Who planned this car park?

Many disabled spaces available, then you have to negotiate a long flight of steps to get out.

If you have mobility problems, you are better parking elsewhere.

Not cheap, but Canterbury Council car parks never are.
At least there is plenty of space, although it can fill up summer weekends.

Very expensive car park. Advertised at £3.10, but the actual price is £3.40 per hour.

Surely it's illegal to advertise one price and charge a different more expensive price.

So for 2hours they stung us for £6.80. Great way to drive away tourists and money.

The ANPR system is very convenient but the prices for car parking in whitstable are criminal. Residents parking schemes means that long stay on road parking is a non starter near the town center. By comparison you can use park and ride in Canterbury for £4 per day. On Saturdays you can park in the school next to the library for £4 or £5 I think and your money goes to a worthier cause than that of the pockets of CCC.

I parked my car there yesterday (16 June 2023) and was charged £9.15 iirc and presented my debit card, got a beep from it reading and took a receipt, which was only partially printed on the ticket. I have noticed that no money was taken from my debit card either.
The boom opened when I left though.
I do hope this does not turn into something more, later.

Gorrell Tank Car Park is a large, pay-and-display car park located in the heart of Whitstable. It is within walking distance of the town centre, harbour, and beach. The car park is open 24 hours and has a capacity of 258 spaces. Rates are steep, and payment can be made by cash, credit card, or by phone. The car park is well-lit and secure, and it has a number of accessible spaces. Overall, Gorrell Tank Car Park is a convenient and affordable option for parking in Whitstable.

Visited Whitstable 24th April 2023 and was really disgusted at the hourly rate for parking at this car park, £3.10 an hour, the other small seafront car park Keams Yard is the same price as well. What is Canterbury Council trying to do, kill businesses and put people off from visiting Whitstable. I talked to someone in one of the businesses and they said alot of businesses were unhappy about it as well. I don't know what the other 2 (East Quay and Harbour car parks) were priced at as I meant to have a look but forgot to. Just like most other people have said, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) based and pay before exiting. I don't know the exact procedure, as I didn't use the car perk, so check when you arrive.
