One of the best-preserved forts in Iran.
Without a question one of the most magnificent sites I have ever visited. The lush landscape is just astonishing and the history of the site is truly captivating. There are Many stairs and not very accessible unfortunately but multiple vantage points to visit the site.
A must see place. The oldest water systems built. Parking available.

One of the most beautiful historical works and I wish more efforts were made to preserve it.
The tallest brick tower in the World is Mil-e Gonbad which dates back to 4th century AH. The Mil and surrounding area is beautiful to visit and if you have time, don't miss it at night, too.

I recently visited Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the city of Ardabil, Iran. The shrine is the tomb of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili, a Sufi saint who founded the Safavid order of Islam. The shrine complex is a vast and impressive complex, with a number of different buildings, including a mosque, a mausoleum, a library, and a museum.

The shrine is beautifully decorated with intricate tilework, calligraphy, and woodwork. The mausoleum is particularly impressive, with a soaring dome and a beautifully carved mihrab. The mosque is also worth visiting, with its delicate stained glass windows and its intricate prayer rugs.

The shrine complex is a peaceful and serene place, and it is a great place to learn about the history of Sufism and the Safavid dynasty. I highly recommend visiting Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili Shrine if you are ever in Ardabil, Iran.

Here are some additional details about my visit:

I visited the shrine in the morning, and it was not crowded at all. I was able to wander around the complex at my own pace and take in all the sights and sounds.
The staff at the shrine were very friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer my questions about the shrine and the Safavid dynasty.
I spent about two hours at the shrine, and I felt like I had enough time to see everything. However, if you are interested in learning more about the history of the shrine and the Safavid dynasty, you could easily spend more time there.
Overall, I had a great experience visiting Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili Shrine. It is a beautiful and historic place, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about Sufism or the Safavid dynasty.
An amazing place to visit in Ardebil including various parts of Sufi community called Khanghah. This complex also contains an elegant Chinese utensils museum gifted to the king of Iran by Chinese emperor of the time. Museum guides were absolutely 💯 professional and knowledgeable. I certainly recommend its visit.

Anahita's temples, very very ancient places for worshipping!
It's a small nice place, there are some shops which are selling Ferozeh of Neshabour and a big shop for selling antic goods, 2 museums wildlife and one other museum, they are small places but worth to visit once if you are there. There is no café or tea house...
A hidden gem without parallel!!! Temple of Anahita, is in fact an unidentified structure in Bishapour, deeper than the other rooms of the palace. The structure, with its pleasant, harmonious dimensions, can only be reached by descending a long stairway. Once you've descended the stairway, you will find yourself on a small square, surrounded by high walls. The square itself must have been an undeep pool, surrounded by sidewalks. The doors in the walls give access to a corridor that surrounded the square, and which in turn gave access to the place where the aqueduct reached this square building. Highly recommended!!!
The most touching spot in southwest of iran.
Amazing set of temples which unfortunately destroyed by king of assyrian ....

Shadorvan Bridge is a historical bridge located in the city of Shushtar in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, Iran. It was built during the Sassanian era (224-651 AD) and is considered one of the oldest standing bridges in Iran. The bridge spans the Karun River and connects the eastern and western banks of the river.

The bridge is made of stone and has 40 arches, each of which is about 6 meters wide. The length of the bridge is approximately 500 meters and it is about 14 meters wide. The bridge was built to facilitate the transportation of goods and people between the two banks of the river. The name "Shadorvan" means "100 gates", which refers to the numerous arches on the bridge.

The Shadorvan Bridge is an important historical site and a popular tourist attraction in Shushtar. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and part of the larger Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System, which includes several other historic structures and water management systems in the area.
A very beautiful magnificent temple in the middle of Dur Untash city.
The temple is Built about 1250 years BC.
It is located in a very green and idyllic area.
In 1979, Chogha Zanbil became the first Iranian site to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
If you look at google maps you will see that there are many historical palaces and houses around it with different distances from the main temple, but unfortunately there isn't any pavements to reach them.
A Weird Archaeological site on earth ! amazing handmade river inside the city center.
A very beautiful place with kind people, it was an interesting experience. Although these structures are older than some countries, they are still working and this is very interesting

Ancient place with about 7000 years old . Unfortunately is very much neglected and not cared. But loved to see it
The landmark itself is mysterious and a true masterpiece
However, don't expect anything more than the building
No guidance, not much information
Also, the entrance fee is very cheap and apparently free for children
The place is accessible for people who use a wheelchair but the path is not safe at all
In fact the path to the landmark is not very safe for anyone

I was impressed by this ancient ziggurat. It's a must-see place for those who love archeology. I suggest the visitors have an umbrella and bottled water to avoid the sunburnt.
So proud to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site in my beautiful country. If you travel to Ahvaz, don't miss visiting this unique hydraulic system.

A disappointment. Didn't meet our expectations. While it is worth a visit, it's not restored that much after the earthquake happened almost 20 years. The restoration changed its atmosphere too much. The color and shape of the clay used for the restoration is not what I remember from the days before the earthquake.
Greatly worth visiting place in Ardabil! Inside the complex, there are several places you can enjoy visiting, including the breathtaking Sheikh Safi-o-din shrine (his own grave plus the graves of his son, grandson, & King Ismail I) with precious architecture and art works besides Sheikh Safi-o-din Khanegah (a place for peace and pray, spiritual retreat and reformation), and moreover the fully informative museum of discovered remains of different historical periods which is located beside the shrine. You can buy and enjoy delicious "Halva-Siah" ("Black Halva", a kind of sweet paste made from wheat sprouts) which is one of the Ardabil souvenirs as you finish your visit!

Beautiful place! It’s very big area
An ancient ambient with a great design! Unfortunately the repairing process has been too long after the big earthquake about 20 years ago and still needs work. Visited on May 2022 for first time.

A large and picturesque castle in Meybod
The mud-brick fortress is quite ancient and is crumbling in many places. You can explore the inner tunnels and it is quite a fascinating place. If passing through Meybod, or staying there, it is worth stopping to visit.
Nice to see this water dam.
Be there near sunset, otherwise may be too hot in spring and summer.
The river and the dam is beautiful,
Though the town itself is not ready to host lots of visitors.
Very good
It is a complex irrigation system of the island city Shushtar from the Sassanid era. It consists of 13 dams, bridges, canals and structures which work together as a hydraulic system.
If you are in Yazd or Meybod, definitely you gatta make time to visit here.
Actually the place itself was renewed almost years ago but originally built at 18th. It is a walking distance from Narin Castle, Ab Anbar and next to a traditional restaurant.
Mmm I would never forget kindda feelings I had while I was walking here... I'm sure you will like it! Huh n yeah all of you ganna be crazy about this castle💫🤤🤤
Imagin it's back to 4000 freaking years befor Jesus even start crying for very first time😇
This is beyond your expectations, if I say it I no matter who you are guys. Do not fking loose your chance to visit this epic peace of old man made history. No matter where are you now, if you like to step into 6 thousands years ago, uh yeah this damn castle is right here for you. Do not leave any regrets behind 😉

A must visit. Try to go with a guide because there is so much history, the castle has layers and areas of residence. 😍🤍🇮🇷
food quality is not as well a before but still the best in the city
It is one of the most important historical monuments of Meybod.
You can imagine yourself in the stories of 1001 Nights by traveling to Meybod and Yazd.
Sheikh Safi al-din Khaneghah and shrine ensemble was built as a small microcosmic city with bazaar, public bath, square, religious building, houses and offices. This wonderful ensemble is of outstanding universal value as an artistic and architectural masterpiece and an outstanding representation of the fundamental principles of Sufism.
Just Try to step on the circle (on the pic) and face on the tower, then talk! this is Just Amazing! you have to experience what i'm saying!
You can't imagine how cute that Aphrodite girl was. She raised his head a little, while her wavy hair was covering half of her face, she greeted me with an smile.
I don't know I have to admire the girls' hands in making earthenware, or creation of her visage by the Lord.

***

I happened to pass by the potter’s workshop last night
I saw two thousand jugs expressive and reticent
(poem, Khayyam)

***

(There is a shop just in front of you when entering the caravanserai. Left side, end of the hall, behind the shelves you can find the pottery workshop)
Beautifully restored caravanserai. Inside the caravanserai there is also a good restaurant.

Narin Castle is located on top of a 25 m high clay hill and is overlooking the city of Meybod. The castle consists of 2 parts: the official residence overlooking the north of Meybod and the fortifications with labyrinths and fortification walls that made the castle inaccessible to intruders. The castle has mainly been constructed from clay and originally it was 5 storeys high. According to archeological findings, the castle dates back to the 4th and 3rd century BC.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is impressive. The ruins of this former Elamid city constructed around 1250 BC are impressive. From the original 5 levels only 2 levels remain. On several of the mud bricks you can see inscriptions. One tile also shows a footprint.
Historical and lot of things to remind you what was going on years and decades ago . So beautiful so much .
You can also see coins and some other things very very old

The Arg-e Bam (Bam Citadel) was the largest adobe building in the world, located in Bam, a city in the Kermān Province of southeastern Iran. It is listed by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage Site “Bam and its Cultural Landscape”. The origin of this enormous citadel on the Silk Road can be traced back to the Achaemenid period (6th to 4th centuries BC) and even beyond. The heyday of the citadel was from the 7th to 11th centuries, being at the crossroads of important trade routes and known for the production of silk and cotton garments.
The entire building was a large fortress in whose heart the citadel itself was located, but because of the impressive look of the citadel, which forms the highest point, the entire fortress is named the Bam Citadel.

Great place for lunch while visiting Meybod. Customer service is ok. Food is fine too. Restaurant is inside an old caravansaray located near main Meybod's sites - ice house, castle and pigeon tower.

This is absolutely a gem of a bridge to see and to walk under. In any other place in the world a nearly 3000 years old bridge such as this bridge, still in this quality, would be protected, honored, and revered. But it has been left on its own with grass growing aorund it and the structure deteriorating. There are graffities defiling this beautiful historical site. You don't see many people walk around it, but when one does, one remains in awe of its 3000 years old history. It remains standing in defiance of time, weather, and neglect. But do make a point to see it.
Beautiful palce and historical. There was a animal museum that it was so nice.
There are traditional shops surrounding the Carvansary and you can see the artists working there. Quite an experience!

One of the oldest castles in Iran is Narin Castle. It is about 6,000 years old. It's got several floors. From the roof you'll have avast view of the city of Meybod. Meybod and its gardens, water reservoirs and ice reservoirs, located at the edge of the desert, shows how ancient Iranians could manage to save and use water for agriculture, daily use and drinking in all hot and cold seasons.
I like it.
It's entrance fee is 55000 rials.
Go on time to visit all of it.
In addition there is two museums that mostly have old swords.
This is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited in my life.
Amazing System, brilliant engineering, and extraordinary architecture and nature are all coming together in this place.
If you ever happen to visit Iran, make a plan to visit this amazing place.
Very beautiful and historical place. you can rest here and take a look at stores with indigenous products. restaurant of Shah Abbasi Caravanserai is very beautiful and has delicious food.
You can see it when you are entering shushtar. It was beautiful and make you wonder how peolpe of the past could build such a great bridge
Historical place. There are also beautiful places around it.

The Arg-e Bam, the world's largest brick building, is one of the most important and most valuable historical landmarks of Iran. The predecessors of this massive historical complex built on a large rock near Bam city in Kerman province.
If you have just 1 minute to visit Ardabil, you would spend it to visit this place. It is an historical place with a special architecture and landscape. There are some tombs of Safavi family there. Also Ardabil archeology museume is located here.

if you are in to the historical landmarks then this place is definitely for you. very very old structure ‏which has been gone through a few reconstruction but still had many original stuff which are untouched. it is extra ordinary and beautiful, definitely recommend to visit.
we get there very very late at night which usually this place is closed but the security guys were nice and let us in.
This place is full of original cuneiform writing over the old bricks, there are some info stand near them which had the translation both in Farsi and English. You can see the map and info related to it at the entrance. be careful to not miss THE FOOTPRINT which is left on one the floor mosaics, there is a lot of stories about this foot print, if you visit at day time you will probably going to benefit from the presents of a tour guide for this place.
Although the provided facilities for this place in not good but the light works provided an exceptional look for this place at night time.
It is sad the official government in Iran won't do much about such great landmarks, the least they can do is to promote these as tourists attraction or save them for futures.

Gonbad-e Qabus

The Mil-e Gonbad, Gonbad-e Qabus, Iran
ZOOM - Open a large version of this image
The Mil-e Gonbad.

City in northeastern Iran with 120,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate), in the Golestan province, at an elevation of about 60 metres, on the Gorgan river.
It is predominantly a Turkmen city, Turkmen being the spoken language.
Gonbad-e Qabus is particularly famous for its brick tower, the Mil-e Gonbad, dating back to 1006, built as a tomb for a Ziyarid prince. It rises 72 metres, and is one of the tallest brick towers in the world. The Mil-e Gonbad is a tomb, with 10 crevices in 90º, is 17 metres in diametre with 3 metre thick walls, concluding in conical roof, itself 15 metres high. It was submitted in 2007 by Iran to UNESCO for registration as a World Heritage Site.
The world's second largest defensive wall, the 155 km long Qizil Alan passes Gonbad-e Qabus.
It is an agricultural trade centre.
There are two universities in Gonbade-e Qabus.
The city is fairly well-connected with other urban centres by road, the highway between the Caspian regions and Mashhad runs 20 km away. Mashhad is 500 km east.
Built between the beginning of the 16th century and the end of the 18th century, this place of spiritual retreat in the Sufi tradition uses Iranian traditional architectural forms to maximize use of available space to accommodate a variety of functions (including a library, a mosque, a school, mausolea, a cistern, a hospital, kitchens, a bakery, and some offices). It incorporates a route to reach the shrine of the Sheikh divided into seven segments, which mirror the seven stages of Sufi mysticism, separated by eight gates, which represent the eight attitudes of Sufism. The ensemble includes well-preserved and richly ornamented facades and interiors, with a remarkable collection of antique artefacts. It constitutes a rare ensemble of elements of medieval Islamic architecture.

Outstanding Universal Value

Brief synthesis

Sheikh Safi al-Din Khānegāh and Shrine Ensemble was built as a small microcosmic city with bazaars, public baths, squares, religious buildings, houses, and offices. It was the largest and most complete khānegāh and the most prominent Sufi shrine since it also hosts the tomb of the founder of the Safavid Dynasty. For these reasons, it has evolved into a display of sacred works of art and architecture from the 14th to the 18th century and a centre of Sufi religious pilgrimage.

The Sheikh Safi al-Din Khānegāh and Shrine Ensemble in Ardabil is of Outstanding Universal Value as an artistic and architectural masterpiece and an outstanding representation of the fundamental principles of Sufism. Ilkhanid and Timurid architectural languages, influenced by Sufi philosophy, have created new spatial forms and decorative patterns. The layout of the ensemble became a prototype for innovative architectural expressions and a reference for other khānegāhs. As the shrine of a prominent Sufi master, who also was the founder of the Safavid Dynasty, the property has remained sacred in Iran up to the present day.

The biggest brick-made citadel from the era of sasanid empire in iran.
Magnificent glorious structure. Big enough to be an ancient city.
Unfortunately was almost completely ruined by 2004 bam earthquake but some parts has been under reconstruction.
Chogha Zanbil temple is located in Khuzestan province in southwestern part of Iran and about 40 kilometers far from Susa.
About more than 3000 years ago, in 1250 BC Untash Napirisha, king of Elamite ordered to building of a 5-story building for their biggest god, Inshushinak, they believed that the god protected their city and when they finished the temple, he put the statue of Inshushinak on the pick of the temple in a room.
The temple was decorated with colorful bricks and there were more than 6000 cuniform bricks on the temple's wall.
Unfortunately in 640 BC Ashur Banipal, Assiryan king, attacked them and set the fire on the temple.
It is the first Iranian monument registered with UNESCO in 1979.
A unique tourist attraction in iran. Such temple with this architecture can not be found anywhere else in Iran.

We had numerous castles in Iran called Narin & the one in Meybod is the most famous one . Meybod itself is a mysterious historical city and the Narin castle is a proof of it . it is highly recommended to visit this mesmerizing city if you are in Yazd area . do not be satisfied of just visiting Yazd & visit Meybod & Ardakan cities too . on above of Narin castle you will have a very good view of the whole city just like the rulers of Meybod during the times ! Estimations by the archaeologists suggest that the castle is constructed in Sassanian times ( almost 1800 years ago ) . Castle walls , foundation , roofs & interior walls are made by a kind of mortar which we call it Sarooj containing Egg to even more resistant .and after passing some severe earthquakes the castle still stand as a symbol .
Quite an interesting bridge construction. Hard to belive, that it was constructed by Roman technology. Roman bridges usually content cycular vaults. Here they are pointed-bend. Very interesting, the dam construction is very similar to the bridges in Isfahan, for sure these buildings are somehow linked
