Purchased the Messina Christmas trifle.
Honestly overpriced and overrated, it tasted like sugar from top to bottom. Could taste any of the flavours as it all tasted the same. For $250 I would have expected something out of this world. Presentation was amazing, but not worth it. Ps. Brandy custard was amazing.

Back to one of my happier places in Syd 🧡

The Fitzroy Messina was a much needed pitstop. I had a long skate today with my new scooter and had to learn my ropes on navigating my new baddie. I got the pistachio and pandan flavour in a cup. Needless to say it didn't disappoint and still as good as I remembered it.

Will be back when I'm feeling peckish. Great to come back for the mems

Messina is consistent and well known around Melbourne (and even Australia?) for its gelati. Had a triple scoop cup for $10 and it was spot on. I also had an espresso for $2 which has to be the cheapest coffee in Melbourne? And it was a bloody good drop with a nice crema.

If you live in Australia, you probably know Messina, if not then this is the best place to satisfy your gelato cravings. They have a great selection of gelatos all made in-house. I usually like their weekly specials, this time I tried summermisu which is a summer version of tiramisu but tasted good, worth a try.

Staff has been patient and kind always but today there was something that caught my eye. It was almost 10:20 pm when I got in queue and the closing time is 11 pm (as on google). We were asked to move inside around 10:45 so as they can start the pack up, a family with a kid (3-4 year) entered shortly after, the staff told them that they are closed and are not taking more customers, the family requested that we are coming from far so atleast serve the kid, the staff said no as they are bound by rules and they cannot. We were not served yet and the family was just requesting. I believe the staff should have some discretion capability here to not turn the kid away, I understand rules and you want to stop people lining up after 10:50 pm but it’s no where mentioned, your closing time is still 11pm and it doesn’t differentiate that you stop taking orders at xx:yy h.

I really believe the company/owners should allow staff this much flexibility

Amongst the favourite spots for delicious smooth textured gelato. Their coffee is also noticeably affordable.
Flavours such as King Julien - a coconut and lychee gelato with kiwi and pasionfruit puree; are very well put together. Other highlights are the Apricotta and classics like the Pistachio were outstanding
Staff are friendly and generous with the scoops.
Definitely worth a visit

This was recommended to me and so happy I got to experience it. They have a bunch (I believe 40) of flavours available which makes it so hard to choose what you should get. I ended up with the hokey pokey and Italian nougat on a cone and it was absolutely delicious. They are very generous with their servings and you have the possibility to buy a small scoop for less money. There seems to always be a queue which gives you some pressure to decide fast. There are couches so you can eat the ice cream there if you like.

Once again consistent amazing gelato can be had here. For some reason my usual chocolate sorbet was particularly rich and refreshing on my most recent visit!
