Absolute appalling unprofessionalism. If Shoko Abe’s rude phone/email behavior is a reflection of the company’s treatment to customers/clients, whether dealing with $1 or $100k, I’ll take my business elsewhere. Gems are of value, but please don’t forget the worth of human kindness, professionalism and respect. Yelling at customers because they did not hear you clearly over the phone is deplorable. Answering aggressively in an inquiry email is just as bad. Looking out for fellow customers/clients who may need appraisals. You are not just another number. There are plenty of others in NY who will treat you with respect, especially if you’re in a delicate situation or dealing with family heirlooms. Please Do your research. Have a safe and blessed day.

I highly recommend Linda Cheney's services. I was on a short timeline to get my deceased mother's valuables appraised and sold. Linda accommodated me, was thorough, professional, and respectful of the emotional side of the situation. Linda also guided me towards several potential buyers, and remained in touch as I had additional questions, an added service she didn't charge me more for. And her fees were quite reasonable, and paid for itself with the knowledge I gained for selling the goods. In sum, Linda's assistance was critical to my ability to sell my mother's items in a manner that would have made her proud.

I am a happy new homeowner (studio co-op) who closed the deal just this past week (Feb 2023). Norm was simply phenomenal and it was a pleasure to work with him. He was initially the seller's agent and ended up working with me since I didn't have an agent.
I was a first time home buyer originally from a foreign country and was working on it all alone, so I felt lost in each process, and the whole thing ended up taking longer than usual. Norm was very friendly, extremely patient and supportive, readily available by texts and phone calls whenever I had a question, and never ever showed any frustration no matter how stuck I felt at anything. If it was not Norm, I know I would have given up on owning this place. He believed in me and also believed that I would be happy to own the place. I honestly relied on him more than on my attorney, since he was very easy to talk to.
I would recommend Norm to anyone, but if you are especially nervous about embarking on your home-owning journey for being a first time homebuyer or unfamiliar with the process, email, text or give him a call. He will take good care of you, I can promise.

I tried to contact them to see if they had information on how I could get my art in their galleries, however they never responded back, and that was at the middle of last year.
If you're a fellow artist looking for a gallery, you might not wanna use this one, as they're customer support is lacking.

I recently contacted Linda for an appraisal of a James G.Tyler oil painting. She made herself easily available for an appointment, at which she carefully explained to me the different types of appraisals. Within a week, she provided a fine and thoroughly researched report, much more than I was expecting to receive! She is friendly, obviously competent, and reasonably priced. I will certainly use the Cheney Appraisal Services for future appraisals. (I paid for this appraisal and did not know Linda prior to this work.)

I recently utilized Cheney Appraisal Services to value oriental carpets and paintings. Linda was extremely knowledgable, complete and explained her rationale in detail. She was prompt, provided quick turnaround and was forthright and very personable. Her fee was quite reasonable. I am extremely confident in the reliability of her appraisals. I used Cheney appraisal for an insurance claim. Linda explained everything including the timing ( which was a tight deadline) and it proceeded as discussed. I highly recommend Linda and believe her to be more professional than other appraisers I’ve used over the years.

Linda is a liar. She lied to my boss; stating that she told me (in our initial phone conversation) that her fee would be higher than that of the value of what we wanted appraised. Thankfully my boss believed me and I am still employed. Linda lied so easily, not caring at all if I would be fired. Unethical and without shame. All so that she would not have to issue a refund. Her appraisal was sloppy and lazy and the value she came up with was absurd. My boss requested a refund and that's when Linda emailed and tried to blame it all on me. Linda emailed me instead of my boss so I read the email and I was so shocked at how easily she lied. I let time pass before posting this review as I found it difficult at first to harm anyone's business. But I thought of how easily Linda made it for me to lose my job and I decided to warn others on here. Choose Linda's business if you wish, this post is just to warn you that all conversations should recorded, so choose to email, avoid any form of undocumented communication that Linda can use as she pleases.
