Cosy, old-school pub with an iron chandelier, for craft beers and hearty food from local produce.

Came in just to have a couple of drinks. No where to sit as all tables reserved. One table then left so sat there and was told we have to move in 20 mins. Wife 7 months pregnant so not brilliant experience. Would not class this as a pub anymore and don’t come if you just want a drink as no where to sit (which isn’t reserved). Lovely place inside though and fine selections of beers.

Yesterday I was waiting my friend so I though I could try some local beers and cider. I also ordered fish and chips (haddock). The bar staff were very friendly and helpful and in midday there was plenty space for seating, around six a clock it got really busy inside and outside area. Lovely garden area for smoking and having a chilled drink. There is also sitting area just next to entrance. They have good choice of meals and desserts and the have vegan and vegetarian options too. The toilets are located upstairs. And it’s just next to Christmas steps and close to city Center. Lovely experience as usual.

Lucky like local old school pub. Nothing pretentious just a lucky atmosphere, a good range of drinks including local beers and mulled wine and cider in winter.
Good service. Cocktails were great too.
Recommended as a good place for a drink when you should be shopping.

Great pub serving great food and drink. Some outdoor space with heaters for when it's cold. It's not the most accessible as lots of steps (as the name suggests), but if you can get a table on the ground floor or outside, it's fine. Staff were really helpful and the food came quickly. The food was delicious, we had possibly the best beef sandwich and the goats cheese and beetroot salad we have ever had! 100% recommend. We will definitely be back

What a lovely place to be! Amazing food, lovely interior, kind staff, hilarious locks on the toilet door. I had the crisp potato pieces and beetroot salad with goats cheese, so yummy! Looking forward to coming back here😊

First impressions were pretty good having been here many years ago. A nice quirky pub with various areas and plenty of outside space dotted around.
The blonde lady behind the bar was very friendly and there was quite a good selection of beers on keg and cask plus ciders of course. It was a cool evening despite it being August so the open door didn’t help the tables nearby as it became necessary to wear coats indoors.
The downside was the food. Having ordered sausage and mash with seasonal veg it came along and I thought it was the child’s portion. The definition of seasonal veg was a few shreds of cabbage! It was ok at best and at £14.95 really poor value for money. Another option was the cottage pie at nearly £18 which we avoided, but some came along to people say nearby and again the portions were minuscule. The price vs expectation point was way off kilter here for the food.
All in all I liked the pub and most of the staff were friendly so I’d feel bad rating it below 3/5. However the food situation is best avoided and was a real disappointment. I’ve never seen the like even back in the big smoke!

A very pleasant pub with excellent food. The building is a few hundred years old, and the decor is a mix of old and new, but it works really well. There are a few rooms on different levels, but the bottom floor is accessible by wheelchair or pushchair. There's a separate bar on the ground floor.
I only popped in for a pint and chips (delicious!), but I'll definitely return.
