and I'd recommend trying the cafe if your staying in the village!

I only gave 4 stars because of the order mix up (I do like a BACON sandwich)
One of the worst in the world. I've been a Starbucks lover for decades. I've been to Starbucks all over the world and this one is by far the worst. They layout, cleanliness, full bins, dirty chairs and tables, opening hours, they never have a different roast on the drip. And the worst part, is when I asked for a French press coffee they said they didn't do that here. 5 minutes later the area Manager is having a French Press coffee. What a joke. Now, by some stupid sense of loyalty, I'm having a weak Americano. Such a shame. The Philippines and Vietnam have much better Starbucks than here. Disappointing.

Magical place for Harry Potter fans! The coffee shop is actually quite lovely, they have beautiful views by the windows. Hot drinks and cakes were good. Harry Potter fans have written tons of messages all over toilet's doors and walls. Liked the place and our waiter, I believe his name was Aitor, made the experience much better. He was lovely and allowed us to seat in when it was close to closing time, and overall, he was super nice and helpful. It can get really busy, so if you are not a Harry Potter fan, there might be other coffee shops as good as this one, but it's definetely a charming one!

Good elephant cappuccino and a huge homemade muffin I had there. This cafe seems be very famous for tourists and was busy even around 11am on Monday.
It was a bit challenge that I stayed there with relaxed feeling as JK Rowling said, but it’s worth visiting to taste good coffee and cakes, and see the atmosphere where she wrote the Harry Potter!
Not sure why many bad reviews. Food was amazing (had the Scottish pancakes with bacon and syrup and the scone with clotted cream and jam). Super fresh, tasty and good size! Prices are reasonable. And I got JKR’s same table with lovely views and peaceful around. I just loved it! Yes, you’ll have to bear the stares from the rest of the people around that will just want you gone to have the table

We were lucky to stop when we did. It was about 11 a.m. and the lunch crowds had not descended yet. Usually when we walked past, the place was crowded. We decided to stop for an early bite to eat. I knew a bit about the history of the place; how J.K. Rowling had started writing Harry Potter here. The waitress asked if we wanted front or back, we chose back. The view of Greyfriars Kirk and Edinburgh castle and the university is visible from back there. We chose a small table by the window. The lunch menu was not out yet, so we had hot chocolate and porridge. The porridge came with honey and milk. The hot chocolate was the perfect size, not too big and not too small. The waitress was very chatty and when we asked where Ms. Rowling sat when she wrote, she said, "Right here at this window." Couldn't believe our luck! You have to visit the bathrooms. People leave their mark and devotion to Harry Potter in there. The place was warm and cosy and the view was fantastic. Perfect views of Edinburgh castle and the graveyard. Definitely stop in early before the crowds start coming.

The place is nice and most of the staff are nice except one female waitress with long dark hair and she was wearing the red uniform (not the Chinese girl). I was at the place at 3pm, once I was seated I raised my hand up to my head ( which is really low-key) to get her attention. She was standing by the toilet, chatting with another male waiter. After she saw me, instead of coming to the table she turned to the waiter and clearly was discussing about my gesture as I saw her copied my raising hand gesture to the male waiter which I find is really rude. I can understand if she finds the gesture is uncommon to her culture or what so ever, but was it really necessary to copy me?
And as I’m writing this up, she also wondered towards the back of the house by their private room, she was peeking there as one of the waiter and supervisor (possibly manageress?) were talking in there. I thought her attention and focus should be on customers?
It’s such a cool place as the birthplace of Harry Potter, please don’t let the poor service disappoint millions of HP fans.
Good hearty breakfast. Nice staff. Friendly atmosphere. Good location for the market. They make a very good breakfast omelette.

I absolutely loved this little cafe hidden in Saffron Alden. Not only is the food beautiful to see but it's absolutely yummy too! The choice is overbearing and mouth watering.
The staff are friendly and welcoming. I had the mushroom and stilton quiche with salad and then a millionaire's shortbread, delicious!
Definitely go there if you have the chance!

I go there quite often, I've tried almost the entire menu. They have a 50% discount on a wide selection of items on the menu (all starters, burgers and pizzas and most mains) for students from Monday to Friday and for everyone on Sundays! The quality is usually pretty decent too! For example the Nachos comes at only £2.50 with the discount and burgers and pizzas are between £5 and £6 :)
I liked a lot: Nachos, the Italian Pizza, Fat Cat Burger.
I really didn't like: the fish&chips, king prawn linguine.
