After living for 8 years in China, I miss spicy Sichuan and Hunan food. Found this place while on holiday in York - enjoyed food and service. Great place !

You must try their Chinese food, it’s amazing and better than other popular restaurants around. Their service is super friendly and kind lady added soup and serve us fruits for free.
Mr.s. Maggie is really nice and accommodating. I went there twice and the food was just great. It's clean and the owner subtlety observes her clients to see who needs help/assistance/servicing. Will return again!
This all-you-can-eat hotpot restaurant exceeded my expectations. The soup base was flavourful, savoury, and perfect for dipping. There were numerous meal alternatives available, including fresh vegetables, high-quality meats, seafood, and a wide range of noodles. The selection allowed me to easily customise my dish to my liking! The staff was extremely pleasant and attentive, ensuring that everything was refilled promptly. Overall, it's one of the best hotpot locations I've tried, and I'll definitely return!
Took my son for his 16th birthday … the staff was attentive and very polite .. the lady that served us was friendly .. we had the set menu for 2 … so much food but my son demolished it.. it was plenty full & even gave us a doggy bag to take home ..
The service was very slow, this place really sucks . Staff are super rude, my food took over an hour to arrive, the noodles was stuck together and cold when it arrived, the service was terrible as well, because their low quality and unreasonable packaging, such a lousy restaurant, the subpar service I encountered that day made me reconsider further visit to this restaurant. God have mercy on your soul if you eat there.

We went there for an early dinner at 16:30, not many people so the service was quick and great. Foods are ok and prices are reasonable. Only with many mosquitoes which was quite annoying while you are eating.
Came here all the time as a child and still come back whenever I get the chance as it is to this day my favourite restaurant ever and the best Chinese food I've had outside of china.
Ate here again a few days ago and our food arrived very quickly and was even better than I remembered. This place never disappoints.

Lat time went there was before pandemic with quite good impression but this time was just so so. Food was not expensive but nothing exciting and quantity was small. Suprisely quiet around 7pm.

Nothing short of amazing. We had dinner with our kids last night (27/06/24) and it was one of the best meals we have had during our holiday. We had just come back from Europe and needed a taste explosion and this restaurant did not disappoint. The prawns with garlic were an absolute stand out. Service was wonderful, so attentive and helpful. Kids loved it and so did we!
Four of us came in to dine and the food was so so good! Highly recommend. Kind service too. We had dumplings, smacked cucumber, sizzling fish, pan choy, morning glory - all so well seasoned, just the right side of spicy, and delicious! Make the time to go!
Amazing! Service and food were superb, portions are generous and the menu is vast with a fantastic selection of authentic dishes. One of our party ordered the seabass and a whole fish was served! That's very generous and it was absolutely delicious. Good value for money and arguably the best chinese restaurant I have ever eaten. Can't wait to book again when we come back next year! Went mid week for early evening. It was quiet, nobody else in. Got three dishes and some starters. Starters were reasonable, the mains came out and the Chinese style roasted duck was definitely off. As you can see in pictures the duck is shining like salmon because it had gone off. The other picture shows the very hard pieces which were also foul. Must have been at least 4+ days old.

I've ordered Stir Fried Prawns with Ginger and Spring Onions and I've received one of the lowest quality possible replica of the Thai version of it. They've used Onions (a lot of them) and a Chinese sauce that is awful.
If you want cheap Thai food replica in the 'classic' Chinese style (like with everything else Made in China), then, dine in this restaurant. I will never again!!!

I’ve eaten here three times already and was very satisfied every time. Had the vegan chow mein twice and vegan Singapore noodles and they were both really deicious and authentic. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but the surrounding area, Finsbury square and the City have some spectaculous architecture.
We had our CNY lunch here and were so so happy. Having lived in China for many years we know the food extremely well. The staff were very friendly and continually took care of us. Judy was our waitress, she did a fantastic job making some great recommendations. We were also looked after by “Uncle”, he was very friendly too. Our food was exceptional. We had multiple dishes between 3 of us, all were superb, my favourite was Judy’s recommended Sea Bass with pickled mustards in a lovely soup.

Food was delicious. Service was good. The place was clean. I highly recommend the Dan Dan noodles and the pounded aubergine. Dumplings were tasty but there’s better in London.
My husband and I had an excellent meal here and are so excited to come back and further explore the menu. No wonder this place is always full - the taste of the food speaks for itself and the service is great. I recommend getting a table booked!
Amazingly delicious spicy MaPo Tofu and Wok Chicken. The fried rice and Shanghai dumplings are very nice too.
The staff are very good and relaxed, and I had a few nice chats with the staff in English and also in Mandarin.

Top notch Chinese restaurant in London focusing on Sichuan cuisine. Well organised and popular, you'll find a large selection of Sichuan dishes (Gong Bao J'ai Ding, Mapo Dofu, Dan Dan Mian...). The dishes are well balanced without being over poweringly spicy, not too oily and well portioned to ensure you order a few dishes to share. If you can't finish your food, take it home. Reservations recommended (it's busy and they'll want the tablets back). It's London prices but great value for the quality. A great Chinese restaurant.

The chicken feet were probably my least favorite — I loved the crunchy texture and that they were already cut off the bone, but a little too much on the sweet side. Maybe they can be ordered in a different sauce?

I had a delightful experience at Ma La Taste of Sichuan! The atmosphere was charming, the food was superb and reasonably priced. The customer service was exceptional, ensuring a top-notch dining experience. I'm looking forward to returning!
Nice clean restaurant with very fast service. Kung pao and duck pancakes were very tasty. Dry hotpot was also enjoyable. Good portion sizes all round too :)
Was at Shoreditch for a week, frequented this restaurant 3 times. I must say the food taste very good and service crew were very friendly and attentive. Would defo go again if in the area!

Very delicious food, and a great atmosphere. The service was really good and the waiter was very nice and helpful. I especially liked the chicken and the frog legs. Price is good and portions are very generous. Recommend to anyone wanting delicious Chinese food
Incredible sichuan food, with a wide variety of tasty dishes ranging from familiar staples like Crispy Duck to more exotic fayre like Spicy Pigs Knuckle or Chicken in a Pile of Chillies (exactly what it says on the tin). You won't be disappointed. 😊 The atmosphere is buzzing, bustling and fun, whilst the waiters are all very friendly, attentive and welcoming. In particular, the lovely Leslie makes regulars and newcomers alike feel very special, working hard to make one feel at home. We always have a great time at this restaurant, and thoroughly recommend a visit. 👌

Genuinely good service, clearly the chefs and serving staff care about customers. I got that impression by the way the couple on table next to us had a confusion with ordering and the chef came out to get a better idea of what they wanted, and was extremely friendly and polite.

Absolutely delightful dining experience! The spicy and aromatic flavors of the 'mao xue wang' and 'shui zhu yu' were outstanding, and the 'gan bian si ji dou' was perfectly crispy. Warm service, comfortable ambiance—a truly enjoyable culinary journey!
This place is very nice. The food is spicy, but Sichuan style, so it doesn't burn your mouth like Thai spice. We ordered the stir fried beef, the fish and the mouth watering chicken. All three were tasty. I also recommend ordering a wanglaoji drink if you are not used to spice, as it's very soothing. We would certainly come again.
Beautiful. Arguably the best Chinese meal I have ever eaten in my life. We visited every night of our stay in York simply due to how large the menu is, and how fantastic the food was. Genuinely a must visit

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Jinli. We saw Mary Berry here on bbc and had to try it. I’ve not experienced Chinese food like this before. The flavours in each dish and quality of ingredients are worlds apart from what I have been used to. Will definitely be back soon and will be recommending Jinli without doubt.
Enjoyed the pork very much. Water mouth chicken (chicken in spicy sauce) is all good and nice presentation, just know that it's cold before you order. Dan Dan noodles wasn't done in the Shanghai way with peanut but it's still hearty the way they do it. Stirred flied morning glory (vegie) and Singapore style vicemelii done very cloe to perfection.

Lovely spot near Westminster. Excellent food that won't burn a hole in your pocket. The place stays true to its name and serves up authentic Sichuan dishes like sea bass in hot oil. They also have a delectable selection of dim sum. Worth the trip!
The current owner has turned this place into an absolute gem. Easily one of the tastiest and most consistent takeaways in Walden.
Came for hotpot and had a great time. Good value for money considering the quality of the food and that you can order as much as you like! Very tempting but we were stuffed after our first round. Servers were friendly and attentive, although we did come quite early for dinner and began to pick up as we were leaving. Would happily come back for hotpot again or try some meals on the regular menu.
Dishes are fairly spicy and tasty. I visited the restaurant twice in last 2 weeks. Their service is good however it can be improved if waiters/waitresses are more friendly and relaxed. The vibe was quite cold and stressful to me.

I really like Sichuan dishes, so I went to this Sichuan restaurant for the first time and I am very pleased. The food was as good as I expected it to be, the Mapo tofu was delicious! Ginger lamb was also very tasty! We were served very quickly by friendly waiters. There was a very nice atmosphere and the restaurant is clean. I recommend
I really enjoyed the food. Proper shizuan. Good value for money. Very kind staff . The only thing is the fact they bring normal plates to serve rice and not bowls which is a bit weird. Overall great experience 👍
I had an incredible dining experience at Bar Shu. It truly stands out as the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. The Cantonese noodles, sweet and sour chicken, and spring rolls were all outstanding. The ordering process, where you fill out a paper, was efficient, and the prices were very reasonable. What truly made the experience exceptional was the fantastic food and impeccable service. I highly recommend Bar Shu to anyone seeking an unforgettable Chinese cuisine adventure.

The environment was a bit crowded. We went on a weekday but it was still quite packed. Nonetheless, the food was pretty delicious and reasonably priced.
We ordered the stir fried cabbage, garlic pork belly slices, pork intestine and fish hotpot and chilli lamb. Overall, the food was quite good especially the cabbage. The fish hotpot was slightly too salty but really hit the spot with the amount of chilli and sichuan peppercorn.
Will definitely come back when I crave spicy food!

Ordered the sliced sea bass with fresh chillies and sichuan peppercorn (regular size) which is a big portion for 2 people. The fish is fresh and not fishy. It’s not as spicy as expected though.

This lovely and neatly decorated little restaurant is located in a quiet street of Westminster. Despite the quiet street, it was quite busy and lovely on a Friday yet not so noisy that we couldn’t have a conversation.
We ordered a range of dishes, ie pickled mustard fish soup (super spicy and very original), fried rice, noodles, water spinach, dim sum platter, gong pao chicken, cumin lamb, sweet & sour prawns and braised pork. We also had the vegetarian set menu and the restaurant was very accommodating in going the extra mile in leaving certain ingredients out for vegan eaters. We orders so much food that we had to take some home. The waitress serving us was extremely helpful and friendly.
Overall, we enjoyed the meal and had a lovely evening. I would certain go back.

This restaurant was the best one in Chinatown, so delicious food and amazing service here, I am really enjoy the dinner, thanks let me know such fancy Chinese food!!!!
After aimlessly walking around Chinatown several times me and my wife finally chose this place. I got the prawn chow mein and it was ok. Didn’t seem to have much flavor but was still good. Wife got the Szechuan chicken and it was delicious but unfortunately it did not come with any rice. Later discovered that you can order rice as a side for £4.
Lamb chops ✔ Crispy baked lamb chops texture, the amount is really big, there are pictures of the truth. The outer skin is baked until crispy, usually I don't love lamb I clicked, fragrant but not greasy, the most important thing is that there is no stinky smell of lamb.

It's the king's elbow that I've been longing for, and it's true to its name. The whole thing is really big, and the four of us almost couldn't finish it. Soft and smooth, chopsticks gently peeled off the bone, the cortex part of the melt in the mouth, the meat is clear but not firewood, stewed super tasty, the soup can not be missed, promise me must be a mouthful of rice a mouthful of meat, the juice overflowing, to ensure that you eat the belly of the big round satisfaction, eat still want to eat!

Food was delicious, but the service was awful. The prices shown on menu were different from the ordering system, also the service charge was also higher than the menu, from 10% to 12.5%. The staff charged us more than we supposed to pay. And a lot of drama when we checked the bill with the staff, he yelled at us and said that they didn't charge us more. But actually he did, and he even didn't give us discount when we paid cash (should be 10% off if pay cash). The female staff tried to settle and refunded £5 to us. They didn’t even give us the receipt. REMEMBER to check the bill before paying.

The staff is amazing, the food was delicious and came out so fast.
We had veg dumplings, chicken fried rice, ma po tofu, beef with veg, mochi and banana fritters. All wonderful.

An amazing dining experience at one of the best Sichuan restaurants just off Chinatown in London. Remember to reserve your table in advance as this place can get busy even on weekdays.
Look out for favourites such as mouth-watering chicken, Chongqing noodles, authentic Sichuan fried chicken, twice-cooked pork belly and Sichuan fried green beans to get a taste of real Chinese cuisine.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had! The flavors were amazing. The portions generous. We loved every dish. We weren’t crazy about the salt and pepper pork ribs because they were too dry. Everything else was a 10/10.
I would give Chongqing noodles with minced pork a 1 out of 10- super dry, and the type of noodle is not the authentic one. Doesn’t tastes like ‘Xiaomian’ at all!

Fast service, efficient staff and delicious food. This is where you can eat truly authentic Chinese food. However the prices are extremely high, costing us almost £100 between two people.
First time trying the restaurant and we haven't been disappointed. We have ordered a lot of dishes which were nice but on some I will leave them out as we did ordered too much. Our favourite it was the prawns with broccoli, vegetables with noodles and the morning glory. The service was attentive and the place was clean.

June 2023: Friendly service, good portions and tasty food. Typical traditional 'British Chinese' takeaway. The satay chicken skewers were excellent!
September 2023: We've continued to use this takeaway this year and have been impressed with the consistent quality they've maintained! Have worked through a lot of the menu now and nothing has disappointed. Best Cantonese-style baozi we've ever had outside of HK.

First time here and the food was amazingly delicious. Not overseasoned or anything. Well done. The duck was juicy and tasted superb. The noodles we had blew us away with the flavor. 👏 😋
We was so impressed with the dedication and the professionalism of the staff.
They were very attentive to the needs of the customer and made sure that my wife's teapot was refilled.
We enjoyed dining here and hoping to come back here on our next visit to London. Highly recommended.

Good food at a reasonable price! Friendly staff. We ordered mixed Dim Sum, traditional cold appetizers and Dan Dan noodles. The food was spicy and delicious with generous portions. Would go again!
Went there withe family.. We ordered sweet and sour soup (no pork) and vegetable tofu soup, stir fried veg and chicken dumplings for starters, then veg noodles, beef with vegs and boiled rice and scallops with ginger and green onions with egg fried rice. The hot and sour soup was really nice, needed a little more vinegar to my taste, the other soup was very mild in flavor, the dumplings were very good and the mixed vegs were as expected. The noodles lacked flavor, the beef and boiled rice were good and I really liked the scallops and ginger and the egg fried rice was excellent... Good overall, nothing special, the service was acceptable. Not a keeper but an OK to try.

It also cannot ignore the disgusting and horrible service attitude from the staff to Mandarin speaker customers. We might have other better and reasonable price option when you hang out within Brick Lanes. The dish quality between different types dish are not as ok as same, someone might be too salty and need to drink more water after meal.

I found the food average for England, bad for London and terrible for China. Don’t bring your Chinese friends here. We were there early and maybe they weren’t on their best. The decoration is strange too but in the end knit the food matters.
The fish was dry, over battered, under-sauced, and difficult to pick the flesh from. It was like a poor quality fried chicken batter.
Tofu was plain and oily, passable but not good.
On the really bad side, the dumplings came out cold in the center, but with a nice bit of spicy oil. I sent them back and they were heated up. But, in what just have been revenge, the chef seemingly added dirty dishwasher to the broth. It was awful.

Always a pleasure going to Red Chilli! There's a great variety to choose from and definitely authentic.
Think the layout of the restaurant is great and it's ideal for family and friends gatherings. This will enable you to share more food and get to try out lots of different dishes together. It can be very intimate too as it has various seating arrangements.

A solo Saturday evening and Ma Po was as good as ever. The Dim Sum Platter to start was just right for one. I went double on starters with Hot and Sour soup which was not too hot (thankfully) and was really tasty. Duck with egg fried rice was washed down with a couple of Tiger beers. Having been a regular for many years with a long break until today I was pleased to see the food quality was as good as ever and won't be leaving it so long to visit again.
Good food. Only had a takeaway twice but both times we've been pleased. New year's Eve was a bit of a fiasco (waited an hour and a half for food) but more down to the ordering app not limiting the number of customers than the restaurant themselves.

We ordered our take away on New Year's Eve, using the "all eat" app.
You select your collection time, we chose 7.30pm.
On arrival there was about 20 people in the queue also waiting for their order! And it was freezing!
There was no order to prioritising customer orders.
My husband waited until 8.15pm before just having to abandon any hope of receiving our food.
Nobody came out to talk to their customers and explain what was going on!?
Their website is clearly unmanaged and just let's endless amounts of people order..... It would appear EVERYONE chose the 7.30pm slot for collection!
I imagine an awful lot of other people went without their Takeaway too.
The one saving grace was that I had received a refund without any contact with them.
I can't even review the food as we never got it!

Had to wait nearly an hour and a half for an average 4 dish sized order and when collected there were no free veg spring rolls as advertised. When I asked the lady was told she can give me prawn crackers instead (from a mountain of bags that had been there for how long?) When I declined had to wait another 10 mins whilst they cooked them. Food was so so, quite oliy and salty but no more than a lot of takeaways, portions not huge and meat content a bit light. Biggest issues were the Ho Fun which was just an undercooked mount of stuck together thick noodles and my request for no prawns in the Singapore vermicelli was completely ignored and good job it was not for allergy reasons! Wont be going back i am afraid.
Ordered at 6.30 by phone, told collection at 7.30 . Arrived at 7.25 had to wait until 8.15 to collect my order as there was already 12 people waiting most was told collect at 7.30. Got my order home. No sweet & sour sauce for chicken balls. Also as we spent over £10 & £20 we should of received fortune cookies and 10 spring rolls free. We spent £51.00 These also wasn’t in our order .
As we were in lockdown they only took cash no cards . Which I thought strange as it’s non contact payment !!

The food is consistently rather good especially with the vast range of dishes they offer. Each are cooked uniquely with full of flavour so always nice to try something new.
The fried green beans are of worthy note, has all the spicy and fragrant taste you should expect from this dish.
The pressed bean curd with coriander is also very good and worth a try, it's got a fresh and slightly tangy flavour that helps cleanse the palette.
Their roasted meats, duck pork and char siu are nicely done, succulent with lots of juicy flavours.
The Dan Dan noodles though lacked much flavour and saltiness but the noodle texture was good.
Overall the service was good, and the food was very good with great value for money! Would recommend dining here on any occasion.
