A nice collection of wines. The guy behind the counter knows his stuff when you start to engage him. He also lent us a bottle opener, which we returned the next day.
Lots of variety and delicious foods at reasonable prices. Great Asian food market and upstairs there is more shopping, collectibles, pottery, arcade claw machine games and more. My only caution is not to show up in the last hour that they are open since many vendors shut down early if they're not busy.

Fabricio is such and amazing bartender. He knows what to offer and has the greatest recommendations. If you want a skilled bartender and a fun time, come to albatross on Wednesday’s to see the best bartender as well as a drag game night you don’t want to miss.
Albatross is a fantastic Queer space that offers a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere. One of the main highlights of this bar is the fantastic drag shows that take place regularly. The performers are incredibly talented and always put on a great show, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained.
Moreover, the bartenders, including one of my absolute favorites, Gierre, are fantastic. They are friendly, attentive, and know how to mix a great drink. They always go above and beyond to make sure that customers are happy and having a good time. Their professionalism and expertise are truly impressive.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this little patch of Japan culture! We tried some of the food court restaurants and everything was delicious. Highly recommend!
Super neat place to visit if you're around. Took the kids there for the japanese comic book store. They have vintage video games on sale there with tons of anime figures and gifts. They also have a food market on the first floor although the things were a little overpriced. But considering there isn't another japanese market around I guess the higher prices are expected. There's also some restaurants and bar in the connected buildings. It's a cool place to visit if you're around. They have these cute little toy vending machine like the one's in asia. There's a few other neat little shops in there and a video game room that's $5 person. We didn't have much time so we didn't visit the game room. The decor is very nice and it's a nice place to take pictures or just enjoy a little afternoon time relaxing with friends and family.
Nice small shop with a great variety of sake and more! I was even able to find a bottle of green tea plum wine that I’ve been looking for! The lady running the store was also very friendly.

I’m a wine aficionado for the past decade+ and came here after doing some research when the sake bug bit me one day. Boy did I hit the jackpot! Sophia was amazing and took her time walking me through the many different subtleties that can effect the final product 🍶 She helped us curate a 4-pack to experience (some of) the major categories of sake styles as well as recommending a really great book for me to 🤓 out with. It’s been 2 weeks now tasting through these and reading to educate myself more and not only am I a big fan of sake now (without just shooting blindfolded) I’m a huge fan of Bin Bin Sake. Thank you for this shop, it’s absolute jewel.

So the person at the front desk HUNG UP ON ME MID-CALL, because I was kindly asking if the manager was there. Don’t ever work for this company. Ever. They don’t know how to treat anyone but themselves right. A complete toxic, inconsistent work environment, and they are known for not paying their employees. Bad, bad news to get involved with this place. Terrible service, terrible work environment, just an overall big regret.

We popped into their store as we were walking past and are so glad we did. Nice selection. Knowledgeable staff. Reasonable prices. Followed up a few days later and the delivery service is spot on. Very much worth investigating!

Love how this whole neighborhood of old factories and warehouses have been revamped to Loft style buildings that host shops, game themed businesses, food and arts. There are multiple buildings and each one connects via a courtyard passageway. Japan Village is Building 4 and contains an amazing food court, Japanese Supermarket, Daiso, and Book Off - a lot of Anime goodies and Manga. I wish I lived closer, I'd come every week!! Indoor and outdoor seating, restroom areas are plenty and clean. Very trendy and fun for the entire family. Each building has so much to see and on multiple floors. Enjoy!
This place really is "The Queer Cheers of Astoria". Its a fun, safe space where you'll always feel welcome. They host tons of events and games if you're looking for something to do, or meet-ups and Happy Hours for relaxing and conversation. I'm a big karaoke fan, so Fridays are my favorite night. I even decided to celebrate my birthday there this weekend. Hassan (@hassanintheworld) is the karaoke host Queen and she is absolutely amazing - so entertaining and talented too! Filup and Alexander are the new Friday team behing the bar and THEY. ARE. FABULOUS!! They're welcoming & friendly, and they keep the drinks flowing. Albatross is a great neighborhood bar with some of the best drag performers you'll find anywhere.
I love visiting this place! There's Daiso, which has just about everything for great prices. I love Sunrise Mart, they sell all kinds of Japanese products—from cosmetics to groceries. I also had lunch at Hachi and enjoyed the takoyaki and okonomiyaki.

It was my second time visiting Japan Village and loved it even more! Don’t miss out in the other floors and building. The Daiso was better experience than some others I’ve been to around NY. There are so many cute shops, and well curated stores for anyone who likes unique boutique food stores, home goods and clothes shops. The Japanese food court is fun too for a quick meal, but I like the restaurants. Just remember they take a midday break between lunch and dinner. It’s a foodie heaven. Enjoy the ramen, onigiri, takoyaki, and more! Fun for all ages!

Japan village is fantastic! Their grocery store has so many wonderful items that are hard to find anywhere else. I lived in Japan for 3 years, so this store is perfect for finding all of the things that make me nostalgic ☺️
We really enjoyed the bar itself and bartenders were really friendly. However the drag queen running karaoke was incredibly rude, and we felt as a lesbian couple she kept skipping us for karaoke and inviting her male friends (who just entered the bar) up to sing. We asked multiple times over an hour and a half and she kept making excuses "he bribed me!". My wife was finally called to sing but the bar had gone from busy to almost empty. Honestly it really sucks as a queer couple to go to a queer bar and be treated like this. We were let down, and felt really disrespected. This bar came highly recommended by local family and we definitely won't be returning.
Great selection at reasonable prices. I ordered a bottle of Champagne for a special birthday. I live out of town and was very pleased that they made the delivery to my friends home within 2 hours of my order. Great service.

What a great place! Can't believe I've walked by so many times and not stepped in. The woman at the counter was highly knowledgeable, passionate about wine and great at explaining their unique selection. Gentleman at check-out told me all about the place's history as he signed me up for an account. Will be back for sure
DO NOT GO! ! Purchased two pairs of pajamas for my daughters and was told I could exchange them if they didn't like the colors. When I tried to exchange them I was told it was outside one week (never told only one week exchange period) and then that they would not accept the item because they were damaged. My daughter only tried on and items still had creases. The item was sold in poor condition and they refused the return. They told me I could get fixed in Chinatown in NYC?!? Store advertises they take credit cards but they insisted on Venmo. This store is a trap for tourists and I was taken advantage of.

I wish I could leave no stars. 2023 and this "establishment" fired an employee because they did not LIKE their NATURAL hair. Whispered about and scorned their hair in the workplace. Absolutely detestable, unacceptable and deeply racist behavior. Furthermore, they left this employee without their wages - a trend that seems to keep happening over the years (just look at the indeed reviews).
Terrible customer service. Asked to see their selection of burgundy wines, the male sommelier had to ask his colleague where that was, they proceeded to show us a single bottle randomly placed on a shelf. Couldn’t believe that was all they had to offer. Proceed to just have a look round the shop and turns out they have a selection of fine burgundy wines in a small separate room that they did not even think to show us, don’t know if that was just them assuming by looks that we could not afford those. But anyway, once we start looking in that room the guy keeps following us around, insisting for us to buy and try HIS favourite wines in another section… just an unenjoyable experience. They have some good prices for some of the finer burgundies, but for the experience of shopping there I’d rather not bother again.
Disgusting to know that in such an eclectic establishment like Chelsea Market that this company, Chelsea wine co, would be the opposite of what the market embodies. Learning that the General Manger, Mickey and managers Micheal and Amelia would fire an employee because of his natural HAIR is just absolutely disgusting and infuriating. It’s discrimination and racist. I will never shop here again. And will never refer anyone to shop here. Think twice before you spend money is an establishment that doesn’t care about what their employees do for the company, but what their hair looks like when it’s not straightened and what it looks like coming out of a Black Mans hair follicle. Get over yourselves.
Very friendly folks, and a great selection for auch a small space, including many ORGANIC NATURAL wines. Personally I'm not thrilled with such "unfiltered" wines, and I would have preferred (my limited, non connaisseut perspective) a non organic wine (i.e. with sulfides and other "usual contaminant suspects"). But definitely, this is a jewel of a place, and you can depend on Tyrone to graciously help you choose your wine.

Great place with great priced drinks!! I’ve gone to the drag race viewing a couple times with my partner and the vibes have always been very friendly and easygoing. The bartenders are sweethearts and the queens are very entertaining. Would recommend.
Michael Towne came in clutch with a special edition bottle that was sold out all over Manhattan. I was on a short timeline & they delivered the bottle same day. Very good communication up til & even after the delivery. The least I could do is review my great experience & give them first look next time I’m buying.

Went into the store for a bottle of whiskey that was at a good price. He pulls down the bottle and proceeds to change the price to 3x right infront of me…He then proceeds to go there’s nothing I can do sorry unless you wanna pay that price. Very shady and disrespectful.

Let me tell you about this place!!!! First of all the staff here is beyond pleasant! As soon as you walk in you are greeted warmly. Im not a wine expert but I was in the mood for a red wine. The awesome gentlemen in the front asked me if I wanted heavy, light , sweet or dry but I wasn't sure. So then he tells me to have some samples and escorted to a tall sample table that was hosted by this beautiful woman. She had us try 4 wines, 2 whites and 2 reds. She gave a phenomenal description on how to chill these wines, who created them, and where they were from. They were all delicious but the first red was the best. I asked her to give me the name that bottle and she told me I would be able to purchase that wine behind the check out counter. So I made my way over to the register and why was the bottle was already waiting for me?!?! The pleasant gentleman who First greeted me picked it out for me. So I had to purchase it! That people is how you make a sale. He signed me up for a rewards card and mailing list and placed my bottle in a nice paper bag. I can't wait to taste this wine. I wish I would have gotten their names because the ambience of this place is top notch! I will definitely be back!

This place is really cool, lots of great food options. The courtyard area is nice, there’s some seating. They had heat lamps out and a fire pit. Definitely, recommend checking it out.
🍶 Cool quaint sake store on the edge of the building. Really impressive selection of saké, wine & spirits. They carry Japanese imports as well as Brooklyn made saké (Made in Bushwick* I believe). A fine selection too at that! If you’re even casually into saké you can see they carry some real quality products. The staff was knowledgeable and had good recommendations. They keep some already chilled in a fancy rotating cooler so you can get the party started right away 😉 🍶 ha but in seriousness, it’s nice they’ve considered that for us, the customer. They also have Japanese whiskey. Their prices are good for their selection and worth stopping in to shop here for! So come check them out and enjoy, Kanpai! 😎🍶
amazing sake tastings held in the beautiful event space connected to rule of thirds— my friends and I learned so much about sake, the different varieties, and how it’s made. it was a seriously cool activity and the people running it really know their stuff. the shop itself is a small little sake shop, but has an amazing selection of sake, shochu, and japanese whiskey! i can’t wait to be back here.
Great little sake/wine shop that’s part of Rule of Thirds. Knowledgeable staff and even though they weren’t doing tastings at the time, she let us try some sake that had been opened. There’s a rotating fridge in the center for chilled items.

George the owner is very nice and knowledgeable & he really helps each customer find what they are looking for. When I lived in the Heights for 7 years, Michael Towne was my go to place many evenings after I got off the 2/3 at Clarke St station. Always a great balance of selection and price. After many years on the Upper West Side where 67 Wine was nearby (another fine place), I returned to Brooklyn. Though no longer in Brooklyn Heights, I'd rather wait and have Michael Towne choices delivered than purchase from my nearby providers. The attention to both detail and customers needs make it worth the extra wait. I hope the Clarke St elevator replacement project has not impacted their business too much.

Wonderful Wines & Spirits store, Michael-Towne has an extraordinary wine variety and impeccable costumer service. Their App is easy to navigate, they have good discounts and same day delivery service for free (I believe when eligible). This is our go to store in Brooklyn!

I walk way, way out of my way to go to this store. They have a great selection of wine and liquor - though I wish the whiskey and rum selection was a little bigger. The prices are great, especially on their sales. And the staff have always been friendly and approaching. I'll keep on coming back.

Small, but decent selection of wines including many small batch and rarely seen bottles. Prices not the cheapest, but fair for the location, and staff were courteous enough.
This is a great little shop where you can get a limited selection of Asian dry goods and such with a whole lot of gifts. One of the shops that still make D.C. Chinatown still actually feels like a Chinatown. It's really worth going in there and check when you visit, you might find something cool! If you're a DC resident and need some Asian goods without having to go to VA or MD, you can find some basic stuff here.

What a delightful boutique wine store. Aaron was knowledgeable about a variety of wines and helped me find one I like in my price range. You can tell he’s passionate about his craft. They carry hard to find find wines and a curated selection of bottles under $20. It’s worth going a few extra blocks for a better shopping experience.
I go to this store a lot. Purchase vietnamese coffee in packs. They bag does not provide experation day, but the inside individual pack stated they expired in 2020. The coffee tastes like dirt no flavor waste of money.
I have been a fan of this store for many years. It's under new management for several months. And while I miss previous owner /sales staff (miss you Manuel), I love what new owners have done to store. More spacious. More room to wander & peruse wines. Pascual and Oscar are running the place now. They can suggest wines to match ur dinner. And they do so with a warm tropical smile that will have you coming back. PS: I will be forever grateful that at the height of pandemic in our city, they offered to buy needed groceries for me. It never came to that.

Great souvenirs of Chinatown and Washington DC. Little trinkets all the way to furniture. Staff is super helpful and friendly, and prices were decent. This place has also Asian snacks and treats and a huge selection of herbs and medications.
I was specifically looking for a store were I could get one of those waving cat dolls. This store has tons of those items plus traditional Chinese medicine plus liquor candy kitchen tools serving items and so much more. Don't miss this for Chinatown souvenirs plus practical items.

Very interesting place to visit, it's worth a walk through, but it does need a good cleaning. If you are looking for bamboo plants grown into hearts, jade carved elephants, or slippers, this is your place.
Possibly the best wine and liquor store in New York. While it is not a large store everyone that works there has in-depth knowledge of at least one type of liquor or wine.
The owners are knowledgable and friendly and the store is always clean and well organized. There's no extra cost for spending money with a smaller store like this but they definitely give you that small town feel when you walk in and great you.

I'm no wine expert, so don't take my advice too seriously. But I am starting to be able to get a feel for what makes a wine store a good one. On the two visits I've made here, both times, the employees were able to answer my questions. If you ask me, you can often tell when someone doesn't know what they're talking about, because they get a little hesitant before they answer each one of your questions. None of that happened here.
