618 Hokkien Mee

Had tried both the hokkien mee and char kway teow. Both are nice. Hokkien mee is the soupy and wet version, very flavorful. Char kway teow not too oily, and comes with sambal chilli, which adds to the unami flavor. Highly recommended...

Set in a small breezy coffee shop facing a playground. Taste was good, but used skinny beehoon instead of the thicker one, so didn't absorb the stock flavor as much. Didn't have the wok hey taste.

Delicious hokkien mee with lots of ingredients. Not too oily. It's the healthier option compared to the one at khatib which is tastier but not as much ingredient and more oily.

1st time ordering from this supposedly best HKM store in the north. Ordered 1 small HKM and 1 small CKT for takeaway. HKM comes in a box, so add 20cents more. CKT comes in a packet, no additional cost. Not sure why the difference in packaging for the 2 different noodles. Overall just so-so, HKM comes with 2 prawns, some sotong and pork. But the taste was quite bland. Seems lacking in flavor and wok hei. CKT has some fishcake, beansprouts, egg, chinese sausage. Cockles were missing. Waiting time very fast, less than 5mins. Within the same coffeeshop there is a famous carrot cake shop, with most customers seemed to be waiting for their carrot cake compared to other stalls.

Cook is a very talented Vietnamese lady who single-handedly fries each hkm and ckt in turn. I’d say her skills really on par with local hawkers.

Hkm $4 is generous plate with a lot of chap and strong prawn stock taste. Mee is so well-cooked. Comes with 2 fresh prawns, some pork belly slices, chewy sotong and best of all big cubes of nice and crispy pork lard. Chili is very good too.

Her ckt at $3.50 is a lighter version, nice savoury taste and very good wok hei. Good kway teow used, very smooth tasting. Not too oily. Fish cakes, few fresh hums and lup cheong added.

I’m also gonna rate 5 stars for their Hokkien Prawn Mee. Amazing how she can cook this local dish so well. I ordered takeout and my noodles isn’t soggy and still had some gravy. Taste is good and yes, service is fast too.
If you like chilli, their sambal is really power. Very spicy but goes very well with the noodles. You might wanna go easy with the sambal Chili if you can’t take too spicy like me. Enjoy!

The stall was manned by Vietnamese lady and she appeared to be very energetic and friendly. She nodded and greeted the moment she spotted me looking at the menu!! 👍👍 I got my CKT pretty quick and it was good. A bit sweet with many fresh cockles. It’s not soggy but also not too dry! Definitely 5 stars for her dishes and service.
