Came across this museum when walking from the convention center to French Quarter. My husband who is Italian was very excited. We visited in the middle of a 100 degree heatwave and the building A/C was out so the entrance fee was waived. It was stifling on the third floor but we stayed for over an hour. Learning about Italian heritage in New Orleans was fascinating.

We really love the American Italian Cultural Center Museum. This is a great facility with a small gift shop, outdoor courtyard and a really nice museum on the third floor. They have displays of clothing worn by people who immigrated to New Orleans, businesses started by Italians, sports and music contributions. There is even a section on Italians that served in the US military. A very well done museum.

Website says museum is open on Saturday’s. The recorded telephone message says museum is open on Saturday’s. But when we walked 35 minutes to visit the museum on a Saturday we found it closed. Obviously the staff do not have any respect for people’s time. All they needed to do was to update the recoded telephone message but even that was too much work for them. We will never go back.

I went to this wonderful wine and cheese tasting this Wednesday. It was fantastic. Besides that event I visited the not to be missed, greatly researched and interactive museum of the Italians who arrived to make up so many of our historically famous Americans.

Fascinating account of Italian immigrant experience in Louisiana , beautifully renovated museum space in historical New Orleans building. They offer a floor of event space also.

A hidden gem! How did I go my whole life not knowing the contribution of my family to this city I have visited so often?

Wonderful museum which has been beautifully curated and gives a great taste of Italian-American heritage from the past up to now. Would highly recommend!
