We visited here because my friends wanted me to see a map of how Cardiff used to be - so they could show me (and explain) how much Cardiff has changed over the years.

The map is sadly no longer there - instead the museum is filled with interactive installations aimed at children under the age of ten.

Despite being somewhat enamoured with the weight sensitive seal for a few minutes, I didn’t get to see or learn anything about Cardiff’s rich history.

Only positive is that the museum is free.

We visited this museum with our toddler and weren't disappointed. It's small but well layed out, with an interesting overview of Cardiff's history. It was child friendly, with some interactive exhibits and some colouring and books downstairs. The staff were friendly and good with our son. It didn't take long to get round but for a free museum (donation optional) we thought it was fab

It’s a nice castle / museum however unsure why they charge approx 15 pounds per person. The open air museum at St Fagans is free of charge and a lot nicer in my opinion.

However if you’re in Cardiff do go see this castle as it is very nice - just a tad overpriced.

Lovely little museum, well displayed and designed about the rich stories of Cardiff. Very helpful staff. So interesting to learn about Welch culture and language.

I'm really glad that this museum is free to the public, as I was incredibly disappointed in it. When a museum is dedicated to the city it sits in, I expect it to actually show it off and show it off. Instead, the ground floor has giant displays for protests against American politics and other alt-left viewpoints that have nothing to do with the history of Cardiff itself. Instead of bashing Trump and anyone that doesn't agree with your female curators, maybe strive to have cool exhibits that get tourist to ignore all the issues with Cardiff, like the homeless camp setup on the museum doorstep. Also, the displays are incredibly boring, with chunks of glass slag and teapots offering their view of "Cardiff's history." If you're wanting to see the history of Cardiff, go a few blocks down to the amazing Castle and subsequent museum instead of this politically motivated showboat.

It's a free entry museum. This museum display the history of Cardiff and it has more than 3,000 objects displayed inside. It's kids friendly museum too!

Although informative the museum gives an impression of skimming over the city's history, and is very small with just a few exhibits from each era the collection covers. Even taking in everything will give you change out of an hour. That said, what they do have is well layed out and accessible.
A visit is worth it for the magnificent tiled corridor, however, which has to be one of the city's "must see" attractions.
