This is a very detailed museum, and as a result should get more attention. However, I wouldn’t recommend it purely on the basis that there were so many school groups present, and so other members of the public weren’t able to see some of the exhibits. At one point a guide encouraged a group of children to surround me when I was trying to read a display. It’s also too cold inside the museum.

Generally a good local history museum that does its work in documenting & introducing the region's history. However there's still a couple of things worth mentioning. The ancient-medieval parts are fantastic, despite not that rich in the collection & display of original artifacts they do provide rich, well-organized, and well-curated information on the political, social and cultural development of Catalonia, with informative maps & graphs & models & interactive parts that help their audiences quickly immerse into the narrative and get a complete understanding of the contents. The modern parts, however, are relatively awkward due to a more dull and curt writing/translation style of the information as well as a lack of depths & contexts. Really wish this part could get some improvement so the museum would be a perfect destination for history lovers who wish to learn more about the fascinating and colorful past of Catalonia without the disturbance of tourist crowds!

Zwei Stunden Zeit sollte man mitbringen...
Noch ein Geheimtipp...

Terrific museum to get an overview of the history of Catalonia. Really well laid out. Good mix of original artefacts, models, and reconstructions. A number of hands-on exhibits, sounds, and even smells! The free audio guide points out significant events, and there's a huge amount of written information too. The staff are delightful. You need a good couple of hours, but there's a restaurant to recover in!
