Northrop

It has been many years since I have attended anything here. We came for the performance of Giselle. At first I wondered why they chose a college theater to hold such an acclaimed ballet but as we walked in I was surprised by the regal appearance. The seats are comfortable and it is easy to walk down the stairs to see the pit. My only qualm was that they did not make am announcement for people to not be taking pictures or using phones period. The lady in front of us was constantly on her phone and it was very distracting.

We had orchestra seats W 141-143. They were directly in the middle of the theater, near the back of the lower level. The view of the stage was decent as long as the person in front of you is not tall. See the photo of the big head. The ballet was great but it was annoying to be surrounded by uncontrolled children eating candy, walking around, talking, standing on chairs and interrupting the performance for everyone.

Was here last week for a show and was pleasantly surprised! They had a lot of snack options and drink options and the seats were comfortable for plus sized people. Parking can be an issue. So I would recommend either parking and walking in or buying a pass with your ticket at the church street garage which has an exit right at the back of Northrop.

Great acoustics and wide comfortable seats. Im pretty sure most the parking ramps on campus in the area have underground access to the Building which is nice in the winter or if weather is poor.

Your team in the east box office on Saturday were superb. They were very professional and kind. What a great team and the show was phenomenal. ‘‘Twas was a beautiful treat for the whole family. Thank you for the wonderful experience from start to finish!

Had a terrible experience with the Box office employee. I had bought tickets to the wrong date and when I went to check if anything could be done, the manager (sure carried himself like one) fully shot down the possibility of anything being done about it. He didn't even try, he said it was impossible. Two tickets down the drain, so I asked upstairs and immediately the staff tried to see how they could help and they found me two emergency seats I could occupy and managed to see the show!

Needless to say I won't be doing Northrop again if the managers care this little about their visitors, either he didn't know there are almost always some emergency seats OR he didn't care to help either way it's unacceptable.

Designed by C. H. Johnston, Northrop Auditorium opened in 1929. Often referred to as the “Carnegie of the Midwest,” it was the home of the Minnesota Orchestra for 45 years. It underwent extensive restoration beginning in 2011. Originally seating nearly 5,000, capacity of the main auditorium was reduced to fewer than 3,000. The single broad balcony was replaced by three smaller wrap-around balconies, resulting in improved sight lines and acoustics. One of its most exciting events is the annual University of Minnesota Marching Band indoor concert.

So many great performances here! It's disruptive to audience and performers to seat latecomers esp when their seats are in the middle of a row. Great commemoration of the March on Washington.
