I have been a tenant at 242 E 83rd Street since August 2021. In my nearly two years living here, The Torkian Group has been a wonderful management service. They are incredibly responsive and are willing to help whenever needed. I have had a wonderful experience living at 242 E 83rd St.

I have never written a review before, but I feel the need to now because my experience with Torkian was genuinely one of the worst I've ever had with a "professional" organization. Throughout my two years as a tenant, I was consistently disrespected and lied to by this company. They lied about the price & availability of other units in my building to get me to re-sign my lease. They lied about move-out requirements so that they could take more of my security deposit. After telling me my "check was in the mail," it took >5 weeks & constant follow-up emails to actually receive the check.
In March, I temporarily relocated from NYC because of COVID, and shortly after, I was diagnosed with breast cancer & was told I needed to immediately begin chemotherapy treatment. From this time until the end of my lease (over 5 months), I was not living in my apartment because I was undergoing chemotherapy in a different state, and Torkian did not offer a SINGLE ACCOMMODATION--no discounted rent, no early lease termination, no payment deferrals, no sublease options/assistance, literally nothing. Just "too bad, you signed the lease, deal with it." While I understand that they had no obligation to offer me accommodations, the dismissive, rude, and impersonal way in which they responded to my requests just blew my mind.
The only thing that matters to this company is your money. The single redeeming thing I can say is that the one employee with which I communicated most frequently (Chris) was generally nice and typically apologetic on behalf of his company. But seriously, if you are renting in NYC, do not make the mistake of getting involved with Torkian.

Contrary to some of the reviews here, my experience with Torkian Group has been rather positive during all of my time at Solari. Their responsiveness and personal attention was a breath of fresh air compared to many other management/leasing companies I've dealt with over the years - it always felt like you're speaking to a human, who actually cared to help you.
Count me as a happy and satisfied client!

If I could give the Torkian Group a negative 10 stars, I would. They are incredible deceitful, unresponsive, and a nightmare to work with. The only person at the entire company who treats others like a human being is Chris - and without him, I may have sued Torkian a time or two. Not only did someone flat out lie to me about the rental application of another unit (constituting fraudulent inducement into signing a lease renewal) but I am convinced that they invent imaginary people who do not actually exist to blame their problems on. "Oh, so and so isn't in today and she's the only one who can negotiate lease terms." After numerous times hearing this excuse, I showed up to the office unannounced and this magical creature also was not "in the office." If you can stay away from this company please do, EVEN IF the deal sounds good, don't sign with them. You will pay for it in the long run.

The Torkian Group has worked to meet our needs as tenants since we began our lease in July. Having rented from many management companies over 15 years in NYC, I have found them to be responsive and helpful, an overall good experience!

I'll try to keep this short. Run, don't walk, away from this management company and their building at 311 W 50th. We recently finished our lease in one of the renovated units, we were the second occupants. The management is nearby but offsite, and are the least professional I have ever come across, and liars as well. Here goes... Our apartment was not cleaned (including garbage) or properly painted for us and I was subsequently lied to about their intention to make it right. The building has no security or intercom system - just a plain clothes dude whose only function is packages - the sign about visitors being announced is a lie. Literally anyone off the street could walk-in without question. Many units are operated as hotel rooms (google the address and you'll find it listed as a hotel) - so there is a daily flow of random tourists in the lobby and elevators. The "health club" as it's called on streeteasy was not heated during the winter so it was like being outside. The hallways are not cooled during the summer so ours was like a dog scented steam room. There are frequent water shut offs - some announced some not - with no hot water for long periods after (up to two days in our case). We had numerous times during the winter when the heat was not functioning properly. The continued renovation next to and above caused every surface in our apartment to be covered with a fine white dust - I had to throw out my toothbrush - not to mention the brain-rattling noise. The building has mice - which the super acknowledged when I reported it - we found mouse poop in our cabinets. The super changed 3 times during our lease, so there was zero continuity or accountability. One of our window frames was broken and wouldn't latch properly through our entire lease, we were lied to over and over about when it would be fixed - I let staff come and inspect it multiple times - but nothing was ever done. We were repeatedly lied to about contractors coming to make repairs - we would wait for hours for nobody to show - and the off-site management would claim they showed and were denied access. Our unit was incredibly humid despite the AC running constantly - requiring I buy a $300 dehumidifier. Mold formed around the AC units and in the flooring - which I confirmed by paying $400 to a mold testing company - the entire floor in the apartment needed to be replaced. It took over 60 days and repeated hounding to get our security deposit check. Honestly, there were more issues I am not remembering right now. I know this makes me sound a bit nuts, but I am a native New Yorker, my wife and I are working professionals with a baby and have lived in numerous reputable rental building throughout NYC, as well as in FL and DC, and this was by far the worst and least professional experience we've had. We are now back in a reputable new construction building nearby and are happy Torkian and The Cameo are becoming a more distant memory each day. Sorry for any typos, I am getting angry just reliving all this, but hopefully it will help convince you to stay far away.

Today is my 5th day since moving into my new unit here in midtown. I feel miserable thinking about how hard it is going to be dealing with the Management and the Super for 1 whole year.
Reason for even writing a review:
the super entered my unit without any prior notice today. When he barged in to my unit, he didn't give any verbal notice, he did not knock on the door, definitely did not ring the door bell, or anything... I did not put in any maintenance request, there isn't any emergency, there isn't any water/gas leak, it is clearly not last 4 month of my lease, he is not lending the owner money... basically the super didn't have any reason to enter the unit. Can't believe stuff like this still happens here in NYC in year 2018.
I already have a ton of things that I've experienced that aren't acceptable in addition to the event above, but hope things get better and issues resolved. I'll update my review accordingly throughout the 11 months and 25 days I have left with them.
