Best Dim sum restaurants in Indonesia

Venturing into the JW Marriott for their famed Sunday Dim Sum Brunch at the Pearl Chinese Restaurant presents an intriguing dichotomy of charm and challenge. The hotel, adorned with somewhat dated decor, nonetheless offers a certain nostalgic allure not commonly found in more modern establishments.

Value was a driving factor in choosing this venue, particularly due to a tempting 'buy 1 get 1 free' offer. However, initial excitement was dampened by slight discrepancies between the promotional materials and the actual offering. Promises of lobster and xiao long bao prominently featured on their Instagram were conspicuously absent during our visit, leading to a somewhat disappointing start.

The dining experience was further marred by service that unfortunately did not meet expectations. Particular note must be made of a staff member in a golden cheongsam who, though efficiently clearing our table of dishes, did so with a demeanor that was more icy than inviting. An interaction requesting a simple tea refill was met with a curt response and, ultimately, no refill – a basic expectation unmet.

On a more troubling note, the brunch was overshadowed by a lapse in hygiene standards that one would not anticipate at a Marriott establishment. Discovering a strand of hair in a steamed egg yolk bao is disconcerting and unacceptable. While both the manager and chef were prompt in their apologies, such an incident does raise concerns about overall food safety practices.

While the aging charm of the hotel holds a quaint appeal, and the pricing structure (under promotional conditions) appears attractive, these factors are overshadowed by the execution of service and food quality concerns. Significant improvements are necessary, both in updating the decor to bring it into the modern age and enhancing the food selection and safety protocols. Until such changes are implemented, it may be difficult to justify a return visit to Pearl Chinese Restaurant at the JW Marriott.

I came here to attend invitation of traditional chinese engagement called Shangjit by my family, the atmosphere and decoration was nice and luxurious for that particular event.
However i would like to suggest to improve the food taste.

Pearl Restaurant is a Chinese food restaurant in JW Marriott Jakarta. They also provide all you can eat dimsum brunch that is available every Saturday and Sunday, from 11.30 AM - 3 PM without time limit.

For adult, the cost is IDR 539,798 NETT / Pax. There's an interesting promo, too! If you do the reservation via Chope, then you'll get buy 1 get 1 free. What a great deal to have pork dimsum buffet in a 5 star hotel, isn't it? 😉

The restaurant isn't that big, but it's comfortable to bring family. The comfortable private room is available as well.

For this Weekend Dimsumlicious Brunch, there are appetizer (jelly fish, beef shank, baby octopus, salad), live station (laksa, turnip cake XO sauce), BBQ station my favorite indeed! 😋 (BBQ honey pork, crispy pork belly, pork rib herbs sauce, HongKong roast duck, Hokkian Noodle), main course (mayonnaise shrimp, sweet sour fish, vegetable garlic, beef blackpepper), variant of steamed and deep fried dimsum, congee, and desserts.

Here are my recommendations :
- BBQ Honey Pork
- Paikut (pork ribs)
- Turnip Cake XO Sauce
- Red Bean Soup with Glutinous Rice Ball that is filled with black sesame (serve them together!)
- Laksa Noodle

As a guest at RC we didn’t have the accurate information concerning the restaurant opening time pak Agus and the chef from Malaysia however was extremely helpful and served us a very nice lunch. Thank you for your service

Food was delicious, staff was not friendly, not bad. There were many family gathering for lunch on Christmas day. Enjoyed dimsum lunch without advanced booking.

Amazing food with quality service from the staff. Atmosphere is great too with their decor. Would 100% recommend their mee suah and quail. Exceeded all expectations, if only I could rate above 5 stars!

Best xiaolongbao (soup dumpling) in town. This branch has no pork no lard on their menu. Place was packed with families. We ordered big portion of xiaolongbao (chicken), prawn fried rice in X.O. sauce, kangkung belacan, spicy and sour soup, mala fried chicken and mapo tofu. All were awesome. Service was also great.

Comfort food, all egg fried rice, sour and sweet chicken and xiao long bao very good.

Room was cold, too cold i think, the waiter was friendly and food was quickly served however the food taste average, i ordered all dimsum and taste just average just like warming the frozen dimsum. The disc 50% for dimsum was only for monday and other day only 30%, with the tax and services, its like without discount

food was good, ambience good, but too bad some female staff here lack of smile, and also this time i found something inside meatball soup, found it after all the meatball gone, despite the price here, next time maybe should be more careful, if a little kid eat this they woulnt notice it

One of the few finest Chinese Restaurant in Surabaya in my opinion.

They used to operate at smaller building next to the current building. It was always full and then they were expanding and built 2 storey building restaurant which now used as their main restaurant. 2nd storey is a big hall to held a party such as marriage ceremony. Elevator is available.

The first building actually still can be used but not as daily operation.

Tastewise, it is classy, it is smooth, it is tasty, it is delicious.
Especially their DimSum.. love it!
Their Chicken Feet DimSum is just simply topnotch.

Pricewise, how to say it.. it is not cheap but it is worth it.
Staff attendees are fast and very responsive.

Have been a regular customer since their first restaurant opened.

Tastes marvelous but oh lord the price. Wont dine here routinely, maybe only for special family occasions. Comfy place. Friendly staff. Parking spot limited.
Recommended dishes: sapi lada hitam (10/10), chong fan cakue, tahu sutra (i forgot, some kind of tofu with mushrooms on top), ikan gurame asam manis, bakpau pasir mas.

Ming Garden is famous as one of legit Chinese food restaurant in town since years ago. The price is on the high range but it is a restaurant so understandable. They offer various Dimsum menu. You can book VIP rooms for small group. I believe there are lots of delicious menu. But try the kolobak, it's delicious. The shrimp in the bamboo is also amazing. A bit of input: please improve the xiao long bao quality, it's not the proper xiailongbao without the broth pops, and the skin is too thick. Overall is good for sure.

This place is one of our family’s favorite spot for bebek panggang (roast duck). Definitely 5 stars for the roast duck. The Chinese food here is pretty good too. Another favorite from our family is the fried grouper with sweet and sour sauce, the kailan with garlic, and the sapo tofu. The staffs are helpful and attentive. They refilled our tea frequently. We spent a little over 1 million rupiah for the meal and got 500,000 rupiah voucher to be used by the end of May. The restaurant is clean, however, the temperature is a bit too hot for me 😆 They offer free refill for hot and cold tea.

Always love Din Tai Fung. This time I tried their spinach noodle with Szechuan Beef. Tasty!

The foods here are very good, the service is excellent. They also have live music at night. The price is fair for the portion and taste. Overall very satisfied and will come again.

So glad we visited Din Tai Fung. My first experience and definitely worth the try. We ordered half serving of duck, two nasi hainan, salted egg bao and tofu served with soy sauce and mushroom. Duck was so tasty, soft and juicy. Portion was great. And for the tofu, it was amazing. So soft and well seasoned, as well as the mushroom.
Din Tai Fung also provides great ambiance, suitable for either large family gathering or even for a date. Would like to visit again later on

One of my favourite chinese restaurant. The have a lot of noodles selection, xiao long bao, and other chinese dishes. place was also impeccably clean and well sanitised with all servers following COVID protocols. The service was also nice and the food was delicious, would definitely come back! :)

Din tai fung just cant go wrong when it comes to chain-chinese restaurant in Jakarta. Wide selection of foods, fair price, ample seatings although it could be very crowded during lunch break. Ordered the beef, the nasi goreng, the famous dumplings the chicken and all sort of other menus.

Value for money. Food is pretty good here.

Food and service is good but environment is miserable.

They still deliver their signature flavour and texture with their roast assortments. They had a lot of items unavailable, likely because they don't have enough patrons to justify making the intricate items on the menu. Seems like they get less than 10 tables in one night.

The place smells like damp drainage. I suspect it's all the rainwater humidity trapped in the ceiling. It's in desperate need for a complete overhaul.

Had a family lunch here, the restaurant was quite packed so the manager suggested us to take the 2nd level restaurant. The restaurant ambience is like ordinary chinese ballroom.

They served many variants for dimsum and they tasted quite delicious. Their main course were also quite delicious eventhough they were pricey for the small portion. Don’t hesitate to ask for the price of menu as they don’t have price list on their book menu especially for the beverages.

Need some improvement in the service area. We ordered additional white rices that only served after all the food was finished. Also, some of the food was served after we asked for it over and over again.

One of our fave place to get dim sum and pigeon soup. The shrimps on the hakao, siew mai, and cheong fun were all fresh, crunchy, and big. The size and portion of the dim sum were good, everything came perfectly steamed. The tea was also nice, and uniquely served with a long teapot. The bbq rice was also yummy, the meat was juicy and tender. We also ordered Hong Kong style noodle, which was beyond our expectation. They use small thin noodle, and it was cooked similar to the one we had in Hong Kong. Place was comfortable, people were helpful and friendly, a fave! Will definitely be back.

Came to Pearl a couple of times recently. One was for their weekend auce dim sum and the other was for a regular dinner. Their auce dim sum was well worth it especially if you got a good buy-1 get-1 deal from Chope. Unlimited roasted duck and pork belly were my faves.

Was also happy with their dinner meals. Ordered the Sichuan crispy fried chicken and it tasted good although I thought that they should have added more of the numbing pepper to give some extra kick. Roasted duck and tofu were satisfactory also.

The staff were attentive and friendly also.

It's an okay place to enjoy Chinese food. The food tasted good enough, nothing spectacular, some too oily. They used common ingredients and old recipe for each dish. The environment felt old, furniture and decoration placement looked a little messy.

Bad service. The servant really bad in raking order, so slow in serving & not talk at all. 7:30pm 2 servants having fun n laugh. While very hard to have tea refill n empty plate to be taken away. Too expensive. Not recommend.

Came here on weekdays.
Place and ambience : super calm with chinese restaurant vibes.
During this pandemic, they served fork, spoon on hot water to prevent virus and mantain cleanliness.

We tried their Siomay, Hakau, Tofo Skin with shrimp, and Sup Jagung. All yummy! Chinese tea also served with long teko just like thai teko for teh tarik. Unique and pleasant experience here! This place provide halal food so dont worry to come here and taste their yummy & good quality of dimsum.

Quite good Chinese food here. We enjoyed the broccoli and scallops, fried crab claws, and fried shrimp, all delicious. We have some other foods to bring home too. Priced on the high side but worth it.

awesome chinese restaurant especially to enjoy dinner with your family. the food tastes so good. fast and nice services from the staffs. 1st floor and 2nd floor are set for the dining restaurant. 3rd floor is ballroom for any occassion like wedding, engagement, birthday party, anniversary, etc.

Service is alright. Food portion is good. Priced reasonably. Taste good except the Shanghai soup dumplings. The dumplings skin peeled so easily and the soup would leaked out, I guess probably the there's no gap between the dumplings hence they stick together.

Coming here at almost 21.00 pm at Pearl Chinese restaurant, I’ve got no expectations from the start before coming. But here they have variety of foods which taste good, especially compared to my experience of staying in HK for last 2 years.

Here I pick up Chinese fried shrimp in cream sauce, very very scrumptious taste of sauce with big 8 prawns,served in a long blue plate. Not to mention their superb service.
This plate is about ideal 198 K which is about right price with such a good ambience and music.

A pot of tea is provided also.....That really make a wonderful night for me...

Wait... more of surprise, a cup of coconut pudding is offered to me on the house as extra complimentary.

Nice chinese food restaurant in Jakarta. Always almost full in dine hour. The pork menu is almost the best, the other menu is so so... the price middle high, the place is chinese restaurant style. The service is good. If the car parking is full, try at Jayakarta Hotel parking building, beside the restaurant.

Very strategic location but lack of parking lot. Weekend always rush hour time even you already booked. This non halal upscale chinese restaurant that quite pricey. Most of their food are yummy. It's suitable gathering place than hangout place.

I was just passing by this place and decided to give it a try. When the foods arrived, I was quite surprised with the foods, they were simply amazing. The szechuan chicken, which is like pop corn chicken, was very crispy and tasty 🥰 and the hongkong fried rice is also amazing! I cant just get enough of it. The dimsums itsels were also good, and there are a variety of it. In addition, the prices were also quite affordable. The foods are good, price are good, and portions are great. Very recommended!

Great Chinese restaurant with diverse range of dishes including dim sum. The dishes can be ordered in small, medium or large size. The frog and eel dishes are sublime and highly recommended. Service are courteous and helpful.

I will give them 5 stars few years ago, but now they need some improvement on the quality, the place and the service itself. At first i received bad suikiaw on my kari suikiaw, but they don't feel bad at all and make it seems normal.

Good food, tight space.

First time entering the restaurant, i feel it's very cramped inside. Live music available at the back end corner of the restaurant. Second floor is available for parties or open when first floor is full.

Food quality is good, a standard of Central Restaurant. Vegetarian menu ia also available.

Nice food, nice location. Service could be better, I order food but it never serve & after a very long wait I ask another waitress... she checked then answer that the food were sold out, why make customer have to wait for food that were sold out in the begining

The taste of food is quite standard, quality of food is not that fresh, price is quite expensive, this restaurant offer lots of promotion and discount. Very hard to find parking. Good for families with children and meeting spot. I would suggest to use a driver or local transport to get to the restaurant.

The beef noodles were refined. All our food was excellent. The salted egg pao's were nice. The duck was juiced & fatty. Dumplings were satisfying. Thai tea frappe, I'm gonna take you home!

Food tasted delicious, cooked with fresh and premium ingredients. But, the roast duck it's not the usual serving method, it's drenched with sauce so the skin it's not crispy, but the meat was still moist. Only downside was the expensive price for what you got.
