1) The entrance door no longer squeaks (it is good)
2) The weatherstripping was removed from the entrance door - was not reinstalled. No plans were mentioned to reinstall it (it is bad). Wind comes from the outside through the big gaps in the door.
3) The maintenance crew was nice and tried to fix the problem but worked under constraining pressure from the building manager Mike who did not let them to complete the repair.
4) Building Manager Mike was unreasonable, disrespectful, and rude as usual.

Overall experience has been nice. Jacky has been great! Neighbors are great. Love the high-rise view and watching the flow around us. Very Clean, nice upgrades.... Very happy with our stay so far!

I have never written a review until now, but I felt so strongly about living at this place for a year that I had to.
Issues included:
1) When I first moved in, they had a rat/mice infestation on multiple floors.
2) Laundry machines are always dirty and broken.
3) I've seen rats at the pool area.
4) Pool area/hot tub area broken a bunch of times.
5) Elevators broken a lot (only 2 elevators for 18 floors).
6) Ventilation sucks - I could often smell smoke and people cooking.
7) Black mold started growing in the bedroom.
8) Dog pee in the elevators a lot.
9) Management is irresponsible and does not respond to emails or calls. I had to go to the office 5+ times for a charge I asked to remove MULTIPLE times and they still didn't do it until the 5th office visit.
10) After multiple emails, calls, and 5+ office visits, they still overcharged me on my security deposit and I had to wait months to get the remainder back.
This is all about the new management, so don't be fooled. I moved in right when they took over and they are still as bad as previous management. I was enticed by the price for a 1 bedroom (cheaper than other "luxury" apartments), but there's a reason for it. Please rent anywhere else!

The company doesn’t care about the safety of the tenants. Cars are constantly getting broken into or completely stolen out of the “secured” garage. They got rid of building security so now unauthorized people are accessing the property. They never respond to emails from tenants pleading for simple safety measures. Last month unauthorized ppl came into the pool Area & started fights with tenants. Never would I recommend this rental property.

I don’t think you can live in a better place than this near Lake Merritt. Beautiful view.

I have lived here for almost 16 years and we've been through quite a few different owners/management companies. I give you 4 stars because you've made a lot of good changes to the buildings. It was a very rocky start but we're in a good flow of positive change right now. There were a lot of different problems with this building when you came onboard and you've basically eliminated most of them. With Christmas approaching I'm a little concerned about the package security but hopefully we'll have a good Christmas season this year. Also, it feels good to know that I can use the trash chute whenever I need to without finding it overflowing. When there's an elevator issue it's handled promptly and the communication has been good. The new fitness center is very nice and fixing the assigned parking issue was a very good idea. I'm looking forward to other changes to come.

I waited to write this review until a few months after my move in. I've read through some of the bad reviews on here and am wondering if I lived in the same place as these people. I came to Renew on Merritt to seek asylum in a way. I was going through a separation and was looking for a new place.
A few things to consider before you move here:
Office: The office staff works remotely but they respond right away, and maintenance works onsite. Maintenance guy Chris is amazing......................
Amenities: 24hr gym access and heated pool. The pool is ample sized, the jacuzzi is ok, and although we were promised a remodeling of the area, it still remains the same. Washer dryer on location - could be newer but when I have had issues, I just call the 1800 number and they come out within a couple of days to repair.
Location: Close to Lake Merritt and 12th street. There are also great restaurants, groceries stores, shopping areas and coffee shops within walking distance of the apartment.
Service: I never had any issues with service. Their on-line service request system made it easy to put in a service request at any time to repair an issue in my unit. It was usually repaired within 24 hours or the next day. I do see a cleaning company cleaning the property every day. Although I do my best to do my part to keep the property clean, I see others not doing their part. You have your residents that care and others that make it bad for others.
Overall, they are a good community to try out. So, if you're interested, I highly recommend this apartment.
